[Q] Randomly lost root - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I've had a new custom ROM for a few week and everything is working fine, but out of no where I seem to have lost my root access. Nothing else is wrong with the phone and the custom ROM is all I have changed on the phone. I've tried to reroot it with various methods to no success. Does anyone have any solutions?

Thats not going to make a difference. The recovery flashable zip should have worked which leads me to believe something else is up.

Its hard to say but you could always flash the mdk stock image reroot then re rom. The motochopper method didnt work for you?

When asked if you were running MDK or Safestrap, you answered "Neither". But you're using TWRP.
Is this a Developer edition S4? What build number shows up in Settings/More/About phone?

If you have MDK build, you're one of the very lucky people who can run arbitrary custom ROMs and don't need to use Safestrap. Please avoid upgrading beyond that as it will limit what you can do.

No, motochopper didn't work. I was going to try that but is there any way I wouldn't have to lose all my information? I use Titanium Backup, but since my root isn't working, I can't use it.

Are you making sure to check and compare the md5 from what you've downloaded to what the dev has for each ROM to make sure they did indeed download without any error?

Haha, fair enough. I figure it's always best to start with the easy questions, don't want to replace a motor when all you needed was an oil change, you know?
What recovery are you using? TWRP, or CWM, and have you tried flashing with another recovery other than the one your currently using?
I know it seems dumb, but sometimes some ROMs don't like to play nice with certain recoveries.

Want to remove SS recovery and root

Hey guys, I am trying to get recovery and root off of my phone so I can get the phone back into un-voided warrenty state. I know the safestrap apk. does not fully remove it itself, and that there is an alternative way by using adb. Which I have never used but have it downloaded. I am just asking for some guidance here so I can do this properly, thanks in advance!

hot spot option

Just received my note 3 from sprint with mj4, i then updated to NAB and on to NC5, but what i noticed is I dont have a hot spot option toggle in settings- connections, is this something new ?
Sprint has disabled it until you pay for the service. The flashable hot spot mod is deff the way to go. I don't even get LAN errors through Xbox live with 4G. Someone more helpful will chime in with a link soon.

what i did was after updating to nc5D. i odined recovery...then flashed latest super user zip via recovery. upon booting it will say supersu detected knox do you wish to disable. hit yes it should reboot and upon rebooting your good to go. im running lean kernel with my setupof stock rooted nc5D. everything works. froze what i didnt want in titanium backup.

really depends on if you care about knox being flagged. if you do i dont think there is any option to root as of yet. i believe cf auto root trips knox. of you dont care you hae a world of options. keep in mind any recovery cwm philz or twrp will trip knox....as well as any custom kernels. so let me know what way you wanna go.

[Q] Custom Recovery wont Load

I have an SCH-i545 and It was recently on NK1, I downgraded to NC5 and used towelroot. Did a factory wipe from the recovery, but now I cant get either TWRP or CWM to load? It only uses the stock samsung/verizon recovery, and this is not letting me flash any custom rom. Did I miss a step somewhere? I've got SuperSU installed aswell.

Any firmware THAT IS NOT MDK doesn't have a bootloader unlock. TWRP, CWM, Phillz will not work. Only Safestrap does.

You can flash stock based Roms with safestrap still. You just can't flash a non stock kernel. Which means stock Roms only.
I ended up going with the cleaned stock nk1 and I'm digging it, once I get on my pc and can search better I'll go with eclipse perhaps. The Wi-Fi won't turn on though, gonna head over to that post and figure it out. =) thanks again

That's not entirely true. See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-verizon/development/rom-kitpop-v1-0-t3019132

Custom recovery for rooted ZVA?

I'm rooted on ZVA and I'm wondering if there's a way to have a custom recovery without getting the security boot error and not being able to get back to stock ROM? Not sure if I'm ready to go to a custom ROM with the only way of returning to stock being LGflashtool.
You can have the stock rooted ZVA ROM downloaded and flash that after you flash the recovery but i would recommend to have it saved to an external sd card so it doesnt get deleted when you wipe your phone first thats why i like having a 64gb sd card for my phone
Ok, I had thought about that but really wanted to be able so use the original. Wish LG didn't make it so difficult now, makes me miss my Optimus G sometimes.

I'm not really sure if you can get custom recovery for ZVA.
If you look here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=55225699 it'll give you links to what you need.
Most of us go the ZV4 way, as that's what most things are based from.
Just download flashify from play store. Open it, click yes to give it root access, click recovery image, click download twrp...follow on-screen instructions. Easy peasy. Twrp on rooted ZVA.
