Anybody ever heard of the this wakelock SmsCallServiceWakelock? It seems to be waking my device repeatedly lately. I googled it and I don't see anything about it. Thanks

I am having massive wakelock issues due to this one. I'm not sure what is causing it, but it only happen on AOKP mr2. AOKP mr1 is fine, so I'm guessing it's something in 4.3 based ROMs? Are you on TouchWiz or a custom ROM?
were either of you able to figure out how to stop this wakelock? I'm running the 9/29 version of SmoothAOKP 4.3 and I first noticed it a few days ago.
Thanks

I didn't find a fix, but I did find a way (at least for me) that I can reproduce it:
1. turn OFF wifi while in an LTE area and ensure you're getting LTE and connected
2. Go to Settings -> "More..." under Wireless & networks -> Mobile networks -> Network Mode -> select "CDMA/EvDo auto" (you should already be set to "CDMA + LTE/EvDo" when you enter this menu
3. observe in BBS or another WL detector the SmsCallServiceWakeLock constantly incrementing.
I had someone on CM10.2 try it and the above couldn't reproduce it, but he is on the ME7 radios.
I'm still on the MDK radios, so perhaps CM10.2/AOKP-mr2 require newer radios on jfltevzw?
Due to this constantly killing my battery and some other 4.3 flakiness/app incompatibility, I rolled back to 4.2.2
ME7 radio didn't help
Well, I restored my AOKP mr2/4.3 backup, flashed the ME7 radios (modem) and I still can reproduce this wakelock.
At this point it is looking like an AOKP-specific bug to me. I did file a bug with them:
http://bugs.aokp.co/issues/58
But as of yet, no answers...

Looks like it was a bug in AOKP specific to quiet hours. Why it manifested when (for me) dropping from 4g to 3g, I don't know, but there's a commit in AOKP's gerrit to fix it:
http://gerrit.aokp.co/#/c/12910/
Hopefully it'll be gone in the next nightly!

my better battery app shows wifi running all the time. My battery is getting nuked. When I look at the android menu it says it is the screen sucking up the battery, even though the screen was only on for a short time. Anyone else having issues?
I wasn't having any issues with the 2.3.6 until right there at the end and then it started having the wifi draining issues. I was hoping the wifi issue would have been fixed in the ICS release. I tried doing a factory reset, which didn't help. I uninstalled the att hot spot finder app, didn't help. Is there a way to clear the wifi configs or reset the wifi?
I also notice it will disconnect from the wifi and can't see wifi networks even when hitting the scan button. I have to turn the wifi off and back on to get it to work.
Seems like the same issue

I guess there isn't a fix yet. That sucks.
Have that too. Temporary workaround: Settings -> Wifi -> Menu button -> Advanced -> Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep -> Never.
With that I have great battery life (got 28 hours once).
EDIT: My post is related to ported I9100 ROMs, never used i777 leak.
There is no official ICS - just a leak.

what he said ^^^
Pretty sure this is the same way it's always been that I remember, unless you goto advanced settings it will stay on with the screen off, it shouldn't really kill your battery though. I see minimal impact with my wifi on, I've even read it's better on battery due to less awake time on data polls. The exception to this is if you have an app that goes data crazy when it's on wifi, and keeps the phone awake. Then there was also the issue with the uckk6 firmware, but I don't think that issue is still going on with the ICS ROMs I've tried.
Edit: Was just reading and I guess ATT leak might still suffer from the goofy KK6 bug.
Will the UCPLC5 modem fix it? How do I install the newer modem leak with out making the counter go up?
Also, changing basebands will do NOTHING for wifi-related drain.
Baseband is for voice and cell data - it does NOTHING wifi-related whatsoever.

damn, that sucks. Hopefully the OTA will come out with a wifi fix and soon.
I have been using CM for years, first on the Evo 4G and now on the GS3. Ever since I can remember, I've had issues with GPS on CM. In the Evo days, I always remember flashing a GPS fix (or doing a CLR fix after flashing in from a Sense ROM). Now, with the GS3, I continue to have challenges with GPS on CM. When I had the M builds, I had decent performance with GPS and could get the navigation to lock - as well as maps finding my location. Ever since I went to the CM10 stable build, the navigation just sticks on "waiting for location" and the maps cannot find my location. Super frustrating. I even switched over to AOKP for the time being as the GPS seems to be working great (as well as most of the other features).
I am still itching to get back to CM though...
Here are my questions:
1. Is there a flashable fix for the GPS problem in CM10 on the GS3?
2. I've seen that a few people flashed into ICS, locked nav, and then flashed back to CM - does this work? if so, after doing this, can I re-flash a backup or do I have to wipe clean first?
3. Even if one of the two fixes above works, will I still have sub-par performance with GPS?
Thanks in advance.
Not my answer, rochers from androidforums:
took me quite some time to figure this one out, thought i should post it here in case anyone else has a similar problem.
When i updated to android 4.1.2, i noticed that my google navigation stopped working. It would simply sit there endlessly "waiting for location..." fortunately, there's a simple fix:
1. Go to "settings > accounts > google > location settings".
2. Flip the switch to "on" (i found this was off in my case).
3. Try google navigation again, it should work fine.
I'm not sure why google decided to break up the location settings into two different places like this, but it's a bit silly imo as it's definitely going to catch some people out.
Found this solution on xda, cant post link, but this works.

I upgraded my phone to KK back in late december and have been on it ever since but one problem has plagued me since then and I'm hoping to get some insight here. heres the problem...
When im connected to wifi (and this is only with wifi, not MD) I don't get my push notifications (gmail,fb,words, hangouts, etc) when the screen is off.Often i turn my screen on and get a barrage of notifications that i should have gotten hours ago. Ive tried all the sleep modes and Ive tried turning off wifi optimization.Nothing works and I know for fact it did not do this on JB.
I DO get text messages and phone calls instantly though but nothing else will wake my phone up. While i do enjoy the deep sleep, i would like to get my notifications in a reasonable amount of time without having to turn the phone on to check them.
Has anyone else had this "problem"?
Nope. Have you looked into what is and isn't checked in your Google Settings? There's a Play Games tab that allows you to mute certain games, essentially stopping their notifications. I don't suppose you've messed with that, have you?
It's strange, I've not really heard of this, especially since you're getting texts and such.

Yeah i know and I've googled it to death for a few months now. I'll check g settings but idk why that would stop gmail. It's like when I'm on Wi-Fi w/ the screen off its just a plain old dumb phone. I turn the screen on and the notifications just flood in.
Edit: nothing in g settings is muted. The only thing i can think of is i don't have app data synced in accounts.
I think i figured it out. I had "sync app data" unchecked in accounts. So far I've been getting notifications screen on and off. Now if someone will just play back to me on wwf...
EDIT: i may have spoke too soon. It still doesnt wake up without turning on my screen

I did when I was using Omni and it worked great. I haven't used it since running RR, however.
So you're wifi connected, and have actively turned mobile data off? I have never even tried that...
If, however, you mean that this happens only when you're connected to WiFi, then no, I have not experienced this issue.
The only other setting that I can think of that pertains to sync is in system settings > Data usage > settings > [ ] auto-sync data, but I don't think that would cause the awake-vs-sleep sync issues that you're describing.
I used to use Active display, I currently use AcDisplay, I'll likely go back to using the baked-in active display.

No i never turn mobile data off. I just meant that notifications come as expected when I'm on mobile data but on Wi-Fi, once the phone hits deep sleep (<a minute) i won't get notifications unless i turn the screen on.
I ask about active display because i remember when on resurrection ROM i was using it and getting notifications then and kind of forgot about it but I'm on PAC 4.4 now and it's doing it again. However i was using the init.d scripts they have baked in but have them all turned back off now to see if that fixes it.
It's the strangest thing I've seen. It's like when I'm on Wi-Fi and turn the screen off it just disconnects from all data even though i can plainly see that it is not. Angela has the same phone with the same settings as mine but on RR 5.0.5 and she gets notifications fine.
@cyril279 I knnow this is off topic but have you tried this AD app? Its got some other features/customizations that aren't on the built in AD
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.greatbytes.activenotifications
That was actually one of the first active-display variants that I tried. It worked well, but there were a couple hiccups that kept me shopping. The add-on AD clones have great features, but they don't play well with the stock lockscreen, or they leave the [home] button active, or involve significant lag when evoking the notification. The baked-in clones operate fluidly, but without the cool-stuff. I haven't tried active notifications recently though, maybe the updates have smoothed things out. I'm definitely down to try it again.
AcDisplay's development has been re-directed by Motorola. It's still my favorite of the clones, the beta version is boss, but it still isn't as fluid as the built-in boring-ol Omni AD.

Well all my testing so far has lead me no where with the exception of using that app. So far, I've not been able to reproduce the problem while using it. The question is,"what is it doing" to make it work....
EDIT: The app does not fix it....
just thinking out loud herebut, could this be a kernel issue? Im currently using PAC's kernel that comes packaged in the rom. Maybe I should try @RenderBroken 's kernel...?

PAC uses a modified ramdisk compared to other CM derived roms. Are you only having issues trying to get PAC running on your phone? Is it KK or JB?

[SOLVED] Not Receiving Notifications on WiFi
My suspicions have paid off!! I started suspecting my router was the culprit so i pulled out my old netgear2400 and hooked it up and low and behold my notifications starting lighting my phone up again!!
The problem was the Xfinity router that came from comcast. Apparently it was closing the "heartbeat" line to stay connected when the screen was off before the heartbeat would send again, if that makes sense.
For the time being I'm going to just use my netgear router BUT I was able to fix the problem with the Xfinity router by using an app called Push Notification Fixer. Just install it, follow the instructions, and set the WIFI/mobile data heartbeat to the recommended settings. If that don't work start shortening the heartbeat time. It'll make sense when you see the app.
Hope this helps someone else along the way. I went a LONG WAY down the google rabbit hole before I figured this one out.
Great news, glad it was an easy fix!

Great news! Now you just need to install DD-wrt on your router and turn it from a $40 router to a $400. I know you like to tinker but check it out. ITs free and its just firmware for certain routers. It turned my old wrt54g into a baus

I'm having the same issue with KitKat CM11 ROM on my HP Touchpad (which is WiFi only), and will have to try this. Notifications come in instantly on my iPhone/iPads, but my Touchpad gets some serious delays...sometimes right away, and sometimes delayed.
By the way, did "Sync App Data" setting for an account have anything to do with push notifications, or is that more for backup purposes?
---------- Post added at 02:32 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:04 PM ----------
Oh darn, mine is still delayed even with the push notification fixer installed and WiFi heartbeat at 5min. Even after I've just rebooted my Touchpad, actively using it, and not even 5 minutes has passed. Delay was 8 minutes and then the notifications came streaming in.
With Android/KitKat, do you have to have the app open in the background for push notifications to go thru? Or run the app at least once after a reboot?
Hey guys, ever since flashing a custom ROM onto my Verizon GS4, I've had issue with getting my phone's location. Given the location options on 4.4.3, the phone is able to get a rough location on the High Accuracy setting but can't do anything under Device Alone. As such, I'm pretty sure it's the GPS having issues. Others have had compass problems with the ROM I'm currently on, but everyone seems to be able to get a GPS lock when I can't. I've done a dirty flash, a clean flash, and even redownloaded the .zips from other locations in case the file was bad, but nothing has solved my problem. I use my phone's location settings for a variety of apps, so I'd really like to get it working again. Does anyone know of diagnostics I could perform? My hope is that it's just a software issue, and that I didn't do any permanent damage to the hardware. Thanks for the help!

I looked up the fix you're talking about. Others seem to have had success through the gps status apps available on the playstore. Unfortunately, they didn't have any effect on my phone. I'm still stuck at searching for GPS on any app that uses it. Those who had success seem to have had it with a ROM that originally worked, but lost the ability to successfully connect. My issue seems to be in the ROM itself, or at least that's what makes sense to me. Thanks for the advice and trying to help.

Hey guys, I've had this problem ever since android 4.3, had it on 4.4.2, and after trying liquidsmooth's 4.4.4, the problem still exists. Wifi keeps dropping to LTE, and if I try to toggle wifi back on, the toggle switch "hangs" for a moment on the "on" switch while greyed out, and then automatically switches back to the "off" switch. Only after some time passes, sometimes taking several days, does the wifi randomly switch back on. Does anybody else have had to deal with this problem? And how were you able to resolve it? Thanks in advance

Hmm sounds like a Rom problem. Does anyone else installing Liquid Smooth have that issue? You should post in the Rom's thread and ask..If so you know your answer..
Another thing you can try is swapping some system files.. Post back here if no one else has the issue..

Update: it seems my issue was hardware related, specifically the two gold contacts inside the cover and the two points on the back of the phone weren't making good contact. After cleaning the points and securing the cover firmly my WiFi issues seem to have disappeared for now. So if any of you are having similar issues, make sure to check the WiFi antenna contacts on the back of the phone
