This is how you install a Rom? - HTC Droid DNA

Hey folks,
Just ordered the Droid DNA off of eBay. It's factory condition, so it's not rooted or unlocked or anything.
I want to install the GPE rom on it from Newt. I've been reading as much as I can on how to do this and want to confirm my understanding. Forgive my noobness. These are the high level steps that I think I have to go through:
1) Run Moonshine. This will give me S-Off and an unlocked bootloader. This is all I need to put on a custom recovery.
2) Install Clockwork Mod recovery. This will allow me to flash kernels and put new roms on
3) Use Clockwork Mod to first backup the device and then put the GPE rom on. I don't need to flash a kernel
Am I right here?
Thanks a lot!

You are go for launch. Before flashing GPE, you may also want to get Titanium Backup and backup your apps.

just dont so any type of phone data wipe untill you transfer a rom to it and dont do system wipe ever
you cant reliably transfer roms in recovery so it will cause you some hassle

You got it. I prefer TWRP for recovery myself. But it's all just personal taste.

Can you elaborate on that? Everything I'm reading says it's fine to do a factory days reset on custom roms. Are you referring to something else? Thanks

Disregard that post. You must wipe system when flashing different ROM bases, if you don't you'll have issues if the ROM doesn't wipe on install. Factory reset is perfectly fine and 100% recommended for flashing ROMs. Don't wipe internal storage until after you flash a ROM unless you want to side load or push a ROM to flash, this is what he meant, I think, just provided false information with it.
Tapatalked from my HTC DNA - Carbon

I compiled a list of instructions on how to do it. This is starting with a brand new phone, all the way to installing the GPE custom rom using TWRP on a Windows PC. If anyone has a few minutes to look it over, I'd love the feedback (like maybe there are better ways to do this). But regardless, I thought this could be helpful to someone else in the future:
Disclaimer: I am not an expert and you should take my advice with a grain of salt. You can brick your phone by doing this and I'm not responsible if you do, even if you followed my instructions exactly. If you do run into a problem I won't be able to help you as again, I am not an expert. You're on your own and doing this at your own freewill and you are accepting responsibility from any good or bad that comes from it. Good Luck
Prerequisite: You must be on Firmware 2.06
1. Download and install HTC Sync Manager (to get drivers for phone) from:
http://www.htc.com/www/software/htc-sync-manager/
2. Now Uninstall HTC Sync Manager (drivers will remain behind)
3. Now install Android MiniSDK to get Fastboot and adb from:
http://androidforums.com/attachment...81-adb-guide-updated-2013-05-21-sdk-tools.zip
4. Right-click My Computer, click Properties, Advanced System Settings, and Environment Variables. Under User Variables, click Path, Edit, and at the end of the line, add a semicolon and the directory to your SDK tools. Do the same for the Path under System Variables and click OK to close the several windows we used to get here.
5. Download Moonshine from:
http://moonshine.io
6. Disable the lock screen, disable fast boot, and enable USB debugging
Settings -> Personalize -> Lock screen style and select No lock screen.
Settings -> Battery -> UNcheck “fast boot”
Settings -> Developer Options, turn them on (the toggle is at the top right), and check the box next to USB debugging.
7. Connect phone to computer using original USB cable (preferably to a USB 2.0 port as 3.0 has some issues)
8. Extract Moonshine Zip file
9. Run distiller.exe from the folder where you extracted Moonshine. Read all the messages and answer Yes to any prompts.
Steps 1-9 at: http://htc-one.wonderhowto.com/how-to/set-your-htc-one-s-off-using-moonshine-windows-0147992/

XRON/TWRP 2.0 Installation for the Very Newbie

I struggled to install Android XRON version and TWRP unless I scour xda and YouTube. Anyway, I put it all together here. I hope it will help those who are starting up myself.
+-------------------------------------------------------+
| Touchpad XRON Android CM7 Install for Newbies
| Install with the latest TWRP 2.0 Recovery!
| v2.0 by TopQuark 12/23/2011
+-------------------------------------------------------+
BACKGROUND:
-----------
XRON CM7 has its own tweaks so it is the best CM7 install right now. It includes some
bloatware though but those can be uninstalled later through Titanium Backup.
TWRP 2.0 is the latest Recovery Project with customizable touchscreen GUI! I will be
replacing ClockWork Recovery (CWM) with TWRP 2.0 during the install process.
INSTALL PREWARE:
----------------
Preware is akin to "Jailbreak" or "Unroot" and it is needed to sideload and install webOS
apps. But we'll need Preware to clean some of the files during the CM7 install after
CM7 installation.
1. Download webOS Quick Install:
http://www.filesonic.com/file/1411099974 or...
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2774158/WebOSQuickInstall-4.3.1.jar
2. Store it in any folder you assign. You will get the file: WebOSQuickInstall-4.3.1.jar
3. In your Touchpad (or TP), go to "Just type..." in the main screen and type the following:
webos20090606
4. A prompt will ask you if you to switch on developer mode. Switch it on.
5. A developer mode passwork will be asked. Leave it blank and press 'continue'.
6. Plug-in USB cable. Do not click "USB Drive". Just click 'Close' when the Connected
prompt comes out.
7. Double click the file in your PC you downloaded "WebOSQuickInstall-4.3.1.jar".
8. Click the 'world' symbol on the right.
9. Under 'Applications' tab, look for the file named 'Preware'. Click on it, then click
'Install'. This will <10 secons to install.
10. Exit WebOS Quick Install.
11. Go you TP, under the Launcher -> Downloads, you will see the Penguin Icon named
'Preware'. That's it!
DOWNLOAD ACME INSTALLER AND CLOCKWORK RECOVERY:
-----------------------------------------------
The ACME installer is to install Clockwork Recovery. The Clockwork Recovery is to allow
installation of zip files that includes the ROM of your choice, updates, and TWRP that I
will explain later.
From rootzwiki.com website:
- ACME Installer - http://goo-inside.me/roms/cmtouchpad/alpha2/ACMEInstaller.zip
- Clockwork Recovery - http://mirror.dal.tdrevolution.net/kmobs/update-cwm_tenderloin-1012.zip
...or from here - http://goo-inside.me/roms/cmtouchpad/alpha1/update-cwm_tenderloin-1012.zip
DOWNLOAD MOBOOT:
----------------
Moboot is the ingenius program that allows multiple boot among webOS, Android CM7,
and Clockwork Recovery or TWRP.
- Moboot files are located here- http://code.google.com/p/moboot/downloads/list.
Download the latest. The latest file is 'moboot_0.3.5.zip' as of this writing.
DOWNLOAD XRON CM7:
------------------
As mentioned earlier, XRON CM7 is the tweaked version of CM7 Alpha. Download the latest
version from here:
http://www.androidfilehost.com/main/Touchpad_Developers/Team_Xron/CM7base_XRONified/
Disregard 'ACMEInstallerMethod.zip' and files starting with "CM_7.1_XRONified...'. Those
are redundant. The latest file is 'XRONified_vB2.7_odexed.zip' as of this writing. It
contains less bloatware. File size is a lot smaller than previous versions! Good thing
about XRON is the google apps (gapps) are already included unlike in the raw CM7 install.
DOWNLOAD THE HP webOS SDK:
--------------------------
These files are needed to communicate with webOS during the install process. Go to this
site:
In item#4 of the website under 'Install the HP webOS SDK for Windows', download the file
corresponding to your PC - either 64 or 32 bit.
PREPARE THE DOWNLOADED FILES FOR TRANSFER:
------------------------------------------
1. Go to your TP and connect the USB connector. Tap on the "USB Drive" to connect
to the USB drive. At this point, you will see the familiar USB logo on screen.
2. Create 2 folders on your desktop PC named 'android' and 'cminstall' all in lowercase.
3. Extract the contents of the zipped files from ACMEInstaller.zip into the 'android'
folder. DO NOT transfer the zip files!
4. Transfer the following zipped files to the 'cminstall' folder (yes, leave these as .zip):
a. ClockWork Recovery (file is like 'update-cwm_tenderloin-1012.zip')
b. Moboot (file is like 'moboot_0.3.5.zip')
c. XRON CM7 - Rename the XRON file from 'XRONified_vB2.7_odexed.zip' to
'update-cm_xron.zip'.
Remember to keep the above 3 files intact with .zip extension.
5. Double click on the 'HP webOS SDK' program. The filename is similar to
'Palm_webOS_SDK-Win-2.1.0-519-x64.exe'. Run it -> click 'Next' -> 'Accept Terms of
License Agreement' -> click 'Next' -> select 'Custom' -> click 'Next' -> click 'Change'
button -> select the directory where you kept your 'android' folder. This can
typically be found in 'C:\Users\YourName\Desktop\android'. Then click 'Ok' -> click
'Next' -> click 'Install' -> click 'Finish'.
6. There is an extra folder created named 'Palm webOS SDK'. You can delete this. It is
not important.
7. Open the 'android' folder. Drag the 'ACMEInstaller' file to the 'bin' directory.
INSTALLING THE FILES TO YOUR HP TOUCHPAD:
-----------------------------------------
1. Open file explorer and go to 'HP TOUCHPAD' storage device. Double click it.
2. From your desktop, drag the 'cminstall' folder into the 'HP TOUCHPAD' storage device
at the root directory.
3. Once 'cminstall' folder was copied, eject the 'HP TOUCHPAD' storage, then shutdown
the TP by long pressing the power button and clicking 'Shutdown'.
4. Power-up your TP by pressing 'Power Button' and 'Volume Up' button at the same
time. A USB symbol will show in the screen.
5. Double click on the 'android' folder in your desktop, then, double click 'bin' folder.
6. While pressing the 'Shift' key, press the right mouse button then click on 'Open
command window here'.
7. In the command (cme.exe) window, type the following:
novacom boot mem:// <ACMEInstaller
8. A series of commands will show in your TP with a pair of penguins staring how
wonderful Linux is. This will take few minutes.
9. Your TP will reboot after that and it will ask you to select which OS to boot! Note
that you only have 5 seconds to select or it will run CyanogenMod. Press the 'volume
up' or 'volume down' buttons to make a selection, then 'center' button next to the USB
port to execute it.
10. That's it! Congratulations! You now have Android in your TP!
INSTALLING TEAM WIN RECOVERY PROJECT RECOVERY (also known as TWRP 2.0):
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
1. After wondering around Android in your TP, download the following file from
http://www.teamw.in/project/twrp2/75:
update-twrp-tenderloin-2.0.0RC0-signed.zip
2. Copy this file inside the 'cminstall' folder of your TP. You can do this while
inside CM7 by pressing the dropdown curtain, select 'USB connected', then 'Turn on
USB storage' then 'Ok', while your USB plug is connected.
3. Go to 'HP TOUCHPAD' storage in your TP and double click 'cminstall' folder. At
this point you will notice that this directory is now empty.
4. Drag the file you downloaded above 'update-twrp-tenderloin-2.0.0RC0-signed.zip'
inside the 'cminstall' folder. There is no need to rename it.
5. Eject the 'HP TOUCHPAD' drive, then reboot by pressing the power button for few
seconds and select 'reboot'.
6. As soon as TP booted up, be quick to move the volume button (you have 5 seconds)
and select 'boot ClockworkMod'. Press center button to run the recovery.
7. Move the volume buttons to select 'install zip from sdcard'.
8. Select 'choose zip from sdcard'. Go to 'cminstall' and install the xxx.zip TWRP file
from there.
9. Select 'Go Back', then reboot system now. That's it! You now have TWRP and the
nice touch GUI interface. Well, it is not that nice yet but it is customizable so you
know what others will do with it.
REMOVING 'boot ClockworkMod' in the BOOT MENU:
----------------------------------------------
Since ClockwokMod is no longer needed, remove it from the boot menu. Here are the steps:
1. Reboot the TP. As soon as system reboots, be quick to select 'boot webOS'.
2. Go to 'Downloads' in TP Launcher and click 'Preware'.
3. If you have not run Preware before, it will ask you to read the change history and
just keep on clicking ok until you get to the program.
4. On the top right search button, type 'internalz' without the quotes.
5. Click 'Internalz Pro', then 'Install', then 'Install/Update Them'.
6. Click 'Ok' for Java Restart is Required, then 'Launch', then 'Continue' without having
to click on any sliders to off.
7. At this point the file and folder directory will show in your screen. Click the
'Internalz Pro' at the very top left of the screen, then click 'Preferences'.
8. Browse all the way to the bottom, then slide the 'Master mode' button to 'On'. Click
'Yes' to enable Master Mode.
9. Click the 'Internalz Pro' button again at the very top left of the screen, then 'Close'.
10. Go up the directory by clicking '..', then do it again. Click on directory 'boot'.
11. Look for the file that says 'uImage.ClockworkMod'. Click it. A menu will show, then
select 'Delete'. Click 'Yes' to confirm delete.
12. That's it! Reboot TP and you will no longer see 'boot ClockworkMod' again.
LOADING A NEW ROM IN TWRP:
--------------------------
The question is, if a new XRON ROM came out, how will I update to the new ROM? The safest
way to do this is to wipe everything out in TWRP - data factory reset, wipe cache, and wipe
Dalvik cache - then install the new ROM. Before doing that, though, make sure to backup all
user apps and data so you can restore them easily after a clean wipe. This can be done using
Titanium Backup that can be downloaded free from the Market.
After a new ROM is installed, an error 'E:Cannot load volume /misc!' will show up in TWRP.
Disregard the message. It is harmless and it pertains to a partition that TWRP checks and
does not exist. Just reboot after that and everything should be fine.

[Q] Flashing ZTE Grand Memo 5S (aka ZTE Memo V5S) - help needed

Hi,
I bought this phone from China and I wanted to convert it to an international regular android phone.
This sounds easy, the theory is that, root the phone to get rid of Chinese apps then install Google Play... that would be sufficient for me.
The problem is that in practice that proved to be more complicated especially if one have not done this before.
The Phone
ZTE V5S / Grand Memo 5S
Hardware Platform: MT6589
Cores: Quad Core
CPU: 1.5G Hz
GPU: PowerVR SGX544MP
RAM: 1GB
ROM: 8GB
Display Size: 5.7 inch HD
Screen Resolution: 720×1280
Screen Type: IPS-LCD, Multi-Touch Capcitive Screen
Display Colour: 16 Million Colors
Operating System: Android 4.2
I have read forums in the last couple of days and managed to:
- root the device
- remove china stuff
- installed Google Play
The store is working but the Google apps such as YouTube are giving this error:
"Google Play services, which some of your applications rely on, is not supported by your device. Please contact the manufacturer for assistance."
I understand (from googling) that I have to instal a new ROM which is modified to support this.
I have downloaded couple of ROMs from Chinese sites but following their instructions, I could not install the ZIP files.
Not speaking Chinese, used web translation.
Ideally, I am looking to install a multilingual ROM for my device.
Later edit: I have installed the google play posted here and now youtube works but play is crashing if i try to install anything.
Any help highly appreciated.
Thank you.
[Resolved] Flashing ZTE Grand Memo 5S (aka ZTE Memo V5S)
Managed to resolve my problem... here is the step by step guide.
As usual, I'm not responsible if you brick your pone, is your decision to follow the below steps.
Some advices:
- Use a good quality USB cable which plugs firmly in the phone and PC
- Make sure that eventual power outage does not power off pc (ie use laptop)
- Do not unplug cable (accidentally) from PC/Phone while program running and last message is not: --- task is complete ---
- Try not using PC for other (resource consuming) activities.
- Be patient... some processes take quite long time
- Upload ROM which is designed for Your device!
- If you want to download ROM using SP Flash Tool, you need to dismount the phone as battery is not removable. Make an NANDROID
backup as this will backup absolutely everything... including user data.
1. Download MTK Droid Tools (because this is a MediaTek device)
2. Download SP Flash Tool (not used... just to have it in case you need to flash back a backup)
3. DOwnload a ROM (ZTE_V5S_WCDMA_Google_ROOT_140522.zip)
4. DOwnload a Patch for splash screen in Zip format (optional).
5. Copy to sd card:
- The downloaded ROM, rename to "update.zip". This is important otherwise will might give an error when flasing.
- The splash screen patch if you have it.
- Insert sd card in the phone.
6. Open MTKdroidTools.exe
- in few minutes your phone details should show up on Phone information tab.
7. Connect Phone via USB to PC
8. In USB computer options choose to connect with option "Connect to PC software", this will turn on USB debug
9. Root the phone, follow these steps:
- MTK Droid tools, after phone is read, press Root
- When prompted to create backup of ROM, press Yes (For the subsequent restoration of bla, bla... To make it now?)
- When prompted pack the backed up ROM, press Yes
- When Prompted choose between SuperSU or Superuser, choose SuperSU. SuperSU is still supported by develper, this is why.
- Click on IMEI/NVRAM and press backup... you may need that as well if something goes wrong.
Now you have you phone rooted and the original ROM zipped in the backup folder under MTK Droid Tools folder.
- Reboot the phone. You might have to root again but no need to save anything.

MetroPCS & T-Mobile LG Leon STABLE Root (WORKS EVERY TIME 100%)

I am making this tutorial as I have had multiple versions of the LG LTE Leon and have used many firmware versions. I have created a stable method that has the least issues as I have had trouble with the latest firmware (MS34510f) disabling my root privileges. I have created a MEGA account specifically for all of the files necessary to complete this operation and have your device run smoothly. So, please follow my instructions exactly as stated and you should not have any issues. THIS PROCESS WILL REMOVE ALL DATA NOT SYNCED, DO READ BELOW NOTES IT IS VERY BENEFICIAL
Important Notes:
+This process will wipe all data that is not synced, it is important to ensure that no newer LG process are still on the device. Some might argue to leave data, to that I say good luck keeping your root and tethering without the device becoming suspiciously unstable.
+ I am not GUARANTEEING this will work on every model, but I have had an extremely high success rate with all Leon versions.
+ In this tutorial the process in which I remove Kingroot and replace it with SuperSu is for system stability. I find that most root functions I use seem to not work properly. (Wifi Tether Router and many others). So, I do recommend doing so.
+After the new OS is installed a MetroPCS splash screen will appear even if you do have T-Mobile. DO NOT BE ALARMED this firmware will not limit any functionality you had before, it will even help with tethering functionality.
Tutorial:
Let's Begin.
1. Download the link posted to obtain required files for this tutorial
Link: https://mega.nz/#F!PM4CQRqb!92kgIOnD0ZBY-8HVbtTwGQ
2. Open up LGFlashTool2014.exe
Begin by copying settings posted below, then click "normal flash"
3. Next click the "START" button
4. At this time, I recommend you verify all sync settings are to your liking and that all personal info needed is backed up
a. You have the option to throw all of your personal documents/pictures onto your SD card and removing it appropriately
(Go to: Settings - Storage - [scroll down to] Unmount SD card)
b. Next, navigate to Settings -Backup & reset [leave options default; both checked off] - Factory data reset - reset phone
c. Once reset it will most likely reboot, wipe, and then back to a OS. Now, you will Power Off entirely (make sure it is not plugged in so it will not go to charging mode)
d. Here is where we will hold down the Volume Up button with the phone unplugged from your PC. Then you must plug the USB into your phone.
e. A black screen with white text should post onto your screen, here we will continue to step 6
note: If this screen does not appear please power off and retry step d.
6. Next, follow the posted settings. Make sure to click the "Clear phone Software update Registry" button Then click "OK"
7. A new screen will arrive, and should begin the firmware download process. At this time it will take a few minute to load and should reboot to a fresh OS.
8. With the new OS in place, you can either follow the setup tutorial now or skip through for a later setup.
note: you can now insert your SD card
9. In the tools folder of the folder you downloaded copy the "mrw" folder to the Main Storage folder of your phone
10. Now copy the Kingroot apk to your downloads folder located on the main storage.
11. Go to Settings - About Phone - Software Info
At this time click the build number box a few times until it says you are a developer
12. Hit back until you are at the Setting menu, click on Developer options and check off "Stay Awake" and "Enable OEM Unlock" as well as "USB Debugging"
13. You may now run Kingroot, if it does not install root the first time it should flawlessly install the next.
14. After root is obtained, please go to your home screen and click the "Google Search" widget. Press Update Google Services and let it run. After that has been updated search for terminal emulator and install.
note: If the Play Store is acting fishy and force closing while typing in the search bar do not fret it will be fixed after reboot in further instruction
as an allternative use the jackpal.androidterm-1.0.70-71-minAPI4.apk provided in the "tools" folder
15. Open terminal and in a new window type: Su
16. Allow root usage and at this time type: sh /storage/emulated/0/mrw/root.sh
17. It will run with a few failed messages do not worry it should open SuperSu momentarily
18. Once SuperSu opens up allow it to update binaries using the "NORMAL" option but DO NOT REBOOT YET
19. At this time either download TWRP Manager from the play store or alternatively use the com.jmz.soft.twrpmanager-7.5.1.3-82-minAPI11.apk provided in the tools folder
20. Install and open TWRP Manager. Once opened click on device name and scroll until you see "LG Leon LTE (c50)"
a. Click on Recovery Version to Install and select "twrp-2.8.7.0-c50.img"
b. next click "Install Recovery" and if prompted for verification of install path and for install version select "YES" & "NORMAL"
21. After the TWRP setup is complete it may prompt you to reboot, if not click the arrow in the top left of the TWRP Manager screen and scroll down to "Reboot" and select "Reboot device"
22. After Reboot click TWRP Manager and verify a SuperSu prompt comes up if it hasn't already before the boot
At this point the device should be running smoothly. From here I prefer to do the following steps.
My Personal Setup after new install:
+Personally I like to install use a Root Uninstaller (I use 3C Toolbox Pro) and Uninstall and Backup all MetroPCS BloatWare including the Metro Browser.
+I also access the Hidden Menu by using the Dialer and Dial "2776348*#*"
- I scroll down to ApnUnlock and click to "Unlock APN"
- Then I navigate to Settings -Tethering & networks - Mobile Networks (I check off roaming data) - Access point names
--I then select the top APN and edit APN Type to: default, supl, mms, dun
---I click save from the top right selection, then turn on and off airplane mode
+If you are and Xposed user download "xposed-v79-sdk22-arm.zip","xposed-uninstaller-20150831-arm.zip", and "XposedInstaller_3.0_alpha4.apk" from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3034811
-install the Xposed Installer, then Go to TWRP Manager, use reboot to recovery and from there click install and navigate to the "xposed-v79-sdk22-arm.zip" and install and reboot, it will reboot with a installing screen before your home screen, takes 5 minutes.
+I also use this AMAZING app "Wifi Tether Router", it is the only tethering app I use that works consistently (if you have an unlimited data plan). I get 30mbps up and down, playing many multiplayer games off my PC and PS4 averaging ping as low as 30 ! Setting I use for our device are in a post I created here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/leon/help/unlimited-metropcs-t-mobile-tether-t3290180

Apologies for the late response, I never received a notification of your posting. I would not recommend that as I believe the H340 has a different "radio" driver or cellular chip, If I'm not mistaken the H340 isn't even LTE, the H345 is. In that case it may be possible. One thing I suggest doing before wasting your time in using any other ROM is googling H345 vs Ms345, typically the phonemore.com results will provide you with an abundance of hardware specs and let you know if they're different! Just be weary of the newest MS34510f_00.KDZ firmware I believe it has an active unroot process I've had some stability issues. I am using MS34510D_00.KDZ for months and have had no issues whatsoever! Again, I'm sorry I got back to you so late, let me know how everything goes!

Same here (firmware update) usb not detected when using the S/W update tool
After going all the way through this guide with a T-Mobile Leon, I do indeed have a Metro PCS ROM and root, which is great! Unfortunately, it also refuses to acknowledge my T-Mobile SIM. In fairness, I did not even insert a SIM for the first time (just got the phone) until the end of the process, but it shows as carrier locked which is significantly less than useful. I'll flash back to a TMO rom and put the SIM in to double check, but it's quite a bummer. Great job on the guide otherwise, though! It definitely did what it says on the tin; I have root and apart from the SIM lock which may be my fault somehow it works great.
Hey bud those links are no longer valid know where i can get them?

[Guide] How To Run 'Pokemon Go' Flawlessly on Moto E Gen 2

Tested On XT1526 from the stock 5.1.1 firmware surnia. PLEASE check your settings->about phone and look to make sure the model is surnia before going forward! Please reply in the comments if you were able to get this to work on another model other than the XT1526!
So you have the Moto E Gen 2. You may have even got this phone specifically to play the game that's sweeping the world, 'Pokemon Go'. You felt great having installed the APK like a true hacker, you went to play and......oh no. What's this? The phone takes ages to boot up? Restarts all the time while trying to log into your account? Or you FINALLY get far enough into the load that the game starts (or gets close to it) and the phone gets soo hot in your hands it's unbearable and the game begins to **** out? Perhaps it runs terribly from the get go?!
This. Guide. is. For. You.
This guide will help you to set up your Moto E Gen 2 to run perfectly with the game! It will also cause your phone to run almost 3x faster, and have the battery last almost 2.5x longer! I would recommend this guide to ANY person using the Moto E. I have NOT tested this guide with the Gen 1 or any other phone.
I do not take ANY responsibility if your phone ****s out on you in any way, shape or form. Messing with your phone's system like this can ALWAYS cause issues if you don't take your time and know a bit of what you are doing. Or, if you are new to this and daring, I have constructed this guide to be extremely easy to follow. As long as you follow step by step, you should be goldeen...erm...golden! If not, it's not on me. Your fault !
If you encounter a step you have previously done, go to the next one! This guide is step-by-step for someone with a stock Moto E (2015)!
Step One: Unlock The Bootloader
So the first thing we need to do on this journey is unlock our bootloader!
1. Back up ALL of your data! Do it. Or if this fails, you will be SOL.
2. Download the Android SDK or get the Minimal Version (this is what I did)
3. When you install the SDK, install it to your desktop (during installation it will ask you for location. Make a new folder on your desktop called SDK and install it there for easy access).
3. You will want to install the drivers for your phone so you don't have problems connecting from your computer to your phone! Download them HERE.
4. Now we need to get into fastboot. To achieve this there are a few things we need to do.
-With your device powered on, go to your Settings->About Phone and click on the 'Build Number' 7 times to enable Developer mode!
-Go into your settings->developer options and enable 'USB Debugging'
-While in Developer Options, make sure 'OEM unlocking' is ENABLED.
-Open the directory on your desktop where you installed ADB. You should see some programs such as 'fastboot' and 'adb' in there. Should NOT be an empty folder containing another folder!
5. Once you are in the directory of your ADB on your computer, and you have done all steps above, hold down the SHIFT KEY and RIGHT CLICK inside the ADB folder containing your 'fastboot' and 'adb' programs. Choose the option that says 'Open Command Window Here'.
6. Once the command window opens, connect your phone (while powered on) to your PC.
7. In the command window, enter the following command to make sure your device is connected: 'fastboot devices' Now, enter the following command: 'fastboot reboot bootloader'
8. When your phone restarts, you will be in the bootloader screen. Once here, enter the following string into your command window: 'fastboot oem get_unlock_data'
9. You will get a nice long string of text. Copy it by right clicking on it->Mark->then mark the string of text by holding the shift key. Ctrl+C to copy it.
10. Open a Notepad and copy the string into it by pressing Ctrl+V. Make the string of text ALL ONE LINE by deleting the spaces.
11. Head over to the Motorola site HERE and log in using your google+ account.
12. Scroll to the bottom of the page, and in step 6 paste your string code from your notepad (step 10) into the blank box. Click on the 'Can My Device Be Unlocked' link. There should be a new button that comes up that says 'Request Unlock Key'. You will be emailed your unlock key after clicking the 'I Agree' prompt!
13. Go into your email, and open up the new one that contains your unlock key. Copy the 20 character string that is your unlock key.
14. Back in your command window, enter the following command again: 'fastboot devices' to ensure your device is still connected. Your device should STILL be in your bootloader screen. If so, and you see your device in the command prompt, enter the following command: 'fastboot oem unlock YOUR_UNLOCK_CODE'
15. After a while, you should get a 'Bootloader Unlocked' notification on your phone.
If so, you're done with this step! On to the next one . KEEP YOUR CMD WINDOW OPEN FOR ADB
Step Two: Rooting Your Phone and Installing TWRP
1. Turn your phone back on like normal. Connect your phone to the computer so you can see into the storage (should be under My Computer->Your Device).
2. Download the following files. TWRP Recovery and SuperSU.
3.Take your 'recovery.img' and move it to the folder with your ADB and Fastboot (on your desktop). Make SURE it is in the same folder with the adb and fastboot programs and is named 'recovery.img'.
4. Take your 'SuperSu' zip file you downloaded (DON'T UNZIP IT) and move it to your phones SD card (preferred) or Internal Storage.
5. Once your recovery image is in the ADB folder and the SuperSU zip file is on your phone's storage, type the following command: 'adb reboot bootloader'
6. Your phone will reboot into the, now familiar, bootloader screen! For this tutorial, we are actually going to flash TWRP onto the phone so it is the phone's default recovery program. To do this, while in the bootloader screen on your phone, type the following command into your command console on your computer: 'fastboot flash recovery recovery.img'
7. Once it is done and successful, enter the following command into your CMD console to make sure TWRP in installed on your phone: 'fastboot reboot bootloader'. On your phone, use the Volume+ and Volume- keys to navigate to the 'Recovery' option. Press the Power key when it is highlighted!
8. Once you are in your TWRP, press the 'install' button. Navigate to the storage folder on your phone that contains the SuperSU zip file you moved from your computer onto your phone in step #4. When you see it, click on it and use the slider to flash it onto your phone. Once it is done, (as you should ALWAYS do after a flash), click the 'Wipe cache/dalvik' button and do the 'Swipe to Wipe'. Once done, click the 'Reboot System' button!
Step Three: Now your phone is rooted and has TWRP installed! It is time we install Cyanogenmod CM13!
1. Go HERE and download the 'Latest Nightly' rom at the top of the page. It will download a .zip file to your computer. Then go HERE, select ARM->6.0->Stock and hit the green download button (it's pretty big). Once both are downloaded, boot up your phone (if not already done) and connect it to your computer. Move both these .zip files to your phone's SD card (recommended) or internal storage.
2. Boot into recovery after the transfer is complete by holding the Power+Volume Down buttons. When the screen turns black, let go of the power button and continue to hold Volume Down.
3. Once in the bootloader, use the Volume+/Volume- buttons to navigate to the Recovery option. Hit the power button when it is selected.
4. Once in TWRP recovery go to install. Navigate to where you just transferred the two .zip files you just downloaded ONLY TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE THERE ALONG WITH THE SUPERSU .zip FILE YOU DOWNLOADED EARLIER. If it isn't, figure out why and correct it! If it is, continue (DO NOT INSTALL EITHER LOL)
5. Go to the 'Wipe' option on the homescreen of TWRP. REMEMBER TO HAVE BACKED UP ALL YOUR DATA BY THIS POINT. Move the slider to complete the wipe.
6. NOW we can install the rom! Go back to 'Install' on the homescreen of TWRP. Navigate back to the .zip file of the Nightly Build rom again (NOT THE GAPPS), and select it! Once selected, move the slider to flash Cyanogenmod CM13 to your phone. WE WILL NOT BE INSTALLING THE GAPPS YET. YOU WILL FIND OUT WHY SHORTLY.
7. Once it is done, hit the 'Wipe cache/dalvik' button. Once completed, go ahead and reboot the system! The first boot will take awhile to set everything up. Have patience!
8. Once everything installs, you will be at the setup screen. As you go through the setup screen, something weird will eventually happen...you won't be able to hit the 'Next Button'. The only thing that will happen is when you hit 'next' your phone will bring the system tray down from the top. It took me AGES to figure this out people...but NOT installing the GAPPS at the start is literally the only way to get past this (with GAPPS installed, it takes too long to proceed through setup and you will keep getting killed by the drop down screen). Get through it in step 9!
9. Once you get to the point in setup that the dropscreen comes down, position your right thumb so its hovering above the 'Next Button' and DON'T MOVE IT. Using your left hand, hold the power button until you see an option to 'Restart' the phone. Do it. And from the moment your phone restarts, RAPID TAP (and I mean it, tap as fast as your thumb will allow you) WITH YOUR RIGHT THUMB WHERE THE 'NEXT' BUTTON WILL BE. Do NOT stop until you have successfully got through the setup process and are on the android's home screen! At this point, you MAY have an issue hitting the middle gray button at the bottom of your phone (next to messages and chrome icons) without it bringing down the stupid drop screen. To fix this, once again position your thumb on the gray button that sends you to your apps and hover it there. Restart the phone again, and rapid tap where this gray button will appear upon boot. Once booted and you have successfully clicked the button, the error goes away! You can navigate your phone normally and reset it without the problem coming back! (if it does, simply repeat this past step to get rid of it).
10. NOW we can reboot back into the bootloader by holding the Power/Volume- keys. Once in the bootloader, navigate with the Volume+/Volume- keys to the recovery option, and hit the power button to boot up TWRP.
11. Once in TWRP, click the 'install' button. Navigate to where your GAPPS .zip file is (the one you just downloaded along with the nightly rom), click on it, and move the slider to flash it. Once it finishes, make sure to wipe the Cache/Dalvik. Do not reboot yet!
12. Navigate back to the 'Install' button of TWRP, and find your SuperSU .zip you installed earlier. Install it again for safe measures and wipe the Cache/Dalvik once it is done!
13. Boom. Restart the phone and you now have working CM13 6.0 on your Moto E 2015 Device! Now the moment you have all been waiting for, POKEMON GO !
Step 4: How to make Pokemon Go run GREAT
1. Once booted up, go to your system->about phone. Click on the 'Build Number' 7 times to unlock developer mode.
2. Go to your system->Developer options and make the following changes
-Advanced Reboot->ON
-Root Access->APPS and ADB
-Select USB Configuration->MTP (Media Transfer Protocol)
-Window Animation Scale-> changed to 0.5x
-Transition Animation Scale-> changed to 0.5x
-Animator Duration Scale-> changed to 0.5x
-Don't Keep Activities-> Turn ON
-Background Processes limit-> Change to 'At most 1 process'
3. Now, head to your system->Apps settings. Force Stop and Disable the following (unless you actually use it...)
-Cloud Print
-Docs
-Drive
-Fit
-Gmail (unless you use it, using chrome browser to access it is better option to keep phone running fast)
-Google Play Books
-Google Play Games
-Google Play Movies & Tv
-Google Play Music
-Google Play Newsstand
-Google+
-Hangouts
-Keep
-News & Weather
-Screen Recorder
-Sheets
-Slides
-Youtube
4. Go to your settings->security and enable 'Unknown Sources'
5. Go to settings->memory and hit 'Apps Started on Boot' and make the following changes
-Photos: deselect 'keep awake' and 'start at boot'
-Keep: deselect 'keep awake' and 'start at boot'
-Hangouts: deselect 'keep awake' and 'start at boot'
-Camera: deselect 'keep awake'
-Gmail: deselect 'keep awake' and 'start at boot'
-Exchange Services: deselect 'start at boot'
-Media Storage: deselect 'keep awake' and 'start at boot'
-Download Manager: deselect 'keep awake' and 'start at boot'
-CM Updater: deselect 'keep awake' and 'start at boot'
-Talk Back: deselect 'keep awake' and 'start at boot'
-YouTube: deselect 'keep awake' and 'start at boot'
-Google Play Movies & TV: deselect 'keep awake' and 'start at boot'
-Fit: deselect 'keep awake' and 'start at boot'
-Google Play Music: deselect 'keep awake' and 'start at boot'
6. Reboot the system! (hit the power button and hit reboot->reboot)
7. Go into the google play store, and login using your normal account settings.
8. Once logged in, download 'Kernel Adiutor (ROOT)' and open it up. Allow it to use root access (screen will pop up be looking for it).
9. Once opened, hit the tray button to the left of 'Kernel Information' (the three lines) and go to CPU. Slide the 'Apply On Boot' bar to the right to enable. Set your 'CPU Maximum Frequency' to '1209MHz' and 'CPU Minimum Frequency' to '400MHz'. Then, change the CPU Governor to 'Performance'.
10. Now that your phone is running faster than ever, go to chrome on your phone and google search 'Pokemon Go APK'. I used the 'APKPURE Pokemon Go APK 0.31.0' from m.apkpure.com. Your phone might glitch a tiny bit (it did for me the first time) and do a soft reboot. It's fine! Re-open chrome and hit the 'Download APK 59.9MB) bar beneath 'Verification Passed' and it will start downloading. Once it is done, open your 'File Manager' and go to the 'Internal Storage' then go to 'Download'. Click on the 'Pokemon Go' icon and allow it to install!
11. Start up the app, and MAKE SURE you only have ONE google email on the device. Let the game load, and set everything normally. When it asks you to login (if you use the google account one) right after you hit the google account, click on the screen in the middle rapidly. It SHOULD keep the game from re-setting. If the game does reset, don't fret. Restart it and try again. Once you get past this point? You phone should be running the game 2x if not 3x better than before! The final step is once the game is loaded, click on your pokeball icon and go to settings. Turn on battery saver mode!
Boom Bada Bing! Your phone should not only load the game ridiculously fast now, your battery life will be extended 2x-5x and the game will run at a steady rate keeping your CPU cooler than ever before!
This guide is compiled based on the struggles I faced getting the game to work properly. I got the phone from my wife while I wait and wait and wait for Pokemon Go to POSSIBLY come to my Windows Phone 1020 lol. When she gave it to me, it ran terribly and would overheat after 20 minutes of play in the sun. These are the ways I got the phone to run soo smoothly that now she ALMOST wants the phone back haha!
Any errors you see? Any fixes not mentioned? Give some feedback in the comments below!
Any reason for using stock gapps? You seem to disable most of the gapps anyway so perhaps it may be good to just go with nano or pico?
I put it in there in case someone wanted to use one of the stock gapps in the future.
Dude.... I already have CM 14 since a month....and I simply downloaded the app and followed the steps as you said..... Pokemon Go's still not working

That's due to Pokemon go now don't run on rooted phones.
For this you have to delete su files from following directory :
/System/bin
/System/xbin
Give it a try.... But you'll lose root access

Medion Lifetab P10505 TWRP and Root

Finally ported TWRP to the Medion Lifetab P10505 with working touch.
No guarantees are given, if you damage your tablet, all you do is on your own risk. I have the original ROM from Medion, if you need a full restore.
Please note that the TWRP recovery was not much tested and may be buggy. I didn't test with encryption or the restore process.
Please follow these steps:
1. Download all the files from Mega:
https://mega.nz/#F!pvQCQCxL!dfCHhGkliNSj-Wd3NcRV2ghttp://
2. Unpack all files into the same directory
3. If not done already, install the Intel Driver Package and reboot your PC
4. Unpack the ADB Tools into the directory
5. On your tablet go to your settings and enable USB debugging in the developer options. If you don't see the developer options menu under settings, goto about tablet and tip the build number seven times fast which will reveal the Developer options in the Settings.
6. Copy the file UPDATE-SuperSU.zip to your tablet (via USB or to memory card)
7. Switch off your tablet
8. Press and keep pressed the On/Off button and Volume Down button until you see the bootloader menu. Please press the buttons at the same time.
9. Now connect the table via USB cable to the PC.
10. Open a command window on your PC and change to the above created directory .
11. type the command: fastboot oem unlock (you can lock it again after the whole process if you want)
If this doesn't work goto the below section: Install recovery through flash
12. next type: fastboot flash recovery final_P10505_working_TWRP_3.0.2.0.img
13. Use the volume up or down button until Recovery mode is displayed.
14. Press the On/Off button shortly to start the new TWRP recovery menu. Please be patient until it fully loads. May take a couple of minutes.
15. Now choose install from the menu.
16. Proceed to the folder where you store the UPDATE-SuperSU.zip and select the file and swipe to install.
Note: If you forgot to copy the file to the tablet you can use the windows explorer to copy it to your tablet. There is a new device called Vi10 plus
(as mentioned it is only a port not build from source)
17. The Zip file should install
18. Use the back button to go back to the main menu of the recovery and select reboot and then system.
19. Now you have rooted the device and can create backups in the TWRP recovery.
20. To verify use any root checker tool from play store.
21. Feel free to hit the Thanks button
Install recovery through flash:
If there are any errors you can download the original ROM from Medion.de. You need then the Intel Platform Flash Tool Lite to install the ROM from Scratch (all your data will be lost).
When you run the flash tool, open the file from Medion.de and it will unpack the zip-file in the folder C:\Users\Your account name\.flasher\.download\p1050x-6.0-factory-v2.3
Proceed to the folder Just rename the file final_P10505_working_TWRP_3.0.2.0.img to recovery.img and replace the original file from Medion. Then hit the flash button.
Actually the Intel tool will perform the same command as above.
PS: I read that P10506 is hardware like the same as P10505, so it may work there as well, but no guarantees.
PPS: Credit go to the creators of the TWRP file for the Chuwi Vi10 plus (Highbook), which I don't know their names.
thank you for this, I used it on my P10506, the only difference was thead the command in section 12 has changed to:
fastboot flashing unlock
Cooool!

You're welcome,
but surely room for optimization of this tablet. On mine it happens after quite some that it becomes very laggy.
Hope yours is running better.

Seems to work fine.
No lags. Okay, not more laggy then it was before rooting.
But now i'd like to flash a custom rom... Any suggestions?
Regards.

I haven't seen any custom roms for this tablet, but I actually didn't look much. The problem is that it is nearly impossible without sources to create one.
any new mirrors available? mega zip file offline...
P10506
Thanks for the wonderful news! If anyone (Bernie?) could make the files / TWRP image available again, they'd make me and the previous poster even happier
Looking to root and TWRP my familys two P10506s - one still on 5.1 - should I update it to 7.1.1 (last available image from Medion) first?
Download Link
Somebody here who have the files available and can upload it again?
Would be great.
Thanks
