so i had my phone face down on a clean school desk
i picked it up carefully and vertically (so the screen doesnt rub against the desk)
ans surprise! there are tiny scratches on the right and left side of the display
is this normal?
The other day, i had my phone face down on my backpack literally 4 inches above concrete. One slow fall later, i flip it over and there's one long horizontal crack across the glass. I think i'm going to get a shop to put a white screen on it now.
The outside bezel of the glass has a small ridge in it that elevates it VERY slightly when it is put face down without a case, so the edge of the front face is very prone to scratches. Mine seems to hold up pretty well. I have dropped it more times than any other phone I've ever had, and the only visible damage I have is a small chip about 1/2 a millimeter on the top left corner. It's small enough that my case covers it up.

the scratches are not visible by any means. but the fact that just by putting it face down scratches the screen is kind of disheartening.
anyways. if it gets any worse, i might just get a replacement screen.
Get the xtreme guard screen protector. Super cheap and lasts a long time

Mine fell out of my jacket pocket about 2' onto tile at a store when I was reaching down to pick something up it slipped out and landed flat on the screen, no damage except for a few minor scratches that are only visable when the light hits it just right. Forgot to mention that I did not have a case or any kind of screen protector on it.

The fingerprints on the screen are driving me nuts, and I'm thinking of trying the RainX solution floated on the forum.
BUT, I want to be sure I put it on the glass...and I'm not sure. I read around that the new ones come with 2 screen protectors. I never pulled any protectors off my screen, just took it out of the antistatic bag. I can't tell for sure if there are any on it...I seem to feel a ridge when I put a fingernail in the corner of the screen, but didn't know if the factory ones were more obvious than that.
I am a wooter...could it be that those didn't have the factory protectors? Or are they really this well installed that it's hard to know they're on?
The Gtablets haven't come with screen protectors out-of-box for awhile. Since at least late Nov 2010, I think.
Jim
Well that would explain it, thanks.
I got mine two weeks ago and it had a screen cover on it. I put a business card on the side between the screen and body and was able to lift it up

Hrm...tried that, but no go. There's a ridge there, but I guess it's part of the screen...
Maybe you got an oddball?
Get a micro fiber cloth ( in the cleaning supply section most food stores) a few quick swipes and no finger prints. If you get the smaller ones, they fit nicely in most cases.
I just bought a Xoom screen protector. Its not a 100% fit, but it protects the actual screen and has a notch cut out for the webcam in the perfect spot.
The screen protector just doesn't reach all the way to the edges of the tablet, so in landscape mode there is a 1/2" gap on the left and right sides and 1/4" gap on the top and bottom.
I'd post a pic, but i dont have enough posts yet, lol.
I swear the black plastic on the bottom back of the phone is engineered to get "scuffed" the first time you set it down . Other than that I have some lint in the little gap between the screen and the metal rim around the front.
I'm not going to use cases or screen protectors so all of this can be expected, just wondering how everyone else's is holding up? Any drops yet?

Wow, then I'm guessing we should all come back to this post in a month because you're proably our best durablity test example.
I HIGHLY recoomend a silicon case; protects the phone greatly, and makes it more sturdy to hold!
I got a complete package when I bought my GS2 for 5 euro.. A white and black silicon case, car charger and screen protector. Even though it isnt beautiful, I always keep my GS2 protected by a case
holding out for invisible shield now...
Absolutely fine for me, no marks whatsoever, no slow down of the software.
Have got a little dust around the edges between the edge and the screen.
i never use cases or screen protectors wether in mint or sh*t condition after 1 year who cares its time to upgrade.
sold my SGS after one year for AUD$350 and i never used a case or anything. (hopping to do the same next year with my SGS ii
Don't have any scratches or scuffs on it yet, but that's pure luck...I've managed to drop it twice and both times it landed on something soft. I love the phone but holding it can be a little awkward at times, it's angular shape and width does mean that I often have to shift my hands to accommodate it.
For that reason, I've put on a screen protector and I'm now waiting for an SGP Ultra Capsule Case to arrive. I'm hoping that will make it a bit more 'grippy' and less likely to slip out of my hands. My biggest concern is the camera lens, it seems terribly exposed there on the back of the device and it feels like I could damage it just by putting it down a bit too strongly.
Dropped mine 12 days ago. A juggle managed to launch it to a height of 5ft and then it landed totally flat screen down onto concrete with small stones on it. Shattered glass and non-working LCD.
Still waiting for Samsung to supply a replacement.

.... .. my condolences. Something like that is the only reason I sometimes fantasize about getting a case.
The dust between the screen, how do we get it out? wet qtip?
I got 1 tiny scratch on the bezel around the headphone jack. It happen the second day I had the phone. I've lost hope in the couple screen protectors I've ordered. I just ordered a zagg full body protector. I've got an a official samsung case coming now.
But I have never heavily damaged a phone besides my hd2. I'm like 48 out of 50 in keeping phones in great condition while not using a consistent case.
I truly hate the silver cheap bezel on all phones. Usually the only thing I tend to scratch.

Mine has a slightly weird hardware quirk since I first got it - the chrome border around the glass is slightly raised above the glass on right, but slightly below the glass on the left. It's like the glass is a bit angled / tilted up on the left.
Anyone else have this?
Nope mine is fine.
No scratches, have been using it for a month. I always put it on a cloth on my desk when I'm at home.
The dust between the glass and the plastic border annoys the **** out of me. I try to scrape it out with a needle, but they're too thick.

To remove the dust between the screen and the border all you need is compressed air. I was trying to get it out tonight by using my fingernail through a microfiber cloth to no effect. I pulled out my compressed air and that got it all out instantly.
On another note, I'm using the official Galaxy S II case until my Invisible Shield arrives in the next couple of days, hoping to convert totally to that and not have to use a case.
Can't you remove the dust in there with a can of compressed air and one of those straw attachments? Actually I might go out and buy one.
I definitely agree with the raised bottom on the back of the phone; mine's scuffed quite heavily although the front of the phone is fine, and IMO that's all that matters. A phone's meant to be used and it'll get scratches and whatnot over time.
I've got a feeling i'll be replacing this further down the track anyway since most of my phones don't look too healthy after the 18 month mark. Also have full insurance/warranty cover...if I happen to lose it they'll issue me a new one. Gotta love Korean telcos.

Mine is the EXACT same way, I was wondering if it was just mine. Good to know its just a quirk of the phone.

tiny scratch at the back, at the plastic bump, fine elsewhere
After 20 falls , uncountable number of bumps... , keys and phone together ...
And finally today!!! My screen got scratched but just a teeny bit!
And its on the screen protector!!
All i can say is this phone is tooo durable...
Tell me your experiences with screen getting scratched
My back cover got a (very) little clicky after some drop from table to hard floor, just bend it hard with hand and no clicky now, lolz. The screen protector is covered with scratch now, not a problem.
But the soft touch started to peeled off on the corner now. I have another white back cover but it's not look as good as the black one (really wish for a glossy black one) anyone know how to convert the soft touch one to glossy?
The soft touch on my black jack (i607) in old days: bruised as hell but never peel off.
Me too facing the peeling of the back cover at the corners. Can anyone suggest from where i can buy another back cover ?
me too. im looking for someone who sells a back cover for my xperia ray
I got my camera sensor scratched (sort of, it looks like it lost a layer of plastic in a few spots), the back cover losing it's matte surface in the corners, and some of the paint in one of the metallic corners and I take maniacal care of it and never dropped it once.
I also had 2 white pixels and could not get it replaced because unless the screen has FOUR bad pixels on the same line they are not supposed to replace it as it's not defective.
That being said, do you think it's more likely to win at the national lottery or to have 4 dead pixels on the same line out of 409.920 pixels?

Back cover no, sorry; but after you get one, a gel cover like this one is handy. I'm very satisfied with it.
But i will become yellow after a time .
I have the same just buy one made in leather it cost 3 dollars with free shipping on ebay
I have buy back cover on ebay,.. original.
yeah I have a scratch on the screen, even is have a screen protector
(in whisper) isn't this the development forum?:silly:
WELL theres no General Forum for The Ray ...
Just two little visible scratches in the protector screen, and some more "invisible" (they're only visible at the sun).
Yes, very durable phone. I love it.
I have a little crack on my screen, don't even know what it's from..
actually i'm an ROTC Cadet which means all the things in your pocket usually bumps to stone whenever senior officers give you exercise. my ray never had scratches on the screen, but a lot of scratches at the back cover, i must say that this beautiful monster is really durable.
if you wear it inside a case there should be no need for other protections
:cyclops:
I had a few drops but was smart enough to have a rubber-plastic mixed cover for it. It has saved me from quite a few heart attacks.
I have dropped it a couple of times but the phone has not received any damage... but some days ago I noticed that the crystal of the camera sensor has some blur on it because of alcohol splatter (I don't think these marks could be removed ) and also two red pixels on the center of the screen that are only noticeable when I set a black background... other than those the phone is perfect

Exactly, I can't see our phone in the general forum for mini/pro/active so...
OnT: Mine have managed too stay pretty shiny but I almost missed the bus going to work one day so I had to run my a%# off and suddenly I feel a jerky motion from my headphones and the music stops. Man did that phone fly or what, I think it was 10 feet between the phone, battery and backpiece :/
Just put everything together and it was like new besides a scratch on the screen (and I don't even use screenprotection )
Still, looks pretty good though.

That looks like a screen protector to me on the second picture.
yeh looks like screen protectors
Lot's of scratches... I think the screen isn't so good what iphone 4 had but still better phone than any apple/samsung
Hi All,
Was enjoying some righteous sushi the other day and spilled a glass of water on my 6p.
Immediately dried it off, removed from case (water was in-between phone and case) sucked out water from the USB, speaker grills, headphone jack (yuck!, but you do what you have too). Was not fully immersed, about half glass of water splashed directly on screen of phone.
Seems to be working fine today, but only time will tell if corrosion damage rears it's ugly head.
Protected by: Spigen clear case + glass screen protector.
Bummer. Next time drink Saki instead of water...
I've taken my phone to the beach, it's been rained on in the field, I've dropped it face down from about 4 feet, still going strong and very minor scuffs on the corners. I have it in a Spigen "Rugger Armor" TPU case and intelliGLASS HD screen protector, which upon initial inspection I thought my screen had cracked on the bottom half. After lifting the screen protector up to verify, it was actually the protector that cracked and not the actual screen glass. I was surprised because I didn't realize the protector had similar characteristics to actual glass. I would definitely purchase again.

You should have turned it off asap and let it dry for a few days before use, the real damage occurs when electricity tries to flow with water interruption, if its completely dried after you should have no issues.

Ive heard some complaints of people saying that the Standing Clear View cover is causing scratches on the screen in the corner area where the circle on the lid of the cover is. Is there anyone here that has experienced this? Also, could you post pictures of the scratches?
If you've used the cover for some time, and DONT have scratches from the circle, I would love to hear from you too.
For how long have you used the cover? Do you keep your phone with other stuff in your pockets/purse/whatever? Are you happy with it?
Yep just noticed them recently. They appear as a cluster of horizontal light scratches in the area of the magnet. Took it to Samsung store and the first thing they ask is am I pressing down on the magnet...
I've used the clear view cover since I got the phone 3 months ago. No scratches on the phone's screen, but the outside of the cover has a couple scratches now.
Usually have the phone in my (relatively clean) pocket.
I guess it's something to look out for if you're near sand or such like, but it isn't a problem on normal days.
Yes - scratches where the disc touches the screen. It's possible that around the disc dirt got in and I didnt notice. I do clean off the screen and the slightly rubberised inside daily but I still noticed scratches. Also the rubber coating on the inner left side (the bit with the disc) is starting to come off on the screen. A few times every day I have to clean the screen of this coating in the 4 corners.
I've had the case on since day one. nearly a year now. Very annoyed that a £50 case has done this.
