[Q] Menu button stops working - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I've read some posts where the menu and back buttons stop working. In my case, it's only the menu button. Both times have been while I was in Dolphin and wanted to exit the browser via the menu button. The only way to restore it is to reboot the phone. Could Dolphin itself be causing this behavior?
Thank you.

Does the home button actually exits the app?

I notice that the pressing the home button while in an app works differently for different apps
For example in Google Maps, when I press the home button, it exits the program
However in the default browser, when I press the home button, it goes to the home screen but the app doesn't exit (it's still visible as running in the task manager)
How do I close the Browser? there's no option to exit it either
Press back button until you get to home screen. That's how you exit most of the applications. If you press the home button, most of the apps will keep running in the background.

This applies to the browser as well?
Wow if I opened up 5 windows, I have to back all the way til the browser closes!

Yes, it applies to browser as well. You can close tabs before pressing back if you don't wanna press the button too many times
Or use dolphin browser which you can exit with only 2 clicks..press menu and select exit..

Another way of closing browser in 2 steps can be, open a new window and hit back button.

Or just hold home button > task manager > exit app you want
Why would you exit it anyway ? Android is made so that you don't need to actually exit your apps. Especially Browser.

Do you mean to say that when I go back to the home screen, the browser cuts off data usage automatically?
(Sorry, coming from Symbian, I'm a total Android noob! )
Browser is put into "idle" mode, so while the app is still kept in memory for quick resume, it doesn't use any CPU power or data.
If your device needs RAM, Android OS will automatically shut down the app to release some memory.

[Q] Long press browser history gone?

Greets,
Just flashed aokp_p4wifi_build-37 on my GT-P7510 (awesome, btw), but it seems that the ability to long press on back button in the browser has disappeared. In the stock ROM, long pressing on the browser back button and/or the navigation bar back button (while browser is open) would bring up a list of previous pages in the stock browser. I don't see this option via the "quick controls" either. I'm getting the sense I'm missing something obvious, and am looking for clues.
Thanks...
it works on cm9 but not AOKP. I think this is because the long back press is intercepted by ROM Control(ROM Control>Navigation bar>Navigation Bar Buttons).
Thanks f2. That explains perfectly. Perhaps there will be a workaround at some point; I've become too dependent on that feature...

[Q]Mod menu button to Multitask botton

there were three buttoms on our phone
back home and menu
but the ics's three buttom is back home and multitask
i am wondering that can someone mod menu buttom to multitask buttom?
when i press menu and i will open multitasking screen just like original ics
and sorry for my poor engliah
Here you can see what has happend to the menu button.
There where you need it, it is a little button on the right corner or on playstore right left corner.
But the optiones are not away, in ICS you've got more options!
You still need that menu button for legacy apps, otherwise you couldn't access the menu.
Long-pressing home button still acts as a multitask button.

I'd prefer the option to use the menu button as a multitasking button, get the settings icon in proper ics apps, and long press for menu in legacy apps. Is that option available?

[Q] Remap/change hardware button functionality?

Hi, I found some old threads about changing keylayout and stuff, but nothing recent (you know: since JB) and I just got the phone yesterday.
Right now, the phone does this:
Menu button press: menu
Menu button hold: Google Now (search)
Home button press: Home
Home button double-press: SVoice
Home button hold: Recent Apps
Back button press: Back
And I would like it to do this:
Menu button press: Recent Apps
Menu button hold: menu
Home button press: Home
Home button double-press: nothing
Home button hold: Google Now (search)
Back button press: Back
I'm kinda surprised that I can't find an app for this, as it really just seems like I'd be changing a little bit of text inside some config/layout files.
FWIW, I'm running completely stock but I rooted it yesterday. No ROM has been flashed, and I would love to keep it that way. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Biggidy biggidy bump
My thread got pushed off the front page faster than I could find Google Now on my new phone.

Thanx - nice find!
It still doesn't accomplish what I want, though... And I am a HUGE proponent of keeping things simple. My least favorite thing about Windows 8? All those muthereffin gestures that you need to memorize. It's not simple, and you have to completely relearn how to use an OS that you've been using for ages.

[Q] Unable to access multi tasking

I found myself with this problem yesterday. I am unable to access the multi tasking menu with the apps. My home button works fine, my back button works fine but as soon as I try to double click the home button the menu with all of my apps in the background does not come up.
Any obvious solution to this that I am forgetting?
