Discussion about latest HK firmware roll-out delay - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

Makes you wonder, doesn't it?
Of all the countries where ZU has been released so far, I am guessing HK has sold the most number of units judging purely by the market size (including all the grey exports which are likely from HK).
Maybe India has bigger population and potential market, but if I was a betting man, I would say HK has sold more units.
And Why Sony has delayed rollout of the latest firmware for such a major market?
Not because they have forgotten, I am sure. Hardware wise they are all C6802 and core of the update should be the same.
The differences in regional models would be the localised software, unique to that geographic location and language.
What is in the HK firmware that isn't n the others, that could be causing a massive delay?
(Anyone who moved from HK to Taiwan or any other in order to update can maybe shed light on this?)
Because if the above is not the case, my simple mind can only assume the remaining possibility, which is that Sony is aware of some fault with latest .510 firmware, and would rather it not get out to avoid headaches.
Unless HK (or China) just enjoyed a 2 week holiday which I am not aware about, I cannot think of any other reasons.
Somebody care to speculate?

Correct me anyone if I am wrong...
C6802 will never be LTE compatible.
SnapDragon 800 SoC used inside C6802 is different model number compare to other Z ultras, and has no support for LTE bands.
I am assuming they are different (slightly) hardware wise... but who knows?

You got that right? I thin thought they were different processors
C6802 has MSM8274

Hmmm..
Just looked at SD800 section on wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snapdragon_(system_on_chip)
and looked at Whitepaper for C6802, and it says ''Processor 2.2 GHz Qualcomm MSM8274 or MSM8974 Quad Core''
http://www-support-downloads.sonymobile.com/c6833/whitepaper_EN_c6802_c6806_c6833_c6843_xl39h_4.pdf
U need to scrol down to C602 section
Anyway, since MSM8274 is HSPA+ and MSM8974 is LTE, now I know theoretically both can exist in C6802, and that Yeeson has a point.
How do you check processor model in these phones?
Kinda excited that maybe my phone is LTE compliant.

Take a look at the thread in the

you are right!!
I just installed CPU / RAM / DEVICE Identifier from Google play
My HK C6802 is indeed MSM8974
This means when I do go home back to Japan for the holidays I can use LTE!!!
Thank you for telling me!
Now it makes me think...
Are all C6802 MSM8974? or only HK C6802?
To all those who have Taiwan, India, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia models... what is your SoC in C6802?

Sorry.. there was already discussion about SoC in different section, so any further discussion, lets go there.
But still curious about late roll-out of .510 firmware...

If you are wondering, look no further than Sony's Hong Kong website. You cannot buy it in Hong Kong. It's available for pre-order.

Lollipop?

So, whats the chances that Asus will update the Padfone X so Lollipop?
Considering the... delicate nature of the system of the device and the fact that at don't even have the latest version of KitKat, I regret to speculate little to no chance. However, most manufacturers have been working on getting the Lollipop update to their devices faster than usual, so I'd love to be proved wrong.
Asus announced that the padfone s will be upgraded to lollipop in april or March of 2015. Im sure padfone X will likely follow.
That wold be awesome if it got the lollipop upgrade... I have been dreading an even further decline in development for this device since its been pulled from most AT&T stores in the US.

That's normal. All phones have gone through that. Be glad it's AT&T and not Verizon, who takes even longer at their certification process.
And if you don't believe me, try looking at common phones such as the S4, and see how long it took between international versions and the US version for an update to release.

G6 UK/EU, No DAC, No Wireless Charging, No Release Date.... No thanks LG

I really feel let down here, in the UK/EU we won't get the additional hardware features like wireless charging and DAC yet we are still having to wait to learn when we get a release. Surely it's quicker and easier to manufacture kit with less hardware in it !?!
Double whammy, if i am going to have to wait then S8 here i come.
It will be interesting to see the price in the UK, might be why we have the most basic model.
If they charge a stupid price, then it will be a much harder sell.
S8 looks like it will be a stupid price, with current £/$

Agreed it will be a hard sell if they don't get the pricing right too, but they have the perfect opportunity to steal a march on Samsung and it looks like they might miss out completely with the S8 available for pre-order 29th March in an EU region according to the source in this article...
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/how-to/pre-galaxy-s8-galaxy-s8-29th-march-t3577914
It's an easy decision for me, because I don't like AMOLED. Although if it is priced crazily I still won't get the G6.
The P10 Plus even has my attention and I'm not a fan of Huawei. (Despite the fact most of our internet infrastructure seems to run on their kit, lol).

Seriously? I was monitoring the g6 to replace my g2. But no wireless charging or dac in Europe? Too bad for LG, because I won't buy it then.
I was considering importing the Korean version but have read that LG haven't honoured warranties in the past when people have done this. Not dropping £600 on a device with that type of risk (particularly with recent LG issues)

Here is the Aliexpress link
The discount brings the phone down to $ 719.00 - 744.99 which while high, is better than the recent announcements that this phone was going to cost $999 or more!
Seriously, who would by a Xiaomi phone at that price? Especially when Xiaomi phones are always missing a lot of bands, and we already know that this one is missing bands. If Xiaomi expects premium prices then they should offer 100% of the same bands offered by Samsung, One Plus, iPhone, and Google. Because at those prices there is no excuse to short change customers on anything. Including IP ratings, HD streaming and locally available, and solid customer service. Since we know those things are not yet available, this phone will fail horribly at selling units, that is unless they drop the price.
It's disappointing to see Xiaomi, who have always been about building quality phones at a low price follow in the footsteps of Huawei and others by substantially marking up the prices.
I had planned on buying this unit but now will wait and see what happens. Keep in mind that a Snapdragon 865 is only 25 % more powerful that a Snapdragon 855. While the Snapdragon 855 is 45% more powerful than the Snapdragon 845.
Finally, there is no doubt that this is a fantastic phone. Congrats to Xiaomi for building their best phone yet. But as I mentioned it is missing the things needed to be eligible for top shelf status.
Something else to consider: The phones are definitely cheaper if ordering from China, here is the issue with that : Miui 12 will be released sooner rather than later, and the Global version of Miui has been rumored to be evolving into a very different experience from the traditional Miui.

Huge thanks for your reply, it has really helped me.
I didn't realise the global version would miss any bands (I thought that was just the Chinese version.)
I've now checked the official Xiaomi page and the global version of the mi 10 is missing 3400MHz (Band 42)
Band 42 is used by all the UK network for 5g. (Including my network 3uk)
I'm not going to spend extra money getting a 5g phone if it's got a 5g band missing.
I need to look for another phone now, shame because I loved the phone and especially the camera [emoji3525]

It is listed as a global version and the global version has just been released for sale (or pre-order in Italy and Germany) on the same day.

After a little more research it appears even the Galaxy s20 ultra doesn't have 3400MHz (Band 42) either. I must be missing something here. I obviously need to do further research

I don't see any mention of band 42 on any network in UK, just see n78 which it has, other people in Europe have 5g working.

I bought it, last month, unfortunately from Japan. Didn't get a charger, no headphone, was a docomo model So-51B,missed out big time on Dual Sim and some bands. Fortunately Airtel and jio wifi calling works. Badly want the dual Sim feature, if anyone could help anyhow to achieve it would be awesome. BTW beautiful phone.
does any one who lives in india, know if any sites sent international.
Before you buy check if volte and WiFi calling work

If you have any friends or relatives at UAE, try getting it through them. I requested One of my friend at Fujairah, UAE to order a Sony Xperia 1 iii (Dual SIM, SIM Free, 12 GB RAM, 256 GB Storage, Black) from Amazon UAE (amazon ae) website for me. Even though it is not available in UAE, we got an Amazon Prime Product Listing in which Amazon UK Seller was providing International Shipping to UAE. Total Amount came up to around ₹ 92 K (Phone ₹ 85 K, Shipping and Handling ₹ 827, Import Fees Deposit ₹ 6 K). Ordered on 13 March 22 and got it delivered on 17 March 22. Genuine Product from Sony UK, came in a sealed pack, unscathed. Unboxed and confirmed that everything is fine. He will be back by this month end. Eagerly waiting to take over the dream machine.

Hopefully Volte works for you. Not many people are having success with Volte unless the phone is sold locally

Hi Hazzay ...
Am using Airtel & Jio SIMs, the major 4G players in India. VoLTE and WiFi Calling is working fluently in mY Sony Xperia 1 III (XQ-BC52).
VoLTE in Action
Initially i searched for VoLTE option in the settings but could not find it. I was like OMG. 4G Calling came to my rescue.
Jio 4G LTE with VoLTE enabled, in Action.
Airtel 4G LTE with VoLTE enabled, in Action.
WiFi Calling.
Took over the Phone from my friend on the 1st week of April. Sorry for the much delayed reply, was busy with my professional commitments.
Ohh wooow.
Did you have to do anything to get it working?
