Hi,
Recently I have replaced my Xperia mini pro's ribbon... May be you all know that this ribbon contains proximity sensor, front camera etc.
After the replacement when I'm making a call screen went black and it dosent turn on when phone is away from the ear.. I have checked on service test menu and proximity sensor is always read as "On"
Does anyone know what should I do???

Bringing this thead up again because I am having the same issue, Proximity sensor set to near all the time... could it be badly placed? I was ever so careful to get it millimetrically perfect..
something must be causing the sensor to read an input all the time. Ever considered there could be some dust below the glass? Try and see what happens when you take the screen assembly away from the sensor. Another cause would be a deffective part (bad ribbon/flex components).
Thank good lord I managed to buy a genuine Sony flex ribbon

Hi guys,
Ill start with saying that my english is veryy bad
But my problem is:
I quess my light sensor on my hd2 is almost defect.
why?
When i start a call (or got an incoming call) the screen turns black
(as its suppose to be when you hold it to your ear)
But it turns black all the time, no matter how i hold it.
So i did a quick test, i called a number, and took a very bright light (100w) just next to the sensor. and after that, it doenst turn black for the first time!
So the sensor isnt working correctly anymore?
It is since my telephone has gone back to the shop for a new screen.
Can i make it better with software? Cause it works.. But only with a very bright light.... Or do i need to get back to the shop?
thnx
try a soft reboot and then if needed a hard reboot/factory reset. don't forget to back up the phone first as it wipes the phone
Sorry, i was forgotten to say:
Ive tried different roms, and even Android. Results are always the same!
That is an odd problem. Especially since the ambient light sensor is not what is used to black out the screen during calls. That would be the proximity sensor.
If you look very carefully just to the left of the speaker at the top of the phone you will see the proximity sensor. Do you have a case on your phone that may be blocking/interfering with this sensor? Do you hold your phone in a way that your fingers or hand may be close to this sensor?
Another thing to try is put the call on speaker phone, this should disable the proximity sensor and keep the screen on. If it does not then you may potentially have a hardware issue.
I haven't got something blocking the sensor. But because my screen was broken, they placed another one. (And since then it happend)
Ok, i did some tests..
I cleaned the screen very proper. And i was sure there was no spat of dust or whatever. so i called again.. And it worked properly!
But.. When i put my finger on the sensor.. (So its not 100% clean anymore) it turns black again. So its veeeeery sensitive..
When i turn on the speaker.. It doesnt turn black..
So conclusion:
It turns back way to fast. Only when the screen is 100% clean, and there is enough light in the room.. It works properly..
Aren't there any settings for windows or android to change the sensitivity? Cause this is very annoying..

Not that I'm aware of. It sounds like they didn't do a proper job of replacing the screen. The ammount of light in the room should have no impact on the screen turning on/off. Also, my screen is often quite filthy and I've never had that trip the proximity sensor. It is possible that the sensor was moved or misaligned during the repair.
Right after I replaced the rear camera in my phone it seems like the proximity sensor died as when I try to call the screen immediately turns off and locks until the call has ended.
Proximity sensor finder indicates that there is an object 3cm away but there is nothing actually there and the indicator is just stuck on 3cm.
What should I do?
I'm on cm9 btw.
Bump
Same issue
I have my stock camera and run CM9 AOKP, and I have similar issues with the proximity sensor. I read somewhere that it was an issue with CM in general and always discounted it as such. I did set up volume rocker wake and use that to wake the screen on call.
Do you use facelock? Try disabling it. Its a well known bug in CM9 that effecting proximity sensor...
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
Using the volume buttons doesn't wake the phone.
Note sure what facelock is.
Thanks for the answers.
my wifes proximity sensor started acting up along with many other problems. this all happened right after the last OTA update. I sent it in to moto for repair. I was suprized i didnt need a reciept. I bought it on cl used. went to motos site and they showed me how to check if warranty was still good
Phone was imported so no warranty is available.

Ok, I figured and putting the proximity sensor really close to a light source makes the screen wakes.
Also, using proximity sensor finder I did see that the proximity sensor responds when putting it really close to the light source.
It seems that while replacing the back camera, the rubber cover of the proximity sensor fell off. Is there any way I can replace it or improvise something that might suite?
Thanks.
Hi,
My gx2 was running cm10 and everything was working fine up until recently when my lcd screen broke.
So I ordered a new one and replaced the broken one, the repair has gone well , also the screen was good. Except there was a problem with the proximity sensor, when i tried to make a call the screen would go black and not switch on again, the only thing I could do was to take out the battery.
So I thought maybe I damaged the proximity sensor somehow while replacing the screen, so I bought a new sensor. The same Problem.
So I thought maybe it was firmware related even though I did not change the firmware and before the screen broke everything was working fine.
I flashed a stock rom, again everything went well , phone was working except the same problem with the proximity sensor.
Anyone know what that could be? Could I have damaged the motherboard somehow, even if that is unlikely because I was always extra careful and patient.

1. You should check if the sensor is really damaged. You can use e.g. Android Sensors app from Play store.
2. If it is broken, then try to disable it in ROM settings. I think there is at least an option in phone/dialer settings.
Maybe that can help.
Good luck !

I know how to disable the sensor, when I disable it calling works, but I want the sensor working . The thing is I thought I damaged it while replacing the screen, so I bought a new sensor, but the problem is still there.
android sensor box shows me a value of 0,0
typing in *#0*# and then "sensors" : the screen is always green an the phone is vibrating PROXIMITY: 13
the phonetester app shows Proximity sensor :near
I just figured something out.
The proximity sensor works when I hold the phone against a light source, when i do the *#0*# test and hold it against the light, the screen turns to white and the sensor works as it should( when i hold my hand near it, screen switches green and phone vibrates) , but only as long as it is near the light source.
Could the sensor just not be calibrated correctly? Is there a way to calibrate it?
than you
Hello to all...again !!
Recently, i broke the digitizer flex cable and the antenna cable connector so i had to
replace both of them. I did. Antenna works great, digitizer works great..the only problem
is the proximity sensor.
I have disassembled the device several times and if i'm not mistaken the proximity sensor
is on the digitizer's ribbon cable. Is that correct?
Anyway, everytime i make a call, the screen goes black and can't turn it on. No way to NORMALLY turn it on.
the only way i've found that turns on the screen, is if i put the sensor in front of a light i.e a lamp.
Furthermore, when i go in the service menu ( *#*#7378423#*#* ) and do the proximity switch test it defaults to on
when i think it should default to off (because at the time i'm starting the test, there's no obstacle in front of the proximity sensor).
when i move the sensor in front of a light, the test gives me a sound and the value changes from on to off.
So i'm thinking that there is nothing wrong with the hardware. They didn't send me a flawed digitizer, did they ?
Plus, is there any config file or driver responsible for that sensor ?
Also, i searched xda and found this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uMk1S90MjbY for motorola defy. Is there
any workaround like this for the neo v?
Thank you very much for your time and assistance.
bump?
The proximity sensor is on the right corner, between front camera and the right corner.
Check again the position of the sensors beneath those two black piece of plastic.
The items are, from the left to right:
- speaker;
- light sensor;
- front camera;
- two viewer for the proximity sensor.
@ciubexx
thank you for your answer.
I checked the sensors and are correctly positioned but the problem persists.
Again, if i put the device under light the sensor seems to work.
Also, i've downloaded "proximity sensor finder" from google play and it seems like
the sensor is constantly covered. I did the test without the front housing and the same
happened again.
Also, i have a problem with the earphone. When the front housing is attached the volume is
very low but when removed, the volume is normal again. What could that be?
Thanks again.
edit: everything solved. disabled the sensor and removed earphone's cover from front housing.

How did you disable proximity sensor?

Hi out of the blue my Xperia Mini Pro Sk17i ambiance light sensor is either disable or broken ,
when i open service menu by dialing *#*#7378423#*#* , ambiance light sensor just show value = 0, i shine lights over also won't change....
is it possible its disable or broken? please help, my phone is out of warranty, i was hoping for a DIY repairs on it, any guide or tips on which part should i replace,?
thanks in advance
Hey there. I'll just assume you're using a stock rom, and I'll asume it (your light sensor) is actually broken.
"Repairing" it wont be cheap, because it's part of the flex ribbon/cable assembly, which also holds the front camera, notification LED, proximity sensor, home button, display/touchscreen assembly connector and speaker pins. Pretty much everything is soldered to this component.
There *could* be a problem with your flex ribbon. Perhams some of its wires are starting to break? I know this can lead to all sorts of issues, because it started messing with my LED some months ago. But, on the other hand, it might just be a faulty sensor.
Whatever it might be, I say you leave it as it is. Replacing the flex is no joke on the XMP.

thanks for the reply.... im not on stock rom , its 4.04 zelly cream 6.0 AWESOME ROM!!! love it... but before i flash this, i already have issue with the sensor ...
hmm i saw a video on replacing the lcd screen, seems not that hard, just lots of steps... but problem is im not sure where to find the replacement part for the board as u mention, the lcd is common in ebay, etc...
thanks for the reply by the way. i willing to fix it myself as i love this phone alot!! i use it for work, papago gps map, calls, fb ,messaging thats all.. the keyboard and its compact body is my fav combination...
Ebay
Search on ebay for "flex cable sk17i".
Before disassembly please make sure that the cable you will receive has all the sensors and the camera. The first time I purchased such a cable, it came without proximity sensor... Unfortunately I cannot upload pictures or links, but google is your friend, right?
If I were you, I'd look for a flex ribbon with the "1241-7544" part number between the big gray square and the display port/slot. Genuine parts WILL have this number, cheap knock-offs don't (at least most of the time).
