Taking a Risk - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Guys i have a question to ask.First thing is my bootloader unlocking allowed is to No.But there is another guy on this forum who had the same status but he says he managed to unlock it.Now i want to try my luck cuz i want to taste Jellybean & i cant afford to buy an new phone. So the question is if i try to unlock my bootloader it wouldnt brick my device in any way even it is unlockable?

And why do you need to unlock bootloader to install jelly bean?

I have an Xperia Sola.

And it doesn't have JB.So will my device be bricked if I try to unlock it ?

It could get bricked mate. It's not a good idea i think.
Why don't you install just a custom rom based on ics?

OK thanks mate.I am currently using a custom rom based. I think with announcement the of kit kat ICS will become the GB now(no updates & losing app support). But I have a question to ask from you as you are a much respected member of the forum I think a long time ago when Galaxy S4 was released some carrier released it with locked boot loader but people were able to find a software to still flash kernel on S4 won't that work on Xperia devices ?

Thanks for your kind words mate.
Have no idea if it can be used on xperia devices too. I think trying installing a mod from another device it's more risky than trying to unlock your device.
Also, i wouldn't recommend you install JB on a 512mb device. You always will have some lags even if the rom is optimized. So my suggestion is to keep using ics custom rom.
Don't be afraid of the 4.4 kitkat. Don't think that ics will not receive some apps from Googleplay and i am telling you that because didn't happen even if 4.3 is already out.

First, you need to unlock your bootloader (if your bootloader could be unlocked). Refer to this link to check if you can and for instructions on how to unlock it.
Then root your phone with these instructions, read from "Rooting instructions".
Hope that helps.

Unlock the bootloader and root like classic (install the Koush SuperUser app and get the .zip file from it, then flash it via recovery).
You could use [email protected]'s 'Root MANY android' tool if you dont want to unlock the bootloader.

Try Codename 9 ROM.. It's the best custom ROM out there for GB and locked bootloaders!

Sony Xperia U android 4.1 Jellybean Custom ROM?

Hi,
I currently own a Sony Xperia U flashed with 4.0 ICS and I was wondering whether it woud be possible for me to develop a custom ROM with android 4.1 Jellybean on it.
Would I first need to Develop a custom Kernel?, And if so, How?
I have the SDK with the 4.1 libraries already.
Also if anybody else has an Xperia U, perhaps we could get a little team together.
Thanks
I think You must put this on Q&A section
Not in DEV section
Please READ THE RULES before posting
Wrong section i think................

OK, i created a list of requirements / blue-print for creating JB for our phone.
LIST :
1. Kernel
Support Overclock up-to 1.2 Ghz
Support init.d
Support KSM
Support latest ClockWorldMod Recovery (v5.0.0.2.8 or 6.0.1.3 )
2. ROM
CM10 = Hell good for modificiation
AOKP = Smooth like a butter
Paranoid = Tablet, Phable / Nexus 7, Phone UI ? All in One
PAC = Have all three ROM i listed, heavy but full of features
3. UI
Xperia = Stock, i think little boring
Holo = Stock Android 4.1 UI, black-blue-white.
TouchWiz = Stock Samsung look, boring.. except you offer TouchWiz 5 which top notch Samsung UI.
I can resize UI and porting ROM. But cannot build kernel.

Also, many JB 4.1.1 (not 4.1.2) sources are tied into ICS, so getting ICS first will be easier to get JB.

I didnt have good experiences with custom ROM/Kernel thingies... I had SGY earlier and I tried many custom ROMs. All people are lauding in the threads but on my phone the ROMs were buggy and laggy. Now I have an XPU and installed a famous custom rooted overclocked kernel. The phone lagged too much, too often, so much so that I have to reflash the clean plain stock firmware package altogether..
for XPU I'd suggest 6.1.1.C.1.0. Though the camera focus is slow but the overall performance is marvelous. AnTuTu scores 7287. On the first ICS update, it was somehwat like 5500....
You won't get an answer here as the work for ROMs are done on the developer's free time. It's simply rude to say that Rom X is better than Rom Y.
Try them all out and see for yourself.
Thanks guys good point also the devs put there time into ROMs and that would be rude

[Devs-only][WIP][ThinkTank] Dualbooting on Xperia U

Now It's a pain in the *** to test a rom and we have to restore rom or some sort to get back to our daily rom.
And Sony Xperia S had succeeded,I'll take it as a reference and see if we can work on this.
This is not a placeholder.
Link to the Xperia S thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1880305
I'll be "investigating" this. And I also need all the devs help. (I'm not really an highly skilled developer,so I would really need some help here)
Devs only please. No request for tester or users that asks for ETA. Do not post any reply unrelated to development on this thread.
Keep it only for devs, and make it clean.
Devs,good luck to you guys.
Dual recovery is needed,I'll start by porting TWRP. (I'll focus on this first)
Wow. This is kick ass stuff.
Similar to what was done in G3MOD, except that here its actually dual boot, with the ROMs installed on internal storage, while there it was implemented in a slightly simpler way by packing multiple ramdisks and extracting system.img files when required to switch between ROMs.
Considering our already existing problem of not having of an expandable storage, G3MOD's implementation seems far more appealing.
I will take a look at this soon enough.
Well I didn't store a lot of things on my device, only roms and some other stuff,my internal storage is actually more than enough.
But that method seems to be more friendly on the internal storage,as we have a lot of unused phone memory. (the place where roms are installed to)
I'll look into that too.
Edit : It seems like the G3MOD project is already abandoned. But we can look at their sources at github.

We're trying to dual boot different rom with different kernel
I don't believe that we can make it load a different kernel! If we could then we could also let permanently locked bootloaders to do so too! We will have to load it from a single kernel!

In the first thread,Xperia S is able to load two kernel.
why is there always have to be made for locked bootloader?
custom kernel NEEDS an UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER.
how can you use a single kernel?via the patch?
