Hello out there,
recently my S2 (Stock ICS 4.1.2, Build JZO54K.I9100XWLSD) started to tell me again and again that there seems to be not enough memory left for certain app updates. So I finally decided to root my device for the first time to try to get rid of some log files and other unneccessary stuff that filled my sd card.
I found some recommendations for the app "SD Maid" that should be able to delete some files without causing too much harm. So I gave it a try. Deleted some "dead corpses" and some logfiles. Everything seemed to work fine.
But later in the evening during my way home I discovered that my audio book which I listened to in the morning, didn't work any more. Just the way as it is, when the DRM license ran out. My online library uses WMA files with DRM to make sure that one can use the book for 14 days.
So I downloaded the book once again, got the license through WMP and synchronized it again on my device. Same problem. Next try was to reinstall my media player (Mort Player). Still no success... Unrooting also didn't do the trick.
On the next day I checked /data/data.drm with another I9100 from one of my colleagues. All the files were existing on both devices, only mine were newer. So, since I tried everything that came to my mind, I don't know what to do now. Do you have any ideas?
It seems, that I deleted something that was responsible or necessary for checking the DRM license during playing. Since the DRM support for WMA files is part of the system in Samsung devices, it cannot be the players fault. The stock player also doesn't work here.
What could have happened? Are there configuraiton files or something that could be deleted? Do I have a chance to get back the DRM support? :crying:
Thanks a lot in advance and best regards,
Andreas.

I've had my gTab for about a month now. It's running Vegan and has CWM. It deleted a whole slew of pictures a few weeks ago (they were some comics I was wanting to read) from the microSD card I put in it and figured maybe it was a random occurrence, so I put the pictures back on it. Same thing happened. Last week I was in class and needed to record my professor's lecture, so I busted out my gTab and recorded away. After the lecture I made sure I could find the file on my gTab so I could share it with a few friends. Today I go to take the lecture from my gTab and it's gone.
Has anyone else had this happen? Does anyone know what's going on? Am I doing something wrong? Is this a problem with Vegan? Is there a fix?
Thanks in advance! I appreciate any and all help.
Don't know if this makes any difference, but before I installed Vegan and CWM, I got stuck in a boot loop using stock TNT. Installing CWM fixed it.
I can't help but this happened to me too. Also on the
external microsd card.
But I'm running tnt lite 4.4 ....
Don't trust any data to android I think is the lesson.
Known issue. The fix involves putting an empty file called .nomedia on the root of the microsd (aka "sd2") card. Search forum for ".nomedia"
The gtab likes to delete media from the sdcard2 when it scans for media. It is a known issue that everyone has but there is no good fix yet. Put an empty file named .nomedia on the root of sdcard2. It will stop the media scan and stop the media from being deleted.
Put an empty file named .nomedia on the root of sdcard2.

But then - correct me if I'm wrong - music players won't see the music
files on sdcard2 and you can't play your songs.
Nice Q&A google!
( just 'cause it'a "known issue" doesn't make it OK)
Albright, some media players do see the files, some don't it seems. The native player does NOT. In any case, you can navigate to the file using a file/root explorer and open them that way if necessary.
Correct about the native player - it won't see your music anymore. That's the caveat.
This has been a problem since Day One. It used to not scan /sdcard2 at all, then VS fixed that but then things started getting deleted (which is worse, imo).
I use "andless" or Rockbox for music, to get around this issue. I actually prefer a directory-based structure versus a database-based one.
andless looks good - also looks like it doesn't demand
too much from the battery. Aagreed that folder based players
are to be preferred.
thanks for that
Hello All,
I wondered if one of you experts may be able to help me with an issue I'm having with my SIII please? I'm a long time browser of the site but haven't posted much until now.
This issue is coming between me and my sleep (and I mean that literally.)
I can't seem to master the art of getting music onto my S3. I thought it would be as simple as using iSyncr as I had with my S2. Alas, no.
Because of the changes to the mass storage mode (I am running a Mac), I have to download the Android File Transfer thing to connect my phone at all to my Mac.
When I use iSyncr now, it's slightly buggy. I put the phone into MTP mode, it starts copying music across and then after a certain number of tracks, it throws up an MTP issue where it says certain songs can't be copied. I then have to go around the houses and start clearing data from the media storage app in my settings and rebooting the phone. Then, I try again and get so far and the same thing happens again with different songs.
Also, when some songs transfer the albums appear split in the phone (though this is minor annoyance compared to the above).
I have left it on overnight and come back to my computer and it all looks finished, yet of my 6700 songs, only 3400 have transferred.
I've tried going the old fashioned way and spend last night dragging and dropping files onto the memory card using the Android File Transfer mode. I got one message saying a song couldn't be copied, yet when I actually got up and checked, again, only 3400 odd songs had transfered. There were no error messages and we're not talking DRM songs that hadn't gone across.. but some that I had ripped myself. It's all very odd.
Don't mention DoubleTwist - that's even worse.
This is really driving me mad as I am a big music player and I don't want to fork out for and have to carry an iPod too. I just sold my iPhone to use the S3 as I assumed it would be simple like the S2 but this is making me so upset with the phone. It's as though Google have deliberately locked out Mac functionality.
It's an unlocked unit, with a sandisk 64GB card inside. That was formatted by the phone and when I tried using a card reader instead, the computer said it couldn't be recognised.
I'm throwing myself at your knowledgeable feet here and hoping that somebody knows exactly what is happening here and what it is I could do to fix it. My entire weekend has been wasted sitting in front of this computer and I really want to fix it.
Please help.
Thanks in advance.
Can't help with your immediate issue I'm afraid (waiting for my S3 and I don't have a mac... ) but have you contracted the devs of iSyncr to let them know of the issue - at least that way they can start working on an update.

I sure have!
Thanks for contacting me and pointing me to this thread.
First off, I've pre-ordered the international S3 so that I can test this out. We just do not have them in Texas yet.
Secondly, I've been unimpressed with Android's MTP's robustness on other devices. I filed several bug reports for different scenarios that corrupt the MTP database in March of 2011. Zero have been touched by Google. Given this, the first thing we should try is rebuilding the MTP database, which lives inside the "Media Storage" app. I've put these instructions in an easy to follow tutorial.

Please let us know if that helps the issue.
Cheers!

Don't suppose anyvody has any solution for this? Really don't want to take my S3 back but will have to at this rate. I think it's shocking that the S3 is so crippled from a Mac's perspective since the changes to MTP. Android File Transfer app doesn't really fix anything.
I have the same problem. Even using AFT, it wil not see the phone until I put it into PTP mode. THen I can copy data to it. isyncr see the phone in MTP mode but keeps telling me device failed to load.
I'm going to mention
I know I shouldn't mention it but here you go Double twist!
Right I've had some problems and this is what actually worked.
First you have to use itunes. If your music is a mess then a app on the app store called 'dupin' will remove any duplicate songs you have (it worked well for me). if you have lots of dead file links in your library just remove all your library files and then click 'add to library' be careful that itunes does not copy the files you add to the itunes music folder - see preferences.
1. Make a 'new playlist' --> add all your songs to it (press command+a etc). If you have a large music library like me then you can make a 'smart playlist' and limit the size of the playlist, handy eh!!
2. Open doubletwist on your mac and immediately make sure in 'preferences' the 'automatic sync' option is switched off (I had an incident where my whole library syned with 2 of my external hardisks...oops...and the funny thing is that one of the hard disks was where the music stored). Make sure the 'import itunes playlists' option is also selected.
3. In the doubletwist andriod app Select the SD card as library storage and Enable the 'Airsync' function in doubletwist (you will have to pay for the app but in my opinion it's worth it - it also supports ACC files).
4. Enter the pair code into the mac application.
5. Select the option to sync your playlists only (don't try anything fancy!!). You should see the one you made in itunes here.
6. THIS IS THE IMPORTANT BIT: you should by now see the 'airsync' icon at the top of the screen. PULL DOWN THE NOTIFICATION CENTER AND TOUCH THE 'DOUBLETWIST IS SYNCING'. You will see a funky swirly multicoloured wheel LEAVE THE PHONE ALONE UNTILL ALL YOUR MUSIC HAS SYNCED ACCROSS.
Dont lock your phone as this seems to mess it up...
Hope this helps. I understand your pain, I lost a weekend too!
Notes: Podcasts and DRM stuff does not sync.
Notes: If your playlist is not the full size of your music library then if the 'live updating' option is turned on in your smart playlist then when you click sync in doubletwist it will sync different songs each day (I think...)
If none of the above works, you always have a nice shiny 50gb of free dropbox storage as an interim solution

If you are already an iSyncr user, as this person is, there is no reason to leave me for doubleTwist. We've got iSyncr WiFi, which we came out with before doubleTwist and is only a .99 cent upgrade. If you've got an issue with it, just email me, and we'll make sure it works on your S3.

If its possible, try installing VMware fusion, and you can run windows inside your MAC in a virtual machine, you can try this if everything else fails...
You know where to download these softwares
You can try for free...and find the serial key easily using Google.
http://www.vmware.com/products/fusion/overview.html
I purchased the isycr wifi option and it is working fine... I think they have a "lite" version that you can try, but it only syncs one playlist or something, but you can see if it works or not. But that is what I am using now.

How about with the motorola defy ? Still waiting on that if you can have a look at fixing that one.
Gooday guys,
I've got serious troubles at the moment. 2 days ago I wanted to show a picture to a friend of mine. Opened my gallery > ehm, what is going on here? > there were no photos images anymore.
First I thought that the gallery app got some problemes, rebooted my phone, still the same. Looked up the folders with Solid Explorer, well ... all files got definitely deleted.
I searched for this here on xda and google. Well, all I found out was that it could be ROM related, or that it could have something to do with RomManager (haven't installed it though). The curious thing is that the *.jpg and *.mp4 files got deleted from all folders and subfolders, not only from DCIM and even from the sd card.
I'm not here for any recovery attempts, have done this already
Well this is not all. I've got some *.avi files on my phone (internal and external storage). Theses files were deleted too. BUT not at the same day as the other media files (*.jpg and *.mp4).
So this is the pre story. Now I wanted to know what can I do to discover what is causing this problem, because what's next? Is my phone deleting all my files in a few days?
For me it seems like a script that is searching the whole device for media files and deleting them. (malicious?)
My thoughts were:
to smali all applications and try to find out if a app is causing this
to analyze logcats
Well, These options seems to be very long-lasting, so I ask you if somebody have any ideas on this?
Information about my phone
Phone: Samsung Galaxy S3 (i9300)
ROM: ParanoidAndroid v3.68
Kernel: Googy-Max v1.5.9
I haven't isntalled any apps or updates the last two weeks so I think there are no problems with apps and therefore will not list them.
tldr;
phone is deleting media files
two days ago it deleted *jpg and *.mp4 files from internal and external storage and from all folders (not only DCIM)
today it deleted *.avi files from internal and external storage
could it be a malicious script that is crawling my phone for those files?
how can I find out what is causing this problem?
I hope that somebody could help me *pray pray*
thanks a lot in advance!
Wish you guys a nice weekend
John
Sounds like a nasty software bug
Oooooooooooooo NOT fun! I have seen this before (first time on the S3 though). Sounds like a nasty software bug. Sometimes you can fix this and sometimes you cannot.
What you NEED to do is backup ALL of your phones information. I recommend that you back it ALL up to a computer, even your memory cards information as well.
Then wipe that device clean with a Factory data reset. This will set the phone back to its default settings and will be like a brand new phone.
You might also want to consider formatting your SD card at the same time. Just in case whatever is causing this issue is coming from your Memory Card.
Afterwards I recommend that you try using your phone without any 3rd party applications for a couple days, just to make sure it’s not a bad app causing trouble.
If the phone is still acting up and erasing things then you should file a warranty claim as soon as possible.
Good luck John.

Device:
ZTE Grand X (Bell Version) - Model Z933
Android 4.3
Kernel 3.4.0+
No root, stock everything.
I recently bought this ZTE Z933, and I've had some photos, videos, and music stored on the phone's storage for a while, and it worked fine.
Just in the past couple weeks, I put more videos, photos, and music onto an SD Card (4GB, FAT32) and put it into the phone, and now very often (almost daily) all of my picture browsing apps and music playing apps suddenly (and temporarily) are not able to detect ANY media on both the SD card and my phone's storage. But, if I browse my media through ASTRO or any other file manager, all the files are there and they work perfectly fine.
Rebooting the phone does nothing to fix this issue, and neither does accessing the storage through USB or unmounting and mounting the SD Card. For a while, the only fix I found was sometimes if I opened up one of my photos through ASTRO, and then closed it, about half the time it would temporarily fix the issue.
After a bit of searching, I found some threads on different sites about restarting the Media Scanner service (or something along that line) in Settings > Apps. I do not have this, but instead what I do have under Apps > Running > Cached, I have something called "Media", which, when I stop it and restart the phone, fixes the issue temporarily, but it works every time. The annoying thing about this is having to reboot, and losing all my ringtone and notification tone settings, and my playlists every time this happens.
Can anyone give me info on things to try? Or does anyone know of an app that will get me around this issue? (the phone has been reset pretty recently so I don't think that would solve it)
Any help would be very appreciated!
Hey how's it going? I to picked up one of these nice little phones and have yet to find anything as far as development on it, i.e root or any roms and ZTEusa has nothing on this phone. Every time I google it it shows another phone.
Its a great phone large screen and has quad core, if enough people post a wanted new thread on the request a thread forum we can get some help. There is a boot loader its just can anyone get root threw it. Also someone needs to try all of the towel root modstrings which are a lot and you might get it rooted. I really enjoy mine have had no problems with media, might be your sdcard is it an old one or a new one what class is it class10?
http://www.xda-developers.com/users-beware-zte-root-backdoor-found/
I just picked up this phone too.
Seems like root acess is simply password controled..
Maybe ztex1609523?
Anyone wanna jam that into an installer?
I'm Running CYANOGENMOD 13.1. (6.0.1.)
Basically I had issues of the Moving Media to SD Nature.
Searched google for Apps or information before and found ways for Previous Devices to Fix those Media Moving to SD issues.
Now, I've Searched Google for a SD Fix for my Device (LG Volt), no such luck until I ran across XINTERNALSD Thats been said to Somewhat Fix these SD issues or at least Find a Method at most to be compatible with SD.
I've ticked all the options for it to allow access to SD card. It works (Somewhat). The Folder Path is "Storage/4088-8EFD/".
I've Enabled all Apps including System apps.
The Drawback is... MX Player Doesn't read any Videos At All, Not Just that, My Music Player show Nothing at all (Unless I make a Sound Record File, Only those show up.).
I've copied music files in internal storage in every folder regarding music including the Sound Recorders folder of which the Music player will only read. I've copied music files in the ExternalSD as well (Even through Storage/4088-8EFD/).
Just in case you ask.
Yes, I've Even Set the correct Current Folder in MX Player to " Storage/4088-8EFD/"
Also (Somewhat) Having Issues when downloading anything on the Net.
I get the "Android.Process.Media Has Stopped".
From what I gather when using Titanium Backup, Scrolling to the bottom and seeing " Media" Scratched out.
I do believe it may be the Fact that I preformed a Dirty Flash...? I'm not Sure.
Long story short, I was last Running SlimKat Rom 4.4.4.
LG Volt Devices have Crappy 1GB RAM.
I use to play PokémonGo until they Stopped Rooted users From Playing.
But inorder to play the game without glitches or Hanging, I disabled and/or Titanium Backup Disabled Apps AND System Apps Like The System App Media.Process Not sure if thats exactly The System Apps Package Name.
Thus I don't believe I re-enabled the Media System Package App BEFORE Flashing to CyanogenMod 13.1.
I'm In Dire Need of Help for I haven't Crossed any Forums that were remotely helpful to me..
I'll Try and Attach all my ScreenShots if it Helps.
(I guess I need to make 10 Posts Before Im allowed to Input Photos or Links.)
