[Q] Exchange: Email stuck in Inbox on phone when moved via Outlook - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am using a Galaxy Note II on Verizon running stock 4.1.2. I have my corporate (exchange) email configured on my phone. Our exchange is hosted by Microsoft (Office 365).
I have an issue where messages that are moved out of my Inbox via Outlook get stuck in my Inbox on Android. In Outlook I mark these messages as read and move them to another folder that is still on the exchange server. Both Outlook on the Desktop and the Outlook.com web client show these messages in their correct state (read, in folder). On my phone they remain in my Inbox, unread. It appears that I can mark them read on my phone and that status will be retained but if I try to "move" them on the phone they reappear back in the Inbox.
No amount of syncing will make them move. The only way I've found to get the Inbox to full resync with the server is to delete the account and re-create it.
Any ideas/suggestions on how to resolve this issue?
Thanks

How do i get Gmail folders working?

I know how to set up my gmail inbox working with outlook but how do i get my folders working? for example i have certain emails in my saved folder, but it's always empty.
one solution is to get Gmail for mobile - separate app in java, works ok under jblend, folders supported
In you Gmail settings via your computer, is your settings/Forwarding and pop/imap on?
There are configuration settings for other mail handlers in there too.
When you go to the mobile and you are at the mail (No Mail etc) on the Gmail click on the in box, then menu, send receive. This will then pull in all the folders that you are showing on the computer Gmail. So they are now on the mobile.
Folders
I cant view email in folders either, I have IMAP switched on and I have filters which skip my inbox to sort email but only my inbox mail is visible - I can see my folders but they are empty....
Any solutions?
Cheers!

Same with activesync or imap - folders all show, but only inbox contains emails. If I move an email to another folder it correctly moves it in gmail, but as soon as sync'd disappears from folder on phone. Would be good to see all emails, but I assume this is specifically blocked (to avoid you accidentally downloading 7GB of emails to phone!)

Use IMAP rather than POP3 should resolve it.
If you want POP3 only option is a software to move mail to another folder within that mail account as it only removes mail from inbox.
I use POP3 & POMO to move my important mail to folders created by me & delete junk or leave it in inbox, works well for my usage requirements.
Thanks but gmail is already IMAP as far as I know! Am I wrong? So what can I do? To set again from the beggining my account and choose IMAP server? In what software did yoy refer to? sorry for my bad english

default setup is IMAP.
when I used IMAP all mail stays present in inbox.
I use POMO to organise mail with simple rules & move mail to another folder in my POP3 accounts so they are not deleted on next send/receive.

I managed to fix that! I didnt use that programm but with many "magic" and with little bit luck I fixed that prob in gmail an hotmail too! Thanks for help

If you gMail set as an IMAP account, you can use it as an Exchange server. In ActiveSync on your HD2, select 'configure server' and enter 'm.google.com'. Use your gMail account details as the user. Remember to de-select calendar and contacts etc unless you want to sync those with Google as well. The advantage of this setup is that you can set the email schedule to collect mail as it arrives. It does use more power so I use it during work hours only.

[Q] IMAP E-Mail Issue

I setup my email account using IMAP. After getting my initial mail, the amount of messages I have in the Inbox stays the same, even after I delete them. Just for clarification, It says "4" (in the green circle) next to Inbox even though it's empty. It also says "4 new emails" on the screen-lock page. I tried deleting and recreating the account, but it stays the same.
I originally ran this account as POP3 (with "never delete from server" selected), but when my phone received a message, it would stop it from showing up on my computer's email client. It didn't just happen when I deleted the message on the phone.. the phone seemed to be taking it from the server.
I'd rather run the account as POP3, but I'd be happy with either if they worked properly. The only reason I have it setup in IMAP is because it allows me to receive the same message on my phone and computer.
Any suggestions on how to fix this?
Thanks,
-Adam

[Q] Outlook Email to Android

I am new to Android and coming from a Blackberry. How can I sync the emails in outlook with my new phone? I don't have an exchange server and I would prefer to do it with the mail app that came with the phone. I would like the emails to delete from outlook when I delete them on the phone and show as read when I read them on the phone and vice versa. I would prefer not to have the emails and information sent into the "cloud" also if that is possible, but if it is the only way so be it.
I know that I can have the two different email addresses sent to my phone through the included mail app by setting them up separately, but would the emails show as read, deleted, etc in outlook if I did that?
If it makes a difference I have two email addresses that feed into outlook. One of them is pop and one is imap. The phone is an HTC Amaze.
Could I just convert my pop email to imap and set up the two email addresses separately on my phone? Wouldn't that make it so when I delete email from outlook or the phone, it will be deleted on the other?
The problem with this is my isp does not offer imap so I will have to use google email to sync with it and make it imap.
If I do this I will have to add the gmail account to outlook and my phone, but wouldn't I have to delete the pop account from outlook and the phone in order to avoid duplicate emails showing up? I think this might happen because right now if I check the pop account without using outlook the emails show up that were received after I last opened outlook. The issue with deleting the pop account from outlook and phone is I still want to be able to send emails from that address.

[Q] Stock Email Client Deleting Emails

Hi all,
Recently purchased a Samsung Nexus S. The stock email client (not the GMail app), using POP3 will delete mails once they have been downloaded, or when I next sync. Occasionally it will not delete all mails, just some. The option to delete from the server is not ticked and no other clients are pulling from the server, so its not the case that another app is deleting them. To confirm, emails aren't being deleted after say 10 days, they are being deleted within minutes, and I'm only downloading a handful of mails.
Any help much appreciated- all forum posts seem to relate to other clients consuming from the server and deleting mails, which isnt my issue. Cheers.
Andy
If I remember correctly, POP email servers are linked between the mobile device and the regular computer. If you delete something on the computer it will be deleted on the phone and vice versa. If this isn't the case, are you sure they're being deleted and not hidden do to being marked as read? Check the trash to see if they've been sent there.
Thanks for the reply.
Messages are not being moved to any visible folders, and no other client (ie Outlook) are accessing this mail server.
Thanks.
OK, I kind of resolved this, if it helps anyone.
Firstly, I tried a different POP3 and also an IMPA provider with the mail client - both work fine, no problems. Then I recalled that my mail provider (Virgin Media UK) have recently advised that it is necessary to put 'recent:' ahead of the POP3 username, making it 'recent:[email protected]'. Now the default mail client won't allow this format of username, presumably some internal validation on the client side does not permit it.
So I tried K9 Mail - this behaves the same way with the standard POP3 username, but with the 'recent:' prefix (which it allows) my mails aren't deleted every time I pull from the server. My thoughts are that without the 'recent:' prefix, Virgin Media only returns the new mails - as the default mail client syncs with the server on a 1:1 relationship, it then deletes all old messages (even if they are only a few seconds old). With 'recent:' I think Virgin Media supplies a whole chunk of recent emails, not just the new ones, and the client app essentially doesn't delete the older mails until the time I happen to sync and they are no longer classed as 'recent'.
So in summary, there is no fix for the built-in client - but a workaround is to use K9, which seems a better client anyway. What's most ironic is that Virgin Media's email service uses Google Mail. Oh dear...
