Hello All,
I had Jellybam 10.2 and had trouble moving to 10.3 update. So....
I tried to flash a newer version of Philz CWM 5.10.9. it failed and threw the screen on the phone to Phone -> Yellow Triangle -> Monitor, followed by: "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again".
I tried the Vol UP & Vol Down and Power button to get in to ODIN mode download mode - just futile - could not get it.
I installed the Kies and the USB Driver - the phone is recognized as a Samsung Mobile CDC Composite device and Samsung Mobile USB Modem but it shows as Unspecified - Gadget Serial in devices and Printers in windows 7. Kies is unable to connect to the phone.
Have I bricked the phone? Is it time to move on and get myself a new phone? Any assistance would help.
Please advise. Thanks
Brenda:crying:
No. You should be able to recover the phone easily.
You can find the various resources you will need in the Download Repository.
Make sure you have the correct usb driver installed on your windows computer. Look in the add/remove programs dialog for Samsung USB driver for Mobile Phones. This should be present because you installed Kies, but if not you should install it first.
Download a stock firmware. I would suggest the latest version, UCMD8. You will need the full version.
Download a version of Odin3, preferably v1.85, if you don't already have it on your pc. Open oden on the desktop.
With the phone off, connect the phone to the computer with the USB cable. Now hold down all three buttons vol-, vol+ & pwr. When the first screen appears, hit vol+ and you will be in download mode.
Now put the firmware tar file in the PDA slot of Odin. Start. Done.
Let us know if you have any questions.

Hei, Im new to the Samsung Android Phones but I have had HTC Android Phones since the G1 and until the HTC Desire HD and Xperia Arc.
But now Im stuck, I cant get niether Kies nor Odin to recognize my device, let me tell you how.
1. When I try to connect to Kies the *Android MTP driver* fail to install.
2. So Kies will go on an endless Connection journy and my devices tells me its connected.
I have reinstalled the drivers many time. tried with both USB-Debugging mode on and off and still no result.
Ok, but thats not the worst part because i could careless about Kies since my interrest is in rooting the device.
Now if my device is powered on and the USB-debugging mode is on Odin finds it (mark it as yellow)
but when I put the device is in Download mode Odin doesnt find it and I cant flash :'(
Im confussed, i've been going at it for days now with no results. help me please...
When you're in Odin, have you disabled Kies? Both the .exe and the system tray?
What's your current firmware?

I mean I close Kies when using Odin and vice versa. you think Kies is the reason for Odin not finding the device in download mode?

Well frankly that MTP device error is a PITA, it happened for me with my S8500, did everything possible, couldn't solve it until I installed Win 7 x64. So may be a fresh OS installation could/should solve the problem.
If you can't do that Odin is the only option as you already know.
And make sure that you are pressing Vol Up+Home+Power button to enter Download mode and press the Vol Up key to continue.
Regards.
It seems that Im ably to enter Android System Recovery by pressing VolUp+Home+Power and Odin seems to find the devices find, but thats not Download Mode I guese, do I brick the phone if I flash from here via Odin?

You can't flash from Odin in recovery, and I'm not sure I've heard of anyone who can get recovery but not download. Something is FUBAR'd...
I'll let ithehappy and jj take over, they've more experience than me. But since you're in recovery, a factory reset seems logical.
Anybody have any idea? please help..
Did you try factory reset? And have installed the newest version of Kies, as opposed to re-installing old drivers?
Uninstall kies and the drivers
Download these driver
Install them
Put phone into download mode
Flash a rom or kernel using Odin
If this doesnt work
1) change USB ports
2) reboot computer
3) try another computer if you have one close by
Or if you have Clockworkmod recovery installed
4) boot into CWM recovery
5) connect phone to computer via USB
6) select mounts and storage
7) select mount USB storage
8) your phones internal SD card will now mount with the computer, copy a CWM flashable zip of what you want to flash to the phones sd card
9) go back to main menu
10) select install zip from sd card
11) select chose zip from sd card
12) flash!
I've had SGS2 for a couple of months now and it's currently running 2.3.3 stock rom. I never tried to update it because I can't manage to install Kies.
When I install Kies, the program installs fine, but I always get a Windows popup message saying that drivers failed to install. When I start Kies and connect my mobile phone to USB, nothing happens in Kies, but my phone displays the message "Connected Press the home key to quit Samsung Kies". If I disconnect the phone, Windows popup displays the message "USB device not recognized". I've tried this on three PCs (running WIN7 64bit, WIN732bit and WINXP 32bit) and same thing happens on all of them.
Does anyone else have problems installing Samsung drivers?
Is there a way for me to update my phone in this situation?
Will ODIN work without proper drivers?
Is Mobile ODIN a solution to install ICS?
Just realised I forgot to enter the title of the topic.. Sorry about that.
Hi yer 3 things you can do the first thing you should know is you don't need kies to update if you navigate to settings then about phone then if you see at the top of the list is check for updates click that when you know your area is eligible for an upgrade
The other way is to find the appropriate Rom for your phone eg network branded and right modem. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 There all on here then flash it via odin
The third way is one of the best ways as it gives you access to lots lots more Rom and features. This requires you rooting your phone and installing a custom recovery and flashing custom Rom that way.
I haven't gone into any grate detail but you have the options now all you need to research about them here on the xda. Good luck
Ps. Odin requires you your phone your to be in download mode (Press the Volume Down button + Home button + Power button). Plug your phone in when its in download mode and let windows 7 download the drivers.

I have the drivers installed and they work great whenever my phone is not in download mode or odin mode. As soon as i go into download mode the drivers don't recognize it. Odin has nothing in the ID:COM. what am I doing wrong?
Is it still connected to the same usb connector, and samsung kies finds it ?
I had problems with the "non orginal" usb a to mini b cable so i took the orginal one.
And you need to have the usb drivers for kies installed, and when you try odin
make sure that kiestray and keis is terminated and nothing else communicating
with the device and put the phone in download menu by holding "volume down - home and power" down until it boots into download mode then press volume up now you should be able to connect the phone and it identifies it.
Hope it works out for you.
And have you tried on another pc too ?
thank-you

I just bought a new S3 GT-I9300 running ICS. And I'm a noob in this.
The problem is I can't root my phone. I followed the steps from here - AndroidNZ and then I stuck on step 8 and above. I also already tried the Chainfire method but still stuck when I want to put my phone in Download Mode.
Whenever I press the 3 button (VolumeDown + Home + Power), I ended up in the android system recovery <3e> screen (with the little green android guy and exclamation mark on it). Then, when I connect the usb cable, it said 'usb not recognized'. And, nothing was detected on Odin.
I don't know what to do anymore. Please help.
p/s: And I already installed Kies in my comp with USB debugging enabled in my S3.

Make sure you have KIES NOT running as it does not run well with Odin, also look into the task manager and close all KIES processes!
Also make sure you installed the USB drivers (should have been installed with KIES but you never know), you can get them again in the stickes in General section.
Go into the Download mode as instructed, connect the phone via USB and Odin should find it. After that follow the instructions.
btw: there are also easy guides on YouTube that will show you each step.

Yeah. I already stop all Kies process in the Task Manager. Hmm.
My tablet totally unable to turn on.
Tried power + volume down + home, no response at all.
However, when plug into the PC, the download mode appear and flickering very fast and stated "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again."
When connect to kies, firmware upgrade and initialisation, halfway downloading and stated "failed to upgrade firmware due to unexpected error. Do you want to run firmware emergency recovery now?"
I cannot find the recovery code in tools and unable to proceed further.
Had tried ODIN, download 3 different firmware from my country and my model in Sammobile and failed too.
Had tired changing 4 USB cables, 3 PC and all same result.....
Thanks all!
