No, not that one... I know where the 'Personal Dictionary' under Settings, Language & Keyboard, HTC Sense Settings, but that's not where my problem lies.
I have a stock HTC One from AT&T. No custom ROMs or anything like that. I have a bunch of apps installed, but nothing that relates to keyboards or input.
The issue I have is that in the past month or two my phone has started correcting 'mn' to 'mm'. Living in Minnesota, I type 'mn' a lot. It also corrects a variety of other words by adding a period '.' after them. It obviously learned this somehow through something I inadvertently did. But these correction mappings are not found in the 'Personal Dictionary' section. In fact, I've deleted all entries in Personal Dictionary and it didn't change things. I also went into app settings for HTC Sense Input and cleared the cache (or was it 'data'?). No change. This issue happens in any text entry field, from Contacts to SMS to Notes, to whatever.
I've opened a support case with HTC but they haven't been helpful. Tried a few troubleshooting ideas, such as testing in Safe Mode (still happens), but otherwise no results. At this point they are trying to get me to turn off Word Prediction, but that's not really the root of the mapping issue.
There has to be a database somewhere that maps these auto-correct words. Anyone know how to find & edit it?
Thanks!
Wow. No responses. Well, I guess that explains why I haven't been able to find anything via Google and HTC hasn't been able to help me. It is actually a mystery. It's very odd that there are mappings somewhere besides the 'Personal Dictionary' that are used but they are apparently well hidden.
Can someone else with an HTC One at least try typing 'mn' and see if it auto-corrects to 'mm' for me? At least that way I'll know whether a factory reset will fix this or not. I swear it didn't used to do this, but I can't be 100% sure.
Thanks!
I'm rooted and running a custom Rom BUT using stock keyboard. That being said I typed mn and it showed mm as default. I selected mn and it saved. Tried again and it came up mn as the first word. Also, have you tried a custom keyboard? Swiftkey is excellent as it learns your typing habits.

Also I've done this before, and may sound like a facepalm moment, but any chance you hit the language button without realizing you did it? I've done it before and changed it to FR.

That's awesome! I didn't know it would override things if you select the word you meant to type. That's good enough for me.
It's weird that the built-in autocorrect mapping changes mn to mm in the first place.
Thanks for the tip!

It works great for me, but the map seems to have broke, Hit search then input your zipcode/postcode, I shall have a look and see if I can fix that tomorrow, Untill then. Please inform me if it crashed on your device, (Don't know how to fix that for you but please do inform me!)
Enjoy.

Thanks, works great, even if there is no map, I can search for my street or zip code and then set the location.
Since I haven't submitted 8 posts yet, I can't post links to the app page on the market. To see the app, search for "LectureNotes" (all one word) in the market, and it will be the first to come up. If you search for "Lecture Notes" (2 words), it will be a little way down the list of apps.
I am a college student that purchased a transformer prime and an adonit jot pro to replace my laptop and to allow me to take hand-written notes. I have searched for almost month for a good note app, purchasing and installing around 15 note applications, and I have been disappointed by each one of them. LecutreNotes goes above and beyond all of my expectations - it is by far the best hand-writing note application on the market today!
It has everything you would expect from a hand-writing application, as well as the ability to easily select areas and cut/copy/delete them. There are a bunch of settings for changing the way you zoom and scroll while taking notes, as well as settings for paper height, width, type, line size, and line color. On top of that, there is also a very handy feature that keeps the screen from locking while the application is open.
If you are looking for an app to take notes with a stylus, this is the one to get.

I have no stylus, just finger.. but don't care for it all that much. I wish it had the ability to launch the camera from within the app, so for that it is extra steps. I personally still like the stock one a little more.

Thanks, theching14. I have tried LectureNotes and like it a lot! It works quite well with my JotPro stylus, and does not seem to have the "skips" when writing small looped letters that I experienced with other handwriting apps. I particularly like the scroll and zoom bars, the custom pens, and the ability to rope and move text.
It would be nice to be able to create folders and store notebooks within them. I will suggest that to the developer.

Has anyone compared this one to Quill? I was just about to buy Quill when I found this post.
Seems like a pretty solid app. Been using writepad stylus which has been fine and is fairly similar. But the ability to zoom is a pretty big plus for this app so may switch. Cutting and pasting is nice as well. Probably won't use it much, but for those few times it definitely would be nice.

I have tried Quill, and although it was pretty good, I found the main drawback being that there was no scroll bars. First you had to Zoom, then scroll the page, then un-Zoom. You could write in the zoomed in screen. Quill did have palm detection (can toggle this to appear on bottom of screen), while LecureNotes currently does not.
Quill did not appear to have any "highlighter" pens that would not overwrite existing writing. I like to be able to highlight previously written content.
I've tried several Android handwriting apps, and they each have their pluses and minuses. I've been taking notes on their features, and plan on posting a write-up soon.
So far, my favorites are LectureNotes and Antipaper Notes.
Hi folks,
I am the author of LectureNotes, I was glad to read that the app is useful for you. Sorry for joining this forum and this thread so late, but I learned only very recently that there are couple of forum threads related to LectureNotes.
Note that I uploaded v1.12.2 today with a couple of minor additions, the most important one probably being the possibility to choose the directory where the app stores your notebooks.
Best regards,
Markus
Dears,
I use LectureNotes (=LN) with HTC Flyer and so far there's no better. No Quill, no Papyrus. Stock one is unfortunately worse than all... Go and buy the paid version along with LectureRecordings (it's also paid). It is far worth of each penny.
LN has a really wide setting range. You can change settings from a variety of choices. You can add layers, add image, add sound (with LectureRecordings which I immidiately installed), create custom pens, make highlight pens, add keyword and search, organize with folders, customeize the paper color, scheme etc everything...
It automatically recognizes the pen of HTC Flyer and it supports pressure sensitive. Set the pen buttons for different actions. Export PDF with vector graphics and full background.
If you have a active stylus tablet, just spare a few bucks to buy this LN +LR. You will never regret and will carry no notebook anymore...
Markus did really a good job, thanks many...

@hlimbu00: Most users recommend either the Adonit J-Prot or the Wacom Bamboo stylus, this is a bit a matter of taste.

but being a noob I have to get someone to link this issue to that developer thread.
Took the latest (Mar 20 14:22:28 + quinsyatt-Nightly-2-130320 and gapps-jb-20130301-signed for my I717)
Hit the microphone button on the keypad and sent Goggle search down a rabbit-hole that loops for while until "Unfortunately, Google Search has stopped. Report/OK".
Pkg: com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox
Exception class name: java.io.FileNotFoundException
Source file:AssetManager.java
Line number: -2
Stack trace: (last) android.content.res.Resources$NotFoundException: File res/raw/open.wav from drawable resource ID 0x7f080009
Can re-create at will and re-booting does not help.
This was my first JB rom attempt so after I mounted it as a USB drive, used it and ejected from the PC side (Win. 7), it would acknowledge the haptic keys but did nothing else. Only the long power button worked to power it off - is that normal?
Thanks for all your efforts - everyone!

They called you a noob because this issue is a Gapps issue which has been present with CM10.1 since the beginning. Update Google search in the app store and your problem will go away.
Its tough finding the right think via search.
But your more likely to find an answer in the Q&A section in the future--that's where people go to ask qusstions--but if you're like me, you often pop into the section to pay your dues, to learn what's been going on lately, or to find answers to problems you didn't know you had. I call it education.
Don't be discouraged. Some people are more supporting than others.
I've used search in one form or another since Winmo6, and my success rate has been limited.

On the rare chance it won't go away, use a different keyboard...like the "Jelly Bean Keyboard" or others like it from the market. They're exact copies of the stock one, often with a few added features.

I just changed from an iPhone 5 to HTC ONE and I'm so frustrated at this issue. In iPhone, after sending a text message the keyboard stays on the screen in case you want to type something right after what you sent previously. In HTC One however, If I type "Hello" and press send, the keyboard will hide in bottom before I can type "How are you?" in the following separate text message. It's pretty frustrating to keep clicking the white part to bring back the keyboard up to send a follow up text. I've tried all kinds of things but just can not seem to find a solution to this problem. Any help will be appreciated. BTW it's running stock at&t software and nothing has been modified.
That's the way it's supposed to be there's no fix because nothing is broken

Here is how a normal person sends a text:

I hate people like you. Text 1 Hello. 2. How are you? 3. Whats going on tonight?.
If your going to have a conversation with the person then call them if not then just get straight to the point. I think the fix is knowing when you make a phone call vs text.

as noted, this isn't a 'problem' with the phone. it's working properly. i almost dont want to dignify your questionw itha response due to, as others noted, your apparent penchant for sending a series of short texts taht could easily jsut be one message. part of the problem is you. that said, I will provide a response because i use an app that deservesplugging and is truly a spectacular addition to the phone. Get yourself the Chomp SMS app from the app store (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.p1.chompsms and at chompsms.com). It's tremendous for about 1000 different reasons, one of which is that is allows you to control when the keyboard auto-hides.
to your credit, years ago when i switched to Android from iPhone i did find this setting odd. however, i got used to it and actually much prefer it now. i'd probably dropkick myself in teh face if i had to deal with the keyboard staying up and that tiny little screen on the iPhone again...you can only see about 2 messages! that was horrifically frustrating.

also, it really sucks that this is your first post in XDA. i know we're long past the days where these forums were saved for the dedicated developer and hardcore enthusiast, but this is just a sad introduction ot use on XDA. it's crap like this that's turning these forums into the new android/droid forums...do a little reasearch before posting, okay? maybe even read the rules of the forums?
Hi all,
My girlfriend had an iphone but kept smashing the screen on it, so we went halvies on the xperia z1. She was enthralled initially, but before long started asking questions about the phone, and how to use it, etc.
First thing she asked was, how do I search the phone? I'm like, actually... I'm not sure. So after a bit of rummaging, turns out theres actually no way to do this. Hangouts doesn't offer any way to search SMS's... on the iPhone the search function searches both messages, notes, calendar, etc etc.
Secondly, she asked for a decent notes app. The notes app that comes with the xperia z1 isn't customizable at all, and other ones (like evernote) are endlessly complex and customizable, which is not what she wants. She just wants a horizontal line by line notes app. I ended up showing her Keep (by google) and that seems to be working okay. I think she can search through them okay as well.
Thirdly, whenever she tries to navigate anywhere on google maps, the first thing that comes up is "google text to speech engine has closed". Then navigation works fine, but the TTS system crashing every time on startup is a bit concerning (this is a problem that I've had as well).
Fourthly, on the iPad and iPhone they have iBooks. Now, iBooks can open PDF's and Word documents and present everything in a snazzy bookshelf view. On Android, theres no alternative. Theres no app that gives you the same bookshelf view while being able to show both PDF's and Doc's.
Then theres the general quality of the apps. The email app is ghastly. The Gmail app is amazing, but the default email app looks like it hasn't been updated in years. Using the purpose built outlook application to send emails doesn't work either (on both her phone and my phone, emails get stuck in the outlook outbox).
I don't use the features that she uses, but man alive, anyone making the switch from iPhone to Android phones.... it would be a traumatic one. On a flagship Z1, to have the TTS engine crash when navigation starts, amongst other issues, is seriously frustrating. I really don't know why I encouraged the switch to the Z1.
Now, with google getting more hostile with the integration of their products, its starting to affect the quality of the platform (or I feel that way, at least). Gmail app? Awesome. Default email app? Terrible. Hangouts as an SMS app? Its okay, but it keeps trying to get me to use google+ hangouts. No, thats not what I want to do, I just want to send an SMS!
Apple has no such alliegences...their messaging app doesnt try to ram a social networking solution down your throat. Messaging just messages. Email just emails.
Anyway, rant over. Can anyone provide recommendations or solutions as to the above? I'd love to keep her as an Android user if we can figure the issues out...
Thanks
