[Q] Wired headset not working - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi.
I just bought Klipsch x7i headphones to use with my galaxy s3. I am aware the volume buttons do not work for android devices which is fine but I assumed everything else would work fine. This is not the case.
The headset (and mic) work perfectly when MAKING calls to others, but the headphones become disconnected when RECEIVING calls (headphone logo no longer shows), and I can no longer hear the other person or speak to them through the mic.
What's the deal? Are there any apps I can download to help or do I have to return these headphones? After searching for an answer I have found out that third party mics do not work for the s3 but what I don't understand is the fact that the headset/mic DOES work when MAKING calls but not RECEIVING them.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

OK. I've narrowed down the problem. The headset stops working when I press the middle button to receive calls. In other words, if I answer a call using the actual phone, the headset works fine. If I do press the middle button to receive a call, I can no longer hear the other person nor can they hear me through the headset.
I noticed the iphone 5 headset works exactly like the klipsch x7i and has the same problem for me. Does anyone use the iphone 5 headset with the galaxy s3? Does the headset work for you?

I recently bought the Nocs NS400 (iPhone version) and have exactly the same problem. Google Now is also not listening to my headset when I press and hold the middle button. Receiving a call via the middle button somehow mutes my mic for good (and for all eternity until you re-plug the headset). When I am in a call and connect the headset later on, it's not transferred to the headset mic.
I re-soldered the volume keys (added some resistors) to make them work with the S3 (woks fine now) and figured that the original headset is doing something different with the middle button: while the iPhone headset is just doing a short between mic and ground, the original headset is having 50 Ohms here. (maybe that's [part of] the problem)
Could you find out more about this odd behavior?

Headset problem / feature

Hi All
I have been told by o2 that the following is a feature:
When my XDA has an incoming call, with the headset plugged in, the 'ringing' only sounds from the headset instead of the speaker.
Is this a feature or a fault?
Comments gratefully received
I'd say bit of both.
I've had my headset plugged in and heard the ringtone through both the headset AND the unit itself, but perhaps there's a way of making it so that the headset is the only audio (perhaps plugging the jack in whilst on silent then turning it back up?).
I've definitely had the headset ring out whilst the jack is connected.
A
Feature or fault, that's a hard one to call!
I would say it working as designed, since the headset will always override the speaker in any fashion.
I've never heard of this. All the US units ring in BOTH if the headset is plugged in. Unfortunately, message notification and alarms sound only in the headset though.
Hi,
As far as I have found out the behavior is not consistent. My device sometimes only ring in the headset and sometimes ring both. I have found out if you plug in the headset and connect via USB cable to the PC it will always ring both in headset and speaker. This is true even after you have unplugged the USB. Seems to me some flag I set during USB connation that enables this... ?!
For notifications - this only works via the headset... for me at least.
I find this annoying - the SmartPhone works as it should in regards to this.
I run 4.00.05 baked at this site... keep up the good work !
I had this similiar feature/bug experience too.
My XDA rings both on the headset and its speaker. One day, at some point, I managed to put it into a strange state. I started playing an mp3 with the windows media player (WMP) without the handset, it played thru its speaker (that's correct). And then I plug in the headset, mp3 came out from only the headset (that's correct too).
After that, I pressed "stop" the mp3 in the WMP, and then "play" again, mp3 came out thru both the headset and its speaker.
I don't seem to be able to reproduce this "feature" anymore now. Well, of course, that's after a reboot a while later.
In fact, now I've got a question then. Does that mean the on/off of the speaker can be controlled in software? AFAIK, like the iPAQ, it's controlled in the hardware, that means if you plug in a headphone, the speaker of the unit will be off.
Does that mean the on/off of the speaker can be controlled in software?

Yes, evidenced by the phone behaviour. Most devices use a simple contact in the headset connector to disengage the speaker, but obviously not the PE.

I would rather ask it to be a user defined option. I believe the current setup (both ringing) came after noticing that you can simply forget your headset plugged in so you may miss some calls.
But in some situations (ex: meetings) I would like to keep the headset plugged in and get the rining only through it.

HT820 Headset cant make calls

Short press the MFR button (Multi Function Button with the Motorola Logo), speak name, and the phone will dial the call
did it work for any one ?
Wireless Stereo and Hands Free are both enabled . is ther any other requirement ?
it doesnt have a microphone so no, although it can activate calls on the phone.
what i used to do was pick the call up and talk into the phone, i just got the Nokia BH-501 headset which has a built in mic but i miss my extra hang up and connect call buttons from the HT820.
i can use it as a handsfree headset and can answer incoming calls , so it does have a mic
Its juz that i cant give voice command over bluetooth 4 some reason
yeah i know i noticed that as well except i dont think its the headset that does that just the phone that sees the command and puts the voice recon app into action.
the HT820's are good but not mic good.

[Q] Making Apple optimized headset mic work on Android?

Hi,
I just got my pair of UE600vi earbuds with a mic and in-line controller.
Everything works as expected (so no volume control), but what I didn't expect was that the built-in mic doesn't seem to work properly. When the cable is plugged in properly I get audio in a call, but the person on the other side of the line says he can't hear anything.. However, if I take the plug out a bit so that one black ring is out of the plug the mic seems to work,(probably because the mic is disabled and it uses the phone mic..) but I only get audio to one earbud.
I contacted Logitech which said that they can do nothing and that it's Android's problem.. However some people say that they've had no problems with apple-optimized headsets apart from the volume buttons.
Is there a way to force compatibility?

Same here, I've got a great sounding AKG K328 headset on an Asus Fonepad (Android 4.1.2). Everything is working fine, I can assign actions to the middle button, I can use the button to answer a call, but the microphone is not working at all
Judging from the symbol in the Status bar, the headset is only recognized as a headphone (without mic). The mic is working on an iphone, though.
Any ideas?

Very strange SGS3 headset problem

There goes my first pos heret:
Recently I have bought an international SGS3 branded by T-Mobile and it is currently running I9300XXBLFB (ICS 4.04). Some time before that I have also bought a Belkin headphone adapter. What it does is that it basically provides a microphone and a standard 3.5mm jack port for the headphones of your choice. It also has a small 3button Apple like remote (answering button and +/- loudness controls). Good idea for someone who loves his headphones, which don't come with a microphone. It also comes with a TRRS ending typical for Apple.
The adapter worked ok on my Samsung wave with a TRRS switch (loudness control of course didn't work at all, but answering did; loudness doesn't usually work on anything but iCrap). It also seemed to work on my SGS3 at first, but without the switch (TRRS layout is the same as in Apple).
When plugged in I get a notification that headset is recognized, when I make a call the microphone works, headphones work and the answering button is able to stop the phone call. When not in a phone call the answering button starts and stops the music player, so again kind of a standard behaviour.
Now the fun part starts when I answer a phone call with the answering button. The call gets picked up BUT the headphone icon at the notification disappears (behaves like the headphones would get unplugged) and the microphone in the headset doesn't work anymore. I also am not able to drop the call and after I drop it with the phone itself the music switch via the headset doesn't work. Detaching and attaching the headset via the 3.5mm port again gives the headset icon back.
I compared it with two other headsets: stock and Thermaltake Isurus headset.
Both of them behave correctly when I answer a phone call. Both remotes work correctly as well, I am able to pickup and drop calls and the headset icon stays where it should.
Anyone has any ideas what may be wrong with the Belkin headset adapter? Or why SGS3 behaves so strangely with this accessory in particular? Anyone encountered this before?

[Q] Klipsch S4i with GS3 - Calls cannot be received

Hi there,
I have used the Klipsch S4 headphones for a while now and decided to "upgrade" to the Klipsch S4i wired headset for convenience. It is actually designed for Apple products, but the middle button should still work.
The android version of this headset is 60ish% more expensive and has the same functionality (no volume buttons instead of dead volume buttons...).
I had read that not all functions would be available on my Samsung Galaxy S3 (Android 4.1.2), but I expected the problems to be restricted to the volume control buttons.
What does NOT work?
When I'm using the headset, I can use the headset's middle button to receive an incoming call, but as soon as the button has been pressed, the headset is pretty much not recognized by the phone any more: The call uses the phone's speaker and microphone.
Also, if I try to listen to music via the headset afterwards, that works only after unplugging and reconnecting the headset. The headset is dead after receiving a call with its button.
Things that DO WORK:
- Receiving the call by using the phone's touchscreen while using the headset - full functionality.
- Fully functional (button to hang up, mic and earbuds) when I'm making calls from my phone. So the problem exists only for incoming calls and when using that damn button.
- Using the button for play/pause, next track etc... (no volume control though) with spotify
What I have tried:
- Apps: JAYS Headset control, Philips headset control, Klipsch headset App, SoundAbout (Free version), Music volume EQ
Only one of these apps was installed at a time to prevent conflicts.
I would find it very convenient to use the button to receive calls and don't understand why that doesn't work. Can you help me?
That's why Klipsch made the S4A model (for Android phones)...

I have both, and yes S4i control buttons not work (unless you want to open it and exchange the resistor with cheap android headset). Quality of the sounds both same, the disadvantage only the buttons (S4A single button sucks, even install Klipsch app), the long press button config conflict with voice command (this why it sucks because I set long press to choose volume presets, anyone know solution for this?).
