Rooting MediaTek MTK6589 phones without Flash Tools:-
EDIT: Just use Framaroot. Simple. No PC required. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2130276. Just install the App and use one of the exploits.
*You can ignore this* OLD METHOD: (use this if you have a lot of time to waste )
Get "Motochopper, developed by djrbliss" for rooting Motorola devices. It works on most devices running Jelly bean 4.1 and above.
Original post (requires logging in) / Thread on XDA / # Alternate Download (Mirror)#
Here's what you need before you Root.
1. Any Phone with MediaTek MTK6589 Processor and Jelly Bean 4.1+
2. Drivers for ADB (connects the pc with the phone through USB Debugging) - there are many sources to get these drivers. If you're running the stock micromax firmware, it's found onboard when you connect the usb. For others running custom firmware, you could download from moulnisky.com. Even windows update might automatically install these drivers for you, but it's time consuming. After you've installed this, proceed to the next step to find out if you've established a proper connection between phone and pc.
3. Connect the phone to PC via USB cable and run the motochopper (run.bat file). press ok. then connect the phone to pc and enable USB debugging from the developer tools. Now the tool should push the exploit and root your phone. if no device is detected, go back to step two and install the correct drivers. if it's done, you're a superuser.
Note: In Android 4.2, Developer Tools will be hidden by default. You'll have to enable it first. For that, Go to Settings > About Phone > Build Number > Tap 7 Times.
Wanna Unroot and go back to Normal user?
SuperSu > Settings > Full Cleanup and Manually Reboot.
Installing Custom Recovery:-
This is a Must-if you have a rooted phone. Install a custom recovery before you start changing any system files. this will come in handy in case you mess up your phone and stuck in bootloop. It is commonly used for installing unofficial firmwares and also for backing up your perfectly working firmware.
To install a Custom Recovery, follow these steps. ( Root permissions needed )
1. Root the phone (refer above).
2. Download Mobileuncle MTK Tools from the Play Store.
. Download a Custom Recovery of your choice and place it on your external SD card without any folders. the recovery image file must have the word recovery in it for the app to detect it. i.e twrprecovery,recovery-twrp,etc.. so whatever sources you get the recovery image from, rename it accordingly.
Clockworkmod and TWRP are the most commonly used custom recoveries. It's up to you to decide which one you're installing. TWRP vs Clockworkmod: Which custom recovery is the best?
TWRP Custom Recovery
Clockworkmod Custom Recovery
3. Now run Mobileuncle Tool. Recovery Update > You'll find the recovery image there. Select and confirm to install. Done.
More info: Backups taken with clockworkmod don't work with twrp. so choose your family wisely.
Re-installing the Stock Recovery:-
If you want to revert to the Stock Recovery at some point due to some reason, HERE is the stock recovery taken from the stock firmware. You can flash it through Mobileuncle just like you flashed custom recovery.
Launching the Phone in Recovery mode:-
Switch off the Phone and wait till it's completely off. Pressing Volume Up + Power will enter the Recovery mode.
Factory Restore:-
Wanna Upgrade to a Newer version of Android ? or Have you just messed up your Phone ? Worry-Not. Here's the solution for all your problems. As the saying goes " A MediaTek Phone can never be Hard-bricked ". It can only be Soft-bricked and then it's easy to resurrect it back from the Dead with SmartPhone Flash Tool.
Here's what you need:
1. Micromax Micromax Canvas HD (I'm not sure if this firmware will work with any variants of this Device.)
2. The Latest Firmware for Micromax Canvas HD: S9201_4.2_MP_F3F8_B1_IN_MMX_14_FLASHER_USER (Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean, Released on 18-October-2013)
3. Download the latest version of Smart Phone Flash Tools: Download v3.1312.0.139
4. MediaTek PreLoader USB VCOM Port Drivers - (Download) - This is the most important part. If you don't install these drivers, SP Flash Tools will not work.
Note: these aren't the same drivers that comes with the Phone or those Unsigned Drivers provided by many sources. These are signed drivers and works with all versions of Windows (includes 7,8 x64 versions)
How to install: Don't download the first file (it's just an installer). Get the two other files which are the Drivers. Keep them in a folder and extract them. You will have two .inf files. Right click on both of them and install. Simple.
5. After downloading all the required files and installing the drivers, power off your phone completely and remove the USB cable. Now remove the battery from the phone.
6. Extract the zip file containing the micromax firmware to some folder and then run SP Flash Tools. Now select the Scatter-Loading File which is inside the extracted folder named as "MT6589_Android_scatter_emmc". Press Download and connect the USB cable to the phone (without battery). It takes around two minutes to complete. Removing it mid-way will only mess-up the phone. After a Green circle is shown on screen, you can remove the cable and turn on the phone. That's all.
Note: If you're upgrading from Android 4.1 to 4.2, for the first time, You might enter an app called TP Upgrade that will run on the first boot. It's a Nice app. It upgrades your TouchPad drivers to the latest version and will ask for confirmation.but the thing is "DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING ON YOUR SCREEN WHILE IT'S THERE (NOT EVEN THE OK BUTTON)". It will start by it's own and completes in around 5 minutes approximately. If you accidentally touch the screen, your TouchPad will stop working. Now, Don't Panic. Welcome to the League. Now remove the battery from the phone and restart. You should see the same TP Upgrade coming up again. Have some snacks and don't do what you did last time. It'll be fine.

I just found out the simplest method to root the Micromax A116 Canvas HD.
This method is not yet popular among many Canvas HD users. But this one works without the need for any custom recovery. So you don't have to go through those complex procedures trying to install usb drivers for your device or removing the battery and connecting the usb. I tested this method and it works flawlessly.

It's not necessary. You should install it only if you love to flash custom ROMs (Customized Android versions) to your phone. You can flash unofficial android versions to your phone with it. It also allows you to make a backup of your stock ROM which you can't with the stock recovery. You should always make a backup of your stock android to make sure you can always reset your phone back to normal whenever something bad happens (that is if you brick your phone trying to install a ROM).
If you only looking for swapping the memory cards, root is more than enough. Look at this Guide for instructions.

Root Micromax Canvas HD A116
(without installing Custom Recovery)
Most Guides talk about using SP Flashing Tools to flash the Custom recovery and then rooting the phone. But Here we root the phone first and then install Custom recovery. This method is much easier. You don't have to install any Custom recovery to root your Canvas HD. Which means, you don't have to go through those complex procedures trying to install usb drivers for your device or removing the battery and connecting the usb. I used Motochopper by djrbliss to root my Canvas HD. I didn't face any problem. so it works. Here is the link

Tips and Tricks:-
How to Swap internal and external Memory Card - link
Although your phone is powerful enough to run high definition games, the manufacturer has provided little space to install any such games. Your internal memory of 2Gb storage fills up as soon as you install something like Need for Speed Most wanted. So the first thing you must do after rooting the phone is swapping the memory cards. Insert a 16Gb external memory card and use this trick to transform the external memory card into internal memory. Now you can have six hd games at the same time on your phone

Hi,
I tried uploading back up of rom taken from SP flash tool but file size is huge around 1.6GB. Alternatively CWM back up is small size of 333MB so you can use cwm back up to flash your phone. the link to download rom is as follows: -

Just extract the folder and store in your sd card. Do not overwrite or rename any file. than flash cwm recovery using sp flash tool. use this guide to flash cwm if you don't how how to do the same:-

Hello. Did you check if the bakup is working? Did you do a recovery from it at least once? I tried to install your backup on a TCL S720 phone which is the same phone (95% sure....) and it didn't work. It said on CWM recovery "Flash failed". I want to mention that the rom files you uploaded should be in the root of the zip file not in a directory. I've archived the file directly in the root and it didn't work. Any idea? Could you upload the whole rom, the 1.6 GB one and paste the link here please? I know many people is looking for it. Thank you.
tcl s720
I restored this nandroid from alcatel ot flash 6042d on to my TCL S720
The restore process went well,no errors, but the rom is not booting it is in a boot loop.
I tried substituting boot.img from tcl s720 but no luck,I even tried patched boot.img,no luck either.
So,I hope someone with mad porting skillz will be able to port this alcatel 6042d rom to tcl s720.
@jhalife
If you can upload the whole backup 1.6gb made with sp flash tool I will be very grateful and many other TCL S720 will be grateful also
Thanks

If somone can help me about this..
I didn't understand thes lines
2.Open Mobile uncle tools and select Recovery Update
3.Flash my recovery.img file
4.Done
Please help explain those lines a bit .

Before flashing any custom ROM, you need the three things first.
1. Your device must be rooted.
2. You should have recovery.img that is your custom ROM.
3. Mobile uncle tool to flash the custom ROM via your mobile device.
Make sure you must aware of choosing best and optimized ROM for your device.
Via my own thoughts.

Hi ,everyone ,
I'm sharing this recovery , ported by Syed Ahmed Ali Shah (All credits to him)
How to install:
Download Spflashtool and recovery zip file
Extract the zip file , you will find the recovery.img + scatter file
Open Spflashtool , and load that scatter file.
The recovery should appears now (in spflashtool , it is supposed to be chacked/selected)
Choose download only and press on download button
Turn of your device ,and plug it in
wait till the succes mark appears
unplug you're device and boot directly to recovery
the recovery will ask you t allow system modification , don't allow for now ...because this will brick (not really,it will stops at logo, can be fixed by rooting it) you're device..
Rooting the device :
Now that you have the recovery ,Download supersu.zip file and flash it with that recovery...
Backup your firmware before rooting/ allowing modification
I'm not responsible for any damage that could happen , do it at your own risk
Hello I have succeeded to boot to TWRP recovery tool but i don't see the buttons
I see only ReadOnly, Language
and also Give permission modification
and I am afraid to brick my new Allure A55 Slim
For updated rom
This method is suitable for marshmallow OTA updated? Because it is impossible to make a backup of rom/data in the MTK Droid tool, as well as generate a scatter file.
Done. TWRP has been flashed, then rooted. The current scatter file can be generated from a ROM backup created by SPFlashTool, using the WwR_MTK software. And also cuting the ROM to img files for flashing, look at 4pda.ru, really powerful combine.

If you can make a backup and know how to use the recovery tools, then you can try. But I recommend trying a safer way first. With the Kingoroot application or AutoRoot Tools on this link https://qitapso.com/how-to-install-twrp-custom-recovery-on-blu-vivo-5-mini/ (works on Lollipop)
qualcomm
1.If you are not interested in rooting and flashing things, just want to have a working phone
2.If you are interested in rooting and flashing things, and you have some basic knowledge of porting like using android kitchen and you are thinking I will be able to port a rom from a generic rom made for my phone's qualcomm cpu, then you are wrong most of the times you will see either your qualcomm phone has a support from one or more custom rom developer comunity or you have no generic rom made for your cpu,If you try to port a rom made for other device with same cpu, then there is a huge risk that you will hard brick your phone i.e. you will not be able to flash its stock rom from computer, your phone will respond to nothing (not any physical button, not the charger)
3.Many times or most of the times you will not be able to back up your current stock rom with a computer, you will only have the stock rom of your phone if someone uploads the stock rom in the internet for you
4.If you are interested in rooting and flashing things, then buy such a qualcomm phone which has a support from at least one custom rom developer comunity, think before buying
5. In some cases you will never have root access in your phone
6.In many cases or most of the cases if you want to flash the stock rom with the computer then you have to flash all the partions, you can not select a particular partition to flash,so if you want to flash the recovery partition then you have to flash all other partitions as well.
mediatek
1.If you are not interested in rooting and flashing things, just want to have a working phone
2.If you are interested in rooting and flashing things, and you have some basic knowledge of porting like using android kitchen and you are thinking I will be able to port a rom from a generic rom made for my phone's mediatek cpu, then most of the times you will find a generic custom rom which you can port for your device, you do not have to port a rom made for other phone with same cpu since the custom rom is generic. When porting a generic rom you will have almost 0 chance of hard brick, you can softbrick you phone in the process but in that case you can always flash the stock rom from a computer
3.All the time you can back up the stock rom of your phone using the mtkdroidtools and the sp flash tool, the scatter file creation facility of mtk droid tools, the read back function of sp flash tools and the process file rom from flash toll function of mtk droid tools are priceless
4.All the time you can have root access by building a old minimum functional cwm custom recovery with mtkdroid tools then flashing it with sp flash tool and flashing one su.zip file, once you have root you can easily change your recovery with magic twrp software or by youself to the latest functional twrp.magic twrp software will make and flash a function twrp itself,so all you need to have is root access.
5.If you do not want to port any rom for your device, then buy such a mediatek phone which has a support from at least one custom rom developer comunity
6.Always you can select which partitions to flash when flashing the stock rom with a computer.
That is what I wanted to say and I have said it.I can not think any thing else at this moment in this topic or I would have written that.
