I would like to have a straight tutorial and stuff,if u're up for helping me just post if no,thats it
Right. So you think you should have your hand held ?
I'm sure one of the many bozos on here who do this regularly for people; as opposed to helping people help themselves by saying 'Go here, read this, learn, do' which might mean the difference between busting their phone & not (people who have 'steps' regurgitated for them to follow without learning the 'how why etc' tend to break their phones if experience on here is any guide) will be along any minute to hold it for you & shake it when you're done.

Reason for this thread : I am simply bored with people asking simple and silly questions.
This is a complete Android guide.
All inputs from other members are welcome.
Before and for all to read forum rules:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/announcement.php?f=263#td_post_81
1. What is Android?
Android is an an open-source operating system developed by Google.
2. What is touchwiz?
Touchwiz is a modified version of Android developed by Samsung. In simple words, its a layer of customisation on top of the Android operating system.
3. What is Cyanogenmod?
Cyanogenmod is another customized Android. It is compiled from the source. It supports over a 30 devices and has started supporting the ace just recently.
For more info go here : www.cyanogenmod.com
4. What is MIUI?
MIUI is another customized version of Android with Cyanogenmod as its base. Its well known for its looks.
For more info go here : www.miuiandroid.com
Now lets go a little deep.
What is a ROM?
ROM is a customized operating system made by the users and for the users.
It can and may contain anything and everything from tweaks to looks. Each EOM serves a different purpose.
Once you flash a ROM, your warranty isvoid.
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS THE *BEST* ROM OR *BEST* TWEAKS
Everything is best in its own way. It just depends on the users preference.
SO DON'T ASK SUCH QUESTIONS. Period.
If you want battery life, go for a stock ROM. If you want features, go for Cyanogenmod.
What is odin multi downloader?
Odin multi downloader is a software (windows) used to flash the stock Samsung roms and regain the warranty.
ETA'S
Stop asking when will this be released or when will that be released. IT WILL COME OUT WHEN IT'S READY this is the main reason why great developers like Jusada and Nims11 left XDA so please if you don't want more great devs to leave STOP IT
Development Threads
These are the threads marked as [DEVS] or [DEVS ONLY].
Leave these threads alone. Don't comment unnecessary trash and ask for ETA's.
Respect
RESPECT THE DEVELOPERS
Don't go to their thread and say "this rom is useless because it doesn't have (something like this or that) or you don't like it* SERIOUSLY this problem is one of the mains on the galaxy ace forum. Please respect them making roms. It isn't as easy as learning ABC or 123!
They do it in their free time and without any charge. So if you want to use their work use it peacefully or keep your mouth shut.
Search
Read or search before posting anything! The SEARCH BUTTON is your best friend!
If you can't find it on xda search on Google. Still can't find it then ask.
Stop Spamming
Stop posting and reposting the same stuff over and over and over again! If it says in the ROM description that ""This" is not working" Dont keep on asking is "this" working? or something like that.
Please avoid questions like "how is the battery life, Is the ROM stable " etc. Usage differs with every person and so does the battery life.
Sections
Post in the proper section. You will get more help if you do this.
For example... don't start a question thread in developers forum just because you think it's more active than general section. EVERYTHING HAS IT'S PURPOSE
Miscellaneous
1. If you think that "why are these developers making *Other OS here* for android? "
Well some of us want to have something a little different. Of course it's android and it will remain as android but don't you want to break the limitations of it? well I do.
2. I'm sorry but this is really irritating me.
For the stupid b****es out there rating 1 star on an excellent ROM just because your language is not supported well d**n you. Stop it for god's sake making a ROM is hard and you rate them trash? sheesh
3. STOP BEING SO DEMANDING
some newbies nowadays keep on doing this like "hey I want this do It for me" at least say kindly or please. Be nice being too demanding will stress our devs and sometimes that's the reason they pause their ROMS.. now you don't like that do you?
Important :
ROM MANAGER BRICKS THE ACE
For heavens sake don't start flame wars in threads.
If you manage to brick your phone even after following all the steps perfectly, then there is a guide on "how to unbrick your ace ". Search for it.
The battery will get warm upto 45° C. Its normal. Don't start new threads for it.
Hope this helps.
No offense to anyone.
Thanks to DooAce. I used some part from his post.

Hi Folks,
I want to root my S2which is currently on GB 2.3.6 with following specs:
Model : GT91000G
PDA:I9100GXWLC2
CSC:I9100GODDKL1
Phone:I9100GDDKL1
Android Version: 2.3.6
Baseband Version:I9100GDDKL1
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7 [email protected]#2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.XWLC2
I wanted to root without much flashing and here is what I was thinking.
1). Get the insecure Kernel and flash it.
2). Get install SU with help of Galaxy2root.zip application
3), Once rooted flash it with original Kernel.
Now my Question is: For my phone specs:
1). Where I can find Secure Kernel and insecure kernel? Links and name of kernel is preferred..
2). if I flash insecure and then flash secure kernel, will the binary counter increases?
Any other preferred method for rooting ensuring stock ROM is same?
thanks
SAM
Read the stickies. The only particularly important detail is that you have an I9100G. The rules tell you to search before posting, do you really think in the year the phone has been out, no-one thought to ask how to root?

Hey man..given that its a forum..people can ask questions. Lot of time even after reading on forum you may still not figure out whats right for you..so chill.
Help me with the answer...
He did help you with the answer. All the info you're after has been asked for on here hundreds of times before (and answered). If you can't find what you're looking for with XDA search, do a Google search and append XDA to your search terms (do you know how many results I just got with "root I9100G XDA" ?).

Hey boss..Same line of argument..Did u even read my questions..I am not able to find kernel both secure and insecure .. just want to know what kernel I can use..If I am mentioning this it does shows that I have gone through material on net etc.
Help and move on..
Answers for such basic questions are almost always in Development sections (sticky threads, guides and so on). So I strongly recommend you visit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1585413 , these users will be definitely more likely to help you. General section is occupied mostly by i9100's users, and sorry but we have no idea about i9100G.
One word. Bull****. I.E - I don't believe you. I absolutely do not believe that I can type those search terms into Google, get all those results, yet you somehow can't.
I know what the issue is here. You can't be bothered reading. You want the information spoonfed to you. We don't do that here. People here are encouraged to read & learn. If you were asking a question that was complex/difficult, I'd be more than happy to oblige you. You're asking basics. Answers to basics are easily found with only a minimum of effort on your part.
That you can't be bothered even expending that minimal effort says a lot. It tells me you'll probably try and take shortcuts when you do work out how to root your phone, and experience on here generally indicates people who do that end up with borked phones.
I am moving on. And I certainly won't be offering any help should you end up borking your phone.
Also, you didn't say please in your OP, which shows me you also lack manners. In fact, your entire OP has this "I want, I demand, give me" smell to it.
You might want to take a step back & reflect for a moment that it might well be (actually, this is certain) that you are the issue here, and not the two people who have replied to your OP thus far.

thank.. I will search..Only reason I am posting here is that I cant post it on Development. Seems Tough to get Original Kernal and insecure. one.. THanks a anyways.
Hey Man,
It may possible that you are subject matter expert and that why you might be senior member. But it doesn't give you liberty to write like this. fact that I am posting shows that I was requesting.
After searching possibly everywhere, I am just asking which kernel etc..it is humanly impossible to all the entries on forum. Doing google only I came to knw the solution I wanted to pursue.
Any ways..I am rest assured that I will never lose my phone by flashing incorrectly.. It will be not because of you but many of other member who are willing to share there expertise without make so much of noise.
No Personal Feeling man..

Thread moved to Q&A section.
OP, you are more likely to get help with questions in the Q&A section. Please read your posts carefully before starting a new thread to make sure you put it in the correct section. This keeps our forums clean and gives you the best chance to get the help you need.
While there is a TON of information out there on rooting, kernels, ROMs, etc, you really will learn a lot by just spending some time searching and reading over information, Google is your friend for general knowledge on these items, and XDA will help with your device specific needs. I'm sure the nice people here will offer you some more advice on the phone you have, in the meantime, start reading and learning, it really can be fun and satisfying Good luck to you!
can any 1 help me or not ??
have you read what diestarbucks suggested you? read, read, read
1)about root- it's sticky thread in general section. how you missed it? didn't read..
2)google for app2sd, super app2sd, link2sd..
3) about your last few questions, that you will need to find out yourself. there are plenty threads around XDA and on google, which explains what is what.
Forum is big, yes, so there is no need for creating threads for each and every question, and making it even bigger. Some questions can easily be found by simple search, or by looking(not sure how hard is it to spot sticky thread..)

You wont learn if you have that kind of arrogance brother. Try asking alittle more nicely. Im sure people here wouldnt mind helping you if u do approach nicely. Search on google and links will be provided to you for each specific info or tutorial you need.
Helo everybody, i have installed samsung galaxy 2 i9100 rom on samsung galaxy 2 1777.
Most of the keys are not working. so plssssssss i need help here. Thank u
OK, first off, thread titles should be indicative of what your problem is so that they have some relevance when doing a search. Secondly, this is a common problem whose solution can be found by looking at the stickies and doing a search, two things that are expected of members BEFORE making a post.
Flash AJ's Siyah kernel. It'll fix your key layouts. And in the future, please follow the advice of the above poster and use more relevant thread titles.
As Miami says, everything you need is contained in the stickies. However, for someone new, wading through the info may be a little confusing at first, so here's a little guidance. First you will need to flash back to I777 stock. Then if you want to install custom firmware, you can proceed from there.
I would also suggest you use this forum as the most trusted source. Read and study the stickies, also the links in my sig, until you have a good grasp of what you are doing. Then if you have questions, feel free to ask. But you should post them in the Q&A section, not General.
Ok, so I guess that is that then. Nothing for me to do here.
@OP, see the above. You have a Senior and 2 RCs that are guiding you in your ways. But no one can do this stuff for you. I know that Panic Mode has set in and that is fine, but make sure that you Read, Search and Read again before flashing anything.
Edit: Woops!!! Forgot ---> Moved to Q&A

1) the brick bug is only there on stock 4.0.4 firmware kernel for u so on JB ur safe for now
2) u can root ur phone without installing a custom firmware for sure
3) of course rooting will always have an elemantary risk for sure, but u have to see to it that, why do i require a root in the first place
No (Ask a ridiculous question, get a ridiculous answer).
You really need to learn 'the basics' before you do anything to your phone or you will break it. Read the threads stickied at the top of Q&A, and also read the threads linked in the Stickies thread third post from the top in General.
The questions you've asked have been asked/answered here thousands of times over the past two years, and the answers are in those threads. If anyone serves you up simple answers without you understanding what you're doing, you're going to end up with an expensive plastic paperweight like countless people before you.
Thanks for your answers.
