I recently purchased an S4 and managed to get an MDK version. I haven't had a chance to root it yet, so I used to keep canceling out of the system update prompt. Unfortunately, today while I was typing an email the prompt came up and I accidentally hit the install prompt, which led to an immediate reboot of my system and it initiated the installation of the system update. I managed to take the battery out immediately and prevented the update from completing. Every time I reboot the phone now, it goes through the "installing system update" cycle and I have to remove the battery to prevent it from completing.
Do I have any chance of killing the update process and retaining the MDK version?

Try booting it into download mode and then cancelling to see if it would boot normally. Root then freeze/rename/delete sdm.apk. if not I would download the mdk stock image and flash through odin to remove the update files. After getting it to boot enable airplane mode and root itm

Thanks for the suggestion. I just booted into "Download Mode", but didn't connect my phone to the computer. I powered down the device and rebooted. It went into recovery mode and tried to install the system update again... any other suggestions to kill the update from taking?

I have an idea. Someone may need to confirm this will work. Actually im pretty sure it will work. Flash the MDK pit file in odin. If you need the file let me know.
I second that idea.

Here is a link to a ODEX or DEODEX stock rom. Just download your preference and flash with Odin. If you need help with that, just post and we'll give the steps.

go ahead and do the update, or not?. My phone is unrooted, lagfix installed, GPS runs good and so is AP mobile. Everything works flawlessly. I heard/read and saw lots of people have problem with the OTA update. Do i miss anything if i don't do this update? I am thinking of waiting until the Froyo release. I know to do the update, I should remove lagfix, ext 2. My main concern is the availability of AP Mobile after update? Any advices. Thanks.
You may run into issues if you install it with the MobileAP mod.
There's a new version of MobileAP that supports JI6 just fine - you'll just have to reapply that new version from the MobileAP thread after the update. Be sure you undo the lag fix first or you'll be in a world of hurt.
The OTA may fail on your phone even so, but it's easy to flash the JI6 update via ODIN and get everything working again.
Thanks for the replies. The only thing I don't know how to flash using odin.

You're in the right place.. here are a thread that can help you if you need to use Odin. Hopefully the OTA will work fine.. just remember to undo that lag fix.

I used the OCLF, which was an easy one-button undo. I'm not sure about what needs to be done to undo any of the other lagfixes.. maybe those threads have the answers.

OK. I removed OCLF and EXT2, then go ahead and do the update. However, during the update process, the % bar 0-100%, near the end when it reached 100%, I got a prompt "update failed, your fone will reboot". Now, looks like I am stuck at the boot screen (Vibrant and SAMSUNG screen). What should i do now?
One thing though, I was able to put the phone in the Download mode (volume up/down, pwr button). But when i select re-install packages, i got message "no update.zip file on sdcard". Is it ok if i put "update.zip" file on the SD card (root) and reinstall? Will this restore the phone? Thanks.
I ran into the same thingwhen I tried to install the ota update...ended up having to reflash...i just don't think its worth it to update....if it isn't broke don't fix it...lol

Edit: I didn't go to page 2.. thanks JD for answering the same question before me
I just got the OTA update and I was rooted and OCLF lag fixed with clockwork installed and wireless tether installed.
After the update I was still rooted, lag fix still worked (quadrant about 2300~ or so) and wireless tether just worked.
To be honest I don't like the update becase of crap running in the background and the new task killer administers vacuum to genital organs of decayed donkeys...but it all went smooth.
I'm even tethered to the phone now

Thanks so much! Anyone mind putting a real brief set of instructions. I know he just got done so he's probably resting. But if anyone could chime in I think would be great. Or if the jnstructuins for other roots work then just let me know. I know how to search?

So yeah... I found instructions and was able to flash from odin but I have no su and root apps are telling me I don't have root. I tried to install su from the play store but it said I didn't have binaries. Is there more to this than just flashing or what? Thanks in advanced.

It went back to full stock for me. I re rooted afterwards a 2nd time. No issues.
This should be moved to dev section...thats normally where all stock odin files are posted.
I want to cut it to the chase, but I am going to attach a video too because this may help!
I had safe strap installed on my i545 Verizon Galaxy S4 on Me7 and I installed several different roms with no problem. Today, I was rocking the eclipse rom, but decided that I wanted to return to the hyperdrive rom that I had yesterday.
I know the Rom works because i had the exact ZIP file flashed and working yesterday...
But now I flashed it and then the module files and when I reboot it stays on the samsung boot logo and will not show safetrap... its just stuck there...
I don't care what it is I need to do, even if I lose safe trap or root, I want my phone fixed. But I'd love to keep it if possible
Im freaking out but I can go into download mode and some weird blue recovery mode if I hit Volume down + power or Volume up + power.
What are my options?
Thank you so much!

Yes, I would try this --->> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2301259
Pick your appropriate build.
Then if all goes well, you can re-install safestrap and see if your ROM slots are still viable.

I need some help I used to have my phone rooted then I got an update to 4.3 since this update I have not been able to get root back on my phone. It seems that KNOX is blocking this process. Instead I tried to simply put a ROM on using ADB. I cannot figure out what is going on when I tried to transfer the file it said "Signature Verification Failed" I have reset my phone. I turned on everything necessary in developer options. I have uninstalled all my phone drivers and kies completely then re-installed.
I have watched Tutorial video after tutorial video and I cannot figure it out. If someone can help me I would GREATLY appreciate it.

So I cannot post on that thread, but I did revisit it and reset my phone and went through the instructions carefully.(this time on a different computer) I actually managed to disable knox and get SuperSU back on my phone. It still says the binary needs to be updated and when I click continue, then click normal since I do not have a custom recovery. It attempts to install, but then I get the message- Installation failed Please reboot and try again. So I tried to reboot my phone a few times to see if it would work and no luck. Any ideas?
EDIT: I also tried to install SuperSU update using my sdcard and still no luck. Signature verification problem.
