So I have been on AOSP ROMs for a while now, but I got bored and decided to try out a TW ROM. I didn't like it, and flashed back to a Carbon ROM nightly. Upon boot I didn't have signal at all, and it kept hanging at the "Waiting for Network, Activation can take a few minutes" screen. So i booted into recovery and restored a nandroid of Liquid Smooth 3.0 beta. Same issue (even though its a nandroid, which confuses me....
So now I can't boot into any ROM... gonna try flashing a 4.2 based rom and hope that fixes things but i'm really worried, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have fixed this issue.
I flashed the latest cm nightly again WITHOUT THE SIM CARD INSERTED TO THE DEVICE. Went into settings > more... > mobile networks > changed CDMA subscription to NV. Reboot phone with the Sim in the phone now. Go back to mobile networks. If it hasn't changed back to RUIM/SIM subscription do so now. Reboot again. Device should be working again.
For me messages came I'm after changing back to RUIM/Sim but I had no signal reported. Rebooting brought that back.
Hope this helps someone.-----Pulled this from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2442482

Thank you so much!
Followed those steps, (except it was with a stable Carbon 1.8 build instead of CM), and it worked like a charm. I'll be thanking the person on the original thread as well.

Hi all. I recently got an Galaxy S2 (SGH-I777) and am using it on Straight Talk (with their AT&T SIM card). I've been testing out a few different ROMs to see which one I like the best. I've tried older GB ROMs like UnNamed and newer ICS ROMs like SHOStock2 and MIUI v4...and they've all worked fine so far. Last night, I wanted to try out AOKP. At the time, Build 4.21.2012 was the latest...I see there's now a Build 34 but I won't be able to try that until after work.
Anyway, I went to Settings > More... > Mobile networks > Access Point Names to add a new APN for Straight Talk service. Usually there's a couple default APNs already there, but my list was blank so I didn't have to delete anything. I then went to Menu > New APN, added the info, and finally hit Menu > Save. However, nothing was added to the list so I can't select an APN afterward. I tried multiple times but the list always stays empty. I tried reflashing the ROM but that didn't make any difference either.
AOKP is the only ROM I'm experiencing this on. I went back and flashed SHOStock2 and could add a new APN without any problems. Whenever I flash a new ROM, I always do...Reset data, Wipe cache, Wipe dalvik cache, and Format /system first.
If anyone has any suggestions, it would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Try flashing a new modem first--I've never had this problem with AOKP.
I change my apns everytime a flash aokp.

I'll give that a try later. Since this is AOKP, do I have to use one of the Modems For CM7&9/MIUI ROMs from here? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1336958

This is my first time ever flashing AOKP, so I assumed I would have to anyway because I reset the data. I tried to add a new APN, but after I save it the list is blank. Since the list is always blank, I can't ever select an APN...its weird.
Do you know where the APN info is stored? I'm curious if it's just like an .xml file that I could then modify using root explorer or something.

question task...i'm starting to get into apn's...why do you change it after you flash a aokp?
I finally got this working....looks like all I had to do was reboot.
So I flashed Build 34 and had the same problem...every time I try to add an APN, nothing shows up in the list. I tried it about 5 times but nothing worked. I rebooted...I meant to go into recovery but accidentally did just a normal reboot. After it loaded up, I checked the APN settings...and sure enough all 5 APNs I added showed up as well as the default AT&T APN.
I'm not sure what happened, but all is working well now.

The fact that this thread had to be started in the first place is beyond me. I had the same problem OP had, when the rom booted up I had no data connection. No apns listed in apn list. But before posting a question about it or jumping to a conclusion, I rebooted. And of course it worked. Because this forum isnt about hand holding, although we do help each other out and have a great fun time. But in the end, we should all be trying to fix as many of our own problems as we can. Give a man a fish and he eats for a day.....teach him to fish.....anyway point is we need to get our own hands dirty peeplz. Don't rely solely on these awesome devs and mods to givez u magic. Hi,
We have 2 Vibrant phones. 1 is on Paranoid Android 2.54 (via stock eclair, ICS Passion, Slim Bean 2.9 & 3.0) and works perfectly.
The second one was on ICS Passion for a long time and I have finally got around to (trying LOL) to update it.
Here is where the weirdness begins - Flashed PA 2.54 no problems, flashed and booted up, but no wi-fi, well no wi-fi icon, and it can find a couple of wi-fi networks belonging to my neighbours, but won't find my network, 2 rooms away. The network is obviously all good, I am sending this from my laptop through said network.
Obviously I need an internet connection to get through the phone setup, so I power down, throw the SIM back in and boot up only to find no cell data either.
Skip the google account setup and get to the home screen to check things further and I find:
Calls in/out work, and most things are running, but wi-fi won't co-operate, and nothing in the APN list? Baseband and IMEI all look normal, too.
Try to flash Slim Bean 2.9 as I put the zip on the phone at the same time as a fallback and I get EXACTLY the same thing...
Anyone able to shed any light on what would cause this? Anything else worth trying? I'd like to avoid Odin as it honestly scares me reading all the problems people on here have with it...
At this point I've tried flashing both ROMs a few times with exactly the same results, I also can't go back to the ICS nandroid as the partition setup has changed and the restore doesn't work...
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give.
Cheers...
I ended up flashing a 4.2 ROM (slim 4.2 beta 1) and it made the problem go away, I'm guessing something in the 4.1 base was broken and not getting overwritten on new installs?
ROM seems pretty sorted for a beta, few minor things not working, but hopefully it gives us a clean upgrade path...
Thanks.
I had the same issue with Slim 4.2 Beta 2. If anyone has a solution other than flashing the modem, please post.
Weird. The phone I was having this problem with now has that ROM on it and is working 100%.
I have a suspicion that flashing a ROM that uses a different kernel is what fixed it for us. I guess it just overwrites/replaces more stuff?
Maybe try hellybean 4.2 and see if it makes a difference, and if it does flash back to slim 4.2 and see if the problem comes back?
I have installed slim and other ROMs but not had this issue. Currently on jellybam

The weird part is that every other Slim Bean has worked great. I'll keep my fingers crossed for beta 3.
Ok so ive been running Hyperdrive for a while now without any problem. Today I decided to try Carbon. After flahing and booting I noticed that I had a little white triangle over my signal bars and a roaming notification in my pull down. At this point I have no signal only wifi. Tried restoring both of my nandroids but they boot up with the same problem.. Anyone know how this can be fixed?

So, do you still have IMEI in your "about phone" settings? Or all they all zeros or unknowns? Carbon 4.2 or 4.3? You didn't include enough information for me to really be helpful. but, to me it sounds like you lost your IMEI and thus cannot get a signal or APN.
I think it was carbon 4.2. Sorry not a 100% sure though. I've since then oden the me7 update but unfortunately it didnt fix the problem. Oh and yes theres a long number there its not all zeros or unknown

I too am having this issue. Also from flashing Carbon rom 20130909-0127-jfltevzw.
What I have tried. (with data wipes in between)
Flashing another AOSP rom (CM 10.2 to be exact, latest nightly)
Flashing TW rom
Odin back to stock
Restored TW stock backup
A friends sim card to see if my sim had fried.
My phone as well reports an IMEI and a phone number. I dealt with the S3 issue a few times and the factory format dialer code always worked for me.
Took the phone to a Samsung booth at my local best buy. The guy there (believe it or not) was not an idiot. His phone was running CM as well. He attempted to force the latest update through and he said that his SMART (Samsung Multi something something tool) failed to recognize my device. He said he was able to tell it was flashed at some point (although i feel like this part was BS) and he was able to tell me that some config file or identifier file was missing/corrupt from the device. He recommended a Verizon insurance claim. He said that the SMART software (which according to him is basically a frontend for ODIN) could not identify what device was plugged in.
I investigated the install script for the rom and it appeared normal. I didn't notice any line that modified anything outside of /system.
I cannot apply the update the my phone grabs. I am still on MDK. The update will begin to flash and get about 2/3 done then fail (I believe it says verified failed) and then reports a error code 402 back to the OS once it reboots.
IMEI is present and valid. ERI is 5. PRL is 15233. Phone number is present and valid. IMEISV is 00.
Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated.

Pretty sure I'm having the same issue. I updated from an older carbon nightly to the latest and now my device won't activate in any ROM.

I flashed the latest cm nightly again WITHOUT THE SIM CARD INSERTED TO THE DEVICE. Went into settings > more... > mobile networks > changed CDMA subscription to NV. Thank you so much, this worked like a charm for me, except i used a Carbon stable release instead of CM
Last week I was using NOS M7 v3.0.6 and everything was working great but me being a flasaholic, I wanted to try out a 4.3 Rom so I flashed SlimBean DLX 4.3 and it would not connect to 4G. I used it for about 2 days and tried changing the preferred network and rebooting but still didn't work. I then did a full wipe and flashed ParanoidAndroid v3.99 and still no 4G. I then tried crDroid AOSP after a full wipe and still same results. I then decided to go back to NOS to see if it would correct it but it didn't so I even went to Tranquil's 4.1.2 Rom which is what I am on now but still have no 4G. Anyone have any suggestions for me?
I am considering taking it back to 100% stock and see if it works.
Also...my wife's rooted Galaxy SIII connects to 4G in the same area with no problems.

Its a known issue on some 4.3 roms, you must do a RUU but do not forget after Ruu a Phone Reset is obligated , so all your
factory original settings will be back.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2293919&highlight=flash+radio
I had this issue before, check out my thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2338810
No issues since.
I'm running the NOS GPE 1.0.3 rom, and ever since, I too have only been able to connect to 3G...until like 20 minutes before this post. This worked for me.
Go to phone, dial *#*#4636#*#* and go to Phone settings, scroll down and set the preferred type to LTE/CDMA. Go to settings, "More" under network settings, go to mobile networks, turn off data and change the CDMA subscription to NV, then restart your phone. After I did that, after unlocking my phone, it tried to activate but it was stuck roaming, from there I pulled down the notifications and went to settings from there and went back to Mobile Networks and changed the network type to CDMA/LTE/EvDo and restarted my phone again, now LTE works perfectly Only thing is, it seems to always be on 3 bars of LTE, no matter what, but I'm not complaining, its much faster than 3G.
Ok, thanks for all the help. After flashing the RUU and upgrading to 2.06 it still wouldn't connect to 4g. I then went to a Verizon store and swapped out the sim card and it still didn't work but after about an hour it all of the sudden it connected to 4g. So, I guess it was the sim card and it just took a while to connect. Thanks again.
If my Droid Incredible 4G LTE is connected to Wifi, it disconnects from Cellular Data. When I leave where ever it is connected to WifI, it won't connect back to cellular data. I have to turn off Wifi, then reboot the phone. I haven't tried something like switching to Airplane mode, I will try that. Has anybody else seen this issue? The phone is on Straight Talk Veriozon network, so is using SIM card for 4G LTE and CDMA for voice.
Are you stock?
No. Probably would help to mention that. S-OFF, partitions swapped and rooted CM 1.2.1 FWIW, this was happening with CM 11.2 before the partition swap. It wasn't happening before I did S-OFF and flashed CM 11.2 but I was also living in a different location for several months. It didn't start until I moved to where I am now.
I would try to do a clean reflash and see what happens.
I will think about that but I did a clean install when I did the partition swap and flashed the new ROM. I'd rather not do that again and have to set the phone back up again.
Today it seems to be better, I moved from Wifi to out and about and it switched to LTE properly.

I may have to try the reflash after all. The problem's gotten worse and now as of yesterday and today a reboot of the phone isn't getting me cellular data back. This did not start until we moved to a temporary place where I get voice service but not data at home. So the phone spends a lot of time on Wifi and not in a place where it can get data. So I'm wondering if the Verizon network is somehow forgetting about the phone or somesuch. At my old house, it was connected to Wifi but the data network was always available. The phone is S-Off with a custom bootloader and recovery. Assuming I wanted to try, can I put the stock ROM back on it without undoing all that?

That part I understand. What I should have asked was "if I want to go back to the stock ROM, do I need to undo the custom recovery, relock the bootloader, go S-ON, etc? Any other ROMS besides CM I might try? That could tell me if it is the ROM or not but, again I did not have this issue until I moved to an area where I can get voice, but no data.
You should be able to remain s-off. here are the stock packages if you don't have them, http://android.cmphys.com/stock-fireball/

Thanks. I will grab a stock ROM. I really like CM 12.1 (and the swapped partitions) though. I was able to get the phone back to cellular data this morning while I was on a chat with Straight Talk. Why a reboot worked then but not the 3 other times I have no idea. I'm also wondering what happens the next time this happens if I go into APN settings and change it to one that doesn't work, then change it back.
Over looking at the stock ROM downloads I see a link to this patch:
http://review.cyanogenmod.org/#/c/93484/
The ROM I am running now was built on 05/26. I see a newer CM 12.1 ROM dated 06/12 that contains that patch so I will flash that ROM, probably next week. I'm on call this weekend and don't want to risk bricking the phone.
I'm running the 6/12 build and it seems happy. I only run my Fireball on WIFI since I switched to AT&T and have a Nexus 5 for my primary.

Ive thought about getting a new phone on a GSM network but where we are building our house I can't get a ATT signal there, so I'm stuck with Verizon.
