[Q] Device firmware. - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When i go to kies and try to update my i9300, they say my device's current firmware version is not supported to update firmware via Kies. It is PDA:MF6 / Phone:MB1 / CSC:MF3 (KOR). I flashed my own country's firmware (singapore starhub) downloaded from sammobile but the firmware still stays the same. I tried OTA also but it says my software is modified. How do i change this firmware to my own country's one?

Have you rooted or modded your phone in any way? Modified status means it isn't as it left the factory. If you have then OTA won't work and probably kies (although I can't say for certain as I always use odin).
Go read the stickies in the general forum, before you do anything else, as you seem unaware of some crucial facts.

My phone is rooted. But it used to work on kies . Is it maybe because my firmware is KOR which I think stands for Korea but I'm not from there? That's why it doesn't work?

The update will be for KOR not where you are .
You do not have your original firmware product codes csc etc do not match .
Suggest you update by using sammobile.com stock firmware flashed via odin.

I tried csc changer already but if I use that way all my data will be gone and I have to reinstall everything. Even if I restore backup through Cwm recovery the csc code changes back. Is this the only way or is there another way without having to wipe my data

A little debranding trouble with the CSC

I was going to tag this on to the debranding how-to thread but the forum won't let me post there..
..after downloading the stock samsung KE7 firmware I entered the code to bring up the CSC menu.
It says O2U in the white box at the top of the screen but below is a single blank option - it doesn't say XEU anywhere.
What difference does it make? Is it just that I won't be able to update in future using KIES?
CSC nothing to do with updates via Kies .
Kies will update the O2 firmware but may not update flashed firmware as the codes may not match on the server .
See the CSC thread if you want to flash an XEU CSC but that may wipe your phone . If the phone works dont bother as CSC is not relevant .

Thanks for the reply
Yes the phone works. Except that when Kies connects it does not tell me the current firmware or whether it is the latest or not.
I have downloaded what I believe to be samsung stock firmware so I would have though Kies wouldn't have a problem recognizing it.
In nearly two years i have never got Kies to update stock firmware .
Original firmware yes stock never though some claim it does .
LuffarJoh would not need all that hard work if it was true .

Thanks for the links... interesting reading..
I've just run check fus downloader and it's found the firmware from O2 is KE2.. correct.. so if I download that firmware file I can flash my phone back to stock using odin?
And conversely if I ask it to find the latest firmware for the stock european region I can flash that to my phone too (it is KE7 so I think that is what I have done already)

Yes probably
Most networks have upgraded no further than KE2 probably waiting for 2.3.4 release .

CSC are posted .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1674286
Otherwise you need the extract cache tool posted .
But all you will end up with is non flashable files.
Sammobile may have seperate CSC .
Root explorer and extract the CSC folder and CSC files from the phone system .

I would like to have the correct CSC according to the fw I am using. The mobile came with CSC TEN which is Telenor. This fw is always late when it comes to updates becauce of some special apps they are adding in. So now I have the NEE firmware, but TEN CSC.. so how do I change the CSC?
CSC change in link given.
Sorry I know nothing about official firmware . I use XDA forum. Possible a Samsung forum may have more information for you .

CSC changer shows only TEN CSC, not NEE... Obviously not a multi CSC thing in this fw..
Ten csc is carrier specific, so it probably just means you will get carrier bloat with it, if that is case then just use your regional csc unless you really want that bloat! And remember changing csc factory reset phone and I think it wipes internal sd too

That is exactly what I want, but how do I manage to get my regional (NEE) CSC into the S3? CDC changer does not work (Sees only TEN CSC) and when I flashed the pda with odin (should contain NEE CSC) I still have TEN CSC...
Basically you want to debrand your phone so you may as well just flash your required Rom from here

[Stock Official Firmwares] I9300XXBLG8 (4.0.4) - United Kingdom (BTU) [27-07-12]
Ps. It shows uk as that is latest, but all firmware listed, then you just update with Odin whenever you want

canyone point me to csc files?

ive tried flash multiple stock roms but my csc stays as unknown I want it to be able to use ota and kies thank you
Basics
CSC links for some are posted otherwise rip it out of a relevant stock rom .
Or try sammobile.com for separate CSC file .

I also had an unknown CSC when I flash my s3 to different region jellybean. What others told me was that I had a bad flashed and to fix unknown CSC, just reflash the official firmware again via Odin. It worked for me. No more unknown CSC. HTH

How can I do that?
Read the basics before you flash any rom or mod .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1927113
Your IMEI should match under the battery if you have wrong then restore your backed up EFS folder . If you failed then its a samsung job .
If you did not flash firmware for your region then the modem and or CSC may not be compatible .
Suggest you restore your original saved firmware .

[Q] Change country

Hello.
I bought a i9300 from france (orange). It came with a 4.1.2 firmware with CSC code CYO (cyprus). Whenever I try to update from KIES, it shows me an error: "your device doesn't support updates through KIES"
I want to know a way to change firmware, CSC, etc and make my phone become 100% compatible with KIES. I live in brazil and this is my mom's phone. Using KIES to update will be a lot easier in the future. She will be able to do it by herself.
Can you guys help me out? I'm downloading this firmware (CSC code ZTO - brazil, unbranded): http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=6020
Thanks in advance
Flash the firmware using odin and following the guide in sticky threads. Factory reset from recovery, after you flash. CSC should then match the download.

Thanks. I've installed the new firmware (ZTO code), but although my cellphone displays ZTO csc (accessing *#272*IMEI#), KIES still shows CYO csc.
From KIES -> PDA:LG2 / PHONE:LG2 / CSC:LG2 (CYO)
What should I do?
Sorry, I don't use kies so can't help.
Likewise never use Kies .
Try reading the millions of identical Kies posts .
CSC Changer ???

The thing is: I've already changed the CSC to ZTO, but KIES still displays it as CYO.
