I recently bought a Sony Xperia U
It works perfect i love it however when it comes to music its a disaster i tried everything factor release, remove sim , battery , update software.. For some reason when i play my music on music player or any other media player for example MX player or Double twist after 3 minutes exactly of sound music it turns off like it crashes for few minutes it goes black and then it turns on and when it does i cant enter those media applications because they crash immediately..
I tried many experiments like trying with different songs.. different kbs.. but nothing seems to work.. however I tried to see if the issue is the music and its not... i played videos on youtube.... and even my own videos i even turned the radio on and it lasts how much you want it never switched off... This issue wasn't occuring on day 1 after day 1 it happened..
What can i do please help because i just bought it and i would love to find the issue before sending it again to the seller since i bought it from internet.. How can i hear my music on my player? Also whats the best way to transfer music from pc to mobille.. do i just put the music on the xperia u? because their isn't any music folder..
Sometime it crashes when i enter play store also or try to change my live wallpaper..
Thanks alot please reply
you could make a new folder called music and then drag-and-drop it with windows explorer. That is what I did with my xperia s.
I think there is something really wrong with your phone, it shouldn't act like that when playing music. Do you have the same result with other tasks? like playing video's?
I think that you should discuss it with the reseller.

Please help if anyone had anything similar or knows anything..
Hey everyone I've jumped over from the iPhone/Apple ecosystem so don't shoot me, but I'm really disappointed with this HTC Media Link HD. I've still got Airplay running side by side and these problems don't exist. I don't mean that to argue about Airplay and whatnot because neither companies are paying me royalties to argue for or against them. I just mention it because I can Airplay stream and mirror without a hitch so I don't want to fend off "your wireless network stinks" responses. I've got an Asus N66 and can sustain mbps back to my NAS/ESXi well beyond what this needs, and I can also stream non-hand braked blu rays without problem. I understand there is differences between streaming and mirroring, but also as I understand this should be a wireless direct connection.
Anyone having these problems:
1. Google Play (perhaps the latest version only) does not look to work with my Media Link. It will play one song and then stop as it tries to load the next song. Manually restarting the next song doesn't resolve I have to close and re-open. Spotify works fine.
2. Any flash I've tried to stream results in audio and video out of sync. I can mirror flash movies across airplay without this issue.
3. Audio cuts in and out in Spotify all the time. I can rarely get 2 songs to play in a row without chop. The cut outs are brief, but still very annoying.
Thanks for any help! Love the phone quite a bit, this is probably my first disappointment.
I have the same problem trying to stream google play music to media link. It only plays one song and it won't play any other songs until I disconnect from media link again - it works fine if its not connected to media link - but with media link only one song?

This issue exists with Google Play Movies as well. I tried contacting support about it a couple months ago with nothing ever coming from it. I was trying to play All Access via Play Music today and ran into the same problem. The songs will not even play when the Media Link HD is connected. I suspect this is some DRM related code put into all the Google media apps. I submitted a support email to Google as will attempt to get as far through to the real tech support people as I can to see if this incompatibility can be resolved. I urge you all to do the same. Stupid DRM...it ruins everything.
It won't play tv.com either, it will play cnn live broadcast, and vevo.
Hi folks,
I can't seem to get DLNA working on the Xperia Z2. Maybe I'm just stupid, but the only setting I've found for these things is "Throw" which searches for devices and only finds my TV.
I also have Sony network speakers NS510 and an OpenELEC XBMC media centre, which worked flawlessly with iPhone and AirPlay.
With the Xperia Z2 they don't show up when Throw looks for devices. I can get around the XBMC issue by using apps like XBMC constellation, Yatze etc, which allow me to "send to XBMC", but it's not integrated with music, photos and videos like the iPhone was.
The worst past however is that I cannot connect my Sony phone to my Sony speaker, because Sony app "Network Audio Remote" doesn't work on android kitkat and they haven't bothered to fix it for months.
Anyone know of a way to coax the phone to play nice with DLNA devices in the home network?
If you go in to settings if any if the Sony Media apps like Album, Walkman or Movies, it has a Media Sharing setting. Turn that on and it will start
Im trying to get music figured out on my Z2. Really its been the only thing bothering me. Since switching from the iPhone two years ago Ive been using Google Play music. I hate how it doesnt store music on the device though. I get it though, switch devices and its always there on the Google app. But if you dont have a data connection or dont want to use a ton of data its not good. I started doing the PIN to device but I still dont see any music locally. Ive bought songs and I want them on my device.
What is everyone using on the Z2? Walkman? Google? Or what? So far the Google music doesnt seem to wanna play nice but maybe that was just while it was trying to download my songs.
Well I think I might be a corner case here, but I use Google Play Music and sync my library with iTunes using iSyncr. It's paid, but for the most part it gets the job done and transfers album art plus the other metadata and updates my playcounts.
Call me a luddite or afraid of change, but most of my songs are in 320kbps and I enjoy the quality through good headphones. There's a few apps on the Play Store that can sync your current collection on iTunes to the device. I bought iSyncr a long time ago, not sure if there are better options available but it works for me.
Well, I used that Google guide for switching to Android back when I got my Nexus but it didnt seem to move all my music for some reason. I still have my iTunes collection so maybe I need to revisit syncing it again.
I used PowerAmp with my last phone but once you get used to the walkman app it's great. You can get better sound quality from its settings too.

I used to use ITunes, then with my Android devices I've always just manually stored all my music on my external microsd. Usually I use Poweramp but this being my first Sony device I'm starting to like the Walkman app!
I have a mac laptop and imac with 112Gb music collection on an external HDD and of course iTunes. I just make up playlists of 1) random songs, or 2) dedicated playlists or 3) collections of artists in a playlist (depending on what I'm wanting to listen to) and transfer them using Sony Bridge for Mac to the Walkman app. It's amazing the albums I've re discovered doing it that way e.g. Deadwing by Porcupine Tree, I hadn't listened to that album in years so I found my cd and imported it as apple lossless to walkman it sounds amazing through good headphones.
I find that set up works for me, as while it is importing I just go and make a cup of coffee. Besides, I quite enjoy making up playlists.
I use Google Play Music. Why not since they allow cloud storage of 20,000 songs and sync all your music purchased from Google Play?

None whatsoever. Bought music from Google Play and listened to some albums for about an hour.
I am on stock ROM with root.

Do you pin the music or just stream it all? I think I had issues the first day with the Z2 because of work wifi blocking and or causing issues downloading the music.

Stream only. I was on Wi-Fi but I don't think it would've posed a problem even if I were on data from my carrier.

Good to know thanks.
I have two questions in regard to the Music Unlimited app/function that is integrated with the Walkman.
1. While using the Walkman App, I am searching music (I'm a paid subscriber) within Music Unlimited. I am trying to download a song, not just simply add to my playlist, for playback while off-line. Does anyone know how to go about this? Do I have to download the actual stand-alone Music Unlimited app to have this "offline/download" playback feature? The attached screenshot does not show an option for "download".
2. The second question is when I do add a song to my playlist, how do I delete it once I no longer want it? The only way I was able to delete a song when saving it to my playlist via the Walkman app is to go directly to the Music Unlimited website on my PC, log on, and then delete song from my playlist. This is not cool, and it's unacceptable that I can add a song to a playlist via the Walkman/Music Unlimited app on my Xperia Z3 (D6616), but not have the option to delete it, without having to log on to a PC.
I also never found any purchase option, I would advise you to stick to a non manufacturer based store like GooglePlay Music, etc that way you have the same experience on any phone like when you upgrade/change models. You can still use Sony sound effects like Clear Audio+ in Google Music app.
I don't believe you can purchase/download through Music Unlimited. Sony chooses to make you pay for subscription rather than purchase and ditch subscription. From a sustainability perspective, its good business. I am a subscriber.

Any pros/cons versus Google Play Music? Well, putting downloads aside.

Music Unlimitd does allow for downloading for offline playback. This is allowed on the pc, as well as the official Sony Music Unlimited stand-alone app (avail in Google Play). But for some odd reason, the option is not available via the Walkman app. It really doesn't make sense since it's a Sony phone, with a Sony music player app, integrated with a Sony music service application.
I do have a subscription and am able to download songs for offline playback as mentioned earlier on the pc and through the actual stand-alone Music Unlimitd app.
In the walkman app you have to go to download the playlist.
Also make sure to go into settings and authorize your device for offline playback. This and the ability to mix playlist are the two things I miss from google music.

Just as calbrs said,
You need to add to a playlist then there is an option within the playlist to download for offline usage [emoji13]

Hey all, thanx for the tips! So I downloaded the song to a playlist and chose offline playback. It works! However, It will only play from the playlist. I was hoping I can put my whole library on random, and the downloaded song will play, but it appears as blacked out, and unable to playback, unless I play from the playlist. Suggestions?

Eventually I said screw it and went back to Google Play music. The walkman app kept deauthorizing my device for offline playback, and the UI just sucked.
Google play also gives out free albums every week, this week imagine Dragons/Gaurdians Mix Tape 1, both free. Also free music from new artists monthly.
Also Google play is better as a cross platform service. I use it on laptop, iPad and Z3.
Long term Sony's music service can't compete with iTunes, Google Music, Spotify etc. I'm sticking to Google.
