Hi
My default Camera app doesn't have a setting to choose the file location so images and videos are being saved to the sdcard0.
I want to save them directly to sdcard1 (the external card).
What's the way to do this? I remember something from the old Linux days about softlink, hardlinks but I forgot most of it.
Is there another solution?
Also, is there a good video cam app that record 1080P?
For still I can use FV-5 which nice.
Device is THL W8 Beyond, android 4.2.1 if it matters.
Thanks.

Hi everyone
I have a problem with movies which I took with the stock camera app. When I'm in FullHD mode, the video lags a bit. For example if I take a video of moving cars, it is not smooth as I expected.
It doesn't make a difference between internal or external memory.
I uploaded 2 versions (external/internal) to youtube. Maybe someone can help me with this problem.
If you need more information about it, please let me know.
Here are the links: (sorry, I can not use hyperlinks because I'm a new member)

Or could it be possibel to fix the problem when I reinstall the camera app?
Does no one have this problem too?
Try turning off image stabilization if you've got it on see if that helps.
Does it happens only for full hd or also for 720p videos?

Guys i 've been searching everywhere for this, but can't find a solution.
Ever since i instaled the Jb XXDLI1 and now the XXDLI2 i'm having problems with the external sd. The stock camera app can't record the photos on it. Mx player can't find any videos on the card too.
the weird thing is that if i go to the folder and click directly on the file it opens normaly.
Other camera apps work perfectly.
Another problem is while transfering files with the usb cable. it is so slow that would take hours to transfer a movie.
Anyone knows any solution for this ?

First thing...what is your rom? Is it a custom rom? XXDLI2 is a leaked jb firmware..thus different bugs can be observd.
Everything is working fine on dli2.. So it is not a bug in the rom.. You might need to do a clean install to get rid of these problems.. Also have you checked the option to store photos on memory card under settings in the camera app

The problem happens in the stock and custom roms. I tried both. I am using now the omega rom.
The weird is that if i go back to older leaks all is fine.
The option to save on the sd card is checked. Once i try to take a photo a warning pops up saying the picture cant be saved on the sd card.
Only the stock camera app and mx video cant use the sd. All other apps can see it normaly.
What bothers me the most is the extremely slow transfer of files using the usb cable. If i take the sd and conect it to an adapter the transfer goes fine.

File this under Stupid Questions. But i've been using the 4.2 camera (with photosphere) since it was released and only just wanted to shoot video with it. I go about shooting a 9 minute clip and can't for the life of me find out where the video was stored. Is there a bug with this cam and videos? Or am i just missing the storage location completely? No clues in the settings of the camera. I'm at a loss as to where my video went. Could someone enlighten me?
/sdcard/dcim/camera but i dont think video is working. at least it doesnt for me. only get a file when shooting 1080 but it is messed up. 720 and 480 wont even save a file for me.
Guys, this is a known bug. 4.2 video cam does not work. A quick search would have gave you this answer.

video not working is a known bug but he was asking where the files are stored. i just added that extra info.
Hi guys,
I've been using iPhone since they launched and LG V30 is my first android phone.
Here is my question,
Is there a way to record more than 4 GB?
I've been using my LG V30 to record some of my music sessions and it seems that everytime file size reaches 4GB, it stops and restarts.
Stop and restart is okay but there is about 3 second missing from it.
I've tried open camera app but for some reason, audio is terrible.
Can anyone chime in and help me out with this?
Thanks alot.

Are you using the LG camera app in order to film your work or are you using the app called HD audio recorder? On my TMO V30 the HD recorder was already installed.
Next are you recording to internal storage or SD card storage?
If you have external SD card how did you initially format the card? FAT32 or EXFAT?
Answers to those questions may point you to an answer.

Sorry I thread was miss leading.
I meant Video recording.
So I am using LG Camera app.
I tried both internal and external and both did not work. and SD card is formatted as EXFAT.

Okay, here's what I would do. I'd try to do a recording with the HD recording app and test to see if it allows recordings over 4gb. If so then issue is probably due to Camera app. From there if try a different camera app to test. I'd recommend the Google camera mod app available on this forum.
If the HD recording fails after 4gb then maybe system wide limitation. Do you have a AV file over 4gb? Could you connect to computer and try to copy file over to both SD and internal storage and see if you get any errors copying?

Hi! I'm getting a V30 this week and I also plan to do a lot of video recording with it so this is of interest to me. I did bump into the 4GB file size limit on Android as well when recording long videos with other Android phones such as my V10. First I thought it would have something to do with FAT32 storage format which has a 4GB file size limit but after doing some research it seems it's not related to FAT32 but a (arbitrary?) limitation of the Android OS. However, some Android phone makers seem to be able to tweak the OS in such a way that you can record beyond 4GB, for instance Sony (tested it on a Xperia XZ).
Regarding the V30, I just happened to come across this recent thread which is talking about a new OS update for the V30/V30+ bringing features of the newer V30 ThinQ to the older V30(+): https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/how-to/oreo-update-ai-camera-t3760379. Now the interesting thing is that one of the new features listed says "Google Drive supports downloading files larger than 4GB". It could be nothing after all but maybe, just maybe, this also means that Android on the V30 now generally copes with files larger than 4GB and that this will also affect recording video with the native app.
Other than that, a few thoughts how to tackle the problem:
- Judging from my experience with the V10, the native camera app of the V30 should have the option to change the recording bitrate. If you can live with a lower bitrate for your video, you can squeeze out a couple of more minutes recording time. On the V10 I was able to record over 1 hour in 720p resolution with the low bitrate setting.
- I don't have the V30 yet, but maybe the native app (or some 3rd party recording app) has the option to record with the newer H.265/HEVC video codec instead of the (still) common H.264. The superior compression of H.265 will allow you to have a much smaller file size while keeping the quality, ergo you will be able to record a lot longer even if the 4GB file size limit continues to exist.
- OpenCamera is only one of the 3rd party camera apps that support auto-restart: If you find the audio to be terrible you could also check out "Cinema FV-5" or "Filmic Pro".
That being said, I'm glad to hear that on the V30, the native app at least seems to automatically restart after reaching the file size limit. On the V10, you have to manually push the record button again which is annoying when you just want to place the camera somewhere and keep it running while you have other things to do.
Still, let's hope Android get rid of this limitation asap!
I recently realized this limitations of 4gb and there's an interruption of several seconds at least when recording 4k slog format...this is terribly disappointing.
I don't mind the 4gb size limit but how is it possible that you miss time between files?
Infuriating.
Hey guys,
Since yesterday I'm trying to make "long" videos (~one hour) in HD1080p quality and everytime the size of the video exceed or is near 4Go the recording stops saying limit is reached.
Of course I tried to store in both internal memory and SD card the result is obviously the same.
So my question: is it possible to start a new file (recording) automaticaly? cause if the limit is FAT32 I'm afraid there is no alternative.
May be there is?
By the way, I'm using LineageOS 15.1 2018.02.18-UNOFFICIAL-mido and the default cam recorder.
Thx for your help.
Best regards

You could use google cam to actually record better. (At 60 fps) and possibly you can record more than hour long videos.
