Recently the proximity sensor doesn't seem to work properly. The screen goes black when the call starts and only lights up when I press the lock button.
There is no screen protector interfering with the sensor and canging roms doesn't seem to have any effect, so it looks like a hardware problem.
Anyone have a solution to this? Perhaps disabling the proximity sensor completely?
Try the code which takes u in the secret menu of dx ...helps to test the diff hardware options , it has many tests like led , proximity n so on ...I don't know the code but Google it ...

Have you tried to close the ambient sensor with your hand? If you're on dark room it should automatically lid. but if you're on the bright room, it is of course turned off. there's an app on Market to monitor the ambient sensor. Play with your thumb above the sensor to see if it's working or not.

Hmm i don't know any other solution manjeet. But i want to share you the same experience like yours..
I have just reflashed into the normal firmware. but when i tried to test the light by closing the light sensor, i am surprised to know that the keyboard was not lid too! It just works for 1 second when i open the keyboard, and turns off soon. i was in panic then, but i tried to be calm, and when i tried to hide into a dark room, it works again. Fiuhh..
I don't know but maybe you need to really go to the dark places. Seems that the Proximity sensor and Light sensors work in tandem. If it still fails in the dark, then i guess you really need to have it serviced.. Dunno bout the cost, but it shouldn't be too expensive..
Good luck with your u20i bro.
thanx hansip......

Hi,
I have AutoLock installed on my phone (Galaxy S2), but is not working very good. I need an application that lock and unlock (same as power button) the phone with help of proximity. Somebody know a good app for this?
Thanks in advice!
what do you mean lock (!) and unlock phone with proximity?
put your face in fron of your phone and un/lock??
Something like that, but just for pocket, when i have an object in front of the proximity sensor, the screen must turn off, when is nothing in front, on... and so on
+1 I need this app!
Smart Screen On App will make your day!!!
u must try this app but it drains about 15 to 20 % of ur battery and this app is for manual lock /unlock using proximity sensor
Pro version :https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=it.android.smartscreenon&feature=related_apps
Lite version:https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=it.android.smartscreenonlite&feature=more_from_developer
the app for auto lock/ unlock using proximity sensor is
smart screen off

i did *#0*# test . you should press sensor menu and when you put your finger close to proximity sensor the screen has to turn green and phone must vibrate. my phone doesnt react this test and the values of proximity were null.

in the call settings there is and option to not use proximity sensor
phone icon > menu touch button > call settings >untick turn off screen during call
you can then turn the screen off and on using the power button as per normal use.
help me

Hi.
Bought a S2 a few days ago and flashed 3 roms. (ressurection remix - pacman - jellybam)
In everyone something happens quite annoying.
When I press DIAL to make a call, the screen goes immediatlly off.
Then I'm forced to press the home button or power button to get the screen on again...but as soon as I try to get into the call screen (to use the dial for example), the screen goes off again! The call is still active and I can speak in normal conditions, but I'm unable to get into the call screen!
What may be causing this problem? Is it possible to be a proximity sensor problem?
It's starting to p*ss me off a lot!!!!
Some of those symptoms are the result of the proximity sensor in the device. Read about it in the manual that came with your phone.

I think you missunderstood me... This is not my first S2...or first Android device.
I've had S2, Arc S, S3, etc...
I know how the proximity sensor works...
What is happening is that the sensor turns off the screen regardless of having something near by or not...
Therefore I'm never able to use the dialpad during a call or even see the hang up button...or the duration of each call.

Strange. Maybe the sensor is faulty or it's a software glitch. Did you try to reinstall kernel/ROM?

I would suggest typing *#0*# in the dialer, clicking "sensor" in the menu that comes up and test the proximity sensor. If thats fine, I'd suggest a softeare fault.

Hey guys, I recently replaced my screen and its all working perfectly except for the proximity sensor. I replaced the screen with a white one so I don't know if that's why its acting funky, but no matter what app to test it I use, it never shows any values for the prox sensor. This leads me to believe its always in the 'on' state, so that when I make a call the screen instantly goes black (thinking that my face is up to it) and doesn't come back on until the call ends. I was just wondering if anyone came across how to fix this maybe with a kernel setting or app, just so I don't have to worry about it anymore.
Thanks for anyone's help in advance!!

Well just in case anyone runs into this problem again, here's how to fix it. After I tried to take it apart again and add scotch tape colored with black sharpie, it didn't seem to do anything. So I went and looked for an app that can do it, and I found 'Rezound proximity sensor calibrator' it allows you to set the threshold of how close an object is to the sensor and will tell you if its triggered (near) or not triggered, (far). Just trial and error the settings until it changes state and test the sensor with a phone call!
