Hi,
Has anyone successfully managed to stream 720p .mkv files from a PC to your phone (And I mean stream, not transcode). The closest I have come is with E-strong file explorer, but when it plays, it plays 3 seconds, then restarts, plays 6 seconds, restarts plays 9 seconds etc..
I have tried pretty much everything, thought that cifs might help, but I can't find that anywhere.
Please let me know if you have managed to do it.
i once copyed one mkv file to galaxys 2, i just choose "just copy", then it can be played well on galaxys 2, what's your problem? i can't read your meaning clear
My galaxy s2 crashes and reboot when playing .mkv file it plays for a minute then hangs (no response) then reboots. It happened using stock rom and villian rom so it might not be the issue. I suppose since the stock video player doesnt support this format but isnt the s2 capable of doing so?

The stock SGS2 is capable of playing MKVs. Have you tried a few different MKVs from different sources to see if it may just be something it doesn't like with that particular video you are trying to play?
I haven't had the problem yet on my SGS2 but on my previous phone (Captivate) there were times when a certain MKV I downloaded it did not like and would stop playing. But it was rare
I'd definitely try some other MKV videos just to see if this always happens. An MKV file from somewhere else or totally different (not from the same source as the one that does not play) just to narrow it down. I play MKVs nearly daily during my train commute to work and haven't had any problems on stock player
You can also try Mobo player - its free. Just to see if it happens on that too
Actually i used mobo player and orher player but same issue in pc it plays fine il try differrent file with mkv format il see how that works since i only tried one file so far since it supports mkv it should be the file issue but it works fine in pc thanks ill let u know if it works

Its usually a sign of unplayable format of the file .
MKV is a container with many formats .
jje
Thank you guys, its just as you guys said some formats of mkv doesnt work but others does. Tried another mkv file and it works in the default player unlike the the former mkv where the default player said that the format is not compatible. Just to note the mkv with subtitle crashed but the one without subtitle worked. Not sure if that could be the reason
Btw how to use the thanks meter?

I have movies in AVI on a HDD...i dragged a few into the Movie folder i made in the GTab. I downloaded the MX Media Player...which they claim is the best. No movies play. Anyone know why? Ive tried and tried. I have VEGAn-TAB GingerEdition STABLE RC1. Qorks fine i like it. No real need to upgrade so far.
I have videos from youtube that i converted to i think AVI..they all play well thru MX. But not Full movies. Really weird.
Actually, I use Mobi player, Ill have to confirm the name when I get home today, but its been able to play everything Mk hasn't including the .mkv files I tried to play.
But its weird tho. Because all the youtube videos that i converted to AVI....they play fine. My movies are in AVI also..so i can't see why its not playing.
Ill try what you said also. Still experimenting with everything. Thanks for the reply.
Hey I think its actually Mobo instead of Mobi, also they just did an update.
Yea lol. I was searching Mobi for about 1 minute...then saw Mobo at the bottom. Gonna try that today. Sounds like its very good. Ill let you know how that works.
But strange...ill plug my GTab in the PC...and drag the movie in the movies folder...takes about 10 min for a 700-800 MB movie. But when it gets in there...ill see it in my SD card as 700MB..but when i click it to play it in MX...it'll say 17:00 for the time...and won't play. But its showing as a 1 hour or so movie in the Internal SD.
How did Mobo work for ya?
Man..i didnt try it yet. I been busy looking all over the net for the apps that comes up as "Not Compatible" in the Market. Found alot. But not my number 1 favorite app. "Spades Free" by AI Factory Limited. Can't get it nowhere.
I will try out that Mobo for sure. And ill let you know. Will do it tonight.
Did you also download the add on for the Mx player. I have the mx player and the mx video codec armv7 and I played an avi of green lantern, just fine.

I DID download the add on. It ask me for it before i could go on. It plays the AVI that i converted from youtube vids. But my movie...The Warriors....its about 700MB..i moved it to my SD card of the GTab...just like those other vids....wont play. Looks like its showing 17:00 min...but its actually a 1 hour 30 something min movie.
Weird...still havent tried the Mobo yet...been lazy lol. Gonna try for sure today.
OK how bout decoder settings, I have mine set at sw since hw doesn't work on this rom. When I first tried hw. Was set and it was all messed up til I switched and restarted the movie.

hmm..ill look at that. BUT..why would the youtube videos work? I converted with youtube to AVI. So its AVI also..just shorter then the movie. I doubt the length of the movie made it do that.
Plus..when i dragged the movie file into the SD card....took like 10 min...so i know it was the whole movie. When i look at the movie when its sitting in the movie folder in the SD card...it shows 1 hour and 34 minutes..but when i click the MX Player to see it..it shows 17:00. Im like what the hell. I gotta figure this out.
I agree want to figure it out as well just in case I ever run into it. I know I have my movie sitting on the micosd card, also an idea that popped into my head try transferring a different movie, could be something happened during transfer that it didn't all make it, making it only 17 min

"AVI" is too vague of a description. that is merely a container format, there are dozens of codecs that could be found inside.
Ill look into that. don't see why i would need to. Only because all my short AVI converted youtube stuff played. I mean....why would they play and not the movie? There both AVI...you know. Still havent tried it again yet. been playing around with the GTab too much lol. Adding stuff.
Didnt play in Mobo either. Did the same thing it did in MX Player. When i click the movie...goes straight back to the SD card..wont play it. Shows 12:34:56 as the time. But the full 701MB. And YES...the whole movie is on there. Im gonna freak out if i dont figure out why its doing this.
Don't really care if movies play on here..but i know it should. So its trippin' me out.
Edit: Just downloaded QQ Player. The only player so far that my movies time shows up in full..1 hour and 43 minutes. I thought it was gonna play...nope...1 second then back to the SD card. Dont know what the hell is wrong.
Edit 2: I just changed the Decoder Mode in QQ Player to "QQ Player" Decoder mode. NOW the movie is playing. BUT...its moving really fast. A little too fast. But its playing. The subtitles are ahead of the movie. And the movie itself is playing like its on 2x speed.
I realized that on the market there is mobo player and mobo video player, which one did u try, cause my tab is using video player
I forgot which one it was. It worked for my short AVI stuff. But did the same for my movie.
But QQ Player fixed it. QQ plays fine now. Maybe i thought it was going fast for a second. Plays perfect. If you read up about it...plays all of the movie extentions. So far....QQ is my player. I deleted Mobo but kept MX.
last night i decided to watch a movie ( star wars episode 1) and every few minutes it would stop and go back to the movie selection screen. I wasn't a set time it would stop like every 5 minutes or 2 minutes. Sometimes it would last 30 sec some times 15 minutes.
So i thought maybe it was the player so i downloaded rockplayer,qq,bs,mobo,mx etc. I tried them all and no luck it still did it every time.
So i thought since star wars as a mkv file it was problem, but no i played adventure time witch was a .avi movie and still the something. Then i thought well maybe it's the display timer so i turned it off, nope still doing it.
My prime is docked and its one of the primes with unknown serial and i have manually updated to ics. If any of that info helps.
I'm converted the movie unknown to mp4 and I'm going to try that to night and see if it still does it.
Any help would appreciated. thanks
same Problem. beginn after root maybe?
What app are you using for playback? I had similar issue with MX Player but did not experience this issue with BS Player.

I use dice player for mkvs and it is smooth like butter, best player i have found by far. If i play 1080p videos i have to copy them to the tablet but i can wirelessly stream 720p np from my desktop to myprime via es file explorer. I do hdmi out for most movies.
Hope this helps
BS player works great, thanks to whoever suggested it--I wasn't able to seek to certain parts of most of my movies without them crashing, but this player has no trouble finding any spot I want
Hi all,
I recently jumped the bandwagon and installed ICS leak on it. Tried Dagr8 Alpha 1 and 2. I also tried Collective. I really love those leaked roms (except maybe Alpha 2, so much lag in my case).
I need help with MX player. One of the biggest reason I bought the note was to watch a lot of my anime series when in the bus going to work/from work. I download animes in MKV format and the subtitles there are embedded. The anime I download are usually 1080p and 720p. I download this video size because sometimes I watch it on my computer too. So I just download it at large sizes so I can watch it anywhere with good quality.
Anyway, when I installed ICS and installed MX player, I'm having horrible out of sync with audio/video. It also gets worse when you watch the video longer. Sometimes out of sync takes a 4-second difference.
If I change from Hardware acceleration to Software, out of sync goes away but the playback is sooo laggy that you can't watch it too. ** Oh maybe not totally go away, as I just experienced right now (while typing this) that I had an out of sync issue even in software decoder. **
I never had any issue with GingerBread. All my anime video plays fine even in 1080p. I have not tried converting to Mp4 but I don't think it will make sense because it was working before with GB. I have a lot of anime and converting it would be a pain for me. Maybe there is a trick that I can do in ICS to fix this issue.
Are you guys also having out of sync issues with some videos in MX player? If not, please try playing videos in MKV with embedded subs and let me know.
I really want to stick with ICS. This is the only reason I'm going to go back to GB before I get to work on monday Please help, I really don't want to go back to GB anymore.
Thanks
bumping thread.
or maybe others can suggest a player that is like MX that uses hardware acceleration to play clips.
Mobo Player does not and I can't find any other player out there that uses HW accel for playback.
Thanks

Although I haven't watched any anime since I flashed ICS, my mx player has had no issues with any movies I've played. I'll download an anime movie and let you know.
Have you tried clearing the data/cache or even reinstalling?

Thanks. That would be awesome. I'm actually looking for a 1080p mkv movie video (even trailers will do) so I could just test it without subs. Surprisingly I can't find one .. lol.
If you are going to download, try mkv animes + embedded subs. I did other test with some other animes and noticed that not are all the same. Although all of anime have audio/video/subs sync issues but some of them only has .5 seconds lag. Some 2 seconds, extremes are 4 seconds. I would assume that whatever is causing this, is how the anime was encoded but when I play it with Gingerbread, not a single sync issue happens. So its either the ICS leak or MX Player.
Thanks again. Looking forward for your test results

Just downloaded ninja scroll episodes to test. The files are mkv with English subs. Everything seemed to be in perfect sync, but hard to tell on a subtitled video.
Just so you know, these are 65mb files so they're not of the highest quality but everything runs fine in terms of audio sync.

Thanks for the test. Yup, I failed to mention that if its 480p .. its fine. Whenever you raise the bar to 720p or 1080p videos then its a different story.
I still have few hours to test. Thanks for spending time and testing it

Ok so I downloaded ghost in the shell 2.0 and it's 720p mkv format. The mx player would not use hardware encoding to play it, but it played via "sw encoding (fast)".
I loaded up the subtitles and let it run. I skipped several places every 20 minutes or so to test. It played with no issues, audio and video were in sync with the subtitles.
You may want to try software encoding (fast) on your mkv files, maybe that'll work for you as well. You can adjust the encoder in the settings.

Ok I will try to do it. Maybe tomorrow since I already flashed back to GB. I only used software decode (not the fast one). But its weird that you don't have HW playback. hmmm. All my videos played in HW acceleration fine, of course except the audio/video sync.
Hmm ..
I actually found something interesting. MX player has issues with some subtitles with our leak ICS.
I tried Dice Player which also uses HW acceleration and I don't have any issue with the same video.
I also tried other ICS video players that use HW and there are no issues.
So, i think its just MX player.

I have a Captivate and use MX Player to watch Game of Thrones. 720p with H/W Acceleration...click on the music note next to the H/W tanlb and you should find more audio options. Try some of those.
