Hi guys,
I have just receive an XT910 with android 4.1.2 and i love it but i was questionning myself if i need to change ROM or not?
Can you advise me if CM10 is better than stock ROM (battery life/performence ?) Or maybe MIUI V5
Thx for your advise
Oh yes, much better. If you like cm10 and miui, you should try avatar ROM. It combines the two.
I use PAC-man rom. This combines several of the standout features from CyanogenMod, AOKP, and Paranoid Android into one rom.
Hello, sorry for intruding but i have a nexus s i9020 and someone with moto 910 wants a exchange with mine, but the nexus s runs really fast with custom 4.3, does the moto rzr xt910 (the name is to long ) handel 4.3 or 4.2 roms good (battery life smoothnes, stuf like that)? Razr XT910 does support both 4.2 & 4.3 Custom ROMs but there are a few things to consider.
On 4.2, HDMI and HD Video recording doesn't work. The devs are working on those.
4.3 builds are in development right now and also have some issues.
It depends on you what exactly do you want in a ROM.

I have tried all 4.2 roms on my xt912 but all to no avail. The major challenge I keep on having is that no rom allows me use mobile internet connections. I'm from Nigeria, and wifi isn't ubiquitous. Another challenge I have is that, my phone is XT912. But since all XT912 roms are done with CDMA in mind, I can't install SYPDER roms on my phone, so I have keep on trying XT910 (umts_sypder) ROMS. I don't know whether this could be the cause of my challenges.

If you have a spyder(XT912), you should flash spyder ROMs and not umts_spyder.
If you use xt912 on gsm, just flash the gsm fix after the custom ROM.

smart actions
I have a rooted standard ROM and I am also curious as to the benefits of changing to another custom ROM. I would like to know if the custom ROMs for the Razr still use Smart Actions app which I quite like. I have also upgraded the battery to the Maxx EB40 battery, so curious as to whether there are more power benefits. I can see that there would be certain apps that can be added but I like all the standard camera, video, bluetooth type issues to be stable and working, is that asking too much?

SmartActions only works on 4.1.2 stock based ROMs as it requires blur framework. You can try any stock based custom ROM.
For other ROMs, you can use Tasker. It has similar functions as SmartActions

So just to confirm, are ROMs that are 4.2.2 for example still ok? And are the ROMs like Avatar or others ok too? thanks for the response

I agree, I've rooted and de-bloated, installed my launcher of choice and can't be any happier but I did try many custom roms and there's always a trade off somewhere. having the og Droid Razr I need my battery life and wifi and carrier signal's to be strong. Just couldn't find a custom rom to do that for me. But I did live on the edge there for a bit and learned alot from other flashaholics here!
Avatar is good, but one thing I'm missing...

But the problem with Avatar-ROM is, that i cannot connect it to my computer via usb-cable. It does not react in any way when it's connected. So no filetransfer possible.

In my opinion artur0588's ROM's are very good. For example this one: Artmod V4.3.

That depends on how you define ok.!
On 4.2, almost all everyday usage stuff works fine. But some things like HDMI, HD recording doesn't work.
So if those features are crucial to you, you should stick with 4.1.
My advice, try it for yourself. See if it has what you need.

I have an Atrix and Defy both rooted and with custom Rom, very happy with the results, the rare freeze or reboot is annoying but I can live with it. so I have tried the custom route and will probably go with one, there are so many to choose from though all with slight differences. The performance upgrades for the Razr arent important as it doesnt need it [ I dont play games on it] so getting the basics working in a stable way is more important. thanks

Are there any AOSP ROMs out there for the Droid Razr GSM ?
I might be blind, or stupid (take you pick) but so far I have not found any ROM out there that did not have the terrible Motorola Apps bundled into it.
A while back I tried to get into the whole ROM Development thing, but it all just goes over my head as I have no development experience at all.
The thing is that the dialer of the Droid Razr is not stock, and as far as I can see the SMS Messaging app is also doctored (the smilies suck majorly I have to say).

What bugs me most about all the ROMs out there are the customizations applied to them.
I'm not going to rail against the devs, it's their personal choice what they do with their builds, they are just not my cup of tea.
Hopefully someone will release a barebones, purely stock ROM without any of their personal improvements (and neither of Motorola's either).

I don't know...its perception perhaps. Just don't like their designs. And didn't the GNexus have the signal dropping issue?
HW wise Motorola is better. Not saying its the best...but better.

My bro is on a gnex and never had an issue. Even now with the jb update. Personally I don't like the onscreen buttons so I wouldn't have one. I had a galaxy 1 for a while and was happy with the hardware. The software was so easily hackable that the poor offerings from Samsung were ignored completely until I sold it.

Edit. I'd suggest trying one for a few days if you can. Even hacking it if the owner will let you.

I so agree with you. I own both Gnex and Razr like you do I think. Motorola is just better in so many way.. Reception, speaker, phone quality in general. If only the bootloader was unlocked... thats the major issue for me.

Yeah, and from what i've seen it'll stay a dream.
Every other rom out there that i've seen has had a bunch of stuff added that hardly anyone will ever use, or has been made rather hideous in respect to themes and color palettes.
There is a reason behind the way Android looks as standard, and I personally do not think that there is any need for improvement, at least on Android 4.0.4, so it would be really nice if the devs could leave the visual experience unchanged
They relesead the alpha for cm9 on gsm razr, i know that is not completelly aosp but is very similar to it.
(i'm not posting the link since is an alpha and inexperienced people might try to install it and brick or having problem with it)
CyanogenMod has been a battery hog ever since CM6 for me, that's why I ditched it for OxygenROM. Also, i'm sorry to say that CM also has accumulated too much bloatware after it became popular. The choice to include ADW was likewise spectacularly stupid.

The cm9 doesn't have adw, it have a custumized launcher based on the original one that let you change number of screen e some other little tweaks. Still you can froze tha app you don't like and have a almost clean aosp (plus the power widget onthe status bar that i found very usefull)

2. Do all the roms etc work on droid razr maxx too which are for RAZR only

The ROMs that are available now are not ready for daily use IMO. Data is pretty wonky and the camera doesn't work. There's also more lag interface-wise based on my own experiences with different builds. They do have ICS builds of AOKP and CM9 that have working camera and data seems more reliable if you want to check those out.
Also, as long as it's a CDMA ROM you should be fine.
Hey, this is my first post so sorry if its in the wrong place.
I have had my Amaze 4G for about a year and had wanted to experiment with different roms. Unfortunately there are not a lot which I can get to work with radio and tethering. I am with Wind (dont laugh) but only the T-mobile roms seem to work without incident. I had a good experience with EnergyROM but after trying the CyanogenMOD 10 4.1.2 nightlies I have been looking for a rom which has only the very basic apps preinstalled and no gapps. I really like cm10 because I only get what I want but being unstable releases the battery life is really bad. I wanted to post this to see what people are using which fit this criteria or if there is a way to edit the custom rom zips to remove these apps.
Thanks XD
Try venom rom. You can customize pretty much anything. I don't know the current state of tether on this ROM though because I don't really use it.

Well, you should forget about custom AOSP ROMs (Android 4.2 & above) because HDMI functionality is not fixed yet in the Kexec kernel, although it might be fixed someday for 4.4 ROMs (not sure though).
So, you should try Stock-Based ROMs which are based on Motorola's OMAP4 Kernel in which everything works out of the box. There are plenty of these, search on the development section of Droid Razr here on XDA. Remember that in order to install custom ROMs you must first be rooted and with a custom recovery installed on your device.
Anyway, click Thanks if I helped you
My husband's HTC One has been acting up.. no wifi... powers on when it feels like it... and yesterday, he cracked his screen. So it's time to revive the old Droid RAZR until he's eligible for an upgrade.
So I'd like to get recommendations on which ROM is the most stable/reliable at the moment. My husband doesn't need anything fancy.. he's not big on technology/rooting... good battery life is important.
It's currently rooted with 4.1.2. If I use a 4.4 rom, can I upgrade directly to 4.4 if I do a clean install?
Look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Yes. Install CM11 (or whatever ROM you like) into slot 1 and enjoy. You'll still have the original ROM in the stock slot if you want to switch back so it is pretty risk free!
I'll just throw in my two cents and say the SlimKat build 6 is a very good ROM. The only issue I've found is it won't send MMS. I just switch back to stock ROM to do that. A little bit of a hassle, but the benefits of the ROM far out weigh the inconvenience. Hope this helps!
EDIT: MMS works, I just had configured it incorrectly.
ROM recommendations
If you are looking for KitKat ROM's that are stable and normally run smoothly without major issues, my recommendations are Paranoid Android and CM11. CM11 has more options and gets more frequent updates but Paranoid Android is pretty streamlined and smooth and the current versions look and feel more like a straight stock Android system . If you are looking for a lot of options and things to tweak then PacMan ROM is nice.
As for battery life Paranoid Android may be a little better. Of course using a dark theme like thyrus dark ui, keeping screen brightness low and going into the advanced WiFi settings along with a few other things will really improve battery life.
