[Q] Sony Ericsson Live With Walkman[ROOTED], Bootloader help.. - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

I rooted my Sony LwW by the one click root method... :good: But now i wanna flash custom ROMs, and I just have the superuser installed with me.(No busybox nor the CWM)
Shall I unlock the bootloader? Won't there be any probs unlocking it as I am already rooted. And if I unlock it too, which method should I use out of the 3 methods provided here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1879750
I just rooted my phone, so please let me know how to partition my SD card also..

I feel that unlocking bootloader by official method is good enough and yeah nothing would happen if you unlock your bootloader... you'd just loose your warranty however you can re-lock it back and its 100% safe to unlock and relock bootloaders :good:
for the CWM what you can do is just download this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pvy.CWMinstaler&hl=en and install it (if you are willing to stay in locked bootloader or to have cwm in stock kernel)
if you are willing to unlock your bootloader then just flash a custom kernel and you'd automatically have CWM pre-installed with the kernel
just try searching in google for the latest busybox so that you'd face any conflicts in future
Partitioning SDcard is a bit risky i think.. it'll reduce the SDcard's life...
Regards
Aneel

Install Busybox! it is important for a rooted phone
Lock Bootloader is limited. because some Mods, Kernel, Custom ROMS, requires Unlock BL
best way of Unlocking BL is. (SE Bootloader Unlocking Tool by quangnhut123)
though I still requested for the unlock code here Official SE Code Request because the Unlocking Tool by quangnhut123 doesn't give my code automatically when I put my IMEI
Partitioning SD card. if you wanted to have a partition because you will use Link2Sd, don't. nothing happens there's still some (MB)
left in the internal storage even I created a link, move the Apps to SD card.
Hope I helped!

Mate dont partition your SD card i lost my 16GB SD card due to it :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying:
Just an advice after all your phone your decisions :good:

If you are unlocking your bootloader the official way like i did ,
U just need to enter your email address and they will provide with you the code in less than a minute.. :good: (fast huhh.)
And read the instruction carefully
in the instruction they will tell you to download a file(software) Named Android SDK (actually its android development kit) , which a huge file more than 400 mb+
Instead you can use this file only 11 mb https://www.dropbox.com/s/a3hph73m9vqz6x1/fastboot with Android USB.zip
instruction about the file :-
1. Download and extract the file to C DRIVE (important in c drive not in others).
2. open the fastboot folder in the file and select the operating system which you are using (If you are on win 8 open cmd 7)
switch off your phone and get into fastboot mode by pressing the volume up key while connecting your phone to the PC
You phone LED will glow up Blue
3. Then type fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce getvar version and if you get a response `0.3` or `0.5` you are going well.
4. Now type fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce oem unlock 0xKEY in which KEY (at last) is the unlock key which you will get from the sony.
5. Press enter you are done.
6. Now flash the custom kernel and you will get CWM recovery installed in your phone :good:
Hit thanks if i helped

Thanks To Everyone...
Thanks aneel,bmt25 and mustufa_kheroda for helping me out...
I still got a few queries...
--- How do I know if BusyBox is installed? I just see the installer in my menu.
--- I have the CWM installed via X-parts. And I tried to install the Mobile Bravia Engine 3. But there's no option to turn it On/Off. (I just installed the mod, I did'nt edit any system files)
--- If I flash a custom ROM, will I loose all my data, apps,SD card data? Or does it gets restored to that new custom ROM.
--- I heard unlocking the bootloader wipes all the system data, is it true? Shall I backup before doing so?
Thanks in Advance Fellas..

If you download the "Busybox installer" from the playstore and installed it. That should be fine. I got no logo too.
Generally, all customer Rom requires a full wipe.
What I remember after unlocking my LWW it wipes all the data

[TUT] Install Stock 4.0.2.A.0.62 rom [+Root and CWM]

Here is the tutorial for Installing stock 4.0.2.A.0.62 ROM plus root and CWM. I am not responsible or anyone mentioned below for bricking your phone in case, tested on my Xperia ray with unlocked bootloader using S1 tool.
Requirements
Unlocked Bootloader (preferred) although there is a work around for locked bootloader
4.0.2.A.0.62 FTF files
Flashtool
recoveryRay.img by and Rootxperia.zip b1n4ry (for rooting)
CWM
Installation:
How to Install stock 4.0.2.A.0.62 ROM:
Download this stock 4.0.2.A.0.62 ROM. Thank you Aire for providing the link.
After download you will have a zip file. Extract it.
Download flashtool here and extract it.
Create FTF file using flashtool from the 4.0.2.A.0.62 ROM zip you extracted earlier. Now if you don't know how to create FTF files, there's a good tutorial here.
If you successfully created FTF file, you should see a file with extension “.ftf” in the “firmwares” folder inside “FlashTool” folder
Run the executable “X10FlashTool.exe” located in the FlashTool folder
Now click “Flash” button and select flashboot. Now select the firmware from the popup menu. Make sure “Wipe user data” box is checked and then click “OK”.
The application will ask you to put your Ray in flashboot mode, to do this turn off the phone, hold the volume down button while while connecting the USB cable to your computer.
Follow the on screen instruction and your device will reboot. Notice that the reboot process will take longer at first.
How to install Root
Please note that this is only applied to devices with unlocked bootloader. Alternately, you can just install a custom kernel and root using zergrush method but if you want to try the .62 kernel from this stock rom then do this.
Download rootxperia.zip here and place it in your sd card
Enter device in fastboot mode. Turn off phone, hold volume up while you connect the USB cable to computer
Download the recoverRAY.img provided below, you will get a zip file, extract it.
Open folder inside Flashtool where fastboot.exe exists (/FlashTool/x10flasher_lib)
Place the recoveryRAy.img inside the folder
Open command line in this folder
Test if it recognize your device, to do this type fastboot devices, if there is a result here proceed.
Now here's the tricky part, to enter a temporary recovery type fastboot boot recoveryRAY.img
*Notice that we didn't use fastboot flash boot ****.img here because as bin4ry said this recovery is designed to work just as recovery, if you flash it to your device it will NOT boot system anymore! This is just a temporary recovery for you so be careful not to flash it.
Now wait and your phone will reboot, you will see the FREE XPERIA splash screen and your device will now enter temp CWM recovery
On your phone choose install custom zip, locate the rootxperia.zip you added earlier in your SD card and flash it.
Reboot, your device is now rooted.
*to root your device with locked bootloader, they say you can install previous stock kernel and root using zergrush method.
How to install CWM
Download this then extract
Make sure you enabled USB debugging, and also you need to set Screen timeout to 10 minutes so you don't miss the superuser promt
Run install-cwm1.cmd from the folder
Follow screen on screen instruction, reboot.

Aire said, his current kernel supports .62 but they are currently working for repack based on this new firmware.
I haven't tried installing any custom firmware at the moment, I want to test this stock firmware for changes and improvement especially the baseband and battery consumption.

UPDATE 2: SEUS update won't brick our phone if it uses the Testpoint method O what a happy day it is.. Let's see if i can flash aire kernel back.
is that a global version or what ? some people said, that version has some bugs..
can we root this version with the new DoomLord v4 Root ?
from the Arc forum, i found that they can root their device with .62 firmware just by using flashtool.. can we do that so ?
thx

The firmware is provided by Aire, however if you encounter ftf generic firmware, it will be nice if you post it here.
As to bugs, I'm using this firmware for a day now and I noticed improvement in battery and speed, no bugs so far. I haven't tried the doomlord v4 root, but rooting via recovery is easy.

If your bootloader is still locked you can not root your device using that method. The only work around is to install previous kernel and root using zergrush method.

Thank you "idareyoutoclickthis" and "hansip87" for your replies.
In fact I had rooted my Ray earlier 4.0.2.A.0.42ver using the zergrush method using DooMLoRD_v4_Root Which I lost when I upgraded to 4.0.2.A.0.62ver. Now DooMLoRD_v4_Root won't work with 4.0.2.A.0.62ver update.
Now what about the bootloader thing? Sorry for being so dumb. Can you please elaborate a bit? I've got only got to the point wherein i checked the status using the service menu (*#*#.....#*#). It only says Rooting Status: Bootloader unlocking allowed: Yes.
What do I have to do now? Please help.

Indeed .62 is the latest built which include alot of improvements specially on batter issue.
If you don't want custom rom and kernel and is contented with the stock ROM and kernel then you don't need to unlock your bootloader.
to root your device, you need to flash stock 4.0.2.A.0.42 kernel only, you can do this with locked bootloader and root using zergrush method.

Unlocking bootloaders help (xperia x10)

First of all, im newbie and i dont know much about this
I installed new wolfbreak v7 rom on xperia x10 but i cant get wifi working. I've read that i need doomlord's unlocked bootloaders so i downloaded .ftf file but i cant flash it, i get this in flashtool (newest version):
17/007/2012 13:07:13 - ERROR - ERR_SEVERITY="MAJOR";ERR_CLASS="SECURITY_CLASS";ERR_DYNAMIC="SIN header verification failed"
I was following this thread but i cant get it to flash.
And i know i need that CWM recovery to flash the wifi.zip file but how do i get that recovery.
If anyone can tell me how do i unlock bootloader on my phone (xperia x10). My phone is not sim-unlocked, only rooted.
Initially (from a shop) in the phone the bootloader is locked.
If you want to flash a kernel for unblocked bootloader, then at first it is needed to execute procedure of unlocking of bootloader.
how do i do that?

u can follow below step to use CWM recovery:
1.download CWM recovery zip file and put it into SD card
2.boot into your phone installed recovery
3.select "Install custom zip" and select the CWM recovery zip file to flash
then u can use CWM recovery.
Hi, I'm on wolf's Rom.
First of, did you make a clean install starting from 2.1?
Then after rooting your phone & putting xrecovery onto it, you have to unlock your bootloader with the same flashtool. ( plug in phone & press unlock bootloader in flash tool)
After that's done, enter xrecovery, wipe everything(factory reset etc.) & install Wolf's Rom for UB Important is, do not reboot, take out your battery & flash dooms kernal through flash tool!!
When that's done, you can install dooms WiFi fix through xrecovery!!
Hope I could help you out

For all of you having problems with unlocking bootloader. Simply follow this(I did this with Wolfbreak's v7 ROM on):
1. Download the latest Flashtool v0.6.7.0(you can get it here)
2. Run it, then plug the device.
3. (In flashtool) Go to Plugins> Unlock bootloader.
4. Follow the instructions in flashtool(always look at the log)
5. Done, your bootloader is unlocked.
Hope this helps
Download link is not reuploaded
EDIT: Oh and yeah, don't forget to install the flashtool drivers, it can be found on the install directory "Flashtool\drivers". If a message appears while installing just click "Install this driver anyway" it will appear many times, just keep on clicking it til installation is done. Good Luck everyone!

Do you think this method will also work on the ARC S (ST18i)?

Your tutorial is a bit familiar LOL
As a newbe: some extra questions
You explain clear & idiot-proof, until I came along...
So as a newbe I have a few extra questions.
1. I have a new Xperia Ray 4.0.2.A.0.62 / 2.3.4 / ST18i out of the box. You mention OTA - update is recommended, as I already have 4.0.2.A.0.62; is that ok?
2. You mention You must unlock your bootloader, do you mean go to the offical Sony-Ericsson site and unlock bootloader the "official way"? (I have done this)
3. Which Flashtool, do you mean in point 4? And where can I find it/ download this flashtool?
4. After Unlocking the bootloader & Rooting my xperia ray, I believe I can remove bloatware like (wisepilot-trial, tetris-demo, facebook, topapps, etc.). But: what do I do to remove an app? Do I simply remove \system\apps\chinesetextinput.apk or do I have to uninstall it somehow like a computerprogram?
5. After rooting the system directory continues accessible? Is there a way to protect it again, after the removal of the bloatware? (my goal is just to remove the bloatware)
I hope my questions are not to dumb? With my first smartphone just for a couple of weeks I am a real newbe.

Rooted
@Vagrik:
Tried it, done it, and got rid of facebook!. With "bloatware" I meant all the unwanted (cr)apps. Offcourse: chinese is gone too. Thanx.
@others:
I used the root, I had to try & see, a little bit of knowledge about ancient msdos helpt me.
First I was confused about placing the zip on the sdcard & the fastboot on my computer, but step by step it just worked out fine.
So I did use the step by step tutorial, including Fastboot, CWM, after that superuser & titanium backup. With titanium backup you can backup all apps; and uninstall the (cr)apps one by one. (I am glad I made a backup first...).
In the end: rooting was easier than the login at this forum... !!! I must have tried a hundred times to finally place this message!
Got one question left: does anyone know the apps connected to "latitude","places", "navigation"; it seems all google; but which apps exactly ?
When u install maps; places, latitude and navigation get installed along with maps
Hello, the tutorial is great but I have may questions.
Download rootxperia.zip here and place it in your sd card
there's two folders in the rootxperia.zip do I unzip the contents of rootxperia.zip in to my sd card or just place the rooxperia.zip in to sd card?
Open folder inside Flashtool where fastboot.exe exists (/FlashTool/x10flasher_lib)
You mean create folder in flashtool folder? could you explain in detail this part?

how to install a stock rom....!! (new user)

I have a Xperia U --- OS :Android :- ICS 4.0.4 (stock)
(unroot & locked bootloader) build number :- 6.1.1.b.1.54 (stock)
kernel :- 3.0.8+.... (stock)
my phone not root or unlock the bootloader ,but i want to install a jellybean stock rom by DevSwift1 .I download the flashtool and install it and the drivers,i download the rom,how do i do next steps,i found that i can`t root my phone via flash tool with this firmware(6.1.1.b.1.54 ) it said i have to flash a 6.1.1.b.1.10 kermel to root, and rom install instruction said flash another kernel to install the rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2326515) .
1) how do i install the CWM recovery,i saw that Xperia u not support the rom mannager app. ?
2) is this [Kernel][Dec 04]Experimental v11a[JB 4.1.2] kernel pre install the cwm recovery ?
3)can i back up my current rom nad stock recovery how ?
4)your thoughts about devswift 1 rom ,i mean is it bug free and stable rom ?
5)tell me how to flash the rom ?
first answer my quetion (please put the numbers) secondly I need step by step, stock rom install guide from root to flash the rom....and don`t tell me just flash, pleas explain it futher,i mean bit more, this is my first time in xda and flashing a rom.(i got the boot unlock key)
guide it should be like this(IT easy to understand)
Eg:-
1)step, Root
> ***********
> ************
2)step, unlock boot loader
> ************
first of all choose a kernel and download it
second unlock your bootloader
after that install zip from sd card
finally choose devswift1 rom if you have problems with those pm me
you will get used to it and install every rom you like
i hope so
Prerequisite: go and unlock your boot loader. By unlocking your boot loader it saves you a lot of time in the future when you're flashing Roms since it will allow you to flash a custom kernel.
1) don't use ROM manager. CWM recovery is built into all custom kernels.
2) look at 1).
3) recovery is built into the kernel. backup can be done through CWM, it is pretty obvious once you are in there (volume for navigation, power for select)
4) I am ex-sony user but I've never touched this ROM but honestly everybody's opinion of a ROM will be different so try out different ones and to you see which is the most bug free and stable. To me I do not care about stuff like WiFi or HDMI because I never use it, but to some people it might be a major problem. So its a bit subjective.
5) instructions are included in the OP. Follow it VERY strictly (remember to flash the kernel, and remember to wipe before installing)

The link to the ROM is broken, fix it.
If it's a stock rom you do not need to unlock bootloader just flash stock kernel as said root and install recovery.
So you want to install devswift jb?
Step 1
Unlock your boot loader at http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com
Follow the instructions there and unlock it.
Step 2
Download a kernel that includes cwm recovery.
Step 3
Download devswift jb
Step 4
Boot into recovery
Step 5
Follow thread instructions and flash!

OK so you first of all, unlock your bootloader.
Then, you visit the devswift's jb thread, download the ROM and the kernel he asked you to flash.
Next, you flash the kernel via fastboot. Now, you boot into recovery and flash the ROM which is now supposed to be in your SD card.
Now you wipe data, cache and dalvik. Then, you flash the ROM. Next you reboot and let it settle.
Actually after unlocking the bootloader you can just follow devswift's instructions and nothing will go wrong.

hey man, you can unlock your bootloader in a simple step, you don't need to install tha sdk to your laptop or pc
you said that you already have a flashtool, and downloaded and installed drivers
note that if you unlock your bootloader the files will be gone (as in all file on phone and internal)
follow this step:
1. go to this site and get the code http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/ (click "start unlocking the boot loader", then click "continue", click "yes i'm sure", check the boxes and click "i accept", enter your name, imei (note: remove the last digit coz its only need 14 digits), enter your email, and later on they will send you for the unlock key, save it safely)
2. open flashtool, connect your device in usb debugging mode, check it on the settings
3. click the BLU at the top at the right of the flashicon
4. later it will ask you to disconnect your device, and power off it
5 reconnect your devicein the usb cable in FLASHMODE. (hold the volume down button while connecting to usb cable)
5. Againconnectt your phone in FASTBOOT mode. (hold volume up while connecting to usb cable)
6. It will prompt a window with your IMEI number, insert your unlock key and click "unlock".
wait to finish and reboot it's done, hope i help you :good:

Search on google there is a Sony official site to let you input your IMEI and get the unlock key. You'll need to use fastboot(search on google if you don't know what is it) to unlock via command prompt in Windows, a factory reset will perform after unlocked.
Kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z5-compact/orig-development/kernel-zombie-t3224735
Recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z5-compact/orig-development/twrp-z5-compact-t3235161 (you only need the recovery.img from it)
And then, you just need to "fastboot flash boot boot.img" and "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" in command prompt to flash custom kernel and custom recovery.

At last, "fastboot boot recovery.img" to flash the flashablesu.zip in recovery and install any of busybox utility via Playstore. Upgrade to camera 2.0 via "What's new" if you will install xposed bcoz stock cam 1.0 will FC.
Pretty much that's all of it.

Bear in mind that if you unlock bootloader, your camera will worsen, you will lose image enhancements like x reality and your warranty will be void. Etc. Etc. So you might want to hold off on root. Just letting you know, that is

Did you ever take the plunge with encryption? TWRP supposedly supports encryption, but want to make sure I have a way to a working phone if encryption doesn't work.
Don't remember if I can undo encryption via twrp, or at that point is it just prudent to flashtool it back to a clean image if not? My understanding is really just need to get a kernel on there that will boot, and provide the rest of the system with or without encryption.
Ready to pull the trigger on this to root and try with my encryption, but think I'll pull down a clean version of .200 firmware for the z5c first...
Yesterday there is a way to get Z5/Z5C/Z5P Rec & Root

Stock kernel will get a bootloop if you rooted. The current build of Z5c kernel got dm-verity, when it detect your /system has changed like flashed flashablesu.zip to attempt to root probably it will not boot. You need a custom insecure kernel to root.

because it's only meant to be flashed in/by fastboot mode through command prompt or cmd.flashing it using recovery won't install those img's..not unless those were re/packed that could also be flashed through recovery..i've tried it but gave me error. & it's better that way installing it through command prompt/fastboot mode.
