I am seriously considering getting the OG for my next phone. Only one thing worries me, and that is the development community. I have been burned before (HTC Vivid) by buying what looks like a great phone, only to get no support from the dev community. What are everyone's thoughts on this? Do you think the devs are going to come, or is the draw of the N4 too great?

Well, obviously the dev community is here to the extent that Team CodeFire has successfully unlocked the bootloader. There is also a modified stock ROM available (which I am happily using). We should also be expecting AOSP 4.2 pretty soon (heard rumors of possibly this Friday). While there aren't many ROM options at the moment, the dev community is definitely present and I believe it's only a matter of time before we start seeing more support.
I am seriously hoping that the N4 base is able to be easily ported over as mentioned. This would make this phone a Nexus 4 but with LTE and SD!!
Honestly though, I feel LG really has a nice UI on top compared to Sense and TouchWiz.
I am definitely watching with great interest. Would love to upgrade to the OG, even though my wife insists nothing is wrong with my Vivid. I have had it over a year. Isn't that reason enough to upgrade...

the best phone ever
Take this with a grain of salt: as in I hold no liability for this point of view.
The Captivate had identical hardware to the Nexus S and it *STILL* has a strong dev community. There is more that goes into that than just devs but, the similar hardware helps loads.
The phone despite have a very low number of devs still has an unlocked bootloader and I feel safe in saying the devs who are here are fairly high quality.
Even if we never attract a large number of devs/users the reality is we are in a beautiful spot compared to a lot of other devices right now.
It's also important to keep in mind our numbers can still grow big time. The more users we get, the more interested devs we get, the more we all benefit.
And being honest.. if you go play with the phone in store.. you probably will walk out with it... It's really, really, nice. I mean the other phones in store didn't hold a candle to it at bestbuy or at&t.

I did want to NOT like this phone - mainly because it's an LG. But it's stupidly fast and smooth. If we see AOSP 4.2 or CM 10.1 on this beast it will be unstoppable! :cyclops:
I was hell bent on getting the Note 2 for weeks; the day I went to get one, I walked out with the OG and I have no regrets. LGs UI is a welcome change and will tide me over until the custom roms show up.
You totally should get the phone as is. Even with no further dev support. You have root, unlocked bootloader, and the stock rom debloated with tether functionality restored.
There is nothing you can't do with the stock rom. And when Jellybean comes out from LG, it will be debloated again. So even if you don't want the nexus rom or cyanogenmod (you'd be crazy not too), it's the best phone out right now. Even better than the Nexus 4.

I was seriously wanting the Note II as well because the huge screen but this UI I feels MUCH better then TouchWiz and hardware wise it is an absolute beast. Not to say the Note II isn't fast but nothing is touching this device right now. This phone is screaming fast just imagine when it gets 4.1 or 4.2!
I just couldn't go for the Nexus 4 since it seriously lacks storage space. 8 or 16GB with no SD??? C'MON! Hell, I just installed The Bard's Tale and selected the HD pack and it took up 3.5GB on it's own. Missing LTE even further drives the nail down.
Unfortunately, most people outside of hardware geeks don't know how amazing this beast of a phone is. Then half the one who are hardware gurus are scared because its an LG. I convinced the guy next to me at work to pick up the Sprint version. He absolutely loves it too.
I would use the upgrade that I have on Att.. but the Dev community is very important to have... Only time will tell.. watching with great interest.

I was microscopically close to pulling the trigger on the SG3 when I decided last minute to get the OG. Never regretted it for a second and I'm still bone stock.
Looking to get this as well It's down to the N4 or this. Really want LTE. Badly. But don't want to get screwed over for dev community, but I highly doubt that will happen. AOSP ROMs are on their way, undoubtedly.
from what i was told with small modifications n4 roms will run just fine on the lgog also. so that opens up way more possibilities if that is true
This is definitely one of the best devices currently since it runs buttery smooth even on ICS. 4.1/2 or CM will make this device unbelievable.
Talked my brother into getting one. He ordered his optimus g today and it was back ordered (The s3 disappeared from amazon for att days ago, probably why.) so im gonna go out on a limb and assume we will get some more people working in here in the near future.

Agreed. It's almost like they just took AOSP & tweaked it juuuuuust a little bit. I actually like it.
Thanks for all of the great advice. I think you guys have me convinced. Friday is the day, if I can find it locally for $99.

Hello All,
Wanted to post about the process I went through that eventually landed me on The One. I read everything I could for the last three months about the two phones and wound up more confused then decided on which to upgrade to. I finally decided that I need to S**t or get off the pot, so I went with the S4 because:
1) I read more positive reviews about it's camera then the One's, and for me the smartphone is a Camera that I can make calls on, not the other way around.
2) I had never owned a Samsung phone and I wanted to check it out.
3) I was worried about the lack of updates from HTC when I had the Rezound. Though I am a member of Elevate, updates have been my biggest gripe with HTC and I didn't want to get stuck with another unsupported phone.
4) lack of SD card and removable battery on the One. Not deal breakers, but factors.
So, my wife, son and I got out hiking on Saturday and I took about 60 shots on the S4. They looked great on the phone, but TERRIBLE on the PC. I had hiked in the same park last year about the same time with my son and had taken a lot of the same shots on my Rezound so I found those and compared them...The Rezound shots were much better in many instances. So I decided to take the Rezound and S4 and make the settings the same. I then took about 35 comparison shots. Almost half the time, the Rezound shots were better. That really irritated me so I searched the web for comparison images (S4 & the One) and most of the time they were so close it didn't matter.
I had bought the One through Verizon's Edge program. I know it's not the smartest thing I ever did, but I did it and I'm cool with it. They exchanged the S4 for the One and I feel pretty good about it. If I want I can move up in a year to whatever is the hottest thing at that point. I lost my unlimited, but on my phone only and they gave me 6 gigs for the same cost of my unlimited. I've never gone over six gigs before, and I can tweak my usage a little so I never have to worry about that. Besides, my wife still has her unlimited and I can switch with her if I really miss it.
As soon as I made a call with the One, I knew it was the right choice. I'm glad I tried the S4 but I really didn't like it. It just didn't measure up in so many ways. TouchWiz is so cartoonish, I felt like I should be sitting at the kids table! The screen was awesome! But so is the One's, so I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything there.
I figured I would share the Experience here in the Rezound forum because it played such a big part in my deciding the S4 wasn't for me!
Peace People!
thanks for your take on the two phones. I am considering the S4 above the One right now coming from a Rezound currently. I would like to know more about pros/cons of both and decide then. Hearing about the picture quality of the S4 might be problematic, but I'd have to see other cases of the same problem to be convinced myself. Have you compared your S4 photos with those of others who have an S4 to see if they have the same problem?
When I was at the Verizon store they had a one and a s4 next to each other so it was easy to compare. I took photos on both and the one looked crisper and clearer. I don't know if its because I am use to sense but it felt smoother than touchwiz. Plus I like the feel of the one in my hand. I missed how the original moto droid felt in my hand from its all metal body. The s4 just didn't wow me and disappointed me in others. I am sure its a good phone but not for me. If you think HTC is weak in updates for their phone Samsung is far worse. Droid charge got like a few updates and that's it. Where as the thunderbolt went from froyo to GB to ICS. Sure it took awhile to get to ICS but at least it did get it. Sammy seems to just drop all support and just build a new phone knowing people will do the iphone effect of selling their old device for the new one.

Yeah, I love the way it feels too! I really didn't want to buy the S4 based on the in store comparison, but I was trusting reviews because I shoot a lot of nature and I couldn't simulate that in store. After using the One for a week, it is every bit as good as the S4 Camera wise and blows it away in almost every other respect... So glad I switched!

I have, it requires a java card. It's either shell out the money for one or pay/beg/get a favor from someone who has one.

I'm actually probably going with the S3 or S4. HTC One seems to be harder to find deals for with my credit. S3's are only $100 now, so this college student may snap at that.

The simplest answer is that it works so well...It's lightning quick already, so I don't need mods to eliminate lag. Everything does what is supposed to.
But the truth about flashing other Roms is that there is almost always some buggy element. I have only run a handful in three years that didn't. I rooted both my Incredible and Rezound because there were features out there that I couldn't get on those phones.I have everything I could want on the Stock One.
If I had a Nexus device, I would enjoy that experience, but I also would miss the TV app in Sense 5 and believe it or not, I am having a blast with Zoe and some of the other features of the Sense 5 Camera. It would require too many trade offs to go to Stock Android.
Having said that, I am a flashaholic, and I have flashed one Rom since the previous post. Frankly, battery wasn't as good, and the 4g signal wasn't consistent. And that was a Rom that was very close to Stock. I know I could reflash and do other things that might fix it, or I could just go back to Stock, which I did... I'll flash other Roms, my curiosity is too strong not to, but it's great to know that Stock is so rock solid to come back to!
How's the camera compared to rezound? Also how is the scrolling lag compared to the iPhone?
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
Lag? I know naught of you speak? Seriously, I don't have an iPhone so I can't compare it, but this thing blows my old Rezound out of the water, and it is every bit as fast as the S4 was.
As for the Camera, I love it. It does some things better then the Rezound (low light) and I have been able to crop with no problems. There's a learning curve but it didn't take long. I even have that purplish tint at times, but changing the iso usually makes it go away...

ill have my rezound as a dev phone till it crumples up and dies....but i plan on getting the One very shortly
I might be jumping ship to the One as well...I've been trying to talk myself into it for a few months but it seems like the universe is pushing for me to get it. I just got an invite to elevate yesterday.. later that night I was just switching to a different extended battery (I like to cycle through different ones to keep them happy) and poof reboot every 3 min. It happened all day today too. I finally got it to stop after uninstalling some recent apps and doing my magical "Rezound please don't reboot" dance/prayer/ritual.
I love my Rezound when it's working properly (I think I'm on my 7th), but I'm starting to see it as a warm heavy brick in my pants.
Sorry, I had some venting to do that no one I know in real life would understand. No tech savvy friends, I hear the occasional "Why don't you have an iPhone?" from them.
Sent from my warm heavy ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
I also want to thank all of the devs. Great job keeping it up to date. I switched to the Note 3 recently and it's badass. I was stuck between the One, G2 and the Note 3 but I definitely made the right choice. The One looks awesome but I love how big and powerful the Note 3 is. All my previous phones have been HTC but I think Samsung definitely won me over. It's been a pleasure my friends. Hope to see you guys around again. Snuzzo, Fly, Neo..you guys are awesome!
I would like to send my appreciation as well... I am on the verge of getting the HTC One. My phone has been freezing up recently and its not a software related crash, so I'm afraid I went in the Verizon store and was awe struck at the One... although I don't like the lack of a changeable battery or SD card, but damn its a nice phone. I was sold and am very close to buying one.
This would be the first time I haven't changed phones out of anger at my old phone. The Rezound really has impressive specs and impressive devs who build for it...this is the reason I have extended my usage on the Rezound for nearly a year now. Its too bad the Rezound wasn't better known. Its still generally fast and still has a great screen, I would dare say the best of its time.
I hope to see some Rezound devs on the One in the future. I know more than one has mentioned the plan to move on to the One.
It will be a somber bitter sweet day for me as i love my Rezound but I'm needing to move on if I keep having this issue.
I would also like to say a big thank you to our devs here. It's been a generally awesome device to own because of them. Specifically Neo for the numerous amazing ROMs he's given us, Snuzzo and IHateWebOS for their awesome kernels, Flyhalf for maintaining TWRP and, of course, Chad for being our AOSP savior! shrike1978 also gets a big thanks for the writeup on how to build CM. Without that I guarantee I never would have compiled a ROM myself.
The guys working hard in the AOSP Dev thread to get us a stable 4.4 ROM also get a shout out.
The unlimited.io guys also get a MASSIVE thanks for their S-OFF tool Juopunutbear. The process was just badass lol. Never would've thought when I got the phone and saw those pins that they would be so important down the road. I think that's kind of what made owning this device awesome as well; the fact that you had to put in some effort to get S-OFF made it feel more like an accomplishment, like you've earned it. With the Nexus 5 (the device I'll be switching to when it finally decides to ship/arrive) it'll just be as simple as "fastboot oem unlock" and it's fully unlocked. There's no sense of achievement or anything doing that! Lol I'm definitely not saying I wish it was harder or anything, just that it won't be the same.
I would also like to thank the community for always supporting and being polite to our developers, as well as always being willing to help one another. I think the fact that we have one thread with over 500 posts in it with people just helping each other speaks for how awesome you guys are.
It's been a long road for us Rezound owners, and it makes me a bit sad to think about moving on to a different device, with a different community. I can only hope that the Nexus 5 community will be half as good as this one.
Hope to see you guys over there with me.

While I did just jump to an LG G2, I won't be going anywhere anytime soon. I've invested way too much time and effort on this phone to walk away from it. Not to mention the Mrs. has a rezound and the G2 is an officially supported device, so there's really no challenge to it.
The good news is now I have a dev phone, so I don't have to worry about getting it back to a working state when I'm working on it.
Well I did it. I got the One. I had to pay full retail price for it otherwise I cant keep my unlimited data... and considering that I've used 11Gb so far, that was not an option.
I am impressed with it as I was impressed with the Rezound when I got it.
This community has been amazing. This was the first phone I ever flashed anything too. Considering now the Rezound is a spare/play phone, maybe I will try some developing for it. I know I wont be able to match the great devs here, but I figured I could try my hand at it. Especially now this is not my main phone I need to rely on.
So once again a big thanks for the additional life that some great people have given to the Rezound. A truly great place to be. Now I just need to try to get my Paypal back so I can show some appreciation monetarily to some people.

Thanks to you, too, for your work. Enjoyed running the great variety of ROMs on my Rezound, including yours. Getting ready myself to jump off to an HTC One (how can you argue with a $29.99 price point?) and probably stay stock unrooted for a bit.
It's been a great group here with Nils, Neo, Broken, Snuzzo and many others too numerous to mention who made my Rezound so much more functional only a few weeks after I first got it more than 2 years ago.

After 2 years I retired my Rezound and purchased a Galaxy S4. I was also able to keep my unlimited data which the possible loss of made me keep the Rezound longer than I wanted to. I started to wait for the Galaxy S5 but I got such a good deal on the S4, which was free at BB after 50.00 gift card I took advantage. hey all,
Its actually a sad day for me. My rezound finally totally kicked the bucket and i no long have a deving device. So after some thought, i desided that I will no longer be doing deveolopment for the Rezound. Its been a fun ride while it lasted, but with family, work, and other things going on, my time has been spread very thin. I hope you all continue to enjoy the rezzy and i hope ill run into some of the rezound community on another part of the forums.
If anyone is wondering, I went with the LG G2 and if i ever find some time again to dev, it will be for that device
Thanks everyone for your support, and contributions that made developing the rezound so much fun. Also thanks to all the other dev that help me get started with ROM development

How do you like the G2? I love the front with the beautiful screen and tiny bezels...just wasn't sure how I felt about the buttons on the back...

Every phone should have buttons on the back... Why manufacturers didn't implement this before is beyond me, once you have it a while you will see how natural it feels to have them there. Plus with knock on/off you only use volume buttons, I rarely ever even touch the power button.

Hey, its takes a little getting use to, but overall i love it. I notice for the most part i dont use the buttons on the back. It has the knock on and knock off feature which is implemented really nice. so 95% if the time i use that. The only time i really use the buttons, is when i need to adjust the volumes. Other then that, the phone has been rock solid, fast, great battery life. My only complaint is the speakers are not the best and not super loud, the rezzy smokes it any day, but overall, the best phone ive had in a long time, including the rezzy.

The few upgrades in the S5 were not worth spending a couple hundred dollars more.

You know, i was real disappointed when the finally released the specs on the s5. Made some small improvement, but not enough to justify the wait or the extra money. Personally I tell people to go with the s4 unless the s5 has a feature that the must have.
Sold my last Rezound yesterday... was a mixed bag of feelings, I loved working with it, everything I learned over the years, and the community, yet I really love my new devices.

What device did you get again? Not sure what I'll be doing. We may jump ship. I can't afford VZW anymore. We have 4 lines on the old 1400 minute plan each of us with $30 data and we're up to nearly $300/month. If we switch to Share Everything, it would be even more. But if we don't, trying to decide between the G2 and the One Max. Why are we such slaves to technology?

My personal phone is a Nexus 4 on Aio Wireless, works great and I save a ton of money every month. If I had to get a phone today it would be the Moto G, my son has one and the battery life is ridiculous, 7 hours screen on time for web browsing and basic use and it out performs the Rezound in all aspects except camera.

Looks like the Moto G is 3G only. I'm considering the Nexus 5 if we go to T-Mobile. Also considering AIO as well. If we can't finance our phones with T-Mobile, then there no reason not to go with an MVNO, right?
