[Q] safestrap rom will not boot - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Ive recently rooted and installed SafeStrap on my me7 S4. I've been having trouble flashing roms. I want to either do Cyanogen mod or Google Play edition. I tried flashing the both of them with a permanent black screen after the recovery splash screen. When I was flashing it said it failed and I wiped the dalek then it said flashed successfully. I didn't know exactly where I should post this so sorry if I did it in the wrong place. Do you need code to figure this out?

If it doesnt use a touchwiz kernel it cant be used so cyanogen is a no go. It states that in the safestrap thread. Idk what gpe uses so not sure there.
Hit thanks if I helped you out. Doing a little bit of reading goes a long way. Sent via tapatalk.

Could you tell me what the kernel module does? ive tried installing eclipse then the module and the same thing happens, black screen after the splash screen. How long should it take to reboot in this case?
Thanks

Module just matches the kernel modules in the ROM to the stock ME7 kernel which we can't change for now.
When you are installing the ROM what are you wiping?
You should wipe Dalvik, System, the Data in advanced wipe
And ofcourse install the module immediately after the ROM before booting

ROM mod manager

Can I use ROM Mod Manager to install this ROM?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1752232
Don't ever use ROM manager. Ever.
Read the stuff linked in the sticky at the top of this forum. And I mean read *all links*. They'll show you how to mod your phone safely and teach you the ins and outs of modding an SGH-I777, and keep you from bricking your device. Once you've read everything (and please read carefully! reading more than once may help), if you don't fully understand anything after that feel free to ask questions.
Stop making so many threads and read around

I know it's not always the fastest option, but searching for an answer that you're not sure of really is the best way to learn. The more familiar you become with the search tool and which terms you need to find your answers, the easier it'll be for you here. Not trying to be a **** at all, just letting you know. Rom Manager had been known for a long while now as being buggy and unstable for our device. Not saying it doesn't work for other devices extremely well, but our kernels come packaged with CWM, which is different from most phones, as you can normal flash a recovery separately from the kernel.

I made the ROM Manager mistake
I didn't see the warnings about using ROM Manager until it was too late.
Now here's the weird thing that happens (big problem!). As soon as I read the warning, I uninstalled ROM Manager and flashed a new kernel and did a factory reset. This should have wiped ROM Manager from my SG2, but it didn't. When I go into CWM Recovery mode, the ROM Manager icon (the circular arrow with the hat) appears at the center of the screen. When I try to execute a command in CWM, whether Wipe data or Install from SDcard, the screen goes black except for that icon. Nothing happens. The only way to reboot is to pop the battery. The phone works fine with Gingerbread and the phone is rooted, but I want to be able to flash an ICS ROM from xda.
Somehow, some aspects of ROM Manager remain on my phone.
Any ideas on how to get rid of it?
Thanks in advance.

I used this version of CWM: SGH-I777_ClockworkMod-Recovery_5.0.2.3
So, instead of using the Power button, I use Home? That simple?

and you've been very helpful. But here's a question for you: How is someone supposed to know that this version of CWM requires Home for Enter instead of Power. Believe it or not, I've flashed a number of ROM before and it was always Power.
In any event, I am back on the road to flashing a new ICS and I thank you for it.
I love XDA...even with the occasional good-natured abuse!!
Many thanks...

[KERNEL]Droid DNA Cubed Kernel Stock/System Write/Unsec ADB[01.23.13]Added HSIC fix

Okay folks. I built this for those of you who prefer to be on a mostly stock kernel.
It is all stock except you can write to /system, and adb shell as root.
I will not be modifying, maintaining, updating, or otherwise doing anything else with this.
If you are coming from my other kernel, you need to flash the return to stock zip in the OP of that thread first to restore your files.
Enjoy!

the modified cubed kenels are giving me issues... I only had one lock up in 2 days but I just woke up to another lockup... think I'm just going to have to live without sweep2wake... just flashed the stock/write kernel... I'm not angry I'm glad to see development making progress and every phone is different... battery life is fine with me on stock but its better on the modified kernel but I can't risk my phone being locked up in the morning on a work day if my alarm doesn't go off

since the kernel now supports write to system you can now root from the phone interface instead of recovery now... so yes SU's should work fine
Thanks for this! I've been enjoying the bullet-proof stability of UKB with stock kernel. Delighted to now have a writable system without the ups and downs of undervolting, overclocking, etc.

Thank you, very much. I, for one, had some issues with freezing and SOD's on the more customized kernel, but I just kept my mouth shut and used this one, rather than make a big deal of it. I appreciate the work you do and wish there was some way I could help with the development of the other kernel. Not that you need it, but I'd be happy to do any testing and provide logs, should the need arise. Thanks again for all the work. It is most definitely appreciated!

I'm fairly proficient in adb... definitely not a pro, but I am able to work my way around. I'm going to try 2.3.1 and see how I do with it. If I experience any issues, I'll definitely post any info I can. I want to get more active in the community to give back to those who have given so much to me over the years. Without XDA and dev's like yourself, I might as well have an iPhone.
I also promise to make every effort NOT to go nuts about anything, However, bananas are an entirely different matter. ;p

Demigod Crash Mode

It seems I'm stuck in the Demigod Crash mode with a Kernel crash.
Just flashed the latest kernel from mystery emotionz with the latest vanilla rootbox and minimal gapps.
I've tried rebooting over and over but I'm kinda at a loss as to what I should be doing. Any help?
Thanks! :good:
I'm also unsure what "QCT's Memory Debug App" is. If I need to get that somewhere, I've tried searching but have yet to hit anything besides discussions regarding it's contect in this crash screen, I'd appreciate a heads up.
Never felt so naked as I do now with no phone lol
Volume keys are reversed in demigod. Whatever it says for reboot, use the other volume key. Up I think for reboot.

If you have MDK build, you're one of the very lucky people who can run arbitrary custom ROMs and don't need to use Safestrap. Please avoid upgrading beyond that as it will limit what you can do.

[Q] Verizon MK2 S4 Stuck After Flashing HDRLS12

Recently flashed the RLS12 Safestrap rom for my GS4, Verizon on MK2. The flashing and install seemed to go smoothly, wiped etc with no problems. Ran through the aroma installer, again, no issues. Flashed the MK2 verizon modules and rebooted. The bios boot sequence came up (pretty sweet BTW) and all seems fine. However, it stops at "Beginning Android Boot sequence" and won't go any further. I've heard rumors of this first boot taking upwards of 10 minutes, but I've tried this 3 times now and let it sit for as long as 35 minutes without any results.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks!

Im having the same issue and I even flashed MJ7 and tried to flash it too. I don't even get to the boot screen I have a black screen but a flawless install up to the reboot. I have flashed plenty of hyperdrive with the correct modules I even tried different versions of hyperdrive. The OP stated compatibility with everything up too MJ7 that's why I went back to MJ7 still no joy when I as originally on MK2.

You need to download the RLS12 Safestrap Rom not the regular RLS12.
The regular one is for MDK TWRP recovery rom so it doesn't boot.

I would suggest deleting rom slot 1 that you installed it in (assuming) and starting over. This has been reported as helping a bad install.

Just making sure since that's how I fixed my problem.
Unless some help, don't reply just to make a point.

How did you delete it and reflash? I have the exact same issue, and I can't do anything on my phone. I can access the stock boot screen but everything that I have tried there doesn't work. I can also access "Download" mode and thought maybe I should flash again using Odin?? I dunno.....

You delete ROM slots from within SafeStrap. Just activate your stock slot, then go over to whatever slots you have and I usually formatted and then deleted them. Fairly simple. Then try creating a new ROM slot and reflash the ROM and modules.

I'll give it a try. I'm about to "SafeStrap" this thing to a cement block and throw it into the lake I'll follow up and let you know if it works.
Thanks.

Lol
Well once you get the hang of it , its fairly easy to use SafeStrap. And unless you mess with the stock slot, its really "Safe"
Good luck let me know

UPDATE: Hey buddy - I got it fixed yesterday. It's amazing how much you learn by making mistakes. My first mistake was, as mentioned in an earlier post, I got trigger happy and flashed to my stock rom slot instead of setting up a custom slot (stupid me). Looking back, I can't believe I did that. My second mistake was trying to reflash the incorrect stock rom file using Odin. I finally got the correct one from SamMobile.
Anyone having trouble on galaxy phones should check out rootjunky's youtube posts. He's great!! You have to be careful though because he jumps around on different builds. My only question now is whether or not Hyperdrive is compatible with the MK2. Everything I see is for the MDK and others. Is the build number critical or is it more critical to have the compatible recovery or both? I thought I would ask before I try flashing this rom again. Also, any suggestions on compatible MK2 roms would be great. I'm having trouble finding any.
Thanks,
BC

It's really the most complete and helpful site I think for our phones.
Just remember that since you're on MK2 4.3 that whatever SafeStrap rom you flash must also be based off 4.3 as well, and you will also have to flash MK2 modules zip file as well.
And I'd also like to say for the record since were here.... You're most likely going to want to hold off on the KitKat update from Verizon until there are proven and reliable root methods and SafeStrap is available. .. that is if you want to keep flashing ROMs.
Just my two cents lol
