I'm on the CM 10.2 nightlies (9/15 currently), and I'm trying to update through the Settings -> About Phone -> Check for CM updates option. This option is supposed to download the update, then boot into recovery and install the zip. It downloads fine and boots into recovery (CWM) and things look fine, but after that I get an error that says "E: failed to open /sdcard/0/cmupdater/cm-10.2-0130917-NIGHTLY-jfltevzw.zip (No such file or directory)." And then the line below that says "E: signature verification failed." I get the option to Install Untrusted Package, but that just gives me the same error.
Has anyone else run into this problem or know a way around it? I like that this seems like a very hassle free way to stay up to date on Nightlies. I saw an option in recovery to turn signature verification off. Would that get around this? Thanks in advance for help.

Are you trying to install bionix or already have it installed. Basically something is wrong with the update.zip on your sd-card.
In case you tried to rename something you downloaded from here to update.zip, do not do this. The update.zip that is created by Rom manager (or obtainted by a few less common methods) should be left alone. This is what the stock recovery loads in order for you to access the ClockworkMod Recovery. You must flash roms like bionix inside ClockworkMod Recovery by chosing to "install zip from sdcard" then navigating to the file.
Hope that helps.
Yeah, I have the update.zip file on my SDcard that has not been touched, and the ROM is on the bottom of update.zip. I'm trying to pass 'reinstall packages' in order to go into recovery mode.

I'm not sure what "on the bottom of update.zip" means. However to fix the issue of getting into recovery, simply load your existing rom and download (if you haven't already) Rom Manager from the market (the free version is fine). Then chose to install Clockworkmod recovery. Then go back into recovery and reinstall packages again (sometimes you have to reinstall packages twice before it works).
After speaking to a few people, they told me a solution to the signature problem. I downgraded from 3e to 2e and now it kind of works. Instead of getting the errors now, my phone simply reboots back in Recovery Mode instead of going into CWD(?) Mode.
Download rom manager and flash cw recovery again like the guy above said
SOLVED !! Never mind! I thought it was CWM Recovery updating, but it actually was Vz OTA update, which although I did not accept it, they have figured a way to force it to download and restart my phone.
I rooted my htc T-bolt a month or two ago and was able to install Clockworkmod ROM manager and Recovery programs. I have CWM Recovery v3.1.0.2, and it is trying to update to v4.0.1.5. I have not installed a new ROM, so I have the rooted stock.
I must have selected automatic update for Recovery, because in the middle of me using the phone, I get the message that the phone is turning off, then I see it reboot, and I see messages saying "finding update package..." and "opening update package..."
Eventually, the phone reboot/update hangs with the messages "E:failed to verify whole-file signature" and "E:signature verification failed" and finally "Installation aborted."
At this point, I am presented with the CWM Recovery menu. One of the choices is to reboot; however, once my phone reboots and loads everything it notices that it wants to do this update, so it shuts down the phone an reboots, and we are back where we started.
So I know I should select a different menu item, but which one? From reading about the CWM Recovery program, I could choose "install zip from sdcard" and then choose "toggle signature verification." I am concerned that may get me out of my loop, but allow me to download bad software.
Do I have any alternatives to this Morton's fork?
ooohhh, my first post on xda!
Hi all, I tried rooting my MT4G with the gfree method, after I rebooted i saw that S=off so i went into HBoot and Rebooted, The screen goes berserk and ends up on Android Recovery, I figured I'd just apply the stock recovery, PD15IMG.zip i renamed it to update.zip but I get, E: signature verification failed Installation Aborted. :/ i tried a few files. Also can't open / cache/ recovery.
Update*
Figured out how to fix it incase anyone was having the same problem, you need a fake flash recovery image, however i cannot seem to find a download for it since Clockword Mod Recovery is now on the market, please if anyone know where I can download ClockWork Mod Recover as a zip file still post.
Got that same problem.
But when I'm trying this, it doesn't install successfully and says: "Signature verification failed, installation aborted."
Hey if your still on this, I just fixed it today!! Download PD15IMG.zip, put it on SD card - hold power and down then hit HBoot, let it run and BOOM! your done.
Hi there,
I've been getting some notifications from my HTC Desire phone about an OTA update "2.33.161.6(6.14 MB) - Android 2.2".
I downloaded the update, but sadly it doesn't install. The phone reboots, starts to show a progress bar, and then I get an exclamation point icon. Pressing home takes me to a ClockworkModRecovery screen with this showing :
Finding update package
Opening update package
Verifying update package
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted
Is there a solution for this?? I've tried many things (like enabling and disabling verification check in CWM)
I have a rooted HTC Desire GSM (stock rom) and I think it's branded (Vodafone). I have the CWM with S-Off.
I want to try to install it from recovery as an update.zip, but therefor I need to know where android saves OTA updates?
Anyone knows the full path to the directory and knows what the file is called??
Thanx!!!
Hello,
I have already asked this in the CM10 SGS3 discussion but could not get any help there, so I assumed this will get more attention.
Recently, I tried updating CM10 using CM Updater but CWM failed to update, complaining about signature verification of the update package. The full error was: E:signature verification failed.
Has anyone encountered this error before? If so, how can I fix this? And also - could have been any harm done due to failing signature verification on CWM?
Thanks!

Not on CM, so, never encountered this error before but...does this happen every time you try and update?

Are you sure you have CWM installed? A signature verification error in this case could result in of two possible things: either you have incompatible recovery (i.e. stock) installed or it is a bad/corrupted download. No harm was done, since failing to verify signature just does not let the zip to install.
@Oomahey, I tried this just once since I was not sure about the exact outcome of this.
@hsrars-d, Yes, I have CWM v5.4, I am not making any confusions, it says that right in the title on recovery
I'll try updating this one more time and get back to you.
Thank you for your time!
I had this yesterday on a note 2 and realised it didn't have cwm recovery installed. When I installed that worked perfectly

Have not tried it yet but is it possible that my CWM version is old enough not to be compatible? It is version v5.4 (dot something-something)
Also, could CM Updater be using a different software on recovery even though when booting into recovery it explicitly says "Clockworkmod"? It does not make much sense to me.
Sorry for double-posting but I had to update that I have tried flashing it again, with the nightly build of 23/11 and it failed again. (after toggling signature verification on "apply new update" and using CM Updater again to update firmware)
Any suggestions?
Well, i have CWM Touch as my recovery, u could try to flash that and then update

Install Rom Manager from market than install latest Clockworkmod recovery for i9300 and that should work , you have an wold recovery
The CM Updater has never work for me, ever.
I'm running the latest version of CWM (v6.0.1.2) and when I try to update via CM Updater I get the following:
Code:
-- Installing package…Finding update package…
Opening update package…
Verifying update package…
e:failed to open /sdcard/cmupdater/cm-10-20121124-NIGHTLY-i9300.zip (No such file or directory)
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted
I can also say that if I manually go to "install zip from sdcard" and then select to access the internal sdcard I get the same error
Code:
e:can't mount /sdcard/
Browsing the external sdcard is no problem, only the internal.
I should also mention that my phone is encrypted, if that is the reason to why I can't access the internal sdcard in CWM, I don't know.
The encryption is the problem.

Is upgrading CWM different from replacing it with the stock recovery? Since, as I previously mentioned, I already have CWM installed and am just interested in upgrading it.
I am bumping this since it is still relevant. I am about to upgrade CWM and was thinking of doing this with ROM Manager (rather than heimdall/ODIN). Is it possible doing this from ROM Manager? Is it also more reliable than heimdall/ODIN in the context of bricking your phone?
