Hi guys my S3 GT-i9300 is stuffed and i have to take it to samsung to be repaired now i dont want a new motherboard and im guessing cuz its an expensive job thats what i will be told needs doing-makes them more money than simply reflashing OS EFS and Modem.
If i only want the above mentioned re flashed/repaired and ask for just that verbatim, will it make sense to the guys at Samsung and is it the correct thing to ask for
What ive done is root the fone, not backup the efs folder, delete lots of important folders(including efs) thinking i was getting rid of previous os install clutter (now the phone wont connect to carrier wifi wont work and imie is different to one on sticker when *#06#)
So i have a fone that looks perfect with the latest Australian firmware installed on it now but cant connect to any carrier in my case amaysim.
I have tried various efs repair guides and proceedures but none are working for me so i dont need help with ways to fix efs i just need to know if i will be asking the samsung guys for the correct repairs to make my fone useable again.
Many thanks
Octapus Box should i buy to repair imie will it work
Hi there guys
SG S3 GT-i9300
I have a problem with my fone not registering on the network and my imie has changed from the sticker to a random number and have been forced to take the phone to samsung to get it repaired
Have tried all the guides on forum to repair restore reflash imie and none are working for me. I have latest firmware PDA australian installed on my s3 now and still cant get carrier registration or connect to my home wifi
can octopus box fix the problem i'm encountering now?
PS
if it turn out it can fix the problem i will buy one and help anyone near me free cuz this problem is way too common and there are plenty like me that rushed in without thinking and reading-so if you need help pm me in a couple of weeks gonna order it if reply to my question turns out to be yes
Box can fix your problem if you dont have an efs backup
Uk service centre fix IMEI about £25 .

Samsung saved me and didn't insist on new motherboard

Just got my fone back from samsung and they only charged me an inspection fee which was cool-that said i could've had it done free if i had reset the binary counter to zero with the program "triangle away" but being the einstein i am i couldn't connect to my home wifi (wrong password entered lol) but i thort i couldn't connect cuz my fone was playing up (wrong modem installed). wasnt that...it was me!
They installed the latest firmware for me and reflashed my imie so that it matched the one under the battery-Now what perplexed me with that is that i took the fone to three different phone repair shops in the shopping mall near me, and none of those guys could fix the imie. I'm rather confident that the dudes in these mall phone shops have things like octopus box and Z3X boxes etc-why on earth couldn't they do what samsung did?
Anyone got any ideas does Samsung have special software that no one else can get their hands on or what?

Wat if I have no efs backup
Same thing happened to me before. After trying to downgrade my baseband my efs got corrupted (no signal/cant connect to metwork) i have no choice but to bring it to samsung service center they want me to replaced the motherboard.i refused and went to small phone repair shops and they managed to repair/rewrite my efs using the box. Maybe those small repair shops in your country have boxes but dont have the specific type for samsung

While trying to update Leomar's Revolution Rom to 2.6 yesterday, i suddenly lost all signal. I saw that my baseband and IMEI were listed as 'unknown', and by looking on here I realise that it is probably due to my EFS becoming corrupted. I need advice about what would be the most sensible thing to do now.
Would there be any issues arising if I try and restore my EFS using one from someone else's phone? I was able to get one online, but I'm wary that it will cause problems down the line. Is it easy to do?
Otherwise, Carphone Warehouse said they can send my phone for repair, but it would take 14 days. What steps do I need to take to put my phone in a condition were they won't say I've voided my warranty by rooting etc. Is it necessary to use a usb jig to reset the counter?
On a side note. I haven't been able to restore any of my Nandroid backups. I don't know if this is a new problem, or has always been there as yesterday was the first time I tried on this phone. Is there an obvious solution to this?
Many thanks in advance.

Yes USB jig required also either the original rom or a stock rom .

There are lots of dodgy mobile phone repair shops near here. Are they likely to have the USB jig?
update Leomar's Revolution Rom to 2.6
seems like the rom I downlaod is no good. Redownload and install solve my problem.
Can anyone advise about trying to flash someone elses EFS?
Also, any help on my nandroid restore not working?
USB jig ordered.
But, can anyone advise about trying to repair EFS myself?
All you can do is read the posts asking the same question to see if their is an answer .
jje
Thanks.
I've looked, but had some concerns on top of what had been said previously.
I'd like to try and use the EFS from someone else's phone, but didn't know what could go wrong, and if it would affect trying to get it repaired at a later date.
Flashing someone elses EFS is not advised, You may end up cloning there IMEI, or stuck with the generic IMEI.
Your best bet is to flash the original stock rom, usb jig away the flash counter and send it back.
And when you get a new one, take a backup of the EFS folder
Thanks,
I guess it is the most sensible thing to do, and hopefully nothing should go wrong (apart from no phone for 2-3 weeks )
Firstly, you should not use someone else's EFS as it contains the other person's IMEI. It is "illegal" to modify your IMEI, and using a cloned IMEI, in any if not all countries.
Secondly, a USB JIG does not fix anything, it is only useful if you cannot use the buttons to boot into download mod. It is also useful to reset the Custom Binary Counter.
If you have your own EFS backup, use that, if not, send it back to Samsung or the place of purchase for warranty. You can choose to have the custom binary counter resetted by using a USB JIg, however, if you do not, you can still send it back in to Samsung directly. Bring it to the Samsung service center directly if you wish to have it returned back to you sooner than 14 days.
It looks like there is a service centre near me. I'll reset my counter with the USB jig, and then take it there.
Thanks.
So this damned problem happened to me too!.. My phone hasn't been rooted or anything.. just today my Sim lost signals so I decided to turn on the flight mode on and off to reset the networking but the flight mode wont turn off..
I remember when this happened to me before once too I had taken the battery out once or twice also had restarted the phone and it started to work again but now it didn't respond to that treatment at all..
Got online read about the problem to know that I also have the 'Unknown IMEI/IMEI SV/Baseband' problem.. I have no idea what so ever what to do to fix it.. my phone has warranty till 30th November.. I don't know if the partner will honor the warranty but anyhow as of yet I can't go to the service center cause its already closed.. will tomorrow.. anyhow been reading around..
Saw these two threads..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1261948
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362285
Both are explaining replacing the corrupt EFS files with back up ones.. but what scares me what if I don't have them? as explained in thread 2..
anyhow is there any way to fix the problem without rooting? I'm not sure if those methods are for none rooted devices..
I'm just a noob I have never even tried rooting or even updating! just because I was happy with what I had...
Backup data and factory reset if that does not fix its a service centre .
Or you mess with other methods that may brick your phone or void warranty in any case .
Tell service it has happened before .

-sighs- Alright.. its service center for me.. the only problem is.. sending phones to service center here is like inviting more problems to whatever you are trying to get fixed >.>..
I still can't believe why my phone lost/corrupted such critical files when I never even tried messing with it..
D: I should messed with it! lol..
M.. well anyhow wish me luck.. the phone served me a good 6 months..

My phone wasn't rooted.. nor did I back up anything I don't think I can even see if I have those files or not without root privileges..
I just wanna hear the worst case scenario..

unless there is way to check please let me know..
Alright.. Sad news for me, The retailer I bought the phone from told me the service center is an other city(whoa) and he then further pointed to that service center's outlet here that would take my phone and process it through..
The guy kept saying this error only happens when you are updating but I was never updating to begin with.. never have updated my phone!
Now I'm worried if going to this outlet and handing my phone over to them for I don't know how long! without any replacement phone is a good idea or not.. Nor do I think I'm willing go to take a trip to the other city.. but tomorrow I would definitely visit the outlet..
anyhow I'm deciding to try out the methods or restoring my Phone's Efs files here because honestly I don't think anyone here has a clue, I've been hovering on these forums and lurking around for almost an year and I was gonna root my phone anyway after the warranty period was over..
now my question is, Can I root without any issues having the 'Unknown Baseband/IMEI'? I have done a factory reset which has cured the flight mode problem but my phone isn't responding to Kies on PC cause it seems to be stuck on 'connecting'.. but I'm assuming that wont be a problem when rooting.. but again this is why I'm asking the advanced and experienced users..
I've read most of this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
and have understood most of it however I'd definitely need some mature advices over this matter..
I'm just rooting to try the App GSII_Repair by Helroz.. anyhow still mature Advice needed..
Please Help me out guys
bump..

THATS NOT TRUE THEIR ARE A NUMBER OF METHODS THAT MAY WORK IN SOME CASES .
But you cannot restore something you never backed up in the first place .

well so there is no point in doing all this because I haven't backed up my efs files(which I never could from the first place cause I never tweaked around)
many people out there have explained having not saved any efs files.. yet they have been able to get their back using different methods.. I mean I'm assuming it must have happened when I took the battery out? assuming a sudden loss of power supply corrupted the files?

Ok guys! This is simple, i bought this GS2 from a friend a couple days ago. He told me the phone had no IMEI and since i have seen this before on other Galaxy S variations and have been able to fix it i thought it was a good buy. Thing is i didnt realize how hard it was going to be to fix that. He tried to unlock that phone who knows how and it completely messed up the efs folder. I have tried the 9 step Imei restore method and some other tricks with no luck. Problem with this phone is that it doesnt even have a dummie imei number. In fact, not even zeros, just nothing when i try to check for an imei number. Any suggestions for this. Or should i just look for someone to buy the lcd and dump the motherboard to the trash?? Thanks!
Without a backup of the original, working EFS folder you are probably more or less stuck. I've been in the same situation before and ended up having to get the phone replaced.
Contact a member on here called Odia via PM. He is sometimes able to recover IMEI's/EFS details when everything else has failed (for a small donation). If everything else you've tried hasn't worked, that's probably your last chance.
Yep odia said corrupt efs was no problem to fix.

Here's the only fix I know of for a galaxy s2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iY9cDkj4CCw! If it works, make sure to make multiple backups of your efs folder on sd card/pc/drop box etc!!
You can view your efs folder using the Root explorer app!!
Here's the download link for the galaxy s2 kTool fix: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.hellcat.droiddev.ktool&hl=en Good luck!
If all else fails, your only other option is here: http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-imei-efs-repair/
You can try to fix the efs partition following this guide : forum.samdroid.net/f70/repair-imei-s2-5729/
You'll probably get a generic IMEI after that, then contact the guy he will set back your original IMEI. I had exacly the same problem and it worked !
Wow guys thanks a lot for all those replies! Ill keep in touch and tell you how it goes!
Thank for your help jje, I've tried many methods but none of them seem to be working. (Done factory reset, installed CWM recovery, wiped caches, adb shell) I've a feeling that this phone needs a main board as well. He's got insurance for his phone so at this point, I think, it's not worth the hassle anymore.

[email protected], even changing almost any galaxy S lcd is not worth it when it breaks. Have you seen the prices of those lcd replacement screens? We do it for the sake of learning. Although in this case you might be right, because just like your phone this one doesnt even have a baseband showing. But still im pretty shure its a software and not hardware issue. This is about something that went really wrong while unlocking or trying to do something like that with it. Too bad i dont even know what happened with this one. No efs backup or anything
What actually happened is my friend went into this badly network covered area, lost the signal and he was back to a place again, where is a strong network coverage the phone just would not log on and stuck in flight mode.
So my s2 was on gingerbread rom and I decided to flash 4.1.2 via odin. Phone booted up and asks for sim unlock code. I learnt then that it locked the phone. I used Galaxy_S unlock https://play.google.com/store/apps/...sMSwxLDEsImNvbS5oZWxyb3ouZ2FsYXh5c3VubG9jayJd
but it didn't work so I restored the efs. Then I tried this Galaxsim http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1846451 and it says unlocked so rebooted phone but when making or receiving phone calls, it disconnects. The paid version from play I havent tried but Im guessing will be the same?
Imei still shows so Im not sure what I have done wrong.
I have efs backup from both of those apps and also a efs.autobackup in the root of internal storage date in January. Not sure how that got there as this phone had GB over a year.
Please help
Do you get any signal at all?
The paid version won't help as this could be a modem issue.

Ok long story short. I have a i9100g that came to me only displaying 3 icons (phone ! computer). Using the method I found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1619571&page=21 I managed to bring it back to life but no imei.
I managed to write so far a stock 4.0.4, 2.3.6 and 2.3.4 trying to repair the imei problem. I have acces to a good efs folder of a i9100g but even after I replace it on the phone the imei is still unavailable.
I tried using the gsII_repair but it tells me its done but it isnt.
I tried using Efs pro software. With the phone's initial efs files it gave me an error at nv recovery but with the good ones I have the software says everything is ok.
My question is. Should I give up on trying to find a software based repair and try for hardware ?
Or if anyone has any more ideeas that might help I would be glad to try em all.
I must add I have no ideea how the phone got like that before it came to me nor do I have any clue where the phone is from.

I am terribly sorry for posting in the wrong place. I didnt find a q&a for i9100g

Hey, so the other day I dropped my phone and it was still working fine until it ran out of battery.. I came home charged it and turned it on.. it wouldn't get past the samsung screen and I decided after trying to flash different roms on it to take it into a phone store to fix it.. they eventually got it booted but now the simcard wont register.. they ordered a new simcard reader part to see if that'll fix it and that doesn't work.
I also can't even connect to my wifi, Is this hardware or is my phone bricked or something?
Why not Odin flash factory image and go from there.
I think the flash was not successful and it deleted your efs file and the only way to fix this is by jtag box
Go to a samsung shop(or whatever they call it) and let them fix it .

nope he can recouver the IMEI without the jtag or samsung shop just google it and youll find somthing.
EFS has nothing to do with the WiFi.
Personally as you have no warranty i would try flashing a stock rom via Odin first .
