Does anyone have poor reception on their s4? The longer I have this phone, the more I realize the awful reception it gets. When I compare side by side with my htc rezound, there is usually a 12-18db difference between the two. My s4 really sees anything better than -88 to 85db and is usually around -100 while the htc is more often in the 70-75 range. I suppose this could explain the poor 4g speeds (6-10mbps) I get compared to the 20-40+ I'm used to. Just wanted to see what you guys get. Maybe I have weak antenna in my particular device but I doubt it considering samsungs history with bad reception. Thanks for reading

Are you using an app like cdma field test or Advanced Signal Status to view the signal between both phones. In the same locations? It will give you the decibels for data and voice.
I Personally haven't seen it to have poor reception. But haven't done alot of comparison with other phones. Have had a Motorola side by side and the s4 was pretty even with it. I thought. Hope those apps help you to see if it really is worse.

I haven't really used any apps. Just going by what Android is reporting in the about phone menu. I'm going to make my phone micro sim to sim adapter later and use my rezound for a couple days and see what happens. I'll check out those apps as well thanks

I'm curious about your findings because I currently have an HTC Rezound and have thought about getting the S4, but I've heard of some reception problems.
Don't get me wrong, it's a great phone. But I've wanted to smash it more than once because Internet didn't work in areas it worked fine on my rez

My problem isn't internet connectivity, but dropped calls. When I get home, there will be a Razr Maxx HD waiting for me to try for 5 days.

So after rooting and messing around with different roms and such, I installed an app called network that has been mentioned on here, to see about switching to 3G easily while at work.
Well I started noticing that the phone couldn't keep a 4G signal at all anymore, but didn't put 2 and 2 together because of some of the other stuff I had done, mainly flashing through 3 different roms in 45 mins.
Well I unrooted my phone, and got it exchanged today because of some terrible back light bleeding, that thankfully my new phone doesn't have, and rerooted the phone, restored all my apps on Mik Rom, and BAM, 4G goes screwy out of nowhere. So I looked through everything and the only networking type app I had was Network. I uninstalled it, and now instead of 998 ping and .5 d/l speeds I am averaging somewhere near 14 down and 71 ping.
Only change was that app. Anyone else have this issue after installing that app? Or if you are having 4G issues, and have this app, UNINSTALL IT!
just thought I'd throw it out there, considering it was making me really mad.
Just tested it myself and it's all good here.

Did you make changes in the network app?
The app is designed to DISABLE 4g. So if you made changes then yeah you would lose 4g.
Im sure this isnt the case, but wanted to mention it just in case.
I use mine to disable 4g since im not in a 4g Area but it works fine this way. But then again my 4g cant go screwy because it doesn't exist.

Hmmm... I notice your speedtest app actually showing an accurate upload (compared to the double digits people used to post. Is this an updated version? Speedtest had acknowledged inaccurate reporting on the TB.
Are these two things still an issue? I still have my e3d sitting on my desk just waiting for things to get better. When I had the phone I would drop calls, roam and people would complain abbout the call quality on the other end.
I haven't used the phone in a few weeks so I was hoping that maybe an update had dropped kinda the same way Motorola updated the photon for silent calls. Someone give me some good news

Go back to the photon forums and stop trolling our threads. We get it! The photon never drops your calls and you have an angry boss blah blah blah blah.
I'm sick of you guys!

Apparently you can't read numbnuts I asked a question but by your reaction I guess I have found the answer. I love the 3d but I have a job where I can't afford to drop calls and I just wanted to know if it was fixed. Thanks for crying about it though
Sent from my MB855 using Tapatalk
Have had my 3d for about 3 weeks now and I have no issues at all with call drops or reception quality. I love everything about my 3d except that we have no aosp yet ... but we will soon =D
Call quality is absolute garbage on my phone.
I set mine to evrc-b.. sounds excellent on calls. Even better if the other caller has it on.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda premium
I can understand the people on the other end..and due to our conversations i can only assume they can understand me as well...So it seems to be a non issue..But if you are looking for some sort of FLAC reception quality to enjoy a phone call you may wan't to look else where.
as for dropped calls etc... I drive all over Florida for work and can hold a signal/phone call from Jacksonville to Orlando..I do it every tuesday and friday.
Compared to the Hero I had before the 3D the call quality sux. It's the speaker. that just sounds like crap. My wife still had a Hero so I used them side by side.
The Hero sounded much clearer than the 3D at pretty much all volumes.
Also, The 3D won't go near as loud as the Hero. I use the alarms almost everyday for one thing or another. Using the same ringtone and same notification tone the Hero is easily twice as loud at the 3D.
Coming from the OG evo I can totally tell the difference, man did I love that old phone. I am just hoping it's a software issue and not poor hardware. I love my 3d and am holding onto it in hopes that a fix comes
Sent from my MB855 using Tapatalk
Its not software it is most definitely hardware..as for the volume of the external speaker,it is easily fixed multiple ways.I personally use equalizer from the market it works great.Sound quality is still crap but its louder crap and it helps so I'm happy.

I'm in San Antonio and I've been looking at 1X for the last 12 hours. Is there a problem or is it just me?

Just you! Try a reboot. If that doesn't fix it pull the battery for 30 seconds. Works for me in that situation.

It's only happened to me a couple of times. Seems to be when I'm in a dead zone for a few hours. I've been turning off mobile data when I'm in those places. Hopefully that bug is fixed with the upcoming OTA.

How much data do you use?
I am asking because I have a phone that pulls crap like that all the time. I am on my 2nd phone due to this issue.
Thanks

Ever think it has something to do with the network in your area?
Sent from my HTC Rezound via Tapatalk
I don't think so, but if it was, Well AT&T looks nice. I called tech over and over and they all said network was fine in my "area".
It could be due to useing 20-30GB every time, but I used 22GB on AT&T's unlimited plan and never had this happen.

This month I'll use over 50gb, last month 15gb and averaged about 3gb per month over the last 4 years. I'm unlimited with a hotspot. It almost seems like I'm being throttled. That's BS if that's the case since I pay about $70+ a month for Internet on two phones.
KORM via the beast known as the Rezound.
Forgot to add it usually hit speeds between 8-12gb but this month I'm seeing a lot of 3-5gb and a lot of dropped signal. Haven't had that problem before at least not like this. Curious to see what happens as soon as I start my next pay cycle.

Does anyone else have this issue and if so what do I do about it. I have tried everything and there seems to be that border around my screen. I had even taken apartment my spen to make it more sensitive and it hasn't worked. I am open to any ideas...

Is this on all screens and not just the test screen? What have you recently done to your phone?
Don't quote, reply. If you quote, edit.
Yeah its on all screens when I have the spen on that area of the screen the onscreen icon bounces alk over the place like I have tremors in my hands. Since I acquired this unit from eBay I have no idea of its history but I can assure you that I have not done anything to this unit. If I had gotten this unit from a carrier I would have a plane on it and have it exchanged it by now but I don't have that luxury. The only other thing can think of is to replace the entire screen unit but that is not worth the price since I got a really good deal on the entire unit. If I was to go that route I might as well replace the entire unit for the price I paid for it ya know?

Well, I'm thinking you should flash the correct stock rom. Whether you want the latest Jelly Bean or the previous Ice Cream Sandwich is a personal choice, but make it 100% stock to erase any previous work.
If that clears up your issue, good. If not, then you know its the hardware.
Did you try another pen from another phone or tablet?
I am thinking its a hardware problem cause I am running stock and it has persisted from ICS and I bought an spend for a note 10 cause I wanted something bigger, insert joke here, and the issue is still there. Unfortunaly for me, I no longer have the funds to acquire a new display kit so I guess I am gonna have to live with the issue... Thank you for your ideas I do appreciate it
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
I had the same issue and is persistent amongst roms. It's a miss-aligned reader for the spen. it was very common in a lot of the first run models. I have the same issue even right now with my refurb though on the right side of my screen but and not as bad but my initial Note had the exact same border as yours.
Thank you for the answer and I can only assume that there is no way to correct this issue

I just noticed yesterday I am now getting the 4g LTE icon lit up on my phone in my area(very pleasant surprise) and the speeds don't seem that great though. I've traveled through LTE areas before and the speeds were 4x to 8x this fast. Could they still be tweaking it? Thanks for any input.

Yeah that's not fast, but it's not slow either. I get an average of 20mbps download on lte. Bit it varies from time of day, to objects in the way, and take into consideration how many people are using the tower you're on.
That's normal speed when they are first turning up and testing the frequencies give it a week or two and see if it improves

They must be testing it. I go from LTE to 4g to Edge in just a few seconds without even moving. They're definitely doing something because I was getting LTE service inside my workpkace where I previously got no signal at all. Plus, I was showing LTE at times today and couldn't load anything web based:screwy: I hope it does get faster.

The 3 times I have been in an area when they are doing tower upgrades it does exactly what you just described. It will go faster once they finish it.
AT&T turned on LTE here a few months ago and it's no faster than HSPA was, not even per tower... like at work I would see 12mbit down, at home 4mbit.. It hasn't changed. I've been told latency and other things are better but I never paid attention to them in the past.
