Microphone volume low/muffled - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've had this issue since the galaxy s2 released and first bought it. Anytime someone calls me they say im whispering or talking to softly into the phone and I literally have to yell into the phone just so that they can hear me. I am looking for working suggestions on how to fix this. I have tried http://www.ctrlplusz.com/2011/06/fix-for-low-microphone-volume-on-the-samsung-galaxy-s-ii/
but after entering the number nothing happens.

What firmware are you on? Ics,Jb ? Try dorimanx and up the level by a few db. Also have you had a chance to change network and see if its network problem. Even a modem change could possibly help.

Thank you for the quick reply. I am using 4.1.2 on neat roms latest v4.8. I have tried various modems such as kg2/kg6 i am currently using lpj. I'm also using philz kernel. I haven't noticed any difference at all my signal is fine it is around -60dbm. Don't quite follow upping the db with dorminax?

In stweaks you can change mic db. 8.xx for 4.1.2 not 9.xx try and see. Have a read about dorimanx.

Hello bro.....
I just upgrade my wife phone to a I9100 phone ....cause I think s2 still the best phone where I'm using too.....the phone is JB 4.1.2 upgrade from ics.....I bought it secondhand....I'm now having problem listening to her voice......cause its so low like she is whispering.....so annoying .....its not the mic of the headset or the headphone mic's problem .....cause the result are same......(tried few headphones )
I'm very sure its not the mic problem .....its something related to the mic settings(modem settings ) .....
Any pro please guide me to solve this problem. Please help.

I'm not a pro but follow what's on the thread mate.
Dorimanx db settings.
Modem change to the same as yours.
And are you on the same network? If not change to the same and test it.

Hate to bump my old thread but i'm still having this issue. I've opened the phone and removed the rubber hood over the mic and have seen no improvement. I also have dorimax installed with the mic volume level at 8db and still it sounds like im muffled and far from the phone;/

I would advise to use apollo regular kernel and install appollo configrator from play store and increase the volume.

I did the same, but dB boost doesn't work on mic.
I never tried apollo, I think it is stock based (correct me if I'm wrong)
I always like beta's, testing out new features and already have the goods that the stable version also has.

Yep the db boost seems to do nothing. I'm on cm 10.1 if it matters. If you figure anything out let me know

in call you will have a mic symbol below, press it to enable/disable noise reduction
Im having the exact same issue. Its not the modem too, tried two others already.
When getting back to stock the problem is solved. But when returning to stock by a nandroid backup, the problem persists. Thats odd!
Edit:
Maybe nothing to do with it: but the TS en I are on the same provider!?
Exactly the same over here, does anyone have an idea what this could be.
Did you use a dutch modem?

Another user with the same provider and the same problem.
I tried flashing the stock-rom modem and even that doesnt work at all!!!

I am working on a application level fix that will disable noise reduction on (potentially) all Samsung devices that can do so. Please register your interest here.
Regards,

AOKP and Skype

Why the hell does it not work ? I can sign in it makes all the noise, I call it rings I can hear the ringing sound but when the other person picks up I can hear their voice for a split second then it goes silent
Weird thing is if I unplug the headphone I can hear their voice for a split second then silent. I tried different AOKP roms and all the same results.
bump any input ?

One question: are u talking about external speaker volume or in-call volume?
"To err is human, to forgive is divine"
Sent from my SGS II
I am talking about inbuilt speaker volume and its not just about calls, its about Music and Video Files. All sound coming out from my phone speaker is kind of low. Is there anyway to boost the volume than the normal?

No.
Changing a baseband (modem) will not do anything for volume other than call volume where the poor volume is caused by poor reception/connectivity issue. And even then it's not really 'fixing a low/poor call volume issue', it's more allowing normal call volume by fixing the reception/connectivity issues.
It will not make one iota of difference to ringtone, alerts, alarms, media volumes, etc.
It is good to be aggressive, i think you did not properly go through my post. I have clearly said that in call volume will be affected others will not. I have tried this and it has worked for me at least rest, you are the boss.

The OP made it abundantly clear it wasn't a call volume issue, and the person who revived this thread yesterday made absolutely no mention of what type of volume issue he was having.
My point about changing modems stands, that particular modem will more than likely work best with a particular carrier/or in a particular country (given specific modems are bundled with stock roms released by different carriers), and may actually make other people's connectivity worse.
Check.
And mate.

You yourself stated that the person made no mention of what kind of volume issue he had. In which case my advise on the aforementioned issue can not be held inappropriate.
btw we are playing not playing chess here

The Galaxy S2 / i9100 Jelly Bean update needs different approach to raise the in-call / headset volume than previus versions.
First you need to flash a modem which allows audio to be modified. For example the XXKI3. If you dont do it you couldn't access the necesary menus.
Next do the following:
1. Enter this number in the dialer to access the service mode: *#19732864*
2. go to [5] Audio
3. [1] NB (VOICE CALL)
4. [7]HANDSET (2MIC)
5. [1]Volume
6. [1]SRC Speech RX Volume
7. [5]5_lvl: 88
8. menu button / key input and insert a 100
9. Exit the menu and you've done!

Dont know why, but on Omega rom, with Siyah kernel, I cant enter 5 AUDIO menu at all. In call volume is low. On the same rom, and kernel before reflash everything was ok. Before rom flash did Rom Nuke, also Kernel Wipe. This is crazy...

[Q] i9300 microphone volume

I have a Galaxy S3 International model and the mike volume during calls is crap.
If I use an ear piece no problems,
if i use skype the hands free works beautifully.
If i use it normally or handsfree for an actual phone call i have to nearly yell into the phone to be heard.
I have tried *#*#197328640#*#* but can not get into the audio menu, that just doesnt work. Other menu items do.
The phone is rooted and I am using cm 10.2.
I have tried doing a factory reset and reloading the rom but no luck there.
have done lots of googling but most pages i have found talk of hardware faults or a blocked mike hole which isnt my issue as it works fine with the earpiece and with skype.
i have looked at the profiles, tried turning them on and off. I suspect that there must be a setting somewhere but damned if i can find it.
Anyone got any ideas ?
thanks
Go back to stock 10.1.2 and test, S3 has two microphones so skype isn't a valid test.
If problem is still there on stock then you need a service centre.
Built in mike has modifiers on stock rom in the default gain file . But as i understand it it does not apply or is a different file for Android roms .
jje
are you using a custom kernel? if so, that's what is tweaking your mic gain. try the proper kernel for your rom that allows audio tweaking or ones that are properly tweaked out the box

Voice Audio Problem

Hi ... pulling my hair out with this one...
my fathers phone is a galaxy sIII, less than a month old. basically what has happened is that the voice call audio doesn't work, ie the person on the other end can't hear me. I've tried resetting and installing 4.1.2 and 4.2.2 roms and none have worked. I was gonna say it was a hardware problem but for 2 things
1. skype calls work with no problem and
2. I can hear background noice (for instance if I blow into the microphone I can hear it, just not voice
Any ideas?

Have you tried installing a different kernel? Might be the microphone sensitivity that is set too high.
Try installing a kernel that is compatible with Boeffla_sound. Then use the boeffla_sound app to check the microphone gain.
You can also try changing it from within the boeffla_sound app.
