When someone makes a ROM/recovery for the C6802, will it work on the C6833 without any modification?
I don't want to get one model and then have everyone make ROMs for the model I don't have

A recovery will not affect the difference models, all components are the same, only different is on the modem inside the processor. ROM are another story, they will work, but a ROM compiled for a C6802 will only have the baseband (RIL, Radio) for the C6802 so 4G might not work on other model and the signal will be low or close to nothing. This can be solve by the devs, as for ROMs using aroma installer it is possible to include a choice of model with different baseband. Even this way it might take time to identify the best baseband for each device and each updates. And if it is not include in the ROM just need to flash it over without problem.
After we don't know yet how Sony managed the different basebands.

Of course we know how sony manages basebands. They do it the same way since 2010 ....
For rom you dont need to worry baseband will not be included in custom roms.
In the very rare case of a baseband update you can update it using flashtool and a stock rom in ftf format.
Why you not look on older sony devices bASKOU before answering?

I looked but as always when we start with a new device we need to find witch baseband do the job. As for example need to use the baseband of the c5503 on the c6603 for get LTE in Canada (1 example out of some others). And if have update from different country at different time and with different basebands. So as long as there is not so many firmware updates it does not really matter. But when start to have regular update and different between country it can become troublesome as the old baseband can not work well with the latest firmware. I just cross my fingers that's not the case.

No problem, I made some mistake as well when I explained first time. Mixed up many things and sometime it is not really clear.
I see you actively develop for the xzu and you own a c6833 in Europe, looking forward to see your future work

Hey I'm Australian and own an S3.. I'm sick of Vodafone update strategy.. I want to root, what do you think?
Sent from my GT-I9300T using Tapatalk 2
Ye root it, i rooted it too, except i think i need a replacement cause my phone has a problem.
Rooting could do lots of stuff.
If you ain't that good with computers and you don't want to stress yourself finding stuffs and working on it, don't do it cause it can risk your phone and might not brick.
Otherwise it's great to root
I've had the GNex.. I just hope it's as easy. Vodafone seriously piss me off..
I think Im Gonna root it.. just regret I didn't do that the moment I got it.. cause I seriously can't be stuffed going through the whole set up process again..

Why root it has nothing to do with updates or stock roms .

Would I be able to flash the latest original firmware without root?

well actually looking at your statistics i think you know well
hahaha
SGS3 doesn't really need root, as it is already good enough
but can make it better with root i think
yes

flashing is just to do with odin...so
if you get the firmware file and use odin
no need of rooting

you can download this and flash it with odin

Yes. But you'll be able to do so with root too...
Many people confuse the two, so just to clarify:
Rooting means having a tiny modification in the phone's operating system so it doesn't restrict you from superuser commands. This will not affect your installed data or ability to upgrade.
Custom Roms is replacing the stock rom with a new operating system package someone else built which may or may not largely differ from Samsung's own version.

I just want an official non branded ROM .so I can get the latest updates without carrier delays .
Sent from my GT-I9300T using Tapatalk 2
There are always delays, whether carrier-, region-, or whatever-related.
You can flash the newer Rom's through Odin tough (again: the flashcounter does not increase with original ROM's) to get it as soon as the file is released.
Unbranded S1's had to wait several months for Froyo update over here...
Where can I find the latest official firmware?
Also since I'm in Australia.. does it matter what region firmware I update to? Say.. can I update to an European based firmware?

So I asked a question like three days ago and I think I wasn't very clear
I have a Mexican SG3 and I want to try one of the European Jelly Bean Roms that have been out for weeks but I haven't really understood how does the builds and basebands work on this phone, I used to have an epic 4g touch from Sprint and I was used to only have one kind of baseband because it's an us phone only, but with this one I don't know what all the XX(insert random letters here) builds mean cause my phone has a build number of UBBLG2 and I'm afraid that if I install one of the jelly bean roms my data service will be lost...could someone please tell me how does this work
Sent from my GT-I9300
since its the international s3, you have no problem.

There is only one modem for JB, much more simple than allthe ics stuff. In the pointed thread download XXDLID baseband if you don't already have it.

Hello, I would like to ask something.
I knew that recently Samsung has released 4.3 update for Samsung Galaxy SIII International Version. The 4.3 update hasn't reach my country yet. I would like to know is it possible for me to flash another country's official frimware? Is there any negative effects?
Meanwhile, if I flash the latest stock rom back to my phone, will it be unrooted?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Yes, you can flash a rom from another country -which includes a modem for another country. If the modem is unsuitable you will lose signal strength or even all connection.
Of course if you flash an unrooted stock rom then your phone will be unrooted, that's the whole point.
Unless you are confident in flashing modems and kernels I would not advise using 4.3 yet -it isn't reliable unless you can replace both.
Thanks for the quick reply
In that case, is it possible to flash just the ROM without the modem/baseband? (SamMobile ROMs come with seperate PDA, Modem)
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
If your current baseband is EMGx or later then yes, you can flash just the rom.
Alright.

I'm looking for an unbranded, Europe modem. Also, thanks for reading my first post!

I think you are new to here.. would be better to read Faqs and Guides First to Know about your device and do rest of the things else you will mess up with it..
As far as I know, you should flash a modem without Ril because Cm have his own, or you will end up with a No Signal..
I have flashed ROMs on my Samsung Galaxy S since 1 year so I know some stuff. I never worked with modems and RILs. I knew CM has it' s own RIL but I thought maybe it would work with other RILs too. My modem is XXLF5. Also, the modem you have is umbraded? Because my phone isn't bought from Orange, it's unbranded by default.
By the way, thanks for giving me tips! Much appreciated!

I have flashed BUEMC2 modem(no Ril) with cm 10.2 and it's all OK for me even if the Ril don't match with the modem, but I'm from Italy with Vodafone carrier.. Here is a list of modem+Ril for the i9300 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2076857
if you want only the modem, delete the System folder that is in the zip file.

Hey
I had the same problem with the high dBm values after installing another modem/RIL
around 1200dBm for weak signal strength und ca. 1900dBm for good signal.
After reinstalling the RIL that came with CM10.2 everything worked fine (I made a Nandroid-backup)
The RIL is just the files in /system/lib/
libril.so
libsec-ril.so
right?
if yes => i could upload it (but I'm not shure if this will break any certificates)

You should always to check that you have the correct firmware for your specific device. But you can in theory flash/install UK firm on Europe Z2. But be sure to check this post, to always get the latest firmware and if you want a firm, you can find it there then. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2759934
