I'm not sure is this file the same in ICS and JB. If you have root access try to create
/system/etc/vold.fstab
and put this line in it.
dev_mount sdcard /storage/external_SD auto /devices/platform/omap/omap_hsmmc.0/mmc_host/mmc1
Then change it's permission to 644 then reboot

Myfolder in Root folder is missing

Hi guys,
I used ES File Explorer to create a folder in Root"/" directory as MyFolder. I copied some video files from sdcard to that folder...
It was kind of slow and hanging... But when i rebooted again, i am not able to find the folder in Root..
Can somebody let me know what is happening...
Cheers!!!!!
You can't create folders in /, do it in /data or /mnt/media

[Q] edited prop.build now phone won't boot - help?

I have TeamWinRecoveryProject installed, running Perfection RC2. I was unable to mount my SDcard when I ran CWM also. When I click on mount in TWRP nothing happens. I did back up my prop.build to my sd card just in case I messed something up, but until I figure out how to mount my sdcards so I can move the file from the external back to /system I'm toast \
I'm wondering if I can extract the prop.build from the Prefection release and flash it to my phone using Odin, but I don't know if it's possible or even how to go about doing it.
*edit* n/m I figured out how to access the system directory in ADB and did a mv for the backup and my phone's working again.
You may already know this or have discovered it but for future reference when you edit the build.prop file and save it you will need to change the properties to rw--r--r

[Q] No R/W on SDCARD

Hey guys,
I had Dark Paranoid 2.3 with MemSwapMod on my SGS3, everything was fine. Today there was an update and i decided to do a full wipe.
So I deleted the mod, copied my files, wiped, flashed Dark Paranoid 2.5, installed the MemSwapMod and wanted to copy my files (from windows to phone). But i cant copy, evertime I got errors. then I checked permissions on sdcard0 (cause now my external SD is my internale and vice versa) and seen that they are d---rwxr-x instead of drwxrwxrwx and belongs to system:sdcard_rw. changing ownership in Terminal gives me a "operation not permitted" (IM ROOT?!?!?!?!) and changing permissions with chmod gives my no errors, but even no changes of the permissions.
any help, gues or whatever????
cheers

Try change it with adb shell and use adb remount to have writable phone access (need one insecure kernel or adbd insecure (by Chainfire)).
If it doesn't work, flash a stock rom and look what happened. If you can write data, your filesystem (ext4) may be broken.
Tried mount -o remount /storage/sdcard1 (flashed ROM without Mod), no succes.
Now My External is my External again, I can copy files via windows, but not on the phone itself.
Copy Files via FTP to SDCard (SolidExplorer) is working fine, too.

How to exchange memories

Hi, this is a tutorial that explain how to change the internal sd with the external.
It is an idea of danitab78, i decided to create this to shy away from talking in other threads.
I think it solves the main problem of our device that has only 2,3 gb as internal sd.
It works on this script:
ICS:
mount -o remount,rw /
mount -t vfat -o umask=0000 /dev/block/vold/179:61 /mnt/sdcard
mount -o bind /data/media /mnt/sdcard/external_sd
chmod 777 /mnt/sdcard/external_sd
The only thing to do is create a "external_sd" folder in external_sd
At first, you must have a file managar that works on rooted phones like "Root Explorer" and also "Script Manager - SManager" so you can bring the attached file into your phone, i suggest you to paste it in system/etc. Now rename your .txt in .sh.
Open Script Manager with root permissions and find the .sh, tap on it, and if is asked how to open it, choos script/executable. In the next windows tap on "su", "boot","save" and finally "run".
If it doesnt give you any error it has worked!
Congratulations

JELLYBEAN:
I copied kumas post, so thanks to him here and here
ROOT IS REQUIRED and Jelly Bean
I made/copied (lol) this script by combining Artas182x and Mateo1111 scripts
this is how you would save it as script (.sh file)
Code:
#!/system/bin/sh
SU
busybox mount -o remount,rw /
busybox mount -t vfat -o umask=0000 /dev/block/vold/179:61 /mnt/sdcard
if busybox mount | busybox grep vold/179:61; then
busybox mount -o bind /data/media /storage/external_SD
busybox rm /storage/external_SD/external_sd
busybox chmod -R 777 /storage/external_SD
fi
Or just download the attachment and unzip to your sdcard and run with smanger or similar app (and set to boot at startup if you want)
Note:
1.When using the camera and video recorder, change settings storage to internal memory (if you don't, you will have to reboot the phone to see your pic/vid you just took)
2.This script will allow you to install large size games (ex. Asphalt 7) but you will still need link2sd (to move apps to your external_SD)
Now if you use the link2sd app, select the "create symbolic link"
lol one more thing, you will need to partition your sdcard to use link2sd.
3.If y'all have busybox installed properly this script should work fine. In addition, this script is all set for init.d (but i have problems using this method). You will get an error for SU, because it's set for init.d. However, the script still works fine through a terminal.
Warning, using Android Tuner app can mess up your L9 and I'm not responsible if you do!
Or if you don't want to use link2sd and partition your Sdcard, you can use Android Tuner However, this app is really advance and you should make a CWM backup (thanks to Artas182x) before messing with this app. It has a lot of options and you could mess the phone up.
I did it for a better english, i hope
Will it take the apps into it!?

I did it and i installed NFS Most Wanted and Asphalt 7, so definetly yes
it works, my internal now states 16gb
but i still don`t understand " The only thing to do is create a "external_sd" folder in external_sd"
does it means i have make folder external_sd after all the process?
in process so should be like this
1. install script manager
2. load script
3. check internal sd now should be as big as our mmc
4. create a "external_sd" folder in external_sd
does it right?
Normally, in /mnt/sdcard there is a folder named "external_sd" that is your microsd card, you have to create a folder named "external_sd" in it.
It doesnt matter if you create it before or after the script, i did it after and it worked but i think it would have worked in any case
Perfect it worked!!!

it really is move data of the application..
but if you take a look on "/data/app/" the installed apps is still there and the "/sdcard/app" is empty
it seems move everything including data of application (OBB files), and default location of application like whatsapp media now is in the "/sdcard/whatsapp"
is that normal or there would be any possible way to move "/data/app" to such as "/sdcard/app" ??

insted of script manager u could simplify this to make a script in rom toolbox lite via scripter
just put inside the script
Code:
mount -o remount,rw /
mount -t vfat -o umask=0000 /dev/block/vold/179:61 /mnt/sdcard
mount -o bind /data/media /mnt/sdcard/external_sd
chmod 777 /mnt/sdcard/external_sd
\
name it as u wish, example "int2sd" and make it run on boot
sorry for asking this..
if i do this switching the memory, so the external sd will be the internal and the internal will be the external sd.. is it right?

[Q] How to mount ext sdcard as read-only in 4.1.2

Hi,
I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 verizon model. Its rooted and running CleanROM 6.0R2 ROM android 4.1.2.
I am trying to accomplish below
1. Mount external sdcard in read-only mode. This is to avoid files on the extsdcard being accidentally deleted.
I have music and some old photos in there. Sometimes my son plays with the phone. I don't want him
to delete all the photos/music on the external sdcard.
I have tried following, but none of then resolved the issue
1. Partition external sd card as ext3 and set all files/dir to read-only permission from ubuntu box.
This didn't work because, phone doesn't recognize the sdcard and partitions on it.
2. Partition extsdcard as vfat and set permission for the files/dir to read-only using root-explorer.
I cannot set permissions for vfat partition.
3. Partition extsdcard as vfat and Mount extsdcard as read-only using "root-explorer".
Doesn't work. Files can be deleted from other apps like Gallery.
4. Partition extsdcard as vfat and mount extsdcard as read-only using terminal and busybox.
This works. But files are owned by root. For group and other, permission is None. Hence
other apps are not able to view the files. I also cannot chmod and change permissions of the files.
It gives "File system is read-only" error.
From reading many posts, I conclude, partition has to be vfat for apps like Gallery/video player etc to view it.
Only option to achieve read-only on a vfat partition is to mount it read-only. Based on this, any idea how I can achieve my objective?
Also, once set, what happens is the phone is rebooted? Anyway to repeat the sets at boot time?
Thanks
