I have flashed a rooted stock tom in Samsung galaxy s3 mini and now I can't connect my phone with kids. I wanted to ask the benefits of kies and how I can use it again.
Thanks in advance.
Anyone answer
kies is samsung's own proprietary software to be used for backing up your data,, contacts etc.. And to upgrade your firmware whenever Samsung releases newer version of Android...

Kies before connecting whether the device status is genuine or not. Since you have already rooted and installed custom ROM , kies will not recognize your device.
Kies makes it easy to transfer / backup your media files, contacts, e.t.c.
You need to install official firmware for your device in case you want it to be recognized via Kies. You can refer sammobile.com for more details.

I don't have a custom rom I have the stock one rooted. But I read that I can use kies only if I have a rom from my country. Where can I find this rom? If I root this rom by flashing superSU will kies be available?
Thanks.

After Rooting Kies will not recognize your device. You can find the firmware for your country from sammobile.com and it will be genuine samsung firmware.:victory:

Thank you. I will try this out I hope it works.

Hello, just to preface this- im not very technical, but i can follow instructions well.
Anyway, You guys were great to help me two months ago in rooting my phone. I ended up doing it through Odin and all went great. Got all the **** off my phone which was the main aim. I didn't put any custom roms on there as im a bit useless when it comes to this stuff and i felt i'd be pushing my luck after the rooting went so well.
Yesterday i used Kies and it asked me to upgrade the firmware as there was a new version available.
1. What should i do? Will upgrading through Kies reverse the rooting procedure or break my phone?
2. Should i get the newer update from this site? If so- is there any tutorial for updating the firmware after already rooting the phone through odin (chainfires method i think it was?
Thank you in advance for any advice all.
My phone details are ;
ANdroid 2.3.3
Baseband version I9100XXKE7
Kernel version; 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKF3-CL276555
[email protected] #2
Build number; GINGERBREAD.XWKF3
I have used kies to update firm ware after rooting and it did not UN root my phone so you should be fine. It did however install more useless apps that I had to remove.

i would update via kies then go to chainfires post and pick root and cwm to match your new firmwares kernel .
That way you wont have to learn how to flash stock firmwares etc .,

What JJ said is to flash via Kies and then flash the CF-Root kernel from Chainfire to get root and CWM in the phone.
Hi Azeurius,
the thing is that i already have root and cwm on the phone. Ive already rooted.
So im at the point where i can upgrade the firmware through kies, but im looking for advice what i should do overall- nearing in mind the fact ive already rooted, and phone details are in Openingpost.
THanks!
Ok well I am also new here but from everything I have read my understanding is that you have rooted your device and loaded the original Kernel for your current firmware. If you upgrade through Kies then you will obviously have an upgraded firmware with the old kernel (from your 1st rooting).
So when you upgrade your firmware you just have to also upgrade your Kernel through odin so your phone will still be properly rooted.
I stand to be corrected. I only started reading about rooting today as I just got my Galaxy s2 having come from a Blackberry so new to Android but loving it!!! Best os ever!
I think I will root my phone but not going to touch the firmware as ICS should be release on Kies soon cant wait

Any stock upgrade removes root .

Correct
One big problem with Kies is that if you change firmware its possible that you lose the Kies upgrade path as phone codes no longer match .

Hello guys. Im relatively new to XDA. So I might sound stupid. My question is, as jje mentioned above "One big problem with Kies is that if you change firmware its possible that you lose the Kies upgrade path as phone codes no longer match" am i correct in saying that if I update my Galaxy s II (rooted + cwm recovery no custom rom) via kies, then I could run into problems? Also one more question. If I do update via kies, will it remove root and cwm recovery?? Thanks guys. .

Use Odin
I think KIES forbides to upgrade on rooted firmware. Even if it allows you i think you will use your root. I suggest you if you want the latest stock rooted firmware use Odin find the stock rooted XWLSD(Nordic countries) and flash via Odin (Don't use XWLS8 it has bugs), XWLSD is super stable or XXMS1(Poland) or XWLSE(Russia) if you are not from this countries then use XWLSD. If you want custom rom with no mods and no bloatwares use Neat rom or Wanam lite rom, if you want custom rom with mods and no bloatwares use disaster, biftor, omega, alliance rom and etc.
Yeah. I dont mind losing root access. As log as I can get official ota. Btw has the exynos bug been addressed?

Thanks. I will be try updating my rooted i9500 and P600 via Kies. I am not sure if there is already an update for my region available for the S4 but I was prompted to update my P600 only to get a notification telling me that my device has been modified. This was for OTA updating. I really hope it works because I am really not looking forward to un-rooting these devices just for the updates since downloading the stock ROM takes forever. Will post results after trying just in case anyone is interested.
hi,
why kies doesn't work with lite'ning rom 2.5 in my GS2
thanks
Guess why?
Are you on an official samsung firmware?
Are you with an official kernel from samsung?
Are you unroot?
Are your smartphone stock?
Why your kies does not work? why?
Kies is meant and written to work with samsung phones WITH SAMSUNG FIRMWARES, so if you have done anything with your phone kies probably will not recognize your phone as a samsung phone.
Only for curiosity, why do you need kies?
hi
i wrote "lite'ning 2.5" it mean i have a custom rom, and i want kies to synchronise my contacts

Does not recognize non genuine rom is one reason .
jje
Whatever custom Samsung rom you are on, lies should recognize your device .
1. Check proper drivers are installed via device manager in PC.
2. Check if you have enabled USB debugging in your mobile.
3. Reinstall kies completely

Your contacts should sync with your Google account anyways.
Kies is meant to work with official Samsung firmwares. Which Lite'ning is not.
I find Kies a pretty bad program anyways. Unreliable at best. I haven't used it since about 2 weeks after I got my phone, which was about 8 months ago.
Sorry, but i could use kies with custom rom even lite'ning

Well, then you'll need to provide more detail than just "Kies doesn't work with my ROM, but it used to". That doesn't tell anybody anything, or WHY it possibly doesn't work.
What happens when you try to use Kies? Does your computer still recognize the phone when you plug it in? Etc. Just saying something doesn't work, doesn't help anyone help you.
i'm now on Lite'ning 2.5 and the kies works perfect !
try to reflash your rom again

I reflash my phone 3 times, the problem persists, kies workwith wifi but not with the USB cable, the error message is: impossible to start the service on the device, another problem: the remote control does not work, it crashes the phone and you can not add an account samsung ... and thank you all
Try Kies Wifi. I managed to get Kies syncing with LR 2.5 after some error. Its a bit problematic though.
I think thé 2.6 will resolve the problèm.

Download the 4.1.2 firmware (if it is released for your region) from Sammobile.com and flash through ODIN. You'll have to re-root again, though.
Cheers!

Download 4.1.2 firmware from any link. Install Mobile Odin. Flash using Mobile Odin and check the Everroot checkbox. Once done you will have all updates and root intalled on your device.

contacts and Apps normally not. (Only you factory reset the phone, then apps will be erased) Flashing so many firmwares but never erasing contacts.
hi, to be fear i had the same problem and all i had to do was to update the firmware using the Samsung kies...once you connect the phone to your computer, will have to open the Samsung kies and the program will automatically ask you if you want to update your firmware; and if you don't know how to get the Samsung kies you will have to go on the samsung website and check in the download section. I hope that I have been enough helpful to you and to anyone else that had or have the same problem  .

nope: it is recognized by kies (for which the device is up to date in my country). the firmware is ok, I flashed it already on another s3. the message is "cannot open serial port"
EDIT : sorry folks, I just forgot kies running; that's why the serial port was not available for flashing. now everything's fine

It would appear that you haven't installed the CyanogenMod yourself. Please do some reading & research before attempting to flash anything, stock or modded, otherwise you'll end up with an expensive paperweight.
Specifically, here, you shouldn't be using Kies at all in your flashing. In fact, it is recommended to kill all Kies processes as they can interfere with the flashing process.
You need to get the phone into download mode, and flash the ROM with Odin, assuming the ROM is Odin flashable.
There is a guide in general forum on how to return to stock using Odin.
Thanks for your reply...I read some information regarding this.....As per my understanding to use odin mobile should be connected to PC via Samsung Kies..but in my case cynogen is not supported kies.SO how can I proceed?
