Hi guys. I am having a very frustrating time with my s3.
I recently flashed CM 10.1 and all was fine until today when I wiped delvik cache and now my drop down menu is gone.
I cant pull it down nor do i get a preview of notifications when they come in.
Anyone got any ideas?
Thank you

Read somewhere that it would fix my snap chat problem.
What will happen if I factory reset with a non stock ROM. Will it just reinstall factory ROM?

No. It wipes /data which is where your data is. It cannot modify /system which is where your rom is. Besides, that would mean you need 2 roms on your phone at all times if it could restore that.
have a read of "understanding the basics before rooting" thread (in general > Sticky roll-up) for a better understanding of your phone

Many people do just in case since something happens. Just backup everything first!
IMO...

i would. if you don't, you might get stuck in a bootloop. some roms don't require you to (ie...CM updates). but even then, it doesn't hurt to do it after so many CM updates. now, if you don't want to lose your data, i'd recommend using titanium backup...if you haven't already.
Rule of thumb would be as follows:
Wipe Dalvik.
Wipe cache.
Factory/data reset.
Flash ROM.
Wipe Dalvik.
Wipe cache.
Factory data/reset.
This should keep you safe. Only takes an extra minute to do.
Some ROM's will wipe for you, but I always do a manual wipe first anyway.
hey thanks alot guys just wasnt sure but i dnt ever see the wipe dalvik option am i missing something

In CWM select advanced on the main menu and you will see wipe Dalvik there.
Dear community,
I have a SGS2 and i have the PMv2 By foxhound and i noticed some functions werent working properly, like panning while holding screen items and the clock and weather not showing up nor staying in the right place in the lock screen when set in display under settings. Also in kakao talk auto caps or the up button once wont keep caps for first word on.
Ive tried wiping D-Cache and cache but it hasnt helped much. Should i try for a reinstall with CWM?
If so the basics is to wipe both cache - install - reboot - wipe again - reboot and everything should be ok?
Maybe i should reword it.
Should i do a clean wipe (factory wipe right?) clear the cashe and d-cache and reinstall PMv2.0? Will it fix the problems i have? Or is it known issues with the ROM?

I've tried asking but I think there are too many people discussing that it feels like you are being drowned out.
Also there's a new Rom in the thread but its not psychomantis. Is it recommended to update to it?
Thanks for always helping me out jje...

Thanks in advance for taking the time to awnser my few "newbie qeustions!"
before i start, everything on my phone is stock and not rooted.
my first qeustion is, is there any difference, when i use factory reset in the options menu, rather then the one in the stock recovery?..
my second qeustion is, does this wipe dalvik cache?... whenever i see people talking on forums, they are saying to clear dalvik cache or delete it, but does the stock recovery / phone (i never did anything with my phone) wipe it aswell? when factory resetting from the options menu.
p.s Sorry for my bad english.
Factory reset is the same and wipes all Including Dalvik .
But is only relevant when flashing custom roms via rooted phones .
jje
1/no there is no difference
2/i dont think that samsung recovery wipes dalvik cache
thankyou for awnsering, however, when i use the factory reset in the phone's options, the default video and song you get for samsung to showoff is there...
but whenever i factory reset trough the recovery it's not there.....
anyone else noticed this, and does this mean both are different?.. or...
bump

Dont bump you posts..
Both solve the same purpose..the song and video you are talking about is in the /system/media folder and hence will always be there...
Also, what factory reset does is..it wipes all your data including internal sdcard..

Now, i'm wondering, why when i reset in the phone, in the options menu, it shows the default video / song you get with the galaxy s3, the nature video and such... while when i do a factory reset trough the recovery itself, that video/song isnt there...
does this mean they are different factory resets?...
Nobody noticed this?..
I tried CM a while back (WAY back, actually - pre-ICS) for the i717. It wasn't bad but after a while I went back to stock because for me it just 'felt' better. Hard to explain it other than that. In any case, I've been on full stock ever since and was happy with it.
Then Official JB comes out from the carrier and my phone is laggy as all hell and it's gotten to the point of royally pissing me off to the point that I'm considering my options.
My question is this: Do we know the cause of the lag? If so, is it fixable via custom kernel or something similar, or do I need to go to a whole separate ROM to get away from the problem (and are there any in particular that are recommended if that is the case)?

Have you done a factory data reset since the upgrade? That seems to clear up a lot of issues too.

I don't recall, but if I had to venture a guess I'd say probably not. I followed the above thread to the 'slow 4.1.2' and disabled everything I could on that list and did a restart, not sure which one did the trick but now it's nice and speedy.Hoping it stays this quick and isn't just a factor of not a lot built up in memory yet. I'll try a factory reset if it bogs down again.
there could also be some existing apps that continue to run in the background.
you might either go into app manager and force close them and clear their cache individually
OR
maybe reboot phone every day or two. clearing any cache build up. kind of a preventative maintinence thing.
if you ventured new ROM, may I suggest Padawawn.
every phone is a bit different, but I have had the best results ever
4.2.2 ROMs perform better IMO. Good luck

i prefer stock as well and was also experiencing lag until i found the right setup for myphone. started out by debloating. then flashed phasekernel_jb.3 and use setcpu or whatever tuner app you prefer and set governor = fantasy/scheduler = sio/min = 384/max = 1728. all phones are different so you may need to try different settings to find what works for yours. i have not had any lag since.
Here is what worked for me. I had the same issue as you and posted it a while back. This also greatly increased my battery life. I suggest that if you are rooted go ahead and wipe the device - in fact do it twice! You will have to reinstall of you your apps but it got rid of all the lag and almost doubled my battery life.

When you said "wipe", did you mean factory reset or TWRP wipe?
If TWRP, which one you wipe? I tried checking all selection and it wiped even the OS!

You wipe the caches. If you wipe system, it will delete the OS and the data wipe will wipe your data of course.

OK.
I am ready to do the factory reset twice. My Note is rooted and have SuperSU. If I factory reset, wouldn't it remove SuperSU also but NOT TWRP?
If yes, can I just install the SuperSU zip from TWRP? No need to re-root?

You will have full root. I always wipe both caches, system and data when flashing a new ROM, its actually the preferred way.

Wait, I already have stock AT&T JB and rooted. I just want to fix the lag and not installing a new ROM. Do I really need to wipe system and data? Wouldn't that wipe the whole OS?
I did the factory reset and want to wipe both caches... errr.. what's the button combination to boot to TWRP? I use "Quick Boot" before..

It can be done by pressing at the same time Volume up and Power buttons until the display lights up, which is when you have to release Power button, while at the same time you should keep pressing the Volume Up button.
If you wish to keep your current ROM DON'T wipe system.

*System UIDs Inconsistent*
UIDs on the system are inconsistent, you need to wipe your data partition on your device will be unstable.
*I'm Feeling Lucky*
I did wipe data/dactory reset
wipe cache partition
wipe dalvik cache
The earlier rom i come from was ARHD 25.0. Have i done any wrong or do i have to make the steps once again to let go the message?

It happens sometimes. There's no fix but to wipe (again)

I did the wizard today but still get that message The phone is running smooth and everything works. Just ignore the message?
One more thing, the sms tone is not working, the phone only vibrates. It worked on earlier ARHD Rom.
Try another rom is all you can do and read the rom thread see if others have the problem .

Hmm.
It's still there strangely.
I'm going to run a few things in SD Maid and see if that changes anything...
If not, I may look at doing a full wipe and reflashing..
