[q] gs3 at&t soft bricked halfway boots download mode - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently bought a soft bricked galaxy S 3 from a gentleman who said he rooted it and one day it wouldn't boot.
When i turned it on, it would vibrate, then say Samsung, move to the galaxy s 3 logo, then shut off. I hooked it up to ODIN and flashed the original stock 4.0.4 rom to the phone by pressing the PDA button. I selected the Auto Reboot, F. Reset Time, and Nand Erase All options before flashing.
The flash was successful, but when i booted up the phone afterwards (by unplugging it, then taking out the battery and putting it back in) I held down power, home, and volume down, and it took me to the download screen, but then shut off. I cant boot into recovery either because when i hold down the appropriate buttons it says "booting recovery" but then shuts off.
I know its not the battery because i tried a different one and both batteries were fully charged.
I did not flash a boot chain, because i could not find one for ATT S3
The phone will also not boot while plugged in via USB to computer or wall charger.
Phone Info:
Model: SGH-1747
If you could find links to the things needed or any solutions to this almost unbricked s3 please help me!!
Thanks in Advance

[Q] Dead Galaxy S2

Today I was running a full titanium backup of my rooted S2.
The process stopped halfway trough (slightly greyed out screen, and no response).
I held the power button down for some time to turn it off. Turned it on right after and it showed the galaxy S 2 screen with the warning (rooted phone).
It didn't boot from there, so I tried to turn it off and on a few times.
As it didn't boot, I removed the battery and reinserted it. After this, the phone doesn't turn on at all.
No key combinations work. No download mode, no recovery and no normal boot. Tried with/without SIM/SD charger etc.
Any advice or just send it back to the shop?

Post should be in Q&A
Usb Recovery jig may get you to download mode .
As the phone is rooted warranty is void .

Is your phone locked to a particular carrier?
If the jig doesn't turn it on, then it sounds toast, hardware issue maybe, and if it doesn't boot, they won't be able to tell that its rooted so you should be able to get it fixed under warranty.

Continious Recovery bootloop + Can't charge + No hope

Phone: Samsung fascinate SGH t959D
Current state: Bricked beyond my abilities to fix or find a solution for
Tried to restore phone back to stock using this guide. After odin finished, I got an error message and then first the phone shows that the battery is unsupported. I fixed this by removing the battery and putting it back in again. Then it is now stuck on recovery boot-loop. What I mean by this is that when I turn on the phone (which needs to be plugged in now to turn on), it either shows the battery with the loading animation on it or it boots straight to recovery mode (with 4 options). Then after a little while in either of these 2 states, it will power off and do the same thing again. It does not allow me to use the up vol key to choose options in the recovery mode, only down. And I can't boot into download mode because like I said before it only shows battery or recovery mode and it doesn't stay in those states for long enough to do anything useful.
Conclusion:
-Can't enter download mode
-Randomly boots to either recovery or shows battery with animation star
-Randomly shuts off
-Can't choose options in recovery using the home key
-Can't use up vol key
Diagnostics: Dead or trolling
Please help
First off, to charge your battery you can use http://www.ebay.com/itm/Battery-Cha...00-Galaxy-S-Fascinate-Mesmerize-/180750832498. When you said you got an error with ODIN, do you mean ODIN actually gave an error, or you got an error when you booted the pbone up after usjng ODIN.l?
Odin gave the actual error; it showed FAIL
Thanks
You need to look at this guide for your phone

God bless you man, I will be heading to future shop now and see if I can find some of those gizmos mentioned.
If this works, there is hope for my phone afterall and I don't need to pay another $150 for some guy at telus to tell me it is not fixable...again.
Cheers
Thanks everyone who replied to this thread. After I bought everything I needed, which took longer to arrive than I expected. The phone is now working properly. I used this guide after using the jig:

[HELP] Phone shut off and will not boot

Hey guys, haveing a slight panic attack. My phone, running nightly 1/8/2012 CM10 made a weird noise like a frozen boop sound and shut off, when left alone it buzzes like it's starting up and just keeps doing that with no sign of actually booting. I can get into what seems to be Odin, and am currently downloading the stock Odin file from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1506330 in hopes that this is a brick that is fixable. If anyone can help me identify what happened, or what I might be able to do if this doesn't work. I would really appreciate it.
EDIT: I can get into ODIN but as soon as it shows the "downloading" screen it shuts off and does the repeated buzzing sound..
Please help if you're able too.
If there is lifesigns you don't have a brick.
Just reflash your rom.
I can't boot into recovery, my only life sign is the Samsung logo at first start-up, then nothing. I can get into ODIN, but when in download mode it stays for about 5 seconds and then reboots infinitely.
Have you tried removing the battery, putting it back in, then try getting into recovery?

Stuck power button ?
Stuck volume button ??
Very common problem on gnote ....g
Volume buttons work fine, I can press down to get into download mode, but it does not stay in download mode. it reboots again and loops with no screen indicators. I can't get into recovery at all and the battery pull does nothing.
Stuck power button.....maybe
that would explain the rapid reboot.
does it attempt a reboot after pulling battery, then putting it back in ? without touching buttons ?
If yes, then power button is stuck...g
I had the same problem as you. I was stuck up in the mountains when this happened. Random reboot and then just 2 second buzzing and black screen. I ended up taking it completely apart all board connections and making sure nothing was fried or stuck. put it back together and was able to get it into download mode and reflash via odin. My only issue im having right now is getting it to root and flash recovery and rom. Hope that helps.
You might consider buying a download mode jig shown here

A USB jig will not work on the galaxy note.
If download mode is gone, the device must be restored using a JTAG service.....g

[Q] Bricked phone - Boot loop - Recovery & Download mode not working [HELP]

Hello guys,
I've got a big problem with my I9300 and therefore I would like to ask here for any help. (If I'm in the wrong section, please move the thread to a correct one)
I had installed the Resurrection Remix ROM, v5.2.6. from 30.12.2014 and Googy-Max 2 recovery (CWM based) on my phone. I was using it for days and all worked fine.
One day I turned the phone off and I wanted to restart it. But it never restarted again; it ends up in a boot loop. It shows me the white Samsung Boot-Logo for some seconds, then a total black screen and the same thing repeats in a loop.
So I wanted to get into the recovery for wiping etc. but I couldn’t access the recovery. Nothing happens by pressing the relevant buttons. The device is still hanging in the boot loop. So I wanted to flash via Odin, but this isn't possible. I also can't go into the download mode. After pressing the relevant buttons, the green warning screen appears, which asks me if I really want to go to the download mode. But when I press volume up for "continue" or even if I don't press anything, the phone turns off and the boot loop with the white Samsung Logo starts again.
Therefore I ordered a USB JIG for forcing the device to go into download mode. When I plug the USB JIG in, the device actually goes into download mode but this status holds on only for a few seconds. After accessing download mode through the JIG, after a few seconds the phone turns off, restarts, (and because the JIG is still plugged in) the download mode appears again and it ends in a loop.
At first I thought maybe the power button is sticking and therefore the device turns on and off autonomous. But definitively I can negate it, because I opened the phone and removed the power button and nothing changed. Also by pressing the power button on the mainboard I can clearly hear the "click".
So I started a new attempt. Although the time, in which the device stays in download mode before turning off, is very short (only a few seconds), I tried flashing an other recovery, namely TWRP v2.8.3.0. So I prepared ODIN, plugged the JIG into the device, by appearing the download mode I switched cables and an other person clicked start at ODIN and it worked. So now TWRP is installed. Now I also can't get into recovery but after flashing TWRP there exist two little differences. First, after pressing the relevant buttons, TWRP appears for less than 1 second until the phone turns off. Secondly, when I plug the device in for charging, the Samsung charging logo appears for some seconds, then for less than 1 second appears a charging logo from Lollipop and the device ends up in a loop by displaying alternately the two different charging logos. Before flashing TWRP, the device booted in a boot loop (as I wrote above) by plugging it in for charging.
So the main question: how can I get my device work again
I tried telling you all details so that you have a better view of the problem.
Maybe I should flash a fully (stock) rom, but as I told you the download mode appears only for a few seconds. Flashing a recovery was possible, because the recovery file is very small - 7 MB. A full rom is much bigger and I think by flashing a complete rom, the device would turn off while Odin is flashing, therefore I ask first here for any assistance.
Thank you very much in advance!

Check and make sure that your volume buttons and home button are not stuck also. If they are not, I would suggest a visit to a repair shop as your EMMC chip might be weak already.

Your power button is failing, stuck in 'pressed' position. Try pressing repeatedly power button for several seconds, then release it completely. It shall bring it back to life. Visit your local service, or prepare tin, heat gun and soldering pistol. One button cost $0.2, they are selling them on eBay in sets of three (and 10, and 100....).
Happened to me some time ago, and video on youtube helped me to dismantle my phone, pull broken button out of it, and change it for new.
My phone was cycling like yours.

As said your emmc chip maybe failing.

Thank you very much for helping! :good:
So the question is, whether it's the power button's or emmc's fault...
I did a little searching and found this video. I've got exactly the same problem like the guy. At 1:06 following the boot loop, at 1:34 following the problem with downlod mode.
Although he thinks it's caused to the sudden death problem, but at least in my case I think it's wrong because months ago I did the eMMC Brickbug Check.
Also I noticed a probably important detail. When I put the battery in the phone, it automatically turns on without pressing the power button like in 1:04-1:09 in the video. Which normal working phone turns itself on by simply putting in the battery...?
So it must get a command for turning on - (possibly through a defect power button?)
@Virnik0, do you remember, if you could hear the micro-switch clicking on your phone before replacing the button on the mainboard?

Your power button is faulty, replace it before you try fixing anything else.
Thank you very, very much for helping! :good: :good: :good:
Truly the power button was fault although you could hear clearly the "click".
I unsoldered and removed the power module and (by startig with JIG and rebooting via ADB) the phone works as it should. :victory:
Now I'm trying to solder a new power button......it's a bit tricky
Again, thank you very much guys!
I had the same problem, pressed the button many times, and it helped. Thank you for your suggestions

Samsung S+ only boots to 'Download Mode' - Any guidance?

Hello,
New to the forum and all of this, so please go easy on me.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S9+ (SM-G960F).
On Thursday evening, I went to the device and it was completely dead. It wouldn't turn on and I attempted to do power key/volume down and various other button combinations I found online that would normally boot the device. Obviously, I attempted to charge the phone, but the charging light did not come on yet the phone did warm up slightly as if it was charging. After leaving it plugged in for so long, a 'Downloading... Do Not Turn Target Off' screen appeared. It also states I can restart the phone by holding volume down/power button for seven seconds. However, when I do this the phone just goes dead and doesn't boot up. After plugging in the charger again trying various buttons, I eventually end up back at the same download screen.
I've read about recovery mode, safe mode etc but I am unable to access them using the instructions I've read.
Any help would be appreciated. Ideally I'd like to be able to access my photos/videos/messages on the device and be able to use it again.
