[Q] recovery tasks problems - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Hi everybody !
Well since yesterday , my recovery is unable to do any task whitout going in bootloop (execpt flashing roms or restore a rom with no mod added by the user ) . I try several things ( reflash the ROM , downgrade the CWM recovery, format all the data and system and reflash another rom) but in the end the recovery is still corrupted . Anyone can help me please ?
Have a day everyone !

Give twrp a try.

Its does the same thing on TWP i tried that this morning but thanks for the advice

Odin back to stock and start over from scratch with a fresh download of the recovery you want to use, preferably a .tar that you can throw into Odin after you are on stock.

Thanks for the advice but how do you find the stock ROM and the stock recovery ?

Stock recovery is within the stock Rom .tar
Have a look in a sticky (threads always at the top) in the general or dev section or maybe even the top of this one.

[Q] question about firmware and rom

Hello,
well, i'm beginner in all the android custom stuff but yesterday, I wanted to try jelly bean on my galaxy tab 10.1 wifi version.
So I've installed a rom custom with this tuto androidauthority.com/galaxy-tab-10-1-wifi-p7510-paranoid-android-2-custom-rom-114133/
But i'm not satisfied with it and i want to go back on the previous version I had : official ICS.
So i've a question : are the firmware (download on sammobile for exemple) simply updates or complete ROM that we can install on our devices?
In both cases, i would like to find a way to get back an official rom...:crying:
Can you help me please?
First rule of Android modding. Always make a backup in recovery. If you had you could just boot to recovery and restore the backup. To answer your question the firmware downloads from sammobile are indeed fully stock roms. They are designed to be flashed with Odin (.tar.md5 files) flash them in Odin the same way you flashed a recovery, point to the .tar file with PDA slot in Odin.

Tanks for reply,
Actually, I did a backup before, like the tuto said, but when i want to restore, i've an error during the restauration of the data so it stop and don't restore.
And like you said, I've flashed the file from sammobile with Odin and the installation seems to work but when I reboot in normal mode, I'm stuck at the Samsung logo screen.
So do you know a way to reinstall proprely an official ICS ROM, even if I have to format my tablet?
thanks for help

After downgrading, it's a good idea to wipe data/factory reset from whatever recovery you have (stock or CWM). Factory reset may resolve this.
Note that the first boot after an installation is slow.. the logo screen stays around for several minutes if I remember right.

[Q] Help me please.. Galaxy s2 stuck on boot logo...

I am a newbie from Nepal. I dont have much knowledge of flashing. A week ago i tried to flash CMW recover while i was in resurrection remix JB rom. Till then i am not able to start my phone because it freezes at "Samsung Galaxy S2" logo... Now i dont know the CSC, PDA and kernel version of my mobile. So please help me solve my problem, how can i make it work?
Boot into recovery (Turn phone off. Then hold home/power/volume up) & do a wipe/factory reset. Or if you have a recent backup (or any backup) restore that from recovery. I've done this a couple of times over the past few mths when my phone has spontaneously bootlooped.
didnt help

I can boot into CWM recovery but the wipe/factory reset and cache deletion too would not help.. I dont have any backup and i am not able to access my external sd card too... so please can you help me now...
Boot into download mode (Phone off. Home, power, volume down) & flash a stock rom in Odin; go to Samfirmware or AndroidFirmwares.net & get a stock rom (or get the PC version of Checkfus). Flashing instructions here

Sorry i cant access my external sd card in CWM recovery and i dont know how to access internal memory of my phone since it can only boot into recovery and download mode...
In that case flash any stock rom you like. I gather you'll be going back to a custom rom pretty quickly in any case (?) so it doesn't matter. Whatever you do tho, do not flash a PIT.

All I can do is download a rom which is in zip format, but i know odin does not support .zip but it supports .tar, so how can i download rom in .tar, also does it matter if I flashed the rom which is not meant for my region?(I mean I dont know my phone's PDA and I am not able to decide which firmware to download since every firmware has its own specific PDA)... Yes, I'll be going back again to custom rom after I make it work...haha
AFAIK a rom for another country wont break your phone, but be careful with 4.0.4 roms because of the brickbug

go to http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3 and choose the stock or even another stock rom you wish, download it.
Boot into download mode and flash the single .tar file through odin, flashing instructions can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
PD: if the downloaded file is .zip and not .tar, just extract the zip and u'll get the .tar

Amm, now i have a android 4.0.4 firmware in odin supported format.. and i am about to flash using odin.. but i got confused what did you mean by "but be careful with 4.0.4 roms because of the brickbug".. Please explain me... And thankx in advance..
He means don't do a wipe/factory reset from recovery while you're running that kernel. Once you switch to a custom kernel you can relax tho.

Parameter is incorrect error can be caused by either of two reasons
1 . something is wrong with the file you downloaded try re downloading
2.Kies is interfering with Odin, terminate Kies from the background by using the task manager.

i tried going back to my original provider rom and got bricked.
i don't understand why ?
both are ICS ...
anyway i think i got now soft brick(?) i dont have access to CWM but i can go to DOWNLOAD MODE
and cant write to NAND .
i used odin to burn a kernel , but that is as far as it goes, i cant burn the ROM.
but vie odin i can write i think any kernel in PDA.
help me save my S2
If you can write kernel just flash Siyah and once done reboot into recovery and flash rom via zip file.
Simple.

there is progress!!
i tried doing the same thing i already did, expecting the same result..
but somehow the phone manged going into "android system recovery (3e)"
it looks like CWM menu but i cant install any of the ROMs i have on SDcard or siyah kernels i have there to.
i can do cache and system wipe, but what good would that be for me ?
it doesn't have any access to backup or restore options.. so i cant restore the back up i have.

That's what I was tryin' to say, you gotta keep on flashing.
here, flash this rom (Code, CSC & Modem via Odin).
here's the placing order:

when i flash kernel all OK !
but when i tried what you said ODIN failed after attempting to write to "NAND"
I think you have a corrupted nand... first try to flash a good pit file (remember to tick re-partition), and start by flashing a stock rom to the handset, does that not help, then you have a hardware failure

[Q] How can I backup/restore ENTIRE phone?

Hello.
I'd like to give MIUI a try, but, of course, I'd also like to switch back to my stock ROM if things go wrong or if I don't like MIUI.
How can I backup my entire phone (rooting, Recovery Mode capability and other on-power key-combination-activated features etc etc) and 100% failsafe restore it at any time?
Thanks in advance.
Rooted stock = do a nandroid (CWM) backup which is essentially an 'image' of the phone at the time you make the backup. Try MIUI; don't like it ? Restore the nandroid you took of your rooted stock setup. Sorted (You will need to ensure you backup the contents of your external SD card separately if you have one).
Be careful you don't 'overthink' this, it's really very simple both ways (backup/restore).
My Recovery Mode doesn't have a backup option

Thanks for prompt response. I took a look at current Recovery Mode menu and it doesn't include a backup/restore option like in http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/ClockworkMod_Recovery. It shows only the above:
Code:
Android system recovery <3e>
Volume up/down to move highlight;
power button to select.
reboot system now
apply update from external storage
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
apply update from cache
test redbend fota[FS]

I've already downloaded Recovery from clockworkmod.com but didn't do anything with it yet.
Sorry if it has already been detailed in another thread, but I didn't find it and I don't know how to make such nandroid backup.
Thanks.
OBackup
I've just downloaded OBackup app from Play store and am doing my backup.
My question is: after I flash MIUI, what are the tools/steps I'll need to restore my backup?
Thank you very much.
That's the stock Android recovery.
OK...
What you need to do is not install CWM separately. That will only persist until you reboot & is designed to allow you to flash whatever rom/kernel you want which will have it's own version of CWM baked into the kernel.
That backup program you're using; no idea as I've never used it.
What I recommend you do is find a custom kernel you like (actually, any custom kernel will do given you're going to flash Miui) which will have CWM. Flash that into your stock setup, then make a nandroid (CWM) backup of your stock setup so you can go back to it if you don't like Miui/whatever else you try (If you restored this & wanted to go back completely stock/unrooted/etc, all you'd need to do is flash a stock kernel). This is what you asked for in your OP. I warned you not to start overcomplicating things, and this is exactly what you're doing.
The kernel supplied with Miui should have CWM, so if you find you don't like it, you should be able to simply restore the backup you made of your stock setup in CWRecovery.
I also very strongly recommend you learn 'the basics' as you seem to be lacking in this knowledge. Flashing stuff/etc without knowing these things leads to busted phones. Read the tutorials/guides stickied near the top of the General section; there's a wealth of information in those.
Hi!
I've a similiar problem with my GT-i9100!
Can I do a restore of my stock ROM (that have android 4.1) if I've install a costum ROM like RootBox that have a different version of android (4.2.2)?

Hi and tnx for reply!
I've try to do a restore of my sock rom from recovery but it's says to me that there is an error on md5 check sum...
I've install the RootBox ROM in my gt-i9100...but I can't come back to sock from recovery because the stock kernel dosen't work with RootBox's Kernel...
so I've to use odin to flash the stock firmware.......at the origin, my idea didn't comprised use odin because of download mode counter (so that why I did a backup!)...but now I don't have any other way...!
...what a sad story.. XD

You can't restore your backup because of a different MD5 SUM which means that your backup has been corrupted.
Flashing a stock ROM or Kernel via ODIN will not increase your flash counter.
Flash NeatROM Lite, this is the best ROM ever, it like stock with additional things.

You want to change ROM to Stock, use Mobile Odin to flash a Stock ROM or Flash NeatROM v4.8 Lite.

[Q] Help please noob(ish) issues

Hi first of all thanks for reading, I need help, I have rooted my phone using Philz and then went onto flash a rom. First one I tried had no app store so reflashed over it, that one was unstable so now I'm on paranoid android 3.99 which I'm finding OK. The issue is I never made a backup when I put my first rom on of the original Samsung rom so now can't find how to put the original firmware on(I thought I had but turned out I did it wrong) I must say I did all this rooting and rom installing via sd and not odin. Am I right in thinking that all rom files are zip and you only have to unzip them to use odin? So the questions are..
1.do I have to change the kernel for each rom or do some come with a kernel in its file? ( assume some do as where it says kernel on my phone it no longer says philz)
2.can I recover the stock firmware and install via sd and not odin?
3.a back up in Cwm in suitable incase anything goes wrong?
Any help or shoves in the right direction will be highly appreciated
Thanks in advance
1 yes roms come with kernel
2 no stock only through mobile or PC Odin. But there is a thread on here that has stock roms in zip format that can be flash through recovery.
3 yes. It's a must before you start to flash any thing.
Efs? Have you heard of it? You need to bk this up now if not and also bk up you're custom rom you're on now and don't forget to bk up preload cuz if you don't the bk up won't work

I've not heard of efs, what is it? I've made a back up and loaded another Romans didn't like it and had no problem really installing the back up. I've tried to look for a stock room to load from sd but can't seem to find one, I even went on Sammy but they all say flash from odin.
