[Q] Accidentally erased bootloader. Any hope of recovery? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I have a Lenovo A706. I mistakenly formatted the boot partition and now I cant even go to droidboot. Is there any hope that my phone can be recovered. I will be taking it to the service centre on Friday, but... can someone assure me that it will be repaired. I just brought it it's only seven days into the purchase and I don't even feel that it can be repaired. So, can someone say if it can be repaired by the service centre, or can I attempt a repair?

It would help if you detailed ALL the steps you took to arrive at this stage. And I mean ALL details.
You think when it's this important to you that you'd at least give some details, tools used, rooted, etc

Yes sir,
Here's what I did:
I flashed my phone with CWM, then rooted my phone using the methods described in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2391801
Then I went into CWM using vol up+vol down+power and instead of erasing /cache I erased /sys_boot or something and then my phone doesn't even start into DroidBoot or CWM. Even if you tell me that the phone can be repaired by service centre I would be happy. Ask me if you want any more information!

I don't have this phone but you should be able to repair this ok.
I'd start by trying to reflash CWM. Let us know how you get on with that first
Good luck!

But I can't get into CWM or the recovery screen. So I am not able to flash anything and the only way to flash I think is through sd card and droidboot. So basically what I fear is I am not able to flash how will the sevice centre do it?

I mean that if I cannot get into recovery how will the service centre people do it?

Anyone having a Lenovo had this problem and was it resolved?

Erasing the bootloader is like breaking your device permanently unless you reflash the bootloader/ whole rom which comes with the bootloader or else it's gone.

The service centre people will be able to do it? Because I am not able to enter into flash mode!

Someone may be able to help me or at least reassure me? :crying:

Oh! Definitely I will! So as I understand basically if there's any hope it's only the service centre. But, could you make up a tale that I can give to the service centre? Basically since everything has been erased, they won't be able to know I rooted.

Oh! That's quite good. From my former experience with samsung phones, I have learned how to act stupid. But, I will be going on Friday, it's quite far from my house. Would it require the main board to be changed? Or, do they have something which can flash without the bootloader being there?

They may have to change the internal memory card. They should be replacing it with a card that has the bootloader on it.

Thanks for the comforting news. Friday is not far anyway. Even if replacing the internal memory(worst case scenario-the main board) is not a choice, they might replace the phone.

Have you read/tried this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286432
If you saved your backup on your computer, move that onto your phone and just flash it in CWM recovery.
Since your friend says he didn't do anything with the phone, it means you can't proceed by troubleshooting, since you don't have enough information to start with. So I would suggest that you enter download mode and flash back to stock, or stock plus root, and start over. You should do a wipe data/factory reset after you flash back to stock. You will have to reconfigure your phone, but most likely that is the most inconvenience you will experience.
Thanks a lot guys!!!! Up and running again! Wow I thought for sure I was going to have a stroke!! I knew someone would come thru for me!! You all are great!! Lesson learned. Never ever let someone else use your phone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes. I just copied the ROM file over to my sd card on my pc and then put the card back in my phone. Downloaded the file off the card to my phone as I could still get into CWM. I was pretty worried about what I was going to do. This worked!!

If you keep spelling it with a "u", nobody's going to help you
Honestly though, the ports of CWM to the Mediapad are not producing prior backups anyway. I don't see how it'd be more useful than the official ROM.

Mine was in the same state. Sent it in for repair. Seems like they couldn't fix it with jtag at the german Huawei service partner, as they stated the mainboard has been replaced.
The device arrived today and is waiting for me at home. I will check the serial number to see if the board really got replaced. If yes, I guess there will be little chance of a jtag repair, as I cant imagine that it is cheaper to replace the whole board than just flash it...
Anyway, good look with your brick.
€: Yup, they replaced the board. SN and IMEI are different.

[Q] Not Turning on After Software Update

So I just got the phone today and decided to upgrade to ics, that was a big mistake. The phone won't turn on . When I plug it into the computer it has the green charging led but when I plug it into the charger nothing just a dark green led that will blink every 10 seconds or so. don't care if I have to downgrade I just want it to work. Also when it's not plugged in it does the same dark green blink and when I try turning it on nothing no vibration or anything.
Use flashtool to unbrick your device.

Weird, maybe you flashed it wrong. Anyways, go back to GB and then flash again to ICS if you'd like to, you shouldn't get any troubles downgrading.

As for my knowledge this is not possible! but next time use the "MyPhoneExplorer" it keeps contacts in PC so whenever u flash firmware, install its client on phone and run this software on PC and then it will put all the contacts that u had on ur phone before flash. last night i had done rooting on my phone by following steps hope it will also help u for flashing a firmware via flashtool.

One won't lose the warranty if he/she fails in an official upgrade, send it to the dealer for repair before trying oneself with Flashtool, which may alter the build.prop, and else. Right?
By the way, my Xperia Mini Pro fails to change the input method by long pressing the text input area with.431 ics ROM, any hints? Thanks.

If you have never rooted and bootloader is locked (and I think it is), please send it to service or give it to the shop where you've bought it. This is better, and because it was an official update, you should be able to claim your warranty.
If you try to do it yourself with flashtool, you will modify your phone and if they find out, your warranty is lost. So please don't flash it, give it to service

Stuck at boot animation + more info inside

Hello, so I ran out of battery on my way home, when I got home I plugged the phone and went to sleep. Today when I woke up, I turned on the device, but it got stuck @ galaxy s3 boot animation, the animation you get before your ROM's boot animation kicks in, so I went to recovery and tried to recover one of my recoveries. it didn't help. I did a factory reset, it still was the same, stuck on galaxys3 boot animation. So I decided to flash stock samsung rom using ODIN. But now I'm stuck at the samsungs stock ROM boot animation, I tried factory reset couple of times but it didn't help.
Any idea what might be the issue, I have flashed this rom
Edit: Also the line "E: failed to mount /efs" is something to worry about when you boot into recovery?
So flashing via Odin works w/o errors?

you are correct, in the EU you still can get lucky due to some regulations and you have to show that the root did not cause the problem, outside the EU I am not sure. The restriction of the internals of every device is not for nothing in place don't you think so? Otherwise manufacturers would get hundreds of complains because someone messed up something...

[Q] ROMs do not work on Mobile Network

I have tried 3 ROMs.
One did not have a phone app and anyway did not register on the mobile network. The other two showed full bars on the network but said 'failed to register' even though 'registered on network' was reported when I connected to a network following a scan.
So I am assuming that there is no modem?? - though why a ROM should be produced without one I can't imagine.
I looked around for a modem to download. I can't find one. Further, virtually everywhere I look Odin is used to do installations. As I use Linux there is very little information to help me, I might be on the wrong track anyway.
So, my phone is non-operational atm :crying: Can anyone help please?

I'll read the blurb, as instructed, and see if I can find a solution.

A bit of a learning curve to put back the stock ROM. The reason why I wanted a new ROM is because of all the trouble I've had since the last Samsung firmware update. Multivarious problems! Of course I should have done a back up but I have flashed ROMs on other phones before and been perfectly OK - oh well, lesson definitely learned!!
Anyway, should the worst come to the worst, which it probably will, and I need to get it fixed, do I send it back to Samsung or is there somewhere local that you know [you are located about 7 miles from me ]
It depends on the issue really. If the imei and serial are correct, no need to do anything.
Sending to samsung can be a long process so sometimes if your imei has gone, a mobile phone repair shop can fix for say £20. It shouldn't affect warranty.
Where are you?
