I cant write in development thread jet so i figure here is place to ask. In original thread in development section DevSwift1 it isnt mentioned does it require UB and does it work with stock kernel. I suppose it has to be unlocked boot loader but i would avoid it if possible to install rom with LB?
First of all this thread should be opened in Q&A section since this is a question
But if you want to use XNovathor 4.0.4 V1 you need an unlocked Bootloader. But it should also work if you patch the ROM with Atis Patch ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2196537). After patching the ROM you should be able to install it also on a locked Bootloader

Hello,
I've recently got a new Xperia Ray with FW 4.0.2.A.0.62 (Gingerbread). I haven't flashed anything yet and would like to do so with one of the ICS roms. But I couldn't figure out (out of the many threads around) the steps to do so on this particular FW.
I have CM9 on my Nook tablet and am very pleased with it. I would be happy to have anything that works this well (and better) on my Ray.
Can someone please point me to the steps required (rooting, bootloader ,flashing, kernel etc), and also recommend a good ICS rom (speedy, light, kind on the battery) for the .62 FW?
Appreciate any info and apologies for the sense of newbiness.
thanks.
Check this Q&A Thread for your phone.
For ROMs, look in the Ray Development section, read the topics and compare yourself.
To install one, you have to do the following:
Download the ROM you want.
If it doesn't include kernel itself, download a kernel that is compatible with this ROM.
Place downloaded .zip file on your SDcard.
Unlock bootloader.
Install custom kernel via fastboot.
Install custom ROM via Recovery.
Unlocking bootloader and kernel installation is included in my tutorial, check my signature.
Hi Friends I've recently swiched from xperia ray to xperia j. I still have my ray and keep it up to date with mods & the latest firmware but the j forum is completely deserted were stuck on primitive stock firmware because we have no cwm recovery for our device all we have is a moded miro cwm wich only works on .18 & 28 firmware and the new firmware is 7,5 and we can not update on locked bootloader because the cwm just does not cut it and i dont see a dev to develop it. doomlord is to busy with sudies to help so if any senior developer can help us we would love you to peaces the most bacic thing a part from root is cwm and we dont even have it so please someone help. Just look on the forum and see how deserted it is.

I highly suggest you to contact a kernel developer of our section so that he/she helps you to integrate cwm into the kernel ramdisk ( this will be permanent and not on the system partition ). Also, in default.prop of the ramdisk, make ro.secure=0 for adb root. Once you have CWM, get the latest Superuser binaries from here - http://androidsu.com/superuser/
By this way, any firmware version should become easy to root. I would love to help you, but I don't know how to integrate CWM into ramdisk.
Also, try extracting the zImage and ramdisk from your stock rom using this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1659584
I will also try to root your latest firmware. Don't worry, there will be many devs soon. Good luck.
Note : - The above mentioned steps are only for unlocked bootloader, as it is not possible to flash custom kernels with locked bootloader.

I no my phones branded so no unlocked bootloader The cm10 kernels obviously have cwm but i can't flash them. a kernel dev from this forum is trying to develop custom stock kernels for miro tipo & j. his first words on his thread was "I Can't believe hoe deserted this forum is". i guse i'll have to go back to my ray for a while.
Hi there,
Excuse me for starting this thread, but it has been hours now, that I've been looking for a solution on the forum...
Unfortunately, couldn't get one
Let me introduce my device:
Sony Ericsson Live With Walkman
running 2.3.4 (.62) rooted with doomlord's kit by downgrading to (.58) and OTA update
CWM installed - full back up created on SD
bootloader unlock allowed:no
stock kernel 2.6.32.9-perf
So my question is : is there a custom ICS (preferably .587 based) rom that I could flash with CWM, directly onto the rooted 2.3.4 (locked bl), without the need of upgrading to generic ICS (when connect to PC it says that I already have the latest software updates) and of course without getting to brick the device?
Also it will be good if I keep the root on the phone.
Wrong section, bro. There is your place.
About your question. Yes, there are many ROMs based on stock ICS, but you mostly need to upgrade to ICS first. For example - xNXT, Revolution ICS HD, Zelly Cream, Viper etc.
If you want to upgrade to ICS, use Flashtool.
sry fr being a bit rude but u havent searched this section properly....
hav a look at the all-in-one roms, kernels, etc sticky thread by predatOr in this section...
Sorry guys, I only searched the development section... Never crossed my mind to look in troubelshooting. Thanks for the tip, you are the best

Can anyone help me which JB kernel and rom is best for xperia active, for daily use ? My phone is rooted.
My bootloader is locked and it can't be unlocked, so i have to use rom that can be flashed even if bootloader is locked, so anyone know which one should i use ?
Thanks in advance
Best ROM/Kernel threads are not allowed on XDA.
Everyone has their own opinion, it is therefore recommended that you head over to the development sections and try them out for yourself.
Thanks
Gregbradley
this is for unlocked bootloader only, as you need to flash a custom kernel!!!
