[Q] ROMs do not work on Mobile Network - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have tried 3 ROMs.
One did not have a phone app and anyway did not register on the mobile network. The other two showed full bars on the network but said 'failed to register' even though 'registered on network' was reported when I connected to a network following a scan.
So I am assuming that there is no modem?? - though why a ROM should be produced without one I can't imagine.
I looked around for a modem to download. I can't find one. Further, virtually everywhere I look Odin is used to do installations. As I use Linux there is very little information to help me, I might be on the wrong track anyway.
So, my phone is non-operational atm :crying: Can anyone help please?

Check if your imei is still there ! Sometimes after flashing ROM s the imei is gone ! Poof ! No connection
it hurts when I help someone and they say thanks Instead of pressing the button

You've put your finger right on it. No, it does not match the sticker it is totally different.
I'll read the blurb, as instructed, and see if I can find a solution.

A bit of a learning curve to put back the stock ROM. The reason why I wanted a new ROM is because of all the trouble I've had since the last Samsung firmware update. Multivarious problems! Of course I should have done a back up but I have flashed ROMs on other phones before and been perfectly OK - oh well, lesson definitely learned!!
Anyway, should the worst come to the worst, which it probably will, and I need to get it fixed, do I send it back to Samsung or is there somewhere local that you know [you are located about 7 miles from me ]

It depends on the issue really. If the imei and serial are correct, no need to do anything.
Sending to samsung can be a long process so sometimes if your imei has gone, a mobile phone repair shop can fix for say £20. It shouldn't affect warranty.
Where are you?

YP-G1 Black Screen Brick (((((HELP!!!!)))))

I was trying to return to stock using Heimdall. It failed for some reason. Whenever I have tried to use it it always says it failed but this time it went further then usual but the end result was a fail. I think it just repartitioned but I'm not sure. Anyways the only thing it would do is boot into cwm and download mode. So I restored a backup a previously made. Same thing it only booted into download mode and cwm. So I went and tried to flash through odin. Everything worked fine and still the same thing. So then I followed the unbrick thread on XDA and flashed the file and everything finished and said successful but my device would not boot up at all. Doing a little more research it seems that the unbrick method was for 5.0 devices only which I don't know why it isn't placed in plain sight for everyone to see but anyways now I have a dead device. Has anyone had any success with fixing this problem?

Ok so:
1. This isn't even talking about development so why are you putting it into dev section?
2. Have you tried a jig to get you back into download mode?

Wrong attitude, man. XDA is a free service and you are soliciting unpaid help. Follow the forum rules.
Most, if not all, of our Galaxy Player forum developers and contributors pay attention to all threads and you will get an answer from someone who knows.
If not, look in the development forum and find a developer and send a PM.
Don't clutter the wrong forum with your pleas for help, acting like you're the only one with that problem.

And you expect really having an answer here? You are serious right? Please tell me 1 recent thread on general that haven't been replied and then we can see if we never replies. Geez people are never grateful from what I see...
You guys are getting upset for the wrong reason. I have no attitudes and I'm just looking for help. I tried the other forum and didn't get any reply so I moved it to this forum and I am seeing some activity. I didn't know it was a crime. I was asked a question and an answer was given. Don't mistake a straight forward answer for an attitude. Thanks for your input. Now is there a solution for my problem? The SGP is my little nephews and I experimented with it and messed it up. All I want is a point in the right direction.
It might be a kernal issue. Try flashing a kernal for the 4 and see if that works.

Alright, let's all take a deep breath and chill. We empathize with you, dude, we really do.
We need to address another XDA rule that you overlooked. (Understandably. No biggie. Not calling you out, just saying.)
When you post on XDA, you need to be as thorough about your problem as possible, so we don't clutter the thread with Q&A.
1. Symptoms of the problem: What works and doesn't?
2. Any reactions to button presses? Lights? Screen? Sound?
3. Any evidence that it's booting?
4. Does your computer register that it's being plugged in?
That'll help you get started. List anything else that might be noteworthy. Someone will help you.
Also, nightfire brings up a good point. Try flashing the stock kernel for your device via ODIN.
EDIT:
What procedure did you go through when you were following the (wrong) un-brick instructions? Because, if your device is totally unresponsive, you've probably got yourself a Galaxy Paper Weight. If it's not something as dire as that, there may still be hope.
Did you attempt to flash a 5.0 bootloader on a 4.0? A wrong kernel flash wouldn't screw up your device as badly as that. You may need to re-partition some things (/efs and PIT, perhaps) and re-flash stock ROM.
But, please, work with us here and be specific about exactly what you did that led up to the current.
Screen doesn't turn on at all and odin doesn't recognize it.
I used this method....."[10/13]Brick Station! Here to solve your brickable needs! BOOTLOADERS AVAILABLE!!!". I'm not even sure anymore why I felt I needed to use that method but before I followed those steps my SGP would only go into download mode and CWM. I flashed roms and kernels using odin and it said pass...reset. I even restored an old backup but no matter what I did it always rebooted back into CWM. I followed the brick station steps but not the un-resurrectable part because my problem wasn't that extreme but after following through with those steps I now have a device that requires the un-resurrectable method but now I know that it's only for the 5.0. When I connect my device to my laptop it makes a sound like there is some life but nothing pops up...turns on or flashes. I even used a usb jig to try and get it to download mode but nothing at all.
Thank you guys for the help.

Have you tried this ?http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1531850. So what I gather is you can get to the download mode. If you can then you can fix it. The link I posted here is a good place to get everything you need. Use Hemidall method this was the only way to fix it. I had no luck with Odin. If your PC is not seeing your player go into device manager and remove everything under universal USB. after that click on the action menu and scan for new hardware. It will reinstall the usb stuff. reboot PC. Then get the samsung USB drivers install them. Next if you correctly installed hemidall it should work and see your deivice. Read the info ib this link carefully pick the right player. Down load the PIT file for your player. Then in hemidall install the partitions in the correct order as in the instruction. Let me know if this helps or if I can help you more

No progress with getting my SGP working. I don't think I'm explaining my problem correctly because people are telling me to follow the steps that got me to this point lol but all the help is appreciated.
If you press and hold POWER + VOLUME DOWN for about 10 ~ 15 seconds, do you see a screen with a yellow construction-like sign appear? If so, you are in download mode, and that is a good thing. Try it and let me know.
Nope nothing turns on at all. I dont think its a complete brick yet because i get a beep sound from the computer when i connect it but no signs of life on the device.

Stuck at boot animation + more info inside

Hello, so I ran out of battery on my way home, when I got home I plugged the phone and went to sleep. Today when I woke up, I turned on the device, but it got stuck @ galaxy s3 boot animation, the animation you get before your ROM's boot animation kicks in, so I went to recovery and tried to recover one of my recoveries. it didn't help. I did a factory reset, it still was the same, stuck on galaxys3 boot animation. So I decided to flash stock samsung rom using ODIN. But now I'm stuck at the samsungs stock ROM boot animation, I tried factory reset couple of times but it didn't help.
Any idea what might be the issue, I have flashed this rom
Edit: Also the line "E: failed to mount /efs" is something to worry about when you boot into recovery?
So flashing via Odin works w/o errors?

Yeah, when i flashed using odin, I didn't encounter any error, more one thing to mention, when I boot to recover I get
E: failed to mount /efs
Is that something to have concern about?
oh yes. do you have an efs backup? that's the first thing you should do before flashing anything. if yes, restore it. if not, send it to service

you are correct, in the EU you still can get lucky due to some regulations and you have to show that the root did not cause the problem, outside the EU I am not sure. The restriction of the internals of every device is not for nothing in place don't you think so? Otherwise manufacturers would get hundreds of complains because someone messed up something...

If you do not have an EFS backup I guess it will be difficult to restore. Only solution then will be to send it in for service if I am not wrong.

We could if we had something that would allow these files to be converted to a format that is readable by a hex editor, and then convert them back. I have been trying to find something like this for a while but I can't find anything. If anyone knows and would be willing to share, I am sure a great many of us would appreciate it!
Tks @hoangnova :good:
This is my last ditch effort. Small back story: I somehow wiped EVERYTHING on my G2. EFS partition, ESN, data, SIM info., everything with dialer codes. All of my network information reads "unknown". I tried many methods from here on the forums to get this data back and it turns out I have lost my EFS partition- DNA for the network? I sent it to LG to get it fixed, having done a hard reset and leaving no trace of root. They sent it back without even asking and did no repairs. The note said "board bent". WTF?? How does the user bend the main board, especially when I never opened it? They voided my warranty and ripped off my IMEI/MEID sticker from the back of the phone.
Anyways, I am here with a brick. No network still. Here is what I have done:
1) .tot method to ZVC. Several more times... once to ZV7 where I lost touch capability. Luckily saved my arse with a micro->usb cable and a mouse.
2) attempted to root with ioroot25. Failed because the phone WILL NOT find recovery mode. adb, voldown+pwr then again from power off, and apps are unable to force the phone into recovery mode. I assume it is possible that my recovery mode is deleted?
3) Would have tried all of these "rewrite your efs/imei/etc" things but I can't do any without root. Can't root without recovery, can I?
4) Spent the last two weeks scouring the internet for a fix and going back to my Epic 4G temporarily.
Please help me, has anyone seen this before? Can anyone help me fix it? I am to the point where I would pay to have it fixed. Any experts out there? XDA has yet to let me down... I just need to know if I can fix it or if it is a brick so I can go searching for an old Sprint GS3.
Thanks all,
baublitz

[Q] Accidentally erased bootloader. Any hope of recovery?

Hello,
I have a Lenovo A706. I mistakenly formatted the boot partition and now I cant even go to droidboot. Is there any hope that my phone can be recovered. Yes sir,
Here's what I did:
I flashed my phone with CWM, then rooted my phone using the methods described in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2391801
Then I went into CWM using vol up+vol down+power and instead of erasing /cache I erased /sys_boot or something and then my phone doesn't even start into DroidBoot or CWM. Even if you tell me that the phone can be repaired by service centre I would be happy. Ask me if you want any more information!

Erasing the bootloader is like breaking your device permanently unless you reflash the bootloader/ whole rom which comes with the bootloader or else it's gone.

Oh! That's quite good. From my former experience with samsung phones, I have learned how to act stupid. But, I will be going on Friday, it's quite far from my house. Would it require the main board to be changed? Or, do they have something which can flash without the bootloader being there?

They may have to change the internal memory card. They should be replacing it with a card that has the bootloader on it.

I hope they will do it for free. However device is not being detected by adb or else problem could be solved. And when connecting charger the soft keys flash!

They should do it for free... they can't see if your phone is rooted or not. (Unless you're a complete nerd about phones)

Thanks for the comforting news. Friday is not far anyway. Even if replacing the internal memory(worst case scenario-the main board) is not a choice, they might replace the phone.

Need Help

Hello.
I have a samsung galaxy s2 and its been working fine for more than a year. Few days ago, i did a factory reset and now when I power on my phone it stays on the Samsung logo. If i go in recovery, it says CWM-based Recovery v6.0.1.2-Siyah. and i have a lot of options. I did wipe data/factory reset and after that completes it powers on and goes in safe mode, i can do stuff for around 30 seconds and then it restarts and stuck on samsung logo again.
I tried flashing stock firmware but Odin does not detect my phone. i have tried on two different computers, they both have the drivers everything, tried on different ports, tried with different cables.
Please Help.
what rom you're on?

1) 'Please use a descriptive thread title'
2) Hopper8's 'Odin troubleshooting' thread stickied in General, find it, try as many of the things in that thread as many times as you need to in order to get a successful flash. If you try the stuff in the thread two or three times then come back to this thread & say 'I tried blah blah a few times & still the same', guess what ? Your phone will stay busted. Why ? Because perseverance always fixes these issues unless the phone isn't recoverable. You need to try everything in that thread over and over and over if necessary. There's nothing that isn't in that thread which can be suggested in these situations. Why ? That thread is the 'Bible'.
So...Go...You now have the tools to fix your phone.
i have already seen that thread and tried what it advised but to no avail.

you said it can boot for ~30 seconds
anyway,try booting to recovery:
1.do a factory reset again
2.wipe cache
3.advanced/wipe dalvik cache
4.advanced/fix permissions

Tried but did not work.
Same thing happens, goes into the system, and then restarts after 20-30 seconds and then stuck on samsung logo.
Well,if you can boot, quickly go to phone's settings, scroll down and tap "about phone".Write down android, firmware and kernel versions and post here.
That stuff is irrelevant. OP, you're clearly not doing some things here or not telling us exactly what you did to get the phone in that state (like most people who get into this situation). Service centre.
i said in my FIRST post that after i did a factory reset, when i restarted it got stuck on the samsung logo.
Anyone ?
Please.
Well,if your current rom is messed up and can't use ODIN,you may try flashing a stock based jb rom through recovery.Choose the one you like, follow the instructions and that's it.
Just a suggestion:angel:
Could you please link me to which one i should download. i do not want to mess my phone up even more.
im from uk.

Well,I cannot say which rom you SHOULD try as it's against the rules and is purely your choice.Although I used this one some time ago and really liked it

Just follow the instructions and you're done.
Right...So on one hand you say

Which is absolutely correct.

What's the point in telling people what the rules are when you go and break them in the next sentence ? Why not just tell people to go read some rom threads & try some roms ? Do you realise how much more likely it is that a n00b will break their phone at some point in the fairly near future when you spoonfeed them everything, which is exactly what you've been doing for the past few weeks, as opposed to pointing them in the right direction & telling them to learn for themselves ?

I don't get you mate. The man asked me to suggest a rom so I did.Honestly,it was the only stock jb based rom I ever tried as AOSP is my home.As much as I hate stock,I know that rom has little to no problems,so that OP won't come back here anytime soon.Which is good.Never wanted to break any rules, but because his phone was in unusable state,I pointed him to (IMHO) the right direction. Is this a bad HELP?
I know I did some things here and there that made some noobs lifes easier. So this means I should always reply by saying:
Hey,there's search button for that!DIY!Troubleshooting thread is not for these kind of questions.Get outta here!!
That's not how I understand HELP.
Anyway, thanks for your opinion, really respect that.
