SGP 5.0 International Version Bricked - Please help - Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, 5.0

Please friends, help!
Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 YP-G70 (with phisycal home button) bricked.
I accidentally flashed the rom to SGS-I9000B to the SGP 5.0 so it got bricked.
It's status is: doesn't turn on, doesn't enter in dowload mode (Volume down + Home + Power), doesn't show charging icon.
After weeks of exaustive researche, the only way I was able to enter in download mode was using the Adam's Outler procedure: Instaling Linux (Ubuntu along W7), Java, Oracle Virtual Box, a XP version of Windows under VBOX, to run Samsung drivers and Odin after using Unbrickable Resurrector R40.
Well, using this procedure SGP 5.0 enters in downloading mode and when I use the PIT file and BootloadersOnly provided by Adam the result in Odin is PASS! Despite that SGP doesn't reboot and keeps the same way: doesn't turn on, doesn't enter in dowload mode (Volume down + Home + Power), doesn't show charging icon.
So I enter in download mode using Unbrickable Resurrector R40 again and try to flash several SGP 5.0 YP-G70 Intl ROMs: Stock Froyo, Stock Ginger Bread and some Customs ROMs most of them PASS in the Odin result BUT SGP 5.0 never reboots or turn on after the procedure.
I have a doubt of marking or not Re-partition in Odin, but the procedure just works if I mark it.
I feel I was close to resurrect it and make it work again but all I've got is frustration.
I'm not an expert as the major of you so I beg some enlightned soul show me the way to make it works: step by step and share with me the right files I have to use to make it works.
I also tryied the same procedure using Odin 1.3, 1.7, 1.83 version. All the same result.
It seems like I miss something. I also tried several procedures I found in other threads none worked for me.
I also have installed Heimdall but I was not able to find the appropriate files to use it and SGP 5.0 can not have the batery removed. Someone wrote Adam has developed a tool for SGP full recovery but I didnt find it.
Please, folks, help me and I will share the solution with other people in the same situation.
Thanks and best regards.

Wanted you to know I saw your post but got a full plate today... If you can get to download mode we should be able to get you fixed up... just give me some time...

Ok, So I've been reading your post and it seems like you've been diligent in looking for fixes. I don't understand this:
"Instaling Linux (Ubuntu along W7), Java, Oracle Virtual Box, a XP version of Windows under VBOX, to run Samsung drivers and Odin after using Unbrickable Resurrector R40."
Does that mean that installed Ubuntu "natively" or in Virtual box? or have tried both?

Same problem

Hi. I'm in the same situation. Flashed the Player 4 rom and I've got a black box now. I've just been chilling for a few weeks, tired of flashing it and failing, so I'm glad to see somebody else is working on this too.
I hope one of us has some luck soon.

Hi, Meticulus.
I've installed Ubuntu so I can run the Unbrickable Ressurector under Ubuntu, then I run a Widows XP version with a VBOX under Ubuntu too to run Odin.
The farest I could go is to make it get into forced Download mode using Resurrector, but It wont turn on after passing in Odin.
Really need your help.
Thanks in advance.

OK, once you use the un-brickable resurector to get to download mode (don't reboot or anything), you need to flash a rom with boot loaders such as this one: http://www.4shared.com/zip/vxHoJ8E0/G70JKKE3_STOK_222RU_.html
If your partition tables are messed up, it may not boot but you should be able to get back to download mode without the resurector.... Hold power and volume down to try...
Give that a try let me know how it goes...

the reason for your spg not booting is cause your flashing the incorrect stuff onto it. idealy you want to flash a stock rom that works then CWM onto it so it doesn't happen in the future as your then flash the rest from there. ill get your my tablets stocks...

Yes, Java looks like the culprit. So I've tried Ubuntu from a live dvd and got Java errors there too.
Then I tried permutations of (jdk07u40, jdk-6u25, and jdk-6u16) with Unbrickable (R36, R37, R38 and R40) on my Slackware 14 machine. They all gave the same error message. Googling that error message gives many millions of results, all highly specialized Java discussions which I don't understand.
The only positive at this point is that UnbrickableResurrector does see the device and starts the process. Then Java dies.
So I'm looking for another angle. I will try Ubuntu again; I've freed up a small partition and I'll install it there. I'm wondering if I need an older version of Java, to match the era when these devices were current. Maybe Resurrector isn't compatible with newer Java jdk??
Any other ideas?

Hmm... Lets start with why your using the resurrector in the first place...
What condition is your player in right now?
NOTE: I haven't used the resurrector in at least a year so...
EDIT: Almost forgot: At what point do you receive this error? When the app is starting up? After some action?
EDIT2: Here is the source code line for your error. http://code.google.com/p/hummingbir...com/AdamOutler/LowLevelUnBrick/Shell.java#191

Right, thanks partner.
That's the one I unziped to reach the tar file.
Now Odin is not recognizing the device after running Unbrickable Resurrector and getting SGP into donwloading mode.
I tried to reinstall Samsung drivers using Zadig and it still doesnt recognizes SGP

Don't use Heimdall, After you get the player into download mode. Take it to Windows and use Odin! If you are using Heimdall for Windows then uninstall it. Then reinstall windows drivers from Samsung or install Kies... Then use Odin.

Hello out there. I'm back with good news, kinda. I'm now in the position of the original poster. I have a totally dead un-responsive do-nothing black box, BUT I am able to use the Resurrector and then Odin and I can successfully flash a pit, a bootloader and a rom. But then the Galaxy does not reboot.
This still feels like progress, since I couldn't even use the Resurrector a few days ago. I finally had to install Ubuntu Desktop on my machine. The Resurrector wouldn't run from Slackware or even from a Ubuntu live DVD.
So it looks like the sticking point for both the OP and I is the reboot.
Any further ideas are welcomed. Thanks for your interest.

Vibrant stuck,no signal,ODIN stuck at setupconnection

hi i recently tried to put android 2.3.2 rom on my phone.everything went smooth but when the phone came back on it didnt have a signal.it wont find my network.so im trying to put it back to a froyo rom through odin but it keeps getting stuck on setup connection.ive tried to find out through forums whats going on,also my download mode has a differnt screen.it says,FORCED UPLOAD by KEY PRESSING..anyone can u please help
What 2.3.2 rom did you try to put on your phone? Most of the gingerbread roms out now are at least 2.3.4. And what methods did you use to try to get to download mode?
Sent from my ZenDroid using XDA Premium App
iu cant find it but my download screen changed...also when my phone starts up its says galaxy s i9000 now instead of vibrant..to get to download mode i used the volume up n down keys and power button
heres what my phone info says...
Model number: gt-i9000
Firmware: 2.3.2
Baseband: i9000xxjve
Kernal: 2.6.35.7-i9000xwjv1-cl31216
[email protected] #2
Build: gingerbread.xwjv1
I hope you had backed up your /efs folder with the nv_Data.bin and imei information in it.
I have no clue why IN BOLD in the Vibrant guide/bible it doesn't say the first thing everyone should do is backup their /efs. No mention of it, boggles my mind.
Ever do a nandroid backup?
no i didnt back anything up..is there any way to get that back and or those files...the odin program sees the phone but its on com7..and it always hangs at setup connection...
Can you get the USBID on forced upload by key pressing? Use linux, open a terminal and type 'lsusb'.. then just copy-pasta the results in here via the included firefox. It would help me greatly. It would also help us to understand your problem

Use the USB install method instead of running in windows. Personally, I keep Ubuntu on a USB drive at all times because its capable of recovering windows. You can always boot any modern computer from a Ubuntu 32bit USB.
FIX
hey man I just did the same **** with my sisters phone and thought I was stuck too. here's what you do. ONLY hold down volume UP when you connect to odin. IT WILL go straight to DOWNLOAD MODE and not FORCE UPLOAD then you should be able to load the files you need.

[Q] SGP 5.0 U.S. Ver. HARD BRICKED! HELP!!!

Hi, I'm pretty new to Android and stuff, but I bricked my SGP 5.0 with a mod.. At first I was able to go into download mode but then I think I flashed the wrong firmware and now the device is completely unresponsive. Any advice on what to do would be great. I also already checked out all the forums on here but none have been able to work for me. Thanks in advance!
Yup. I was in the same boat as you. Exact same one actually. However i managed to get best buy to to switch mine out because i said it was "defective". I tried the linux tutorial with resurrector and nothing as well. And i also tried.... Well everything. From my thread i posted I gathered that no one (at leasr on xda) knows how to unbrick these damn things. So until these get more popular. Your sunk. Sorry pal:/
try the resurrector.. it's worked for me on a few occasions. it brought mine back from not even being able to turn on.
one thing that's not incredibly obvious with it though is you have to hold "vol up" for download mode while the program is doing its thing. if you don't hold the button it wont work.
Tried it.
I tried that already though and it wouldn't let me unbrick it, but I'll give it another try with what you said about the Vol.+Up keys! Thanks!
I don't have a 4.0 player but my 5.0 player was bricked initially the first time I tried to root... To get it into Download mode you need to hold Vol-(Vol down) button and Power button as the unit is powering up. Hold both for a few seconds until you see the yellow download mode picture.
Good luck
Are you able to get to the download mode? If so I have a simple solution. If not, start a download of Ubuntu to have the proper stuff to fix your problem.
I'm running Ubuntu with the Unbrickable Mod and I have it in download mode and I have virtualmachine installed with windows and sammy drivers but my player wont show up in odin3. Any ideas to get it shwoing?
Either, shutdown VM and see if usb device shows up in windows. If it still does not then unplug usb from pc and then plug it back in, or transfer usb back to host in VM.
I tried that already.. It still doesn't show up in Odin3.
Check device manager for vm drivers for usb and remove them?
Sent from my YP-G70 using XDA App
Hmmm.... I don't really understand what you mean.. Sorry!
When you attach a usb device to a VM the vm software replaces the drivers of the USB device on the host with virtual drivers that redirects IO from the USB device to guest If the original driver does not get put back in during a detach then IO never goes back to the host.
I know that sounds complicated but I do not know how else to explain it...
Sent from my YP-G70 using XDA App
Okay, i fixed that. I have it in download mode, i uploaded the bootloaders that adamoutler has. I uploaded the stock rom you have. Odin3 said pass. But its still in download mode, autoreboot was checked. when i try turning it on, the download screen appears but the icon for download goes all over the screen then stops. Its still recognizeable in odin3 too. Any ways to get this thing going?
My stock rom does not include bootloaders and adam outler's bootloaders are only a temporary solution. What you need to do is flash a full international rom that has bootloaders. Then flash my stock rom to fix the capacitive buttons.
Sent from my YP-G70 using XDA App
Alright I see what you mean!! Where can I get a full stock rom though?
Well, I'm not exactly sure. I used to get mine from samfirmware.com but they have recently changed their site. You might try rumirands stock recovery in the dev section. You'll want to open it up and look for files like: boot.bin and Sbl.bin . These are the bootloader files. This will verify that you have a rom with bootloaders in it.
Sent from my YP-G70 using XDA App
Alright thanks a lot! Ill try rumirands stock and if that doesnt work ill go to samfirmware.com. Ill be back with the results in a few hours!!
Well Rumirands ROM did not. work. samfirmware.com only has the French and Chinese Rom versions so that doesnt help either. I downloaded a .tar.md5 from here : http://www.4shared.com/file/zhZjh0EY/package_us235tar.html..... Should I flash this by itself or do I need a pit file too?
The language of the ROM does not matter. What matters is that is has the boot loaders. Flashing my Stock ROM over it will fix language and capacitive buttons.
Make sure you have followed AdamOutler's intructions precisely. I don't recall having to use a pit file other than the one in his intructions but if comes to it, it is another troubleshooting point.
Realyy? Hm alright so what your saying is that when I have it in download mode, and with, lets the the chinese firmware, I flash that, turn on my sgp to see if it loads and then put it in download mode again and flash your stock rom, that it might work fine again???

[Q] Can any kind soul can upload a fresh CWM restore file? Anyone?

Hello everyone!
Cut to the chase:I semibricked my GT-5830i, i, and I so desperately need someone to help me upload a blank restore file to be flashed from CWM 5.0.2.6. I imagine it to be:
1. Backup current files using CWM.
2. Factory reset.
3. Backup factory resetted stuff using CWM restore.
4. Upload file mentioned in step 3.
5. Restore file mentioned in step 1 to your phone.
I understand most ppl would have personal stuff in their phone, hence I suggested the 5 steps above. And I apologize as I'm not able to give away incentives of any sort.
Thank you very much.
As odin works with galaxy young pit file..why not do a clean flash ??
As this will be better for you and also you will not require to find a good and rare soul
I laid out upon thee, le problems:
1. Macs don't support Odin. Chance are I won't be getting access to Windows anytime soon.
2. Even with Heimdall One-Click Unbrick, the program does not detect my phone in USB port. Both ports.
3. I have installed the driver from Kies 2.2.0 like, say, 5 times, still USB no response.
4. I heard something about a binary counter or something for the S5830i. Goes up for everytime you flash something with ODIN.
5. As with 4, i'm worried about battery life, since i haven't charged it in a week, and its probably just hanging by a thread. The phone does not seem to be charging when I plug in the power. If it flashes and quits halfway i'm pretty much screwed.
So, before I take back my phone (for the second time) to the Samsung Repair Shop feeling very paiseh, I'm am now considering the possibility of some kind soul uploading a fresh restore file, or another solution to the problem.
Thank you.

Try virtual box
Sent from my GT-S5830 using XDA
VirtualBox could not even detect my Kingston thumbdrive, which contained all the big repair files, so I decided go with VMware Fusion. This time, the VM detected the Thumbdrive, but not the S5830i in download mode. I made sure to download the latest version of kies, upgrade the drivers, then restart the VM, but still nothing. Even after putting the phone cable in place of the Kingston drive (Drive E), it still could not detect. All i get is "Hardware not properly installed" (along those lines) in the status bar on the bottom right.
Help pls! Thanks!

As mentioned, you're probably hard bricked, but there is hope!
Check at this thread, and be sure to go to the OP (Original Post): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1496360
Follow the instructions. And, if you are running Windows as your native OS on your computer, nevermind the part where it mentions installing the Windows VirtualBox.
Again follow the instructions, and you should be fine. Otherwise, send me a PM and I'll do whatever I can to help.
Yes, no virtual box needed!
I confirm, after some uses of the "resurrector" I have done that the virtual box is not needed when having a windows 7 computer, just reboot from ubuntu, in my case, to win 7 WITHOUT UNPLUGING the device worked fine (several times). A huge and welcomed simplification!!!! Then go Odin or Adb as you like. good luck.

Thanks for your confirmation there. But, what exactly do you mean boot from Ubuntu to Windows 7? Are you running dual operating systems on one computer? If that's the case, that's not a feature that the everyday user is going to use.
By the way, does anyone know if the resurrector software is compatible with Windows? If not, Windows users will have to set up a Linux VirtualBox.

By the way, does anyone know if the resurrector software is compatible with Windows? If not, Windows users will have to set up a Linux VirtualBox.

That's what I thought you meant. I think that's great that you partitioned your disk for dual operating systems.
But, to be perfectly honest, I really doubt that there are many users in this forum who have done that.
From what I've seen, most users run a dedicated OS and install a VirtualBox to meet their needs.
JTAG
It may need to be JTAG'd. This is basically a recovery for a hard bricked device. You will have to find a JTAG service to do it for you, because it is very hard to do and the equipment is very expensive.

Bricked S2

Was trying to go from GB 2.3.3 to OmniROM 4.4.4 on a friend’s S2 (GT I-9100).
I rooted using Framaroot (the first version, the latest wouldnt work), got root, checked with RootChecker. Then I tried to install CWM.
Spent hours trying, I wanted to do everything "on device" rather than use Heidal or ADB (use inux on my desktop), tried MobileOdin, but there was no "recovery" option, so tried ROM Manager using a guide ( http://luvis.se/tipstricks/root-and-install-kitkat-on-samsung-galaxy-s2-i9100-without-a-computer/ ), but kept failing cos of E signature verification, even though ROM Manager said it was installed.
I d spent hours and hours on the internet looking for how to install, seems its difficult because the device was GB.
So I tried MobileOdin again and just installed the "CWM-KitKatCompatible-i9100.zip" I downloaded from the above guide using the "install update.zip" option, I cancelled it when the warning came up about firmware can brick your device, but then hit "ok" (partly in frustration and partly cos I ve never bricked a device before as I m (USUALLY) always careful).
Now it just boots the the Samsung Galaxy S2 screen, then the screen goes blank after 10 seconds or so. Stupid, stupid me.
So can anyone help me recover it using ADB, Android Studio or maybe Heimdal or direct me to a guide on how to ? Everything I read uses Odin and assumes you can get into recovery. All that time trying to avoid connecting it to a pc and now I ve deffo got to.

Cant get into recovery but can get into download mode. Tried One-click Unbrick and it cant connect to device, which reminded me that when I connected it to my (Ubuntu) pc (before I bricked it) I got an error message saying it couldn’t mount Android device (I got rid of my S2 a couple of years ago but it always connected to my pc with no problems). Which seems to me like a real problem - how can I un-brick it if I cant connect via USB ?

First, I don't have any experience with ubuntu, so I would suggest connecting to a windows pc via usb, making sure you install the drivers for the s2, then download odin. Once you have odin setup, I would flash a stock rom .tar from sammobile.com. From there you can flash a kernel such as philz to gain root access, and then omni or other rom.

Heimdal on Ubuntu (or a Mac) will do the same job as Odin on Windows (and is more reliable), but I have this USB problem I mentioned above, so I m not sure anything is going to work if theres a problem with USB on the device (USB debugging was enabled). One-Click Unbrick cannot connect to it and nor can my pc.

Probably obvious, and you've maybe tried already, but will a different usb data cord work? And I would try a different pc just to rule it out.
Here is something to read as well about recovering from soft bricks. Hope it helps -

Mate, the only thing I can suggest is make sure you have drivers for the phone(although the message saying can't mount device indicates a problem like corrupted partitions or nand, rather than missing drivers), and try a different pc. The fact you can get into download mode at least suggests you can flash a kernel or something, but you need a connection to the pc to do that(as you already know). I hope someone else has some other ideas

I wont need drivers as Linux has drivers built into it - it works out of the box, no messing around installing them like with Windows.
I just gotta spend some time getting the firmware and finding instructions on doing it with Heimdall, theres so many versions of the S2 it makes finding the right software complex.
And I ve just got to hope there isnt a problem with the usb port on the device or I m really buggered

Lol, I forgot that on Samsung devices you have to press home as well as power and vol up for recovery, found this out while trying to fins out how to unbrick it !
It wouldnnt boot but it WOULD boot to recovery, CWM recovery !
So flashed a CM kernel then Omni and all is fine, OmniROM installed !
