[Q] How to replace the htc one volume button. - AT&T HTC One (M7)

well i just traded my galaxy s4 for the htc one due to the recent update making the gs4 bootloader locked.... so far i like the htc one alot build quality much much better, only problem is the volume button has notable wear, so i was just curious if i can just replace the button....

It's a sealed body,so I wouldn't tamper with it personally.did you get a refurbished phone? Otherwise I would bring it back.it can be done, but i would not recommend it.

Actually replaced it myself it was really easy , just get the button from ebay , and with a very thin prying tool just take out the previous button , then put the other one in....

Hi! I personally used a tiny screw driver that hardly, but did fit between the button and housing and just popped it out. The volume rocker itself is quite flexible, but if it's already broken (I assume) that doesn't really matter if you broke it more does it? You cannot really make any damage to your device or the back cover. Pop the button out from the back cover side and not the screen. Then you just put the new one in. Just be careful when put it in as I had to bend it a wee bit to be able to make its way. Unfortunately mine has a gap between the button and housing but I'm not bothered. Other users also commented the volume rocker can only be replaced perfectly to fit in if you disassembled the phone. Buttons are working and that's what matters...

HTC One M8 Volume Rocker Button Replacement
Hey guys,
I am new to message boards, so I hope I am posting my question correctly.
I dropped my HTC One M8 quite hard and the volume button flew out and was instantly lost. After reading the posts in this thread, one user mentioned that a replacement button was purchased off eBay; however, I've searched in vain and haven't found anything for the M8 (Lots for the M7 however).
Does anyone have any suggestions where I could look to find one? I think all I need to do is pop a new one in and I should be good to go.
Thanks!!

is the phone rooted and if so, is it a custom rom?
How much of it isn't working? And is it just unresponsive or is the display out as well?
I have a strip of my screen the doesn't work that's righty over where the top row of keys is.

So is it just a strip of the screen?
If you really really wanna be able to get it unlocked, Download the correct version of clockwork mod for our phone one that's not touch, has to use the volume rockers and fresh install the rom, Or as a matter of fact, Just boot into whatever recovery you have and clear data/factoryreset, that'll get rid of your lock pin
Hello from me too!
I have a strip on my touch screen that doesn't work. It's right where the Search button and Install on Play Store is and Clear on the Phone notifications, too.
It had the stock rom, I have replaced the screen with the digitizer when it fell down. It worked after that. I had to unscrew the phone one more time because my LCD was touching the screen and the phone had gone mad. After that, and a couple of days later, I noticed that the strip didn't work anymore. Today I finally flashed a new rom (King Cobra 3d) and nothing's changed so I figured it might be a hardware problem...
What's your opinion?
Thank you!

Its the hardware. and your carrier should change it at no cost. (Sprint)

I've replaced my digitizer twice myself. I got a cheaper one the first time, and figure that's what I get for trying to go on the cheap. (I was out of warranty). Sorry to say it but it could be that again.

I think I don't have a warranty because I've changed it myself. It's my fault...
I think I'll buy a new one... I unscrewed it a while ago so I could see if sth had been misplaced or if the digitizer had scratches or sth like that.
I saw that the ribbon's top had been ripped off right where it bends on top of the LCD... Don't know if that's the problem...
p.s. I live in Greece. My carrier is Cosmote. We don't have Sprint here...
Yep, if the ribbon cable is ripped, that would be your problem. Don't go too cheap on your replacement. Good luck!

The last one I got from Amazon is the one I'm using now (about a month old), and spent $20 US on it, which was NOT the cheapest of them. Not knowing the exchange rate right off hand, would venture to say the one you're speaking of is not a "cheap" one. So go for it. Just take your time replacing it and be careful with ALL the ribbon cables. Good luck!

EVO 3D ghost touch repair?

Hi. I have a RELOCKED HTC EVO 3D with ghost touching, so warranty is voided. I want to repair it myself (repair at the service costs almost as a new phone). Now the question is: do I have to change the LCD, too? I found touchscreen and I think that's OK to replace and repair the ghosting effect, but I need some opinions. Thank you!
Your warranty is not gone! Unlock again and s-off with juopnutbear (wire trick),it is fairly easy, then after getting s-off, run the ruu, and run the flag to turn s-on. It will say locked, and there will be no traces of rooting.
Sent from my Anthrax'd Evo 3D !
I think it's to late for this...Oh man, I didn't knew that Now there's nothing I can do, but just to repair it myself.
So, anyone know what I need to change? Only touchscreen is enough (without LCD display) ?

That is what I also want to know. It started registering ghost touches about 8 months ago until today when they become so frequent to the faze that i cant use it anymore. Replacement of the digitizer is imminent. I saw this on ebay http://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/viewitem?itemId=271089461688. What did the trick for you?
I'm sorry to hear that. I sold that phone a while ago, after sending it in service and got my warranty voided (was RELOCKED).
I had two phones, the one I sold and another one I still have. This second one manifested ghost touch recently, but now I knew how to make it LOCKED, so was no problem for the service to repair it. In one month I sent the phone to warrany twice. My screen was replaced first time, then the screen again + battery. Waiting for the 3rd time.
It's my first HTC phone and I'm so dissapointed...
Anyway, that digitizer won't work for you. Digitizer and display are glued together, so you'll need to find digitizer+display, which cost a lot more.

You don't need to change display, only touchscreen. Touchscreen is your problem. I changed one, my self.
I have not found any GSM service that want to change only digitizer. Even HTC authorized service told me that I have to buy digitizer + display + speaker (for the 1st phone with the voided warranty), saying that they are in one piece.
Anyway, thanks for the info

Change it at your home, not in Service, only touchscreen. It's working.
I don't need to change it now because the phone with the voided warranty is sold and the one I have now it's OK for service in terms of warranty They already changed the touchscreen+display twice and battery once. I think they lose money with this phone

Ok so after 24 hours of testing I got ghost touches only 2 times.anyway my phone used to have ghost touches every like 2 min...
Solution: search for "pimp my rom" in the market.(it requires root access btw)
After you install it go to tweaks->touch screen and display and set min. Velocity to 2500 and max velocity to 4500. For your phone the values may differ.so feel free to test other values till you get the best results. Also max events per sec should be at 60. After ur done just apply your settings.top left check Mark.
If this didn't work it could be a hardware issue.but for me it did the trick.I still get some ghost touches so they are not gone forever but its way better now.
Hope this helps peeps.

Ghost touching is caused by a defective digitizer... They are not hard to replace... You just need a heatgun/blowdrier and mini screwdriver (comes with digitizer) and patience... I've replaced the digitizer on my girlfriend's Rezound and ghost touching went away 100%... Took about 30 minutes. Plenty of videos on YouTube showing how the process works. This isn't something to pay someone else to do, you can easily figure it out yourself. Just be careful with the digitizer. They're super thing and will break if you put too much pressure on them.

[Help] Changing to x920e White. NEED EAR PIECE!

I've found almost all the parts to change my DNA to white.
I've sent emails to companies, checked , aBay, Amazon and every vendor I can find on Google and I've had no luck.
The piece I need to find is the rectangular part over the Verizon Logo, I'll edit from my phone.

That's the piece! However if it's attached to the bezel shouldn't the white screen/LCD already have it in place?
center part
Some places call it a Midframe, other places call it a Bezel , if you want your DNA to be completely white you will need this. The part above the speaker is attached to the midframe housing. Also, look at your phone, inbetween the Glass and the Back cover the Bezel shows thru. If you do not get this, in between the back cover and the glass will be black.
EDIT:

I'll give it a go. Whenever I take something apart I tend to take photos of the details to give it the best chance of going back together.
Looking for the best place to order the parts. I'll be ordering this weekend, hopefully, then 14 days from China more than likely.
Yeah hopefully... I have waited 2 months for an mhl cable from China once and have told myself that I will never again (at least from Amazon) order from China

I can't wait to see your results. I'm a bit afraid to pry open this phone as it's so well held together and without the glue / gaskets I fear I'll never quite get it back together the same. DNAs are pretty rare out there, and white DNA would be awesome.
Ya I don't think HTC can even repair this phone properly. I've had two replacements now and they are refurbs as Verizon is cheap. As I press around the sides and the back the phone crackles a bit, as if popping something into place. This never stops though. Kinda irritating, at least for me.

Money Is being a PITA this month and I wanted to try to get all the parts from one retailer, (Spoiler: Nope).
Also been trying to find a white screen and frame assembly, (Spoiler: Nope).
These sellers are also HORRIBLE at answering email. The only one I found who was helpful, before I knew, white was doable, only sells the black screen.
I'll get the tutorial up but it's just taking time. After taking some incredibly awesome photos with the DNA recently and with 4.3 coming I don't see a need to change devices.

besides Dev support the Note2 had nothing better than the DNA. My wife has one, I used it a week before sending it back for replacement. The screen isn't as sharp. The Exynos is slower, the camera isn't as good.
You're better off with the DNA.
You should post some pics of the end result. It would be very interesting to see what it will look like in the end.

[Q] Replacing the home button?

Having had my S2 for nearly 2 years now the home button has started to become unresponsive to normal presses and requires quite a hard press to make it work. Therefore I plan to buy the necessary parts on ebay and replace it myself. I replaced the usb port successfully myself previously so am not too worried about opening it up and carrying out the replacement. My question is which parts do I need to replace? Do I need to replace the flex cable and sensors that is beneath the buttons, this part. Or do I need to replace the physical home button itself, this part. Or even both?
Pretty sure there's detailed instructions (and pics) in the Samsung service manuals for the I9100 which have been posted here in the past (by others/me; I do have the files on an external drive somewhere but don't have it handy).
Edit - Try a Google search; just did one & it found a thread in General where someone put them up on Mediafire, didn't try & download but the link looks good/the files still seem to be there.
Could be wrong, but I think you need a new screen,as its got to be removed to access the home button.

DO you know if the camera is replaceable with the camera from HTC one? I counted the number of screws and i could get 9 on my the international model, but i do remember you said 13. for me there are 3 at the left side and four on the right and then two in the middle one of which has a void sticker. I am yet to see the other screws. i hate to take away the stickers
The camera should be replaceable since its the same camera as the htc one. Can you take a pic of the back of your phone and post it here so I can see it and let you know where the screws will be

honestly, it is not worth the effort mate.
so i take it no one knows which size Triwing to use? I'm gonna go ahead and chance it on the Nintendo one and i will report my results. Right now i having problems with the volume rocker and i need to do is get the backing off so i can fix/replace the damn thing.
For anyone that was waiting on my reply, yes the Nintendo one worked flawlessly. This is the exact one that i ended up buying. hope this helps people.

Hi,did you have take the whole unit apart to replace the camera module? Or was the partial disassembly in the video enough to do it? I've got the new module and have managed to do the partial disassembly but can't seem to see or find the plug for the camera ribbon. Thanks in advance .

For posterity: The size needed for the Max is Tri-Wing #00. That size can be a little hard to find, but this kit has it and it's got a good hard tip (unlike many cheap ones):

Note: You want Tri-Wing, not Tri-point. There is a small difference between the two.
