Hello,
I tried to upgrade my S2 for Android 4.3 and i did the XWKDD Kernel. I flashed it sucessfully then i went to super click thingy and then rooted it. It was sucessful. After that, it shows the yellow triangle and tried restarting but the same thing. Eventhough after i flashed the kernel and it restarted then it goes to yellow triangle then i rooted it sucessfully. Same story all over again. Help as i need to use my phone!
btw its i9100. SSN- i9100GSMH
Boot into recovery, factory reset/wipe. No recovery ? Back to stock via Odin & start again (re-root your phone & restore backup, or re-flash custom rom/kernel & start again). How ? Get stock rom from Samfirmware, follow flashing instructions in thread stickied near the top of Q&A.

for the stock rom, i am confused as i cant remember which android version is it but it was 4.X.X for sure!
i tried to factory reset and wipe but nope. tried to start over again. same thing. how? how do i put android 4.3??
Forget Android 4.3. Your only focus right now should be getting the phone working normally again.
Go to Samfirmware, download a stock rom for your carrier/country (it doesn't matter which, just not 4.0.4), flash it with Odin. I'm not going to post this again :-/

i did download the stock rom and everything is working well thanks to you allthough my contacts are wiped out. i did back up on my computer except i lost the contacts....
so for now, how can i put 4.3 or some custom rom? i am bored staying stock for like 3 years and never rooted it. I mean i had this phone for too long.. and never had a chance to have a new one like S4 etc..
Glad you got it working.
Always, always, always follow the flashing instructions for the rom in question. They're always on the first page of the thread devoted to the rom in Android Development or Original Android Development & they're always very clear/simple.
So head on over to those sections & do some reading/research before you do anything else.
Edit - And the first thing you do after you root your phone (and before you install any custom rom) ? Backup. Everything. Contacts/calendar/etc synced to Google, backup call/SMS logs with TiBu, do a nandroid backup in CWRecovery, and backup your EFS with kTool/similar (keep one copy of this backup on your PC, and another on the external SD card in your phone if you have one). Backup, backup, backup, backup. At least once a week or before you make any major changes to your phone (like flashing a new version of a rom or kernel). That way you don't lose your contacts/other stuff if things go pear shaped.
thanks to u as i followed the instructions via researching haha
Now i have official CM10.2 which i have done with cmw yet i might try for a custom CM10.2 like something to do with hybrid or stuff like that...
But, when i restart or switch on. it still have the yellow triangle then for a few seconds later n it booted to CM which is fine.
Why is the yellow triangle there? have i not done it properly?
Thanks
If it were me, I wouldn't worry about the triangle. You only need to worry about it if you need to make a warranty claim. If you want to get rid of it, read the Triangle Away thread on here.

Hey,
I just wanted to check about a few issues I came across when attempting to run CyanogenMod on my Galaxy S2. This is what I did:
I rooted the phone no problem and followed the guide closely just incase I messed things up. I backed up through Kies and also through SMS Backup & Restore, and Call Backup & Restore and copied all the files in the Phone folder manually through MTP.
To root, I used GT-I9100_XWKI4_insecure.tar and post-root, I reloaded GT-I9100_XWKI4_original.tar back onto the device.
Now comes where I ran into my first problem.. I followed the guide from the CyanogenMod Forum to put CyanogenMod onto the device, I (thought) backed up everything fine using Clockwork Mod (but it must have failed and I didn't notice as there was no backup available when I needed it). After attempting to load update-cm-7.1.0-GalaxyS2-signed.zip, my S2 wouldn't go past the boot-screen and just sat there until powered off when I tried to restore the backup which wasn't there as I said.
Left with no backup and a device that wouldn't boot, I loaded the S2 with CF-Root-SGS2_XW_NEE_KI4-v4.1-CWM4.tar and installed Litening_Rom_v6-1 which I am currently on but due to countless issues with it, I would like to either successfully load CyanogenMod or go back to stock firmware. I have tried to load CyanogenMod a few times but just reverted back to a NANDroid backup I made of Litening_Rom_v6-1 as I always ran into the issue of it not loading past the boot-screen.
Does anyone know what I may have done wrong for CyanogenMod not to run?
Also, in the meantime until I get it working, I would like to return to Stock Firmware. I have found GT-I9100_O2U_I9100XWKJ1_I9100O2UKJ1_I9100XXKI4.tar.md5 and Kernel_I9100XWKJ1.tar.md5 and don't know where to put them in Odin when flashing the device. I assume that the ROM goes into Phone and the Kernel goes into PDA, but I would like confirmation of this before I mess about with it.
Thanks for any help in advance,
Peter

Basics are to always follow the instructions from the rom thread you get the rom from .
O2U xxxx tar file goes to PDA in odin and nothing else it includes a kernel so that does not need flashing twice .
Rom in phone = exploding phone phone is for modem

Hello I am from Argentina, desperately need help.
I rooted my SGSII ICS 4.0.3 phone with CF Root LPJ everything went as expected. Odines PASS! and all but when my phone reboots it just turns off after logo screen with triangle.
I can get into recovery and download mode but that is all.
What should I do?
Might commit suicide if there is no fix.
Flash stock rom.
You can find it at sammobile.com.

If you can get into recovery and download mode, you are only softbricked. It could be worse.
Please be more precise, I lack experience but I will understand.
Which stock ROM should I flash now?
Because I got a downloaded I9100UHLPS_I9100AROLP4_ARO but it is not LPJ.
I also managed to find Kernel_I9100XXLPJ at intratech. Would flashing this kernel fix it? Could it possibly mess my recovery mode and brick my phone?
Flash the same ROM again using Odin, do not flash the wrong kernel.
ARO is a good ROM, just flash it again, it will boot, then root with the cfroot for that ROM later.
What do you mean by the SAME rom? I got this problem flashing a CF-Root kernel not an entire ROM.
The ROM I had before was ICS 4.0.3 which I upgraded officially via Kies.
Should I flash ICS 4.0.3 UHLPS that is for my region? I9100UHLPS_I9100AROLP4_ARO
I'm pretty sure that's what Atifsh meant, yes.
Thank you all! Thanks given with the button for all!!!
I flashed stock ICS 4.0.3 for my country downloaded from sammobile.com and the phone recovered with no trouble! I got my soft bricked SGSII working again!
Is there anything I need to wipe now to make sure there is no crazy leftover from the CF-Root boot fail?
If it's working fine, then probably not. I mean, you could always backup your contacts, call logs, SMS, etc and your apps with Titanium, do a factory reset, and then restore contacts, call logs, sms and user apps/data only (do not restore system apps or data).
But if it's working fine now, I don't see the point.
I want you to do two things for me tho.
First, get kTool either from Google Play (it's free) or from Hellcat's thread on here. Then backup your EFS. Keep one copy on your external SD card in your phone, and keep another copy on your PC. Then I want you to do a Nandroid backup in CWRecovery.
That way if anything does ever go wrong, you should be able to recover/get up and running again easily without losing your stuff. For example, if your phone ever borked & you had to send it in for warranty service/replacement, you could restore that backup when you get your phone back/a new phone.
Do a backup at least once a week and certainly every single time before you flash a new kernel/rom or if you make major changes to your system.
I am afraid of doing anything with this phone now. First experience = soft brick.
Damn I almost die. Now I need to find a way to get out of this stock 4.0.3 ICS because it is ramming through my battery and is as slow as a potatoe.
4.0.4 is eMMC hard-brick possibly if I wipe after flashing.
Now I feel like an expert.
I also tried flashing cf root today and it softbricked my phone. Weird.... next time I try to root my phone, I wont be using cf root.
Which Kernel was yours? Leave it here logged for future brickers.
Mine was LPJ
Hello all,
I have tried many things before asking for help, but nothing worked so far.
Here is the story:
I was on ICS 4.0.4, with default ROM coming from carrier.
I wanted to install CM9.1,
spent countless hours doing all backup and reading tutorial.
Tried finally yesterday and it was stuck doing "wiping data". Left it for 20min+ and nothing.
After restarting it, it is now stuck on the boot logo.
I couldn't enter anymore CWM or stock recovery (up+home+power), but could enter Download mode.
So I tried a couple of things I have read on the forum, like installing Siyah-s2-v5.0.1.tar through Odin 3.04 but I still cannot enter recovery mode.
I've read (too late) about the mmc brick bug (couldn't find anyone speaking about it in any tutorial until I reached this point... nothing on CM wiki or in other tuto... classic!).
I hope I'm not in this case though as I can still go to DL mode, and the phones having the brick bug are completely dead (blank screen or no DL mode), as per http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1756242
I managed to finally get CWM working only by using GT-I9100_ICS_ClockworkMod-Recovery_5.5.0.4.tar from Odin, then tried to install CM9.1 from SD card but after reboot it is stuck on the blue cyanogenmod animation boot screen and nothing happens.
Tried also to restore from CWM my nandroid backup, but during the restore it seems to hang then restart by itself, and then I'm back to Galaxy S boot logo (the animated one with the big S).
And after this I have lost again access to recovery mode.
I can't go back to stock and I can't install CM... I was not expecting such issues, it all seemed pretty basic on paper.
I'm really stressed and don't know what to do
Flash a stock rom in Odin (download mode), re-root your phone/flash a kernel with CWM, restore your backup ?
Hi,
thanks for answering,
I have tried to locate such a rom, but I'm not sure which one... is there a specific one to try ? could you point me to it please ?
so far I have tried I9100XXLPQ_I9100OXALPQ_I9100XXLPQ_HOME.tar.md5
but no luck
you also say "re-root", at the time I used this method:
[GUIDE] ROOT/UNROOT Stock ICS Firmware without flashing unsecure kernel - xda-developers
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719
Do I need root to install Siyah kernel from Odin ?
I'm trying one from sammobile... let's hope :/
The bad thing is I had no Yellow triangle at the beginning since I'm stuck in this boot loop or no boot to be precise.
Now that I have tried different things to fix it, it is still not working and I have my flash counter = 10.
I cannot even go back to the shop, is there a way to reset it knowing I cannot even reach the OS, I have only DL mode or CWM...
Use a stock rom for your region/carrier (or any stock rom from any region really), it doesn't really matter as I presume you'll be restoring a backup and/or going back to a custom rom anyway won't you ?
Samfirmware & AndroidFirmwares.net have lots of stock roms.
No, you don't need root to flash an Odin version of Siyah. So yes, you can flash that after you've got stock up & running to root your phone rather than re-rooting your phone by flashing a CFRoot kernel or using another root method. Just make sure the version of Siyah you're going to flash matches up with the stock rom you've got on (I.E if you flash a GB stock rom use GB Siyah, ICS stock = use ICS Siyah, etc, etc).
thank you again, I'm downloading the rom from sammobile matching my carrier,
Would you be so kind to send me a PM with your skype username or anything to "chat" with you ? I'm really worried and I spent all night already trying to fix it with no progress at all
Don't worry about the flash counter. That's the least of your problems while your phone is borked Worry about it when it's fixed. There's nothing you can do about the triangle while your phone is cactus.
When you've got it up & running again, use Triangle Away.
But first things first.

You're welcome.
Um, no. Absolutely not. Nothing personal, but if I did that for every person who's asked me for 'hands on' help since I've been here, I'd have spent my time doing nothing else. I don't do 'personal' with people from XDA (which is why I have PM's blocked except for mods).
Besides, you're going to learn much more fixing this yourself. I've given you a stack of information thus far, ball is in your court. Every answer to every question you could possibly ask is on this site. It just sometimes takes a bit of work/reading on your part to find it.

ok I understand.. it is just I have literally spent more than 8 hours on it and had not make any progress at all (even worse I cannot return it to the shop because of the yellow triangle).
I appreciate your help, it gives me a bit of hope but I'm in a very bad situation and I feel I have read and do so much already with no success at all.
I will try your option of restoring the one from Sammobile, I have tried other before without any luck, maybe this one will do... (5min left to DL it).
thanks again for your support
I know where you're coming from. The first flash I tried when I got my phone in 2011 borked because I was careless, and it took me a bit over a day to get the right info/files/etc to get it fixed. I know it's frustrating/tiring/annoying & you're wondering at the start whether you can even fix it. But as long as you've got download mode 99 times out of 100 you can save it.
And as I said, it's good experience; once you've fixed it, you'll be able to handle anything that comes up in future
Let us know how you go. I'm going to bed shortly, but I'm sure someone else will step up & help if you have any further problems.
You're welcome Happy to point you in the right direction.
I have flashed the rom, the exact same one as I had before everything happened...
if it helps, I flashed it from Odin 3.04 as PDA.
I9100BVLPH_I9100TMULPH_I9100BVLPE_HOME.tar.md5
I'm now back to the Samsung GALAXY S2 GT-I9100 logo and nothing happens.
I cannot use recovery mode,
I can use DL mode (it shows 11 counts and current binary as Samsung official.)
update:
I left the phone on the first logo for about 5min and it moved to the next Samsung Galaxy S2 logo, with the big animated S.
I'm waiting but nothing else is happening.
I'm still desperate to fix it.
One thing which can be relevant, whenever I try to wipe or format /data from CWM, my phone is restarting after a few minutes or is saying it cannot be done.
I can format /cache and /system.
Could it be the root cause ? Any way of fixing it ?
Thank you
update: I cannot mount /data from CWM, it says Error mounting /data!
is it the brick bug ? :|
Easy now....your device is still good.
Those animations should take like 1-2 mins when you flash a rom.
Now, you are completly sure that you are actually flashing the right ROM for your device model?
If so, just keep flashing stock roms until you're up and running again, so you can start from scrap.
I tried, the issue is as soon as I flash a stock rom (through Odin), then I can't get into stock recovery mode anymore, I have to flash GT-I9100_ICS_ClockworkMod-Recovery_5.5.0.4.tar to get back the recovery mode.
I tried to flash several times, I think it is down to the fact I cannot mount or format /data.
Which is why I'm wondering if it is the famous brick bug.
My device is GT-I9100 and I took the stock rom from sammobile:
I9100BVLPH_I9100TMULPH_I9100BVLPE_HOME.tar.md5 which is ICS 4.0.4 (that I had before trying to move to CM9.1 and having all this mess in my hands.)
flash this:
http://www.sammobile.com/2012/11/15/i9100xxlsj-%E2%80%93-galaxy-s-ii-android-4-1-2-jelly-bean-test-firmware/.
you are on siyah kernel right?
what you wanna do know is to get to whatever rom your flashing, forget about cmw for now.
this also might help:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457458
So it is not lost yet ? Not the brick bug ?
just to be sure:
you want me to install through Odin: Siyah-s2-v5.0.1-CWM.zip
then going back to DL mode
I flash through Odin: I9100XXLSJ_I9100OXXLS1_OXX.zip (coming from your link).
anything I'm missing (even if it seems obvious, please let me know as I'm maybe missing something important)
?
I still cannot do Factory reset... is it a problem ?
I dunno what kernel you are using, If stock 4.0.4 kernel you should flash siyah first (safe kernel, no brick bug), and then countinue flashing the ROM. Check out the brick bug thread in general SII forum for directions if you want.
BTW, Odin recognizes your phone right? Check it out, you'll get a huge long breath.
BTW 2: you don't have any kies applications running in your pc.....am I right? if so, CLOSE THEM ALL!
I did had stock 4.0.4 kernel when I first tried to follow CM9.1 wiki, and I did a factory reset through CWM... which is why I think I might have bricked it...
I have checked the brick bug thread (too late it seems...) but so far I can't be sure if I'm in this case or not as they say they can't even reach DL mode, and I can.
Odin recognizes my phone, yes, but anything I flash is stuck on the animated logo.
I do not have Kies installed, just installed the drivers.
Hey guys!
So once again I find my self asking for help.
So my phone decided to forget it's IMEI so I started following THIS guide.
The guide asked me to return to stock to somehow get the IMEI back.... so I followed THIS guide.
The problem is that after I flashed the phone I got stuck in the "Samsung Galaxy SII I9100" screen (where one gets the yellow triangle)
SO I thought to myself , meh it's a boot loop....so I followed some steps that had previously saved me.
But ever since the first flash I've not been able to access ANY sort of recovery, be it CWM or the normal android one.
I have access to download mode but that's it really....
Please help!
If you've got no recovery & the only option you've got is download mode, flash a stock rom. Then do a factory reset if you need to/assuming you get recovery back.
Then you can restore a backup/re-root your phone/flash whatever kernel or rom you want.

Thank you for your quick reply.
Here's the thing. I got the stock rom from here and it's the first thing I flashed as a kernel yet it got stuck in the first screen.
I doubt i made a mistake here (because I checked with my phone´s "about" ) but Maybe I got the wrong version? (would it stop working if so?) .
Get one for your country/carrier from Samfirmware & try that (Be careful if it's 4.0.4 & don't do a wipe until after you've flashed a 'safe' kernel).
Success! I got recovery mode.....
(used Cf Root)
Now how do I go to stock?
If you've got CWM, try flashing whatever kernel you were using before you started having problems (You haven't been using Rom Manager by chance, have you ?). If you still don't have any joy, try flashing whatever rom you were using in CWM.
If we're talking stock recovery but the phone still won't boot normally, still flash a stock rom in Odin.
Nope, no ROM manager.... I had what seemed like a stock ROM , just with a different baseband to work in the UK (it's a mexican phone).
Anyways i'm back to square one..... I tried flashing the stock kernel that I looked for in Samfirmware (the mexican, just in case...) and it's still stuck in boot loop... and again I have no access to recovery...... tried flashing CF to no avail....
argh <.<
You need to try flashing the entire stock rom in that case.

So it will be the same? or is there a different place to get the ENTIRE stock rom?
I got the one you mentioned from sammobile... will this include the phone / csc/ things?
by the way..... will it get out of the boot loop?
thanks for your patience...
Go to Samfirmware & search for an entire stock rom (which will have kernel, modem & CSC) for your country if there's an unbranded one, or get one specific to your carrier if there isn't unbranded.
Will it get you out of bootloop ? You'd think so, but without knowing exactly what caused your phone to throw a wobbly in the first place, it's hard to say definitively. But at the moment, you don't really have any other option given your phone won't boot normally & all you have is DL mode.
Edit - I've checked Samfirmware, there's 3 for Telcel; 2.3.6, 4.0.3 & 4.1.2. You can probably skip the GB one & choose either of the other two
And you're welcome

Ok, finally finished the download.
I'm soon to flash and I have a dumb question....
should I unpackage the file or flash it to the kernel as is? (its a.zip)
if I extract it it contains the .tar.md5 and SS_Dl.dll
Extract the tar.md5, flash it in the PDA section of Odin. Delete the .dll

Just before I break anything.... since this wasn't working just yet (and your explanation explains alot haha)
I got CWM again and I restored my previous mod /build whatever its called......
So I have a working device again. The question then is...... (and completely changing subject) IS there a way to resolve the no IMEI problem from this point?
I dail +#06# and get a blank imei thing.......
Any suggestions?
Forget the code. Check your IMEI in settings/about phone. If it's not 0049-----, then you're fine. If it is & you don't have an EFS backup, there are a bunch of threads on here which claim to be able recover your IMEI; you need to read them (No idea whether these methods work as I've never had to use them & never will because I make EFS backups). Either that or service centre who can fix the IMEI.
Edit -Also, I'm, rather confused. You claim you have nothing but download mode, yet all of a sudden have CWM working ? Sounds like you've left a lot of details/a lot of what you've been doing out. Bit of a waste of my time answering your posts in the end really.

Hello,
I was able to root my SGSII GT-I9100T using Clockworkmod. I then proceeded to flash Android KitKat but during that procedure, my phone displayed an error with the emmc (or something like that) and the installation was aborted. I can get onto the Recovery screen but I can't get any further, i.e. I can't get to my apps, messages etc.
I do not have a backup of prior to the error in the flash. The top of the screen I am able to see says: CWM-based Recovery v6.0.1.2-Siyah. I have wiped my data and cache with no luck. Everytime I reboot, it goes back to the same screen.
Also, I am with Vodafone Australia, and they do not appear to have a downloadable stock ROM.
I want to get my phone back to prior to rooting, obviously with the default settings (but this doesn't matter).
What should I do? Am I able to repair it?
Yes, you're able to repair it easily. If you don't have any backup, doing a wipe from recovery (which can sometimes fix this) isn't an option for you because obviously you'll lose data if you wipe. I'm also thinking perhaps you've flashed the wrong version of Siyah; you could always re-read (or read) the Siyah threads on here to make doubly sure you've flashed the correct build for your Android version (I don't remember which is which, been ages since I've used Siyah), and if it is a case of you having flashed the wrong build, flashing the right build might well solve your problem & give you a rooted phone. You could also find the PhilZ thread on here, read it, and flash that which should also help you to achieve that aim.
But...if you really want to go back to where you were before you started...
Download a stock rom for Voda AU from Samfirmware (Doesn't matter which one, up to you. You'll need to sign up in order to do so), and flash it following the instructions in the thread titled 'Flash Stock firmware/ROM...' stickied near the top of Q&A.
If you're unable to get a successful Odin flash/or it fails for whatever reason, find Hopper8's 'Odin troubleshooting' guide stickied in the General section & try the stuff in that thread, which should enable you to get through any issues & get a successful Odin flash which will take your phone back to the state it was in before you attempted to root it.
Normally flashing a one part stock rom like this won't involve data loss, but there are never any water-tight guarantees.
Edit - For future reference, if you ever decide to mod your phone even slightly, always back everything up before you do anything. Don't be like the 95% of people on here who do this & then end up in the **** because they didn't back stuff up. The reality is, if you're going to mod, stuff goes wrong eventually for everyone (as you've just found out).
Thank you, I will attempt to flash a stock from that website.
Just to clarify, I first installed CWM (not the Siyah version), and that was working fine. I was able to boot and do whatever. I then proceeded to flash an Android KitKat ROM but this resulted in an error. I then flashed Siyah (which may have made it worse) because from what I read at the time, it could have fixed my problem. So it must have been from the ROM, whether it be my phone being not compatible with it etc., rather than the wrong version of Siyah (although, as I said before, it could have made it worse).
Yep, rom incompatibility. Siyah stopped being developed with ICS, so won't work with KK roms; kernels need to be compatible with the Android version of the rom in question.
Doing what you did is no drama usually, worst case result is normally what happened to you I.E bootloop which won't go away without going back to stock, unless you get a bad flash. It's actually a good learning experience, because now you'll know how to recover if you flash stuff in future
I managed to flash the stock version and thankfully, my phone is back to 'normal'. Luckily I always had intentions on resetting it to factory settings. Indeed it has been a good learning experience :good: Thanks for your help, MistahBungle.
No worries. Glad you got it sorted
