No man, this ain't going to work like this. Nothing personal, but you can't be this lazy and ask for guides that are quite hard to miss on xda. Use search, and learn for yourself.
If you can't understand them, reconsider if you really want to start rooting and flashing.

I am not really an expert but flash phillz cwm6 in stock kernel and only flash that file don't !press format or wipe data factoryreset.
Now you are rooted/custom recovery.
next step is to look in the android development forum and download a ROM. Also download gapps from goo.im/gapps now copy them to external or internalsd.
Reboot to recovery and do factory reset
Now go to mounts and format system.
Now install zip the ROM and gapps reboot and youre done!
If you are stuck on boot screen or can't enter recovery then use Odin and download an kernel like siyah and flash it in Odin.
You can enter recovery by
volume up +home+power If the samsung screen show after3seconds release the power button but hold home and volume up.
You can enter download mode by volume down+home+power you also need to download Odin.1.85 and USB drivers hope this could help you and other people

First of all: very nice of you to tell OP this all, seriously. But what about this explanation is different from the guides? This could all be found with a simple search. In that case people don't have ask the same question all the time, and they make sure they understand what they're doing, instead of maybe bricking their phones..

true but if some op's dont knoe exactly what to search i want to help. got my s2 now for 2weeks or what and its completely different from my unbrickable lg optimus 2x
but i hope that my kind of guide which i made from my own information i know now could help somebody if its easy to read cause i typed it on my phone

[Q] Stuck after root.

Hello,
I've seen so many people having rooted phone, so I tried it by myself. The problem is after doing all the work using Odin 1.85 the phone is stuck at booting up process with the yellow triangle on (I know where the triangle comes from). I have tried flash the device and it didn't work either. The phone does not allow me to go into the recovery mode. I've tried to install the original ROM but without any changes.
Is there any way I can get it up without the service?
Get the rooted stock from the development forum. follow download directions.

So that means I have to go to the developers section in the forum, download the ROM and mount it using the Odin ?

Here's a direct link. Read completely. It will tell you exactly what to do:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18065445&postcount=1

This is probably a newbie question.....

I have an at&t s2 I777.....it is rooted one i guess (it was gifted)..
I want the ICS on it...and believe me i know nothing about how to get it....
i googled and found many people explaining the process for a windows PC version.
I have a mac and if some one would please care to explain (step-by-step is much appreciated)..i attach the present status of the I777...
Thanks....
Senior members will probably scream SEARCH at you 'til blue in the face, so I'll throw you a bone since I've been stalking for far too long.
This (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=878686) is a guide to Heimdall (basically Odin for Mac) find a kernal to flash (I started with Siyah http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19650906&postcount=1) and follow the Heimdall guide to flash to your GS2. Next you can download any ICS Rom (I've been using ShoStock2 since version 1.1) to your phone and flash the zip using CWM (there are a plethora of guides on this should you need it, so search.)
Check out my thread, no need for a computer to flash the update
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1722064
I would suggest you follow the guide linked in my signature. It has instructions for using heimdall with the mac.
Do *not* install Siyah 3.4 on your phone if you are running Gingerbread stock or modified firmware. You can not use an ICS kernel with a Gingerbread system.
If you have any questions or problems as you work through the guide, feel free to post your questions in that thread.
Edit: if you already have ClockworkMod Recovery on the phone, then you can just download the firmware distribution you want and flash it in recovery.

Do not say that we are not helpfull man!
Maybe no one that read your post has found a solution yet!!!
I actually stopped in this thread once ready to help this guy out but he mentions he is on froyo...
MY device came with Gingerbread, so rooting is as easy as user superoneclick (heck, there is a youtube video talking about how easy it is to root on the 5 but the 4 will be able to do the same). Sadly, advising this with this froyo uncertainty might have the potential of bricking the device, so I passed by this thread saying nothing. So I'll just do this...
Did you do a OTA update through your device's settings and check if there is a Firmware update? Once in Settings, go near the bottom and click the ABOUT button and click system updates - wifi is of course needed but wifi is everywhere even Mcdonalds for free. Update your rom accordingly to get to Gingerbread at least on the device. Then check this video -
www.youtube.com/watch?v=aA4bw8bU4T4
Once rooted, check this thread to choose your kernal and rom you want to flash -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1720457
I highly advise Ethereal rom [or Icy Fusion], and for the kernal Terrasilent [or Klin Rev 3] . Be sure to flash the Kernal FIRST not the rom so you can have recovery features in case things go wrong.
P.S. You probably got bypassed btw due to heavy focus is being brought towards other thread s like the ICS thread for 4.0 device or everyone has a thread they particular hang out in. Or it could be that these type of threads like yours pop up so often every month that the people here just glaze over the threads like these telling themselves why don't they do a search in google (like I searched "root samsung Galaxy Player 4" and my first link above is the first one that pops up in google, which is the video i referenced to root mine the first time) or check the All in one thread in the developers section of the Samsung Galaxy Player 4/5 forum (which I linked above as well). I don't mind helping though but that might be because I'm kinda still new here...

You can use Samsung's Kies to upgrade to the latest firmware.
However if you have rooted and modified some stuff, there might be a chance of getting your device bricked.
Also, make sure you have pressed Power+VolDown+Home key to get into flashing mode when you use odin.

Flash a rom from the correct section - i9305 and you are fine
Also, posting in the i9305 section for related questions, will make sure you are more likely to get the right responses
Do you have the international S3? If you do then just make sure you flash a Rom from that section and not a U.S. version Rom. Read over the different rom's features and what works/doesn't work and choose the rom that you like the most. Don't worry, we all were afraid of rooting/romming our phones at first. But you have to start somewhere. Good luck.

You need to start by reading and learning first . That lessons the risk of a brick considerably .

at last you should make a backup before flashing your first custom rom so heres step by step guide to make backup via cwm recovery
1.Get into recovery mode (cwm) by pressing volume up + power + home
2.Once in recovery mode scroll down to "backup and restore" using the volume keys to scroll and power button to select
3.Then select "Backup"
4.Let the phone make the backup (will take a couple of minutes)
5.Once you see "Backup is complete" the process is done and you can now reboot your phone
hit thanks if i helped
great step by step thanks is it harmless to keep root/cwm on phone for a while beforw cus rom? wont give me any bother will it?

[Q] Rooting SIII clearification

Dear everyone,
i am getting in the next days the samsung galaxy s3 and i would like to prepare myself about what i should do to root the phone (and save the EFS folder).
I had from a colleague a samsung galaxy s2 which lost the IMEI and EFS folder, that's why i know that is crucial to save all. Plus i excercised on it to root the phone.
On the SG S2 i routed the phone loading the "philz-touch_3.00_i9100-signed.zip" with the phone and then applying the "Root_SuperSU.0.98-Busybox.1.20.2-signed.zip".
Phone was magically simple rooted and as simple as that, could be again unrooted.
Now, I am checking what to do for the samsung galaxy s3, but it seems that the procedure is not so simple and riskless anymore.
I read almost everywhere that the procedure is the one found on this website http://techverse.net/root-samsung-galaxy-s3-android-4-3-jellybean/
The procedure descripted asks me to use odin and from my experience with SG S2, this is there for reflashing the phone, or better to put a new rom in it. So if i did not understand wrong, with that procedure i basically put a new rom that is rooted. Am i right?
this is not really a good solution for me, as the unroot would not work good anymore.
Searching then deeper in the xda forum, i find this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/orig-development/i93xx-philz-touch-t2002953
So this seems to be much more similar to the one i applied to my sg s2.
Now the question is, why if this is much more simple, is so less shown as a solution and result on google?
is that "philz_touch_xxx.zip" + "Root_SuperSU.0.98.Only-signed.zip" for rooting the SG S3 as easy as with the S2?
Sorry if this question might have been already posted and answered. i just could not find it in the forum.
Thank you in advance for your attention!

ok so basically i just have to press volume up, home, power on button, open the CMW in the sd ("philz_touch_xxx.zip"), then from there apply the zip file "Root_SuperSU.0.98.Only-signed.zip".
correct?
sorry that i ask over and over, but i cannot brick this phone
You can't install philz recovery from the stock recovery, you would need to flash the .tar version with odin -so you would be better to use CF autoroot as recommended in the sticky guides.

Now i have a question that might have been answered in those threads but i just did not see it (or i would not ask i promise):
If i let the samsung galaxy S3 android upgrade to the latest android version through the official tool KIES, and THEN i make the root, so i have the latest android version, is it possible? If yes, can i use the same tools indicated in http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/ref-understanding-basics-rooting-s3-gt-t2362743 ?

AWESOME!! so that means also that if would ever come out any future android upgrade, in order to upgrade officially i should unroot the device, restore the stock recovery, update via kies and then re-root again. I think i got the whole thing!!

I was checking on the samsung galaxy S2 (previous phone) the CMW installed. There, in backup and restore, there is "backup" "restore" "delete"....
is that backup the NANDROID backup? if so, why isn't that clear like idiot prove (like me ) ?
Okay. Flash cf auto root in odin. Just go download mode on ur fone, then connect it to the pc. Then just flash the cfautoroot file in odin. No nid for cwm. Flash cwm AFTER u flash cfautoroot in odin.

ok you wrote really nice, but i don't understand what i should do after connecting it to the pc. You wrote "then just flash the cfautoroot file in odin", but isn't it what you wrote me at the beginning?
Instead of asking people to write out exactly what you want to do, just go and follow the guide -they are provided for that reason to help new users safely root etc.
