For some reason, ever since running any version of CM, I've had bad luck trying to get DSP Manager to work...not sure if it's my music file format or what, but listening to the music flat makes me feel like I'm really missing out on the potential of the music quality this phone could really put out!
I ended up using Awesome Beats v5 on top of some audio fix file (which I'm having trouble finding the thread it was in, along with a link to this mod) in CM10.1, and it worked beautifully.
I've heard that Awesome Beats is not compatible with 4.3 just yet, unfortunately... Any ideas guys? Has anyone else found a solution to at least get DSP to not crash? Or have you gotten something like Awesome Beats working? As always, any input's appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Thank you! It works great once you get it installed. I had to download SuperSU over top of using Superuser to get the driver to properly install, which means some extra steps when installing nightly 10.2 builds. Guess I'll just have to skip a few nightlys

apparently on some devices it's hardware, some it's software. I got it on my sensation which didn't have it before.
i did try to install the beats music apk, it force closed. beats is a big gimmick. all the htc phones that have beats just have a pre-built equalizer that kicks in when u plug in a pair of beats.
Its gimmicky for sure, but HTC sure paid a hell of a lot for the brand. Maybe that's why they can't get android updates out.

Yeah but I am unable to replicate those audio levels therefore it does make a difference. I like that a professional was able to bottle up a sound quality and deliver it to my alcoholic ears. Maybe it would sound even better with quality hardware but I'll take what I can get.

I have flashed a beatz zip file from Evo3D, but no go.. The quality (EQ) is nice though in my Evo3D.. Maybe we need to check files and tweak it.. have not tested the updated zip..

I tested Beats on the Sensation for a while, but PowerAMP app (2.x) still beats it HTC never confirmed that it was following the hardware recommendations used for example in HP Beats Audio products, so indeed it might all just be software...

Yes it does improve the quality quite a bit imo, I own beats headphones and have tested this feature far too much (with and without beats headphones) on my dhd when we were porting it to Coredroid. Unfortunately, I was too busy with my Flyer at the time so I have no idea how it was done. I do still have the files we were messing with though so I can at least figure out how hard the job would be..
Maybe Lee knows but he seems to be pretty busy already, I'll ask Sergio or Capy about it when I get a chance. Would be nice to have it on these tablets

I would love some audio enhancement on the Flyer. I would prefer standalone i.e. Cyanogen DSP vs. one that forces you to use a particular player i.e. PowerAmp.
I agree it would be cool to get this. Not only in the Music app but in the video 1 too if possible. IMO it sounds nice + the beats notification looks awesome
It is going to be a lot harder to get it on the Flyer than phones like Sensation and Evo 3D. The reason is that framework was already built into those phones and it was a just a manner of tweaking the framework for the Beats options to show and work. I have checked the Flyer music framework and none of the Beats stuff is there hidden. So, I am not saying it is impossible but it would take a ton of work.
you can install the Cyanogen DSP Manager / Equalizer from this link. tested and working on rooted GB roms for me.

Hi
Works perfect on my Flyer, thanks 4 sharing.
I noticed the latest version of Google Music will actually integrate with DSP manager if you have it installed. It shows up in the Music settings menu.

No matter what ICS VM leak ROM I install, DSP Manager and Equalizer apps from the market do not work (even on the ROMs with DSP built in). The app runs, but the sound does not change when I change settings. On GB ROMs, the sound changes were dramatic, but on ICS, nothing.
On that note, when I enable or disable Beats, I hear an electronic popping sound (like plugging in a guitar with the amp already on), but the sound does not change. Again, on GB, the sound would change markedly between enabling or disabling Beats.
I did find a thread from the Sensation Q&A with a similar problem, but no viable solutions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457179
This thread also has attempts at fixes, but they do not seem to work: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494099&page=5
Anyone else experiencing this and/or anyone have any fixes? ICS sounds a lot better than GB by default, but I still like to adjust things myself.
Same here been waiting for an answer , heres a bump.

To add to my research, according to MikeyXDA, global Beats breaks DSP Manager, Volume +, etc.

Maybe someone can figure out a fix.
Hello, did someone found a solution? A solution how to make DSPManager works on any player like Poweramp or TuneIn.
Thanks!
If I am not mistaken you can only have dsp or beats installed. I know on cm9-DevilToast-0.6.1-shooteru dsp works and its system wide. Currently running that ROM now so I know it works.

Have you tried flashing the dspmanager.zip?

So, to follow up with my latest findings. The mods from coolexe work well with the sense based version of the ICS leak. Problem solved with that mod.

For pepe, if you don't find anything in the s2 forums, you could try to pm coolexe and see how he did it or if he would be able and willing to port it.

Hi there.
How to manage DSP on Cianogen 9 ROM?
I tried DSP manager and Awesome Beats but they don't work...
Tks!!
DSP Manager works fine for me as long as I'm running CM9 kernel. If you use another kernel chances are it won't work unless it's supported on the kernel side. If you're using Siyah, don't expect CM9 DSP Manager to work anytime soon; Gokhan is too busy to get it working.
Edit - If you're using a music app with it's own EQ/plugins, you probably won't notice DSP Manager unless you have EQ set to flat & any settings which 'colour' the music off.
Further edit - With Beats, I doubt you'll notice DSP Manager no matter what you do given how ridiculously bassy they are.
I'm using CM9 ROM and it doesn't work...

try clearing data/cache of that app and see if it wrk's
Already done, no luck for me...
Just use fe. PowerAMP for music and/or Equalizer for overall eq...
Got them, but i can say the result will never be like using the DSP, dynamics and frequency range are so much limited...
Rubbish. Clean your ears out.
Poweramp's EQ & other settings you can use to colour music are much better than DSP Manager. And get some decent headphones as well, that might help
Dear, I've been using Poweramp and Equalizer for years.
1st there's no compression, and compression is mandatory to get something good off the worst yamaha this mobile integrates.
Then, all effect are not so deep like with DSP, it seems that DSP uses some hardware aids.
I use Bose in-ear, except for low frequencies they're not so bad...
Common sense says if you have a problem with CM9, you ask in the CM9 discussion thread. But if you want to sit in this thread & hope someone comes along & helps you with a problem that seems to be only happening for you, be my guest.

I've tried many different dspmanager apks and libs and never managed to get any working apart from DSP Manager V1 which if I remember correctly was included in the release candidates of CM9. That still works if you take the apk from one of the RC builds and overwrite the one in CM9.1 and possibly other CM9 related ROMs.
A better solution though was to flash this instead - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1709497
Even though this is for a different model of phone, it gives you the latest version of DSP Manager on CM9.1 on the SGSII and it works perfectly.
Give it a try but remember...do a backup first before flashing!
I've tried the Jellybean builds, I've noticed the audio output is very low. I use my phone for music in my car through my auxiliary cord. With the samsung roms music is a lot louder. I did download VOODOO louder which did work well on CM9/AOKP builds but I can't find a solution for Jellybean.. I've tried extweaks with siyah jellybean kernel and jacked up the audio to 6DB but it doesn't do much at all.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

I had the same issue. AOKP JB as secondary ROM with Siyah 4.1, all the way up to the update ont he 9th. I installed DSP Manager, and it makes marginal changes maxing out the equalizer. Today I downloaded EX Tweaks to figure out how to tinker witht he CPU (locks up when 1600 max selected by the way, 1400 is the highest I've gotten working, but haven't bothered with 1500 since it's running great), and noticed it had audio options, and it only goes to +3, but it's a massive difference. Maybe uninstalling everything wipe, and fix permissions, then try with just Ex Tweak, and if it's not that different, put DSP on there. That might be the combination that's working for me. Not much of any significant increase in battery drain. Though I have an extended battery anyway so if it did it wouldn't bother me. Either way, try it out. Used to have my car volume at 22, to listen womehat loud/enjuyable, bumping it up to 26 for the 'good songs'. When I put JB 28 was the ok with like 35 being the good songs. Now, 18-20 is just right. Just for reference I guess. Just search for DSP manager in google for the apk. Hope this helps. I'm a f***'n savage noob so all I can to is trial and error.

go to the market and search for Beats audio. Do a Nandroid backup then run the app installer. It puts the drivers on your phone. It works and definitely increases the sound. My 2/15 is more like 10/15 stock. I've had to download Fine Volume Control to allow me to get the music to a volume that isnt too loud.
Okay so I've been using shostock 3 from a while. Its really a neat ROM but the only thing that irritates me is that it lacks DSP manager or ac!d audio or any such mod that'll help increase bass.
Can anyone tell me how I can port DSP manager or any such audio managing tool from cm?

It wont work at all on OEM based roms. The needed files will overwrite files that the system needs to function properly.
Apparently LionRom of i9100 forum does have ac!d mod. I wonder how they got it to function.

There are huge differences between the 2 devices. I looked at the rom stated and no where did it state they had it working. Either way you could always try and port the needed code into the current files or get an app like volume plus.
They have it listed in the features list, that's weird. Thanks anyway.
I might just port that ROM and see what's the outcome.
Good luck. Not sure why you wouldn't just use volume+ but to each his own.
