[Q] Cannot Boot to Recovery HTV Evo 3D 4G Virgin Mobile - HTC EVO 3D

I am running my HTC Evo 3D 4G (Virgin Mobile) with H-BOOT - 1.58.0000 with S-ON.
I started with TWRP 2.0 and began flashing ROM's that looked appealing. I settled on SENSELESS 1.7
I realized then that my 4g and WiFi were disabled. Upon further research learned that I had to S-OFF my phone. In order to do so, I had to return to the sock ICS ROM for my phone. Once I found it and loaded it on my SD card, I tried to flash it using TWRP. It gave me a "unable to load sideload/package.zip" or something to that affect (It has been a while). I hopped back on the forums and learned that my recovery image was failing. Unfortunately, the only way I knew how to flash a recovery ROM was using fastboot. Which SENSELESS does not facilitate.
After much hardship and tribulation. I managed to flash a ROM (D3rpICS-inbREDed-5.5) with sense and by extension, fastboot. I promptly flashed CWM (Clockwork MOD) v5.0.2.0 and tried to boot into recovery. It gave me the HTC start up splash screen, then reboot again, but started up normally. I cannot get it to boot in recover. Not even through adb.
Currently, I am running:
Android 4.0.3
Sense 3.6
inbREDed 5.5
H-BOOT 1.58
S-ON
How can I regain access to my recovery?! Any Help would be appreciated.

Make sure you turn off fastboot in your power settings. If that does not work try reflashing a recovery. 4ext is recommended for the 3d/evo v.

Please Help, Evo 3D won't boot pass the htc logo

So I tried flashing MeanRom the ics version onto the Evo 3d, and it flashed it. But every time it booted into the lock screen it rebooted itself. So I tried going back to the back up I made. But did not work, tried flashing a different rom but did not work also. It will go into recovery which was twrp but switched it to Ext4. So whatever I try it will just go into the HTC logo and get stuck there. I am at a loss, Please Help.
I will keep trying, but I'm running out of ideas
it does have s-on

I had this exact same issue after trying to flash Myn's ICS ROM with Touch Recovery on 1.5 s-on..How I was finally able to fix it was to delete the 4 ext folder off my SD card. Then I booted into fastboot and pushed TWRP recovery back onto my phone and flashed a gingerbread rom. If you need help pushing the recovery via fastboot, this thread is the answer. Be sure to give JTNiggle some thanks.

Good luck.

Doesn't EXT4 Touch Recovery take care of that for you? That was my impression. Off topic, I know..
evo rebooting
yes 4ext recovery takes care of that and you guys should be using it and make sure you have smart flash enable
I did try flashing a gingerbread rom with twrp but didn't work, which is why I flashed ext4
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
Well I used the dumlock method, which should have helped me flash the rom without manually going into my computer to flash via cmd right?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
Happens to me too!
To flash a new ROM, go to your computer, Command Prompt , type in the direction of your recovery. ex= cd\evo3dTWRP, then type in "fastboot boot recovery.img (or whatever the name of your recovery img is), press enter and your phone should boot into Recovery. Wipe all data, then flash ROM.
BTW: Do you have Smartflash Enabled in 4EXT,?
Well bootloader is working and the recovery is too, I used twrp but noticed it wasn't working so I flashed 4ext. But for some reason it won't boot up roms (of any kind) or even restore my backup. The recoveries will restore or flash the rom. But once I reboot the phone it will just get stuck on the HTC logo. Yeah smartflash is and was enabled.

Can't boot into recovery, device just resets

I just got a used, white HTC EVO 3D off of eBay, and it already been rooted and flashed with a custom ROM (no s-off though, as its hboot 1.5).
I flashed clockworkmod using the fastboot method, but it never goes into recovery. The Rom boots fine, its just when it goes into recovery, I get the white HTC screen, and then it reboots and goes into android. I've turned off fast boot in the settings, so I'm not sure what the issue is.

If you pull the battery and put it back, then go to hboot and select recovery and it doesn't go to recovery, then your recovery is corrupt or something, no biggie. Get flash image GUI and flash a recovery with it, or flash cwm with rom manager.
I used to have issues with certain recoveries when I had s-on, I think cwm version 4.0.1.4 was the one that worked for me.
Have you tried 4ext recovery? Link is in my Sig.
Well I have ROM manager and tried cwm 4.1.0.15 and got the same results.
Would 4ext work with any of the ics roms for the HTC EVO 3d?

Yes it will. I use 4ext and am running ZREDX ICS.

tryuing factory reste with custom recovery

HI. I have a big problem... I tried flashing an OTA file with CWM recovery, and now I get to the HTC white screen with no Quitely brillant below
My hboot is unlocked and I am s-on
I could probable y access fastboot, though I cannot tell right now I cannot use it on the computer I have, but if I access fastboot I have the regular options, and the buttons works. if I choose recovey , I see a android CWM and a small bue progress bar and it reboots back to "Normal" wich is being the white HTC screen right now
I am able to access Hboot which makes me think that I can probably get out of this by flashing back my original RUU.
Pleasae tell me that i am right:
I thought of trying a factory reste to start with , but I am not sure this will work because of the recovery I installed.
My hboot is unlocked.
is it bad Doctor?:crying:
try flashing the stock recovery, then flash the ruu again.
it seems to be leading to something like this ... I'll try
And it worked!!!
I was able to relock the hboot prior to running videotron Ruu executable file. This worked like a charm... I have learned my lesson. I'll wait for my turn to be pushed. Thank you all.

no, the bootloader needs to be locked to flash any ruu file
Dude flash stock recovery relock boot loader then flash the RUU most recent one. And if your gonna unlock boot again and flash another custom recovery us 4ext its the best one in my opinion a lot of options very simple nice user interface no troubles as of yet. Plus it basically like having S-Off cause of smart flash it flashes kernels together with rom. Its 3.00$ on market or you can get it for free from internet or other apps. If anything feel free to pm me

[Q] Semi Bricked HTC Evo 4G LTE, Please help

Hello All,
I rooted my phone a long time ago and went from the stock rooted rom to MeanRom ICS. I then wanted to try other roms. I use TWRP 2.6 and tried everything to install a new rom. A friend suggested that I S-off my phone to see if that would work. I then tried Moonshine to S-off my phone. Now the phone wont boot at all. I can still get in the recovery and bootloader, but that's all I can do.

Do you have a backup you can restore from recovery? If so, install your backup to get you up and running again. Otherwise, you can mount USB storage in recovery and copy a ROM from your computer to your phone, then flash the ROM. Remember since you're S-on you'll need to install the kernel separately from the ROM. Most Sense ROM's like MeanBean and Viper have a kernel installer built in; just follow the OP for whatever ROM you wish to install.
Also, you must either use Facepalm or Dirty Racun to gain S-off on your phone. Moonshine only works for those on Hboot 2.09/software version 3.16.
You can find links to Dirty Racun & Facepalm in the link in my sig.

All that green text means is that the bootloader is looking for a PJ75IMG file on your external SD card. There isn't one normally there unless you're updating firmware. It's normal.

I load the backup, but the screen goes black after the initial HTC boot screen. I don't know what's going on.
I've tried CM 10.1 Nightly, Ubuntu touch WIP, and a few others. Everything seems to do just fine while installing, and then I reboot to a boot loop or staring at the HTC boot screen for a while.
When I rooted my phone, I went from CM 9 to MeanRom. After I went to MeanRom it acted kind of funky. I've not been successful at loading any new roms after that. I think I forced something that the phone didn't like onto it and now its stuck with it.
Try flashing MeanBean. Make sure you wipe properly before you flash it.

Should I go for the newest one? (3.09 or and older version)
The latest version should be just fine. The rom version doesn't change much aside from the fact that 3.09 has the latest changes and bug fixes.

In addition, make sure you follow Mikey's instructions on flashing the ROM since you're S-on for the time being. His ROM has a kernel installer that requires an extra step to install the kernel separately from the ROM on phones that are S-on.

SuperCID for HTC Evo 4G LTE:
Code:
adb shell
su

[Q] HTC 3D Evo Stuck in boot

Hi there,
I unlocked my HTC 3d Evo GSM Uk phone and installed ClockworkMod Recovery v 5.0.2.0 and tried to install a ROM. Now phone is stuck at HTC boot screen. I can go to fast boot but recovery is not possible as phone goes to yellow circle with hat image and nothing happens. Any help Please please please
Download the ruu for your phone. If you have unlocked bootloader you will need to do this a little different but for now.. get the ruu. Boot into hboot then go into fast boot.. connected your phone to your PC and run the ruu.... this will take you back to factory.. it is possible to dissect the rom and customize it all but that is something to worry about another day

What hboot do you have? Are you S-ON? If you have 1.53.xxxx hboot then you can install only roms available for this hboot (mostly ICS based on stock Sense, but sense 4.1 available too). Flashing with 4ext recovery with smartflash enabled is the only option if you are S-ON. To install any other rom you must S-OFF your phone.

So, do you have adb/fastboot drivers installed on your computer? If not install them and reboot your phone on fastboot mode. You need fastboot executables from AndroidSDK (from google developer site) to install the 4ext recovery. Download the recovery here and move it on the sdk folder on platform-tools. While on fastboot open a command prompt on this folder (right click on the folder) execute the command "fastboot flash recovery 4EXT_Recovery_Touch_v1.0.0.6_RC1.img" without the quotes, you can rename the file to whatever you like and change the "4EXT......RC1.img" with the name you choose. After the flash completes you must reboot on recovery using the volume buttons from fastboot. Go on settings and you will find the 4ext smartflash, enable it. Search for roms on development and try them, if you like sense the only supported roms out there is I think Yet Another Sense and mwakious3drom. Otherwise you can choose a senseless ICS based on sense or MIUI rom.

This time I am using YAS v11 and it's very good a week now. I used cm11 and cool ics. I like the mwakious rom for its features but I don't want sense 3.6. If I had to choose between theese I would choose YAS because I like the sense interface and its the only sense 4.1 supported by devs. You can always try yourself some roms and see which suits you. If you have any boot problems, unzip the rom, take the boot.img and flash on fastboot like the recovery, this time with "fastboot flash boot boot.img". For any aosp roms you need to downgrade your hboot and s-off your phone.

To flash other roms from 4.1Jb and up you have to s-off and downgrade your hboot. I really dont know why your camera doesn't work, did you perform clean install (wipe etc.)?? If not try to do it. For stock rom you must run the RUU for your carrier model of phone. You can find on our forums the RUU you need. I' m happy your phone is back to life.

In reply to your inquiry about the stock rom, I've found over my months of lurking that many links don't work. This is the best site I've found so far for RUUs, and the one that personally took me back to stock today when all else had failed:

I encountered a similar issue today, when I tried to flash a new ROM. I followed mhnx's instructions and updated my 4EXT recovery from 1.0.0.5 to 1.0.0.6_RC1.
My bootloader states:
Every time, when I try to flash a new ROM (including formatting all partitions except sdcard), the phone (GSM) just shows the HTC logo and nothing happens. Do you have any ideas how to fix this?

Does the log of recovery contain any errors while installing? Check the md5 of downloaded file. If you're s-off be sure to disable smartflash. Try to re-flash the recovery too.

Thank you for your answer!
When I first tried to install a new ROM (CM11 ....) I got an error, which was caused by 4EXT (--> it was still on 1.0.0.5, see error is described here). When I now try to install a new ROM (such as a CM11- or CM10.2-ROM - the files are not corrupted, I tried multiple ones), I do not get an error during the installation process - the phone simply does not go beyond the HTC logo.
Shall I flash 4EXT 1.0.0.6_RC1 again or do you prefer another recovery?

Wipe all partitions except sdcard and mount system, data and boot on mount options. Install again and see if this helps. If not I would suggest flashing a ruu and see if stock rom starts. If you want to change a recovery you will be able to flash only roms until 4.3jb. Try it and if it succesfully boot install the 4ext application and get the recovery from there.
