[Q] How to import SMS from ICS to Jelly Bean - Micromax A116

I have sms backup xml format file from ICS android phone, now I have Jelly Bean 4.2.1 phone. I would like to import those messages in it. But JB phone only support CSV format file to import (restore).
I have also tried several SMS backup & Restore softwares in the phone to import those SMS, but failed.
I have also tried to convert xml file format to CSV file format on my pc. It also failed to import.
What should I do get back those SMS.
My phone is similar to the Micrmax A-116

How to get my imported text back in 2.1

Hi, i exported text in 1.6 to my SD card before i upgrade. is there a way to import the text back into 2.1 or just have it on my computer so i can read it later? Thanks
I assume you mean SMS/MMS when you say text, I have not found a way to import my old SMS's from 1.6 to 2.1.
They seem to have removed the import function for messages..
Sorry.
that sucks!.. can I flash it back to 1.6 and import sms back and then do a whole backup of the entire phone? and then flash it back to 2.1 and restore fone? would the text be restored?
That should do it, yes.
in the 1.6 version did you have the backup/restore app (it arrived on mine in one of the 1.6 incremental upgrades).
If you do then that can back up your texts and you can reimport using the 2.1 version of the backup/restore app (at least thats how I did it).
(Just make sure you don't restore backed up system settings from 1.6!)
thanks!.. awesome have something to work around this
Backup using the FREE "SMS Backup & Restore" app by Ritesh Sahu in the Market. It exports into XML format onto the SD card.
Then upgrade to 2.1, install "SMS Backup & Restore" and restore your SMS.

[Solved] Whatsapp message history gone after re-install; still in nandroid backup?

Hiya!
I flashed my unlocked Neo V with a fresh stock ROM, fastboot-flashed a modified kernel with native root and CWM and finally installed Spacious, Smooth and Light ICS custom ROM via CWM.
I read that whatsapp is supposed to save conversation data on the SD card, so I thought it should still be there after re-install. Alas, whatsapp did not ask me whether it should import conversations and did not do so automatically either. I then checked the whatsapp-folder on the SD card and it contained pictures I received via WA, which tells me that the data seems to have been there at some point. I fear that the conversation database may have been overwritten during re-install of the app.
Now I do have a nandroid backup. However, I guess it does not contain the data from SD card. Does WA save its conversation database at some other place as well? Would it make sense to re-install the nandroid backup to extract the WA database and copy it to the new system?
Any hints are welcome.
Cheers,
Ben
I tried it and can tell you now: Yes, your WA conversations should be restored with your nandroid backup. You can then create a database backup manually and use it on your new system to import the conversations.

[Q] SMS -- Missing the Plus sign

I flashed xwlpg ROM. Previosuly was on xwlpx rom and did a backup of the SMS by using moborobo.
Now after flashing the rom when i try restore the SMS, its truncating the + symbol, so no names are displayed :
for ex if my contact ABC has +911234512345, in the SMS its showiing up as 911234512345. as it is a different number the name is not displayed.
have tried to export it to excel then added the + symbol and then imported back to the phone but still the same.
in moborobo have tried to export it as xml tried not working.
Tried importing the xml file using sms backup app but even though the xml file is there it does not show up in restore.
how can i import all my SMS's with + symbol prefix?
Thank you.

[Q] data.ext4.dup seems mixed (messed) up

Hi everyone,
I recently dropped my Galaxy S3 and the Gorilla glas cracked. So I made a nandroid backup before sending it in to Samsung contractor to get it fixed. After I got it back (they couldn't replace the gorilla glas, they needed to replace the complete display) I tried to restore my nandroid backup. Everything seemed fine, reboot, then another reboot and I was back in recovery.
I then flashed back stock firmware (which caused some trouble so kies could update the phone but ended up fine). I then tried to use Titanium Backup Pro, Nandroid Explorer and AppExtractor 2.0 to get back my SMS and WhatsApp history but it failed.
Then I took a look at data.ext4.dup and it seemed to me as an index for what to restore from the blobs folder. So I searched for the mmssms.db file, found the entry and opened up the file in notepad++. It was an html file which seemed to me to be something from the Chrome cache. Next I used notepad++ to search over the whole blobs folder for some string from some SMS which I found in a file, that was supposed to be of the Chrome cache.
My conclusion is, that my data.ext4.dup file is mixed (messed) up. Was there a bug in CWM Touch Recovery and is there a way to fix this so I can restore my nandroid backup or at least get back my SMS and WhatsApp history? And is there a program to export / import / merge WhatsApp history?

Click to collapse
this is why i never use the new CWM, I hate the Blobs way... if i wanna save my backup to my pc forget it SO many files to transfer takes forever. I am a fan of cwm chainfire which is 6 files. and its a complete CLONEDroid and app extractor works perfect with it
