Hey everyone on xda,
I've been looking for a good keyboard that gives a good amount of space for typing. I don't care for the word prediction/auto correct features I usually turn those off because they're more of a bother than something that helps. I have tried swype (was ok but never truly cared for it) and the gingerbread keyboard (currently using, but the keys are a little to small) and I would like to know what your preference is for a keyboard.
TLDR - Which keyboard do you prefer?

if you flash axura, it comes with a modded htc sense keyboard which is awesome. The only bad thing about it is it doesnt respond as fast as gingerbread keyboard.
I personally like swipe and the GB one. The stock samsung keyboard isn't so bad either it offers plenty of space. Like stated above, you might like the HTC one here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=624416 look for the right one. There's some screenshots in there as well.
I'm a big fan of SwiftKey - currently half price on the market ($1.99 down from $3.99). I know you stated you don't like prediction/auto-complete, but SK's is terrific. I find myself able to type much faster with it than any other keyboard.
Alright thanks for all the replies. Would I be able to take the .apk file of the htc keyboard from the axura rom? I have looked at the swiftkey keyboard but I don't feel that spending cash on a keyboard is worth it when they're great keyboards that are free.

I also like SwiftKey and the voice input on SK seems to work better than the one on stock Android keyboard.
Bump to see if I would be able to take the HTC keyboard apk from the Axura rom and push it onto my phone through root manager.

this is htc_ime. just download and unzip. install the apk like you normally would from your SD card.
if you feel adventurous, use the htc_ime keyboard kitchen to make a custom keyboard for yourself. its super easy.
hit thnx
Thanks for all the replies and the link .
Edit: Can't hit the thanks button the xda app doesn't support it <.<

then just google HTC_IME XDA and it should be the first link that come up.
Do you constantly hit the period button instead of the space? I seem to do this only with android phones. Not sure why, I don't if its just me or what.

I do but changed keyboard to gingerbread keyboard

I do this way too often. Does anyone know a keyboard that does not have the period button to the right on the space bar?
I use ICS keyboard from Google play market. The space bar is wider and fixes this for me. The ics keyboard on the leak was garbage imo

Swype Tablet Beta using the SPen to swype is the best keyboard combo I have found for the Note. Easily the fastest and most accurate way to enter text that I have found...I think I type faster on my phone than I do on my laptop. Haha. That being said, I'm terrible at typing on a laptop/computer keyboard...never learne to use all of my fingers so I just pick at the keyboard with two fingers. Glad my career won't require fast typing.
As to the OP, I definitely run into that problem with some keyboards. Try the Swiftkey 3 Beta, you don't need to use the spacebar unless you're typing a word not in the keyboards dictionary, and it works really well; I think it's awesome how it automatically detects words and puts in spaces for you. Plus, it has some awesome themes to match ICS.

What do you find better in the tablet swype version versus the swype that came on the note?
I always seem to hit the b or v buttons so my text lookvlikevthis.
Give the ICS keyboard a shot. Its actually pretty nice. A major upgrade over the stock keyboard.

I like using the SPen, and the regular Swype buttons seem too large. Even with fat fingers I have no problems with the smaller buttons. Also, the tablet version had a tab key which is really useful for taking notes in class.

Can you say the name of the ICS Keyboard App you use? There are a bunch...
I do the same thing... I almost always hit the period / or Note "Write to Text" Button... I can't stand the ICS Keyboard from the leak...
Gingerbread keyboard is too small I do the same thing...I downloaded the ics keyboard on the play store its the same keyboard as gingerbread just bigger and blue bit I haven't had a problem yet.

Am I the only one who actually like the stock ICS Keyboard on the note?! LOL it's the first time I stay with a stock keyboard, I'm really enjoying it.

I like it too and the voice dictation on ICS is a whole lot better. I switch between the stock ICS keyboard and Swype.
I know one thing. The stock keyboard that came on the GNote is f*cking garbage.
Also I'm trying Swype with the S-pen for the first time right now and it's not bad, other than some punctuation errors I had to go back and fix.

I was watching a review of the American version(can't rem which carrier?) and it stated we had choice of three different keyboards...and none was Swype. Man I hadn't planned on rooting immediately, but to get the Swype keyboard, that seems bogus if it doesn't come with it, does anyone know for sure?
If I am not mistaking, I do believe Swype is built into the Samsung keyboard under a different name.

Thankyou, I love Swype. I was just reading through the pages at AndroidCentral.com and they said it this way:
"Those of you used to seeing Swype pre-loaded on Samsung phones can now find this functionality baked into Samsung’s keyboard; to enable it, check the box marked “continuous input” in the keyboard menu."
Is this what you've found cypher? or does the keyboard actually say its the "Swype" keyboard?
I'll prolly know first hand here in just a little while, my GS3 is "Out for Delivery" right now!!

Actually, that's exactly it. It's the "Samsung keyboard" but it's got the 'Swype' functionality. And it's enabled by default.
I don't actually use it or Swype though so I can't comment as to differences or shortcoming, etc.

It's its own keyboard but uses the same sliding motion to type. I find it more accurate than swype.

one thing that I miss from swype is the ability to hit a word after continuing on with the sentence and getting suggestions. Does anyone now if that option is available for the samsung keyboard? i looked but couldn't find it.

+1 to FlexT9 keyboard, although I believe the new Swype beta is basically the old FlexT9 and Swype combined as Nuance (creator of FlexT9) bought Swype a while back. The new Swype beta is the first keyboard I've liked over it. I just hope once the beta expires there is a way to purchase it for devices it doesn't come preinstalled on.
I don't like the new T9 (what they're calling Swype) that's built in to the GS3. I was used to Swype on my old Epic, but this version is nowhere near as good. It does have the option to select from a list of possible words, but I have the worst time getting it to accept basic words through "gliding" (not swyping). and end up just typing them when they don't show in the list of suggestions. Granted this is while using my right thumb in one-handed operation, but that's how I used to use Swype with no problems.
If you do type words it doesn't know, it will add them to the dictionary, but I have no idea how to remove them if it's a typo.
It does NOT have Swype.
Samsung keyboard has a swyping feature, but it's very primitive.

SwiftKey type method is good, thanks very much.
The stock keyboard is actually really accurate after you calibrtate it. before its crap... but after calibration its way better.
I find swift key annoying at times. Anything else out there? I love the z10 keyboard. Flicking the words onto the page. I remember on older versions of swift key you were able to choose what type of texter you are, precision or speed. I don't see it anymore unless I'm missing something?

That option is still there for swiftkey... same as always... Does it really affect much anyways?

I'm constantly being 'auto corrected' by this damned keyboard. Many of my texts invlove abbreviations and acronyms and they always get guessed to the nearest real word. I have to go back and re-type them back in. I don't want to have to add 60 words to my dictionary. Is there a way I can turn off auto-correct, or a different keyboard app you recommend?
Cool story bro
Download another keyboard like SwiftKey or Swype.

Man i feel your pain , couldn't believe the trouble i was having with the HTC ONES Keyboard also , i really wanted to kee a complete stock look , but i just couldn't take it anymore , so i just downloaded swype from the playstore i've acyually been using it for quite awhile now , on my s3 , and man what a difference , i would highly reccomend it SWYPE , it used to be free now its 1 dollar .................
I have always liked SwiftKey keyboard. Now it has flow built in so you can swype or text. This keyboard allows you to type with a lot of mistakes and it does a really good job fixing it. The swype keyboard in the play store works really well for swyping but typing normal on it doesn't work near as good. Depends on how you like to text more. I switch between both of them all the time.

I can't understand complaining about the keyboard on an Android phone when there are tons out there to change to.
The stock keyboard had Swype too....
I actually really liked this keyboard compared to my stock s3's.
I love this keyboard.. I have used all the other major ones and always come back to AOSP. But then I got the One and I love it. No issues and it's integrated with Google's voice keypad and is slick. No complaints here at all
