What did you do the last time it went wrong?
I used this website called galaxys2root.com or something like that. I came here and some people helped me fix it

So you used a website for the s2 on a s4? Or do you actually have an s2 and mistakenly wrote s4? OR do you have an s4 and are just lost? lol
No, the time I messed up I had an S2, that was a while back. Now I have an S4 and I want to root it to install Cyanogenmod but I don't want to mess up again like I did back then with my S2

I've never rooted an S4 before, however, I do have this thread that you should look over and see if this fits for you: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317105
Since you said the device is an AT&T S4 that would make it the i9500.
Make sure you look everything over before doing anything with it also, I've only had one run in rooting a samsung device so i can't really provide much assistance other then what i've provided so far. Hope this helps.
Thanks a lot, I'll check it out

I'm the proud owner of a Galaxy Note i717 but the limitations of gingerbread are driving me crazy....so the first thing I want to do is root and flash a different ROM problem is I'm without a computer ugh.
I came across a YouTube video showing how to root the other model without using a computer so I was wondering if anyone knew of a solution for the i717 model.
So is it possible to root the i717 galaxy note without a computer?
Help me out here guys any feedback is much appreciated....

I highly discourage trying anything other than what is posted in these threads...since it has been proven to best and most effective why of rooting and flashing...
in other words...You will need a computer and for a safety feature in case you soft brick or hard... you will have a need for a pc...computer.
do you have CWM on your device? like ranger stated below...no need to root to flash...
just my suggestions
You don't need root to flash an ics Rom.

yes sir you are correct...I did notice the op did not mention if CWM is on his device already...he will need that to flash...so then to put cwm he would need.....
No I don't have CWM on my device its literally a few hours old with everything stock lol so I'm really trying to find the best way to go about getting CMW and a custom ROM installed

Honestly I would not attempt to flash without a pc handy...due to the saying
"ya never know"
Even though we have the same make/model devices....they are not the same... my GNote may not like a ROM as to yours might...like I trying explaining ... the computer being your safety net if something goes wrong....I would wait or find a friend that you can use a computer, but it is your call, it is your investment.
btw unless someone knows a way to put CWM on the device without a computer....I believe you will need a computer...
Since CWM is a custom kernel, you could flash it from the phone using the Mobile Odin app.
Edit: oops never mind -- you need to be rooted to use Mobile Odin. Sorry for the bad information.
I rooted one phone using the terminal emulator after downloading such and busy box to the SD card. But its harder than climbing Everest without oxygen typing those commands.

So I Bought a Galaxy note (i717) the charger port is messed up on the device. It will charge, but it wont allow any PC connectivity. I have searched google and xda for information how how to root this phone with out a PC (aka using an .apk like framaroot) and I can not find a viable solution. I have tried Z4Root and Framaroot and neither of them work. Do you know of any other ways to root my device with out a pc? If i dont need a Root to Flash Could you point me in the right direction to find that information I haven't put CWM on the device yet because I Cant Root so I cant MobileOdin ect.. you see the picture lol. Is it possible to use an Update.zip file? or use a formatted SDcard to flash it like I did to Flash NookColor1?

Well let me start by saying I have rooted phones before, so I know a decent amount of the processes. But it's been a while.
My question is, is there currently a one click root method for an sgs2 on sprint running ics 4.0.4? A friend of mine just got one and he wants me to root it for him like I did his evo a while back.

I believe that method was patched in 2.3.6, and this guy is on 4.0.4. (and this is still in the wrong forum for him)
Ok, well I have a note 2 with verizon and had 4.1.1 and had it rooted. When then new ota update came, did it and phone went to crappers (a while back of course) So For the past month I been rooting my phone with 4.1.1 to make it "work" and phone started acting weird. Called verizon and received new phone yesterday with 4.1.2.
Now, I have been looking for ways to root it and found several, but when I try them, phone does not root.
Any help would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks,

Yes & yes.. Again, I've done this ever since I had my S3 and never had issues rooting. But this time around with 4.1.2 it's been hard. It sounds stupid and I feel stupid because it should be that damn hard..
Was able to put Team Win Recovery Project v2.5.0.0.. Now what??

Use casual. It will do everything for you. Disable Windows defender first or it will cause problems. It sees one of the apk files as malicious.

Best place to start is finding out what build you're on as options are limited to some degree depending upon that. I'm assuming you're going to be on one of the newer ones. Lemme know and we'll go from there bud.

Unfortunately, I am on the newest build that came out. I had no idea that the bootloaders were locked until after I updated. I actually came from the S3 so I pretty much know the tools that I need and things like that but I have never ever heard of Loki before, all I know is its some type of makeshift work around for the bootloader.

You will not be able to install a custom recovery on your device, as any build past MDK (the original build) has pretty much been locked down. Only MDK people have the ability to use Loki.
Your only alternative is Safestrap, basically you can only flash ROMs that use the stock kernel...which means no AOSP. There's a thread for it here somewhere.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
Damn that's dissapointing to say the least. I really loved AOSP on my S3 and I really hear that its pretty great on on the S4. Oh well, I will just enjoy 4.3 until 4.4 comes later this month, or year due to Verizon's AMAZING speed when it comes to updates. -_-

As of right now, all we can do is root, use titanium back up to freeze or delete boat and use exposed to customize the stock rom. Some are looking into way to put safestrap or another way to a way to flash but nothing right now.

What features are you looking for that you are lacking from your Mega? If you want to flash just to flash then get you a little knock around phone on the side. Xposed has fully taken my flashaholic need away from me. Hell even if i want different colors i can do it through that.
