[Q] none of you guys have Greenify??? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

my Motorola Atrix 4G is rooted and I was trying to install Greenify through Google Store, but it doesn't seem to work. it says "your device isn't compatible with this version."
I have also tried downloading APK from internet to install it, but it failed.
is it just my device? or none of you with rooted Motorola Atrix 4G have Greenify??

this is probably because the atrix is officially a gingerbread device. im not sure but I think greenify is only for ice cream sandwich and up. even if you are running a custom rom the playstore wont know, one possible solution is to use the xposed framework. you can install the xposed installer . its not on play store . google it. than find a module that will prevent the play store from not letting you install it. all of these mods are risky so make sure you have a good backup if things get screwed up

@ykim27,
If you are incapable of searching and/or reading, you should at least be able to mention the ROM version and variant you have installed.
Just FYI, Greenify does not support GB or older. There is a detailed thread about it here on XDA, which you would also know if you bothered to search some.
@ashraf sharif, as far as I know, Xposed requires Android 4.0+ as well.

sure but xposed installer is not on the playstore and if using a custom rom an atrix can easily run jellybean so it would be compatible with xposed
@ravilov

Greenify works with roms from ics and above,I have it in every rom I try as the replacer of the blur-gb task manager.
Playstore gets his info about compatibility from the build.prop so there is no issue with the fact that officially we have GB

@op
Unless you get an ICS ROM, just use TiBu and freeze.
Just be careful what you freeze...

I have both installed...
On ICS and JB.
Both doesn't support gb, as stated in each app's thread

Greenify is the stupidest app i've ever seen (apart from so called AntiVirus apps and task killers)! Why would you buy an expensive smartphone, just to turn off any smart features?! Isn't that paradox?

Because the not-so smart apps behavior.

Excactly, when your phone has 80apps or more, its important that you can control their behavior so that you can have the optimum battery duration. Of course you dont hibernate your Facebook or your email client or whatsapp or viber, but there are much more apps that dont need to run in background

[Q] Rom Manager/Gapps

I am excited about Rom Manager support for the Atrix.
Has anybody flashed GAPPS for Gingerbread using Rom Manager yet?
I am mostly afraid that if I flash them, the MotoBlur replacement apps for them will break stuff pretty bad.
I am running CherryBlur currently.
I'm thinking about giving it a try later on today, but before I journey into the abyss, I figured I'd ask.
I'd really like to have google talk video, the stock dialer, the stock contacts app, etc.
Anybody?
I think gapps are only for asop, I may be wrong though

I was wondering the same thing. If its incompatible shouldn't it NOT be available to download? I mean there is nothing else listed there other than ninja rom and QuickROM but im sure if you were on another device more would be showing. It looks like its device specific.

This is what happens if you don't use a custom ROM .

Slow with opening apps? Or slow user interface? It shouldn't be slow unless he has tonnes of apps.

Do not make him buy a new phone, this phone can be hella snappy actually!
Start by rooting your phone, you can easily find a tutorial just by searching the forum or via google.
My personal preference:
ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1263292
Tweak: V6 SuperCharger Update 9 Beta 6.2.2 (tutorial here)
When installing the tweak, chose option 7 (agressive for 512HP)
APPS: Autostart (find it in market)), preventing useless apps to start, but you must have chose the apps manually.
Auto Memory Manager(find it in market), chose agressive and save the changes.
If he is new at these sort of stuff it could take some time to get it right but it's totally worth spending a day fixing it, he'll get a fast a snappy phone in long term.
Has he tried using the task manager to clear memory? It sounds like he downloaded an application that doesn't behave the way it should (memory/cpu hog). If clearing memory helps he has to find and uninstall the misbehaving app(s), i think there's an app called watchdog or something which monitors memory and cpu usage of all installed apps.
If that doesn't help, go i'd go for a reset. And before buying a new phone, give the custom roms a go because they do tend to increase performance quite a bit!
Thankyou for the quick replies everyone very helpful, he gets force closes on twitter and facebook all the time and also it just randomly shuts down aswell.

Factory reset needed. And you could help him get a custom kernel.

hi! regarding the suggested tweak? is there a detailed summary on how to use and instal this type of tweak? ive been reading the post and it seems it only has the overview.. thanks!
my advice is just forget all those mumbo jumbo tweak script. its already incorporated in cfroot kernel. its also doesnt make sense. all it does is doing the same thing. tweak vm dirty, tweak minfree, tweak stagefright and so on with the only difference is the fancy mancy name to make it looks yummy. people just install 2-3 script with different name when all it does is the same, and u actually already done it when using cfroot.
You might also want to avoid CM because it's unstable, just flash a stable custom rom that's still in active development. Make sure to get the latest cfroot kernel version.

They have, but UK operators are notoriously slow with pushing their own, branded versions. Especially on a midrange phone like the Ace. Avoid CM, especially Grif's as that has quite a few bugs. Some bugs in Cyanoace but not as many from my experience.
For starters, root your phone (or get a custom rom with integrated custom root), than download Titanium Backup from Market, and then uninstall all the unnecessary apps, also, delete app and internet cache. That all should make your phone better than new
I would agree about using cfroot.
Root phone with cfroot, titaniumbackup pro backup to sdcard, factory reset, download mode and flash latest stock rom from sammobile.com, root again and then restore apps only, only restore app+data for games.

Android Market Installed Apps History

Hi
Hopefully I'm posting this in the right place. I don't think this is an issue specific to my phone model.
I have this really annoying issue. When I go into the Android Market (or Play Store) and I look at my apps it previously showed purchased apps but now it shows all the apps I've ever installed. If I want to install an app I purchased previously I have to search through all the hundreds of apps I have ever installed!
I've tried to find a resolution via Google but I keep getting results showing how to clear market search history.
Does anyone know what I'm referring to and know how to fix this? Like I said, previously before I upgraded to ICS the market only showed installed apps and purchased apps that I haven't installed, now it shows every app I have ever installed and it seems to include apps I installed on my android tablet!
Thanks
Lee

Welcome to the new play store. This is intentional and functions the same as the iOS app store.

Hi
Thanks for the reply. Its an annoying idea. We should at least have the option to turn it off. If I try an app and don't like it I uninstall it, why would I want to constantly see an app that I don't want! Haha.
I like Android because, among other things, it isn't iOS.
Thanks
Lee

Google search .apk

Hello, I was wondering if anyone can provide a Google search apk. I do not like the search that is installed in all the new ROMs that first takes you to Google results then after you pick a result it takes you to browser I want a version that bypass that and takes me directly to Google results but in my browser. If anyone has an older version can you please share? I have found several searching online but the resolution on the widget is horrible. Thank you. So I'm assuming the one that I don't like is w. Google now I want an old version.

I think you've got to flash ics gapps as its jb, I don't like it either so if someone can help?
THISIS50.COM IF IT'S HOT IT'S HERE
Yeah im sure its something that is still being worked on but sucks that its included in all roms. Replacing app with google searck apk works but I think because of the difference in android 2.3 and 4.0 the search Icon looks all weird no matter which version you install but it dies replace google now

I sorted it with an apk from another rom everything works fine I would up but not able to.
THISIS50.COM IF ITS HOT ITS HERE
Removed. Sorry posted in wrong thread.
ROMs with Aroma installer give you the option to install it or not check it out... I just installed Team genesis Sense 4.1
And during instalation I didn't check the option and it installed the normal google search

If it is still of interest, there is an alternative available in play store: QuickSearch of Ozmium.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.ozmium.QuickSearch
Besides providing a widget, it's an app as well, doing what you described: opening the search results in browser.
Cheers

Bloatware with custom rom?

Hey guys,
I am soon going to enter the rooted world of android and flashing roms on my note. Is there still a reason to remove bloatware from the phone when running a custom rom? Will the bloatware apps still be running or will they merely just be taking up memory in the storage?

The answer largely depends on which rom you choose..
Most custom roms are relatively bloat free, unless you are wanting to use a rooted stock variant build ...
And with regard to running bloat, the answer is yes ...
Apps like Google maps, navigation apps etc. Will often run in the background as available services, even when closed.
But you can use titanium backup and other similar apps, to "freeze " these applications....g
Edit : I always remove my bloat .....even from stock builds ....by freezing a suspected app for testing....
Then if all is well and stable ....I dump it ....g
Takes up space
possibly running in the background
things you may never use anyway
can add as you want after the custom rom
They fixed the battery drain issue with Google maps...don't worry about any Google services.
