I just noticed yesterday I am now getting the 4g LTE icon lit up on my phone in my area(very pleasant surprise) and the speeds don't seem that great though. I've traveled through LTE areas before and the speeds were 4x to 8x this fast. Could they still be tweaking it? Thanks for any input.

Yeah that's not fast, but it's not slow either. I get an average of 20mbps download on lte. Bit it varies from time of day, to objects in the way, and take into consideration how many people are using the tower you're on.
That's normal speed when they are first turning up and testing the frequencies give it a week or two and see if it improves

They must be testing it. I go from LTE to 4g to Edge in just a few seconds without even moving. They're definitely doing something because I was getting LTE service inside my workpkace where I previously got no signal at all. Plus, I was showing LTE at times today and couldn't load anything web based:screwy: I hope it does get faster.

The 3 times I have been in an area when they are doing tower upgrades it does exactly what you just described. It will go faster once they finish it.
AT&T turned on LTE here a few months ago and it's no faster than HSPA was, not even per tower... like at work I would see 12mbit down, at home 4mbit.. It hasn't changed. I've been told latency and other things are better but I never paid attention to them in the past.

So after rooting and messing around with different roms and such, I installed an app called network that has been mentioned on here, to see about switching to 3G easily while at work.
Well I started noticing that the phone couldn't keep a 4G signal at all anymore, but didn't put 2 and 2 together because of some of the other stuff I had done, mainly flashing through 3 different roms in 45 mins.
Well I unrooted my phone, and got it exchanged today because of some terrible back light bleeding, that thankfully my new phone doesn't have, and rerooted the phone, restored all my apps on Mik Rom, and BAM, 4G goes screwy out of nowhere. So I looked through everything and the only networking type app I had was Network. I uninstalled it, and now instead of 998 ping and .5 d/l speeds I am averaging somewhere near 14 down and 71 ping.
Only change was that app. Anyone else have this issue after installing that app? Or if you are having 4G issues, and have this app, UNINSTALL IT!
just thought I'd throw it out there, considering it was making me really mad.
Just tested it myself and it's all good here.

Did you make changes in the network app?
The app is designed to DISABLE 4g. So if you made changes then yeah you would lose 4g.
Im sure this isnt the case, but wanted to mention it just in case.
I use mine to disable 4g since im not in a 4g Area but it works fine this way. But then again my 4g cant go screwy because it doesn't exist.

Hmmm... I notice your speedtest app actually showing an accurate upload (compared to the double digits people used to post. Is this an updated version? Speedtest had acknowledged inaccurate reporting on the TB.
Any one get or find an fix for this issue. I mean this is so horrible. Sitting right next to an 3g att phone same speedtests that phone gets an avg of about 2.5 down. Mine is much worse. And I'm in a 4g area. At this same location my artix got like 6 down most of the time. And I'm lucky to even pull 2 down with this phone.wtf

For whatever reason the Speedtest app dosent seem to go over 2/3MBs. Open up your browser and test your speeds... they will be much higher.
The app only shows me getting about 2.5 down, yet when I open up the browser and go to http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ it shows I get about 7/8 down.
Using http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest, I get about 2-3Mbps in the SF Bay Area.
Yeah my download speeds are horrible too. Every now and then though, I get decent speeds. Just now I got 5-6 mbps down on both the speedtest app and speakeasy.net in the New Brunswick, NJ area. Honestly, this isn't much better than my Captivate.
Sent from my SGS II.
I've never experienced "4g" speeds. And like others have said, captivate was much faster.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
Sitting in full H+ I got the following, one with app, one on speakeasy. The app saw higher upload, speakeasy saw higher download.
I definately see at least 50% better speed compared to my captivate. On the same general area I never saw higher than 1.6, and averaged closer to 1.2.
I'm in Salt Lake City Utah

Definitely makes a difference for me when running speed tests through the web browser opposed to using the Speed Test App. Sometimes 10 times faster through the browser.
I just got 8 down and 1.5 up in Cape girardeau missouri and thats about what ive been getting each time i test.
I'm only geting 2.5-3.5Mb/s down in San Diego. Something isn't right....

That is what I get at work in North San Diego (Rancho Bernardo). I only get 2.5Mb/s at home on DSL (no cable where I live) so I was happy that I got that on a phone.
I can usually get 5-8 down in Boise, ID, but never more than 1.2 up, I've heard it's throttled and not supposed to exceed 1.5 any truth to that?
I'm in San Antonio and I've been looking at 1X for the last 12 hours. Is there a problem or is it just me?

It's only happened to me a couple of times. Seems to be when I'm in a dead zone for a few hours. I've been turning off mobile data when I'm in those places. Hopefully that bug is fixed with the upcoming OTA.

How much data do you use?
I am asking because I have a phone that pulls crap like that all the time. I am on my 2nd phone due to this issue.
Thanks

Ever think it has something to do with the network in your area?
Sent from my HTC Rezound via Tapatalk
I don't think so, but if it was, Well AT&T looks nice. I called tech over and over and they all said network was fine in my "area".
It could be due to useing 20-30GB every time, but I used 22GB on AT&T's unlimited plan and never had this happen.

This month I'll use over 50gb, last month 15gb and averaged about 3gb per month over the last 4 years. I'm unlimited with a hotspot. It almost seems like I'm being throttled. That's BS if that's the case since I pay about $70+ a month for Internet on two phones.

Forgot to add it usually hit speeds between 8-12gb but this month I'm seeing a lot of 3-5gb and a lot of dropped signal. Haven't had that problem before at least not like this. Curious to see what happens as soon as I start my next pay cycle.

So I unrooted last night for a variety of reasons after a year of running custom roms and getting anywhere from 9 mbps to 22 mbps. This morning I used the Xfinity online speed test, and I got a reading of 36 mbps, with an upper speed of 44. How cruel is it that every awesome rom I ran never brought me close to this speed? And why?

So you unrooted and went back to the stock ROM? I remember when I first got my TB and had it stock I was getting 20-30Mbps+ in speedtests, but lately I only get around 5-12Mbps down, although with newer phones ran at the same time I get the same 25+ speeds. Interesting that the speeds increased when you went back to stock, but I would miss the speed and features of AOSP ICS, and the ability to easily tether.
I don't get as good data speeds rooted either but i dont really care
Actually, I re-rooted and then debloated the stock rom, but my speeds are still lightning fast.

I get meh speed on most of my roms and even data drops mostly because I think the radios don't play nice with a lot of the roms, but it is still more then good enough for hd netflix which is all I care about. And my phone is pretty, oh so pretty. More so then stock.
Does anyone have poor reception on their s4? The longer I have this phone, the more I realize the awful reception it gets. When I compare side by side with my htc rezound, there is usually a 12-18db difference between the two. My s4 really sees anything better than -88 to 85db and is usually around -100 while the htc is more often in the 70-75 range. I suppose this could explain the poor 4g speeds (6-10mbps) I get compared to the 20-40+ I'm used to. Just wanted to see what you guys get. Maybe I have weak antenna in my particular device but I doubt it considering samsungs history with bad reception. Thanks for reading

Are you using an app like cdma field test or Advanced Signal Status to view the signal between both phones. In the same locations? It will give you the decibels for data and voice.
I Personally haven't seen it to have poor reception. But haven't done alot of comparison with other phones. Have had a Motorola side by side and the s4 was pretty even with it. I thought. Hope those apps help you to see if it really is worse.

I'm curious about your findings because I currently have an HTC Rezound and have thought about getting the S4, but I've heard of some reception problems.
Don't get me wrong, it's a great phone. But I've wanted to smash it more than once because Internet didn't work in areas it worked fine on my rez
